Yea, all it took is: basic math, AWESOME TOOLS, patience, a dream, stress, and someone who doesn't give up! Other than that, piece of cake. Be proud!
It took more than one math 🤔
YES... That basically defines... DAN!!!
So yes, ABSOLUTELY... be PROUD of yourself Dan, because every person cheering you on, is 💯 definitely proud of you 😂❤😂❤😂❤
You make your math teacher proud 😉
basic math what using math programme nxt joke
"I don't wanna brag..." Brag. This was impressive, you should totally brag.
I know... I've never heard so many understatements!! This is colossal and amazing when you think he's doing this essentially alone.
Brag!!! You're amazing and so is your work.
This!
Feels like an achievement because it is...
It might just be maths to you, but I'm thinking it's pure genius. Didn't realize I was holding my breath. Beautiful!!! Well done, Dan!
You say "this feels like an achievement." Holly crap man, you have a massive achievement on your hands. It's beautiful. Congratulations on your amazing project.
Hello, I've been watching since you've started this project and today, you've touched my heart with what you've said. No one would take on that project because it had no roof. I am a homeless American woman living in a homeless shelter with my daughter and it's been difficult. At the end of the day I sit and watch your video. Your message through what you do and the joy while you do speaks volumes for those of us who struggle to do way less but see you as one person doing something many should be doing together. I struggled with feeling like no one cared and wouldn't give me a chance (no roof no care). But I found this place and I'm finding purpose because I've found people who do care even if I have no roof..lol. You found purpose where people haven't and it just reminds that this kind of person still exists and can be found anywhere, it doesn't matter if it's a building or a person. This comparison can be applied anywhere and week after week we see how much potential you see in the chateaux's pile of rubble. It just made me think of what would happen if we applied this with people in my situation. I want to see past " no roof" and then help others see past "no roof." Thank you. If that made sense to you. Thank you!
You are so much more than your current situation. But you know that. I hope that life takes a happier turn for you and your daughter. And you find a roof our your own. Blessings, Jessica.
You certainly made a perfect comparison! Blessings sent your way! ❤
Beautifully written story, clear, concise, to the point, and emotionally provocative. That's a good talent to have. Keep your fire 🔥 burning Jessica and the world will keep a light on for you. 💜
❤❤❤ I'm so sorry you're going through that... you are so eloquent... please keep a diary, if you have the energy...😊
Put an email in your youtube info so people can contact you to help out. Good luck 🐞🐞🐞
Understatement of the year ‘no one would take this place on just because it didn’t have a roof’ had nothing to do with the sleeping beauty forest grown up around it, the trees INSIDE the building, the lack of water and electricity supply, the crumbling brickwork and the 3m of rubble in the ground floor rooms nah it was the lack of roof 😂 😂 Dan your vision is one of the most incredible things about you! Xxx
Mathematics or maths, is a skill we all use far more often than we are aware
Some serious tools here!!
That roof is spot on !!
That wee lifting machine has been worth its weight in gold!
Not an episode goes by without my thinking exactly that, too. Best product placement in a vlog ever.
Oh I was thinking these exact things as I’m watching! I was thinking crane and multiple people to do this bit- normally, for those not Dan or Dan-like.
Clifford is worth his weight in gold
Should have had an electric motor and a remote, then it would have been even better when he is doing his lone-wolf thingy.
It is *not* a "wee" lifting machine , it is a Beam hoist or Genie hoist.
Brag away, Dan. I can not wait for Calvin to see what you have achieved since he was last with you. He will be so proud of his mate. It doesn't seem 2 minutes ago when it was the 2 of you with only 1 wheelbarrow and shovel clearing out the ground floor and getting excited about the tiles you discovered. You have achieved so much since then. Well done, you!
High School Mathematics Teachers could use your videos as a real life motivation for kids learning maths. I bet you never thought you’d be doing this when you were at school.
So would there be less carpenters and more engineers out there, or the other way around? Clearly all say that there isnt enough carpenters, and they have to get foreigners to come and do the hard work. Still many many architects and engineers are without job.. so things dont add up.
Maybe then they’d see what they’ve “ got to learn this junk”. For! 😂😂😂😂😂.
It really does help when students can visualize!
