  • This build is a build of a lot of firsts, First time trying out 32nd scale aircraft, First WW1 Biplane and first time trying out some new techniques, especially wood grain/panels thanks to a video made by LPJ models (I'll link at end of video), this build took a while but I think it was well worth it, But I'll leave it to you guys to decide.

    Love the subdued red cowling and
    "wooden" propellor. The varnished area of the fuselaged is nicely done too.👍👍👍👏👏 I'm finding the WingNutWings Camel a tad fiddly.

    Subscribed! Great video really liked the history in the beginning. The wood effect came out really well. The weathered red paint on top of the plywood landing gear really looks the part.

    That was an excellent build. The scabby red paint over the woodwork on the undercarriage turned out amazing.
    It seems like a really good value for money kit as it retails here in the uk for about £15.
    I don't know whether to buy this or spend a little bit more and get the 1/48 eduard profipack version.

      Cheers mate, glad ya liked it. It's definitely worth the low price just as a fun easy 32nd scale build. Their Nieuport 17 is the same.

    I wonder if I could get a bank loan for a Wingnut Wing model? lol
    This is a great video since some friends and I are doing a group build of this model. It's nice to find someone like Columbus Models. I like all of the tips and tricks that are shown in this video.
    Thanks for making this video with your tutorials I have a little confidence in attempting this build.

      Glad ya like the video, I also have a 1/32 Academy Neiuport 17 to build and video, hopefully with that one I'll be able to show how I do the rigging. Cheers mate.

      The rigging is what I am most shy from since I have not done any, ever.
      Looking forward to seeing your build of the Neiuport 17 for your tips on rigging.
      As of now, we are building a 1/48 Eduard Fokker Dr. 1. It is very small and fiddly. for the rigging, I am using a very thin guitar string and then painting it black.
      Thanks for writing back. looking forward to the rest of your future builds! 👍@@columbusmodels825

      @@garyginn9862 my advice, use one continuous line for as much as possible, and super glue everytime it touches a brace or whatever, keeps everything taught and easy to manage.

    Enjoyed the build, as luck would have it I have that very kit in my stash, just haven't got around to building it. Thanks for sharing, good luck on your next build! Johnny

      Cheers mate, my advice for this kit is just with the guns they you'll definitely need to have a look at reference pictures to see how they look because the air-cooling shrouds and barrels at the least are upsidedown, wish I had realized before I glued them down.

    Great job. But at the end there are not enough normal photos. One normal one and before that a lot of boring photos of the chassis (I understand that a lot of work has been done on the chassis, but one photo is enough for this).
    All the work is visible only at the end of the video, but it is blocked by recommendations.

    I am about to build this kit. I've read a lot of negative comments on the decals, saying they don't conform to contours with any of the usual solutions. What solution did you use? Sanding down the outrageous rib detail might help a bit I suppose.

    • @columbusmodels825
      @columbusmodels825  7 месяцев назад

      I use Tamiya mark set, a lot of it, plus a cotton bud with quite a bit of pressure and just working it as much as you can really. Currently building their Neiuport 17, having the same trouble with those decals as well. Otherwise, great kit.

      I've just bought this kit and have watched the videos on the Nieuport 17 and this Sopwith camel. I have some decal paper and intend to scan the kit decals, print onto decal paper, treat with varnish and see what happens. Should be a hoot. I'm 69 and been model making for years but very average, if my kit looks as good as this I shall be very pleased

    Hi,
    Nice build.
    I have this kit and can I ask why you did not go with the instructions regarding anchoring all the fuselage rigging inside before joining the two halves together?
    Thanks

    • @columbusmodels825
      @columbusmodels825  Год назад

      I think during the build I might have thought it would be easier to paint it without having the rigging in the way and letting future me figure out how to fix them, or probably because I didn't read the instructions properly and missed it. 50/50 chance of either, 100% I'm an idiot though.

    The machine gun barrels should be at the bottom not the top. 24:09

      I know, as I said in the video didn't realize because that's how academy mold the guns, the two tabs that slide into the cowling are on the wrong side, just didn't notice till after the glue had cured.

    That plane looks so awesome, and it's very excellent as well.
    I remember long time ago I did a Sopwith Camel in I think scale such as 1/48 I think. But it was from Revell. During that time I didn't pay too much attention for details and I only putted the thread on some of the wing like I remembered when I played a Red Barron PC game on MS DOS on 386 PC.
    I have to ask how come you didn't put how did you do the thread on the wings? Meaning how come you didn't recorded that mentioned thing?

    • @columbusmodels825
      @columbusmodels825  2 года назад +1

      I honestly tried to but just the nature of trying to rig it without the camera interfering was pretty difficult plus the few test shots I did just didn't look good in my opinion.

      Yea, academy molding, there's a reason this model retails for $30 for a 1/32 scale kit. Did some research on other people who built the kit and they have it the same way, upsidedown. Luckily for me all my friends don't know anything about aircraft so they'll never know the difference haha.

    You know what. Your modelling is absolutely first class.
    But what about combining pictures of the original subjects that still exist.
    So here's the propeller, the real propeller and this is how I reproduced it.
    i am not here to critique your work. But in case somebody thinks you are not faithful to the original thing, you could shut them up.