"It feels like an achievement.". It IS an achievement. Meticulous craftmanship and dogged perseverance meet a ruin and turn it into a home. Before our very eyes. Bravo!
Wow those were my exact thoughts! What an achievement.
That's exactly what I thought too......WHAT an achievement
You have the right to be proud.🎉
You’re completely mad and wonderful and just don’t stop restoring this incredibly special chateau until she is back to her beautiful self.
Give this man a burnt out shell and some basic tools and he'll build a castle. This is truly inspiring, thank you for sharing your journey!
And a RUclips income stream helps.
a 4k mafell planer isnt that basic . but still credit where credit does . building up a ruin like that
Basic? Those are high $ tools. A festool joiner runs around $1500US the Festool circular saws are around $1000US, that Mafell planer is around $5000US. Don't kid yourself thinking poor old Dan only has the basics.
The expression "put a roof over your head" has never been so fitting in Dan's case. The amount of preparation, work and patience is just incredible.
Damn boy! Math, who'd have thought!
One of the classes we all said, "when am I ever going to use this?"
Well... this is it.
While rebuilding a French chateau, ❤
The carpentry is awesome, but I'm even more impressed by your project management skills. There's clearly a huge amount of work getting done off camera as well as on!
Oh my, this is NO small achievement. It's a real pleasure to watch you bring this building back together. Congratulations
You are an absolute delight!!! I'm an 85 year old lady in NYC and I never miss a session. Thanks!
Don't know which is more miraculous, watching the heft of getting the frame built and put together, the maths involved or the camera footage... I'm feeling just pleasantly boggled... what a joy!!!
I'm impressed. Very impressed. Although I build furniture as a hobby, I've never worked on such a large scale. To have everything fit together so well is a credit to your dedication and care.
When I don't get to see Dan I worry, I look for him every day!
All I can say Dan is you are a hard working everyday man with a dream. I never would have thought you would have gotten this far with such a damaged building. It's as if the building was calling to you to help her get to her former glory. Blessings to you and stay safe. Kathy USA 🇺🇸
Dan you are something else a real grafter and so skillful in all you do also you make time to make blogs interesting and entertaining, it must take a large chance out of your day!Best of luck with the continuing of your ambitious project.
.
I don't think Dan is an everyday man. He is one in a million. 🙂
Isn’t it lovely having the right tools?
And a smart guy behind them.
I've been watching about 18 months and couldn't imagine how, when you first showed us Chateau du Chaumont, you were going to restore it to a living building. This is just amazing to watch! Looking forward to the return of Orange Pants Man (Calvin) and, of course, the amazing Nick (my favorite of his T-shirts is "Never underestimate an old guy with a chain saw."). Well done, DTG!!
I want to see Calvin’s (orange pants man’s) face when he gets his first in-person look at the chateau, and when Dan asks him to help clear out the other side of the chateau😂😂
Dan is not an architect or builder but he plays one on RUclips. Great job Dan! It is just a pleasure to watch this show.
The biggest understatement “It feels like an achievement!” - I would call it a MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT!!!! Congratulations on your workmanship Dan.👏👌🥰
Dad and Grandpa were carpenters, always measure twice and cut once. This lesson never let me down. It works well in sewing too. Greetings from Wyoming. I remember when you only had a thousand of us followers. Congratulations, Dan!
Yup, I remember 1100 or so. Been watching a long time. Looking good.
You are a master at doing these building jobs just brilliant!! Wonderful the covering for the roof will be next week. So glad I have been able to watch the process. Texting from Ohio, US.
Agree with you on the sewing. Measure twice, cut once. Turn a flat piece of fabric into a 3d garment.
Yeah. I’ve screwed up too many quilt blocks not doing that
me too... i remember when Dan began this faraonic job
The camilla bush has beautiful flowers.
Camelia! You made it sound like Q Consort's privates. Naughty
Is Camilla bush related to Kate bush in any way lol, sorry had to write that
Are you trying to make a Royal Flush or Blush?
Ah is that what it is? It really is beautiful, I have one it’s not doing well at all it certainly doesn’t look like that xxthanks
Camellia ❤
that sponsorship is brilliant! The collection and the quality of tools you can use now - that makes work a lot easier and a lot more fun...
It blows my mind that you have been able to do so much on your own, the building, the filming - amazing! I'm so happy for all your accomplishments! Hurray!
So happy to see camellias!!! Everyone should plant them if they can. No maintenance really and gorgeous showy blooms!
I have a GIANT 40 year old pink camillia bush and it has what looks like thousands of flowers on it!!!!🥰
Yep, they look like roses, but flower 6 months away from rose season.
No good scent, unfortunately.
Mine had its first bloom yesterday! 🙂
You are rocking it, Dan.
The peak is there!
Fantastic job.
Be proud and happy of your hard work.
What impresses me about this project, is that I could do all of this, but at every step, I would hem and haw, and analyze and decide. It would take me 30 years to do this. But you just jump right in and do it, and it turns out. Well done. I applaud your bravery and self-confidence.
You’ll be a for real carpenter by the time you finish. I watched you when you were working on the other house and the back house you redid for a work room. You cook, you garden, and now you have the tools and are learning the real skills of a carpenter. Good job!
You should be very proud of yourself, Dan. There aren't a lot of people who would take on this scale of renovation. Working on your own can't be easy but you just never give up. Snow or rain you are out there working. I really can't believe it some days. WELL DONE. Thank you for allowing me to say how very proud of you I am.
Seeing you with the pegs and saying mathematics have helped you, it made me think of the studies I have done as an educator.
So Froebel the "inventor" of kindergarten put together objects that would teach and prepare children for occupations. Sets of wooden blocks were some of the items he gave to children to use to enhance learning. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright paid homage to Froebel for the skills he had in designing the homes and other structures he created. He once exclaimed that through his years of designing he could feel the blocks from his childhood in his hands.
I think that many creative people, builders, architects. carpenters have honed their skills from all the things they have learned throughout their lives by using, manipulating and creating with objects and tools given to them.
I am in awe of your talents Dan and I think your life has prepared you to be where you are today, bringing life back to a long forgotten chateau.
That took me back, I learned to count using a 'Froebel's gift' box.
Awesome job Dan!! Congratulations!
Lovely comment. 😊
Yes, yes... rekindled memories 😊 Thank you Lisa!!! Fabulous comment ❤❤❤
Does anyone remember sitting in class and thinking... why do I need to learn this ? I'm never gonna use it.. 😂 just goes to show...
Dan, when you don't post for a few days please know I worry about you. Especially working up so high. Please just let us know you are ok.
I once had a castle in France in Betoncourt Les Menetriers (Franche Comté). It was from the 13th century. It was a beatifull castle but the walls were 1.80 m thick and the ceilingbeams were about 40 x 70 cm. There were two rooms with missing ceilings so we had to restore those. But MY BUDDHA the deadweight of those beams. We did it ourselfs with the support of 5 friends and one pullies. Apart from the beautiful scenery I still remember the weight of those oak beams. I sold the castle 10 years ago. I'm done with restoration so I now prefer to watch other people do it. So hands down for your effort!
... And the crowd roared his name.... Dan. Dan.... and thousands of celebratory balloons ascended over the amazing roof line... modestly he said it's only Math...Congratulations!
Dan you mention most people would not attempt to rebuild this house, thank god you’re crazy enough to do so.
You have evolved from a DIYer to a master carpenter …. Really happy for you mate. 🎉🍺🔨⚒️👍
I watched my Dad build me a doll house. He was as careful and meticulous as you are with the chateau. I don't doubt your children will grow up so proud of you. There are all kinds of heroes.
Sooo, am I the only one who is starting to worry when "I'll see you tomorrow" and two days later no new video has been uploaded?

Steadily climbing towards the 450.000 subscriber mark. And deserving each and everyone. This channel is in my top 5 of the ones that I subscribe to
Wow Dan it is absolute joy to see what you have achieved. The pride of your boys growing up knowing that Dad built a Chateau every part of that place will have your blood, sweat and probably tears. Also your pride, and joy it shows to all of us that when you set yourselves a goal and put your energy, faith, and self belief that what seems impossible can be achieved.
I know nothing about construction. I am here, from the begining, to see this great home become again. I want to see the coming together of the stages. I will be here with each video. Happy Valentine's Day.
When I first saw this channel I thought you must be mad. I mean, what on earth had you taken on? Just look at you now. What you've achieved is absolutely amazing. If you've read Asterix and Obelix, you'll know all about the indomitable spirit of the Gaul. Well you're a perfect example of it. My days are no longer complete without your latest video. Chapeau mon brave.
I know I shouldn't be amazed anymore at anything you do, yet I am. Your skills are off the chart!!!
We have the privilege to be amazed forever and ever

I've been framing simple and complex roofs and stairs for the past 52 years and you're right, it's just simple math.
Brag away, Dan. To so many of us, you are a superhero. My goodness, your work ethic, attention to detail, passion for this project, and can do attitude are everything to be admired. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You have created the perfect parenting response when your child there is no point with school, I will never use any of this learning. We can now say “if you go to school and do well at maths you can say they can move to France and renovate a chateau”. Great progress. Keep safe.
School pretty much is a waste of time because everything you learn is done in the real world with whatever job youre doing / learning.
@@StreetTruckinTitan yep. Fair point, it’s a means to an end.
@@StreetTruckinTitanNot for me. The math I learned in high school helped me tremendously as a computer programmer.
The complaints are a little silly here. While I am always waiting for the daily video, it’s important to be patient. Some of us get annoyed about wanting a video but our host is obviously not lazing around. My complaint is the worry. It’s dangerous work and I just hope Dan is safe and sound.
It’s absolutely phenomenal what you have achieved. Yes, brag Dan. The crowd watching you roars approval getting this roof so far. You really have done an amazing job.
What a great program on your computer to get the angles correct. The camellia is pretty and I am glad you planted them. Thank goodness you didn’t have to make all of those wooden pins by hand. I am impressed by all of your tools and yes they are a boon.
It will be fabulous to have the help of Calvin and Nick. You will accomplish everything you want to I’m sure.
Yay! Good for you Dan.
Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
This is coming from a grandma - your parents have got to be so proud of you! Well done!
The tools make the difference in whether or not you can achieve the build solo. They have been a great investment! The roof timbers are beautiful. What a legacy you are creating.
I continue to be amazed by what one man with friends and determination can achieve . I have been watching since the beginning and I love following your progress . Your heart is in the Chateau. Everything you do is done with love. Thanks for being such a positve force of human nature. Great job. 👍
Damn Dan. I’m so impressed. It kind of mind blowing what you’ve been able to achieve working alone when you actually stop and think about it. Congratulations. I always want to share these videos and be like “look what my friend Dan is doing.” Cause you feel like my friend. I’m proud of you. You are showing what we are really capable of. ❤
'Its just mafs, basic mafs' 😂. Well done, it looks painfully complicated to me but you make it seem so simple and easily done. Remarkable.
Great to see your garden blooming. Camellias are beautiful as is the roof. You are the Einstein of roof building a mathematical wonder. Fantastic.
Roses…. Beautiful !!
Dan you are the man !!
Carpenter… mathematician… a mason…. Plus more !!
Amazingly talented ‼️‼️👏👏👏
Dan this is a huge achievement and you say 'it's just Maths'. Your Math's teacher would be proud of you, that fitted like a glove.
Dan, your work ethic is off the chart. You are such a good roll model, they should show this type of work in schools
Very nice joinery work! A bit of showing it off, is not bragging. It's just showing what you have done. And it's worth looking at!
The blkom on the bush is beautiful. And most people think they will never need Trigonometry. You just never know. Well done Dan! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍😊👍❤️
INCREDIBLE Dan!!!!! You are a visionary person who can see the end result in what looked like a tear down place. You are making a castle rise from broken sticks. This was a incredible task you deserve much bragging rights from all your viewers and yourself. Thank you for always sharing this with the world to see. Much good thoughts your way to keep the nice weather around for at least 14 days.
Every time I think it's not really possible to do something practically by yourself, like putting up a roof, you prove me wrong! Dan, you're a miracle worker!
Yeah Dan, brag your brains out. Bust your buttons. A fantastic achievement. And you answered my previous silly inquiry into how the original builders did this without computers or lasers. BUT OF COURSE, THEY HAD MATHS, TOO! And like you, they also had the patience, the smarts, and the ingenuity required to apply it correctly. Beautiful work. On a beautiful day.
Its shouldnt "feel" like an accomplishment, it IS a HUGE accomplishment!!
To do a roof in a normal style would be hard enough on that building, let alone that old style!!
Well done, it is exciting to see the life come back to this grand old dame!!
What a fantastic job Dan !! I admire your perseverance, your talent for finding solutions, your skillfulness, your humility and the joy and the hope you're bringing to everything you do.
Sure, just some Math and a heck of a lot of hard work! Well done. The red flowers blooming near the beginning are beautiful too.
Math was never my strong suit so I am so impressed with how brilliantly you have made this roof structure come together perfectly. The workmanship is superb and you have every right to be proud of this accomplishment. Everyone who has followed your journey is as well. 👌
You remind me of a young version of my husband. Nothing is too difficult for you. You have the mindset, confidence, and skillset to make and do anything. I so enjoy watching this project.
Where's Dan ? Anyone else concerned like me ? It's been two days.

"I am all as amazed as you are...." 🤩🤩🤩 I vote for this video to be anointed the very best you ever did. And one of the best in youtube so far this year.
I get nervous when no videos for 2 days. Especially with the work he is doing on the roof by himself.
Dan is having so much fun with his new toys.! 😀The rights tools for the job makes so much difference. Thoroughly impressed with your woodworking skills, project management, your tenacity and of course your mad editing skills which makes these vlogs so captivating to watch. ❤️
What an accomplishment!
Extraordinary craftsmanship, brilliant! You should be very proud, and we appreciate you showing us your work! Cheers!
Dan- you are nothing short of miraculous. Your skills are insane and your vision blows me away! That roof is a thing of beauty. Well done!
I hope that each night, when you rewatch the footage to edit the videos, that you feel as proud of yourself as we feel watching these videos. I’m genuinely impressed by your determination and hard work.
I am being very serious when I say you are a Renaissance man. Yes, your schooling was worth it..but you learned the really difficult stuff which most of us threw up our hands in horror and tried to forget it! You have talents but you also learned he basics of nasty subjects like Maths. The same devotion to learning and details stood Michelangelo and leonardo in good standing. The did extraordinary things and you do too. Whether it is cooking, gardening or rebuilding a rather shaky old house, your love of real learning is the key to your success. Congratulations, I am back watching you (sad story)and enjoying it all. Is that a less rickety scaffold I see? Thank goodness, the other one gave me heart attacks every day!!
OMG Dan! That is freaking amazing that you did all that all by yourself! Brag away!! You have every right !!!
See ya tomorrow, hopefully mathematical it works out that way
Great job Dan. I am so impressed with what you are doing. The flowers that were blooming in your video are just beautiful. I like thousands of other are so excited to keep watching your progress.

"Feels like an an acheivement", thats an understatement! My goodness Dan, one minute your doing gardening, the next constructing a huge roof, on your own, for the first time. Its absolutely mind boggling. Still watching, marvellous job, a vertual grande pat on the back. 👏👏👏👏
So now we know how the pyramids were made, it was Dan with a gib lifter, a chain block and a hammer. Damn impressive work for one guy. Well done sir.
Oh my GOD Dan I held my breath on this one the whole time ! For Gods sake please have someone around on something this big .We care about you!Annah
Great achievement. When you put on the felt cover secure the edges with strips of wood screwed on top to avoid a strong wind ripping it off in no time.
What a beautiful morning to show off your magnificent construction well done
Does it look like he doesn’t know what he’s doing ? Seriously...
@@consideredwhisper didn't see it done on the sides. Sorry I dared to suggest something.
You need a t shirt that says “ I don’t want to brag, but…”
@@mimibergerac7792 It is a good suggestion, I was thinking the same thing, the temporary roof covering should be secured with something like 2" X 1" or it may be blown off, the sides are only secured with nails which the covering can rip from and leave the nails behind, hopefully Dan can attend to it!?!
I’ve been waiting for this! Dan really is a “Detail Man” with his calculations and methods of figuring out how to get the frames to the correct spot. This achievement is great to see, and I look forward to the watertight stage. So glad the weather is cooperating! Onward and upward!
