  • Hello everyone! Here is a compilation of a bit of morning action in Pittsburgh. The first place I visited was Station Square, on the South Side of the Monongahela River across from Downtown Pittsburgh. Station Square is the former home of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie offices, train station, and headquarters, which is all now converted into a shopping mall and sort of a museum. The former Pittsburgh and Laker Erie mainline, now operated by CSX, passes by on along the river. This route is part of the mainline between Chicago and Baltimore, the same route that goes over the Sand Patch Grade and into Cumberland. The other line at station square, operated by Norfolk Southern, is one of a few ex-Pennsylvania Railroad lines around Pittsburgh. This line connects the NS Pittsburgh Line down to Shire Oaks, Brownsville, and the coal mines of Southern Pennsylvania.
The second location we visited was the Norfolk Southern line through the Pittsburgh Amtrak Station, and there were two cool things to see. The first was an Allegheny Valley Railroad westbound manifest with two older EMDs, most likely SD40s, heading past the station and onto the Pittsburgh Line. The second cool thing, or things, to see were the ex-Pennsy Position Light signals, intact and still in active service. They probably won't be there much longer, but its good to see that they were still active in that spot. The only downside to this morning of railfanning was the low number of trains, five, but the catches were still pretty neat.
    Hope you enjoy the video!

Neat catch with the NS SD60E, NS D9-40CW, And the NS Ex-CR C40-8W pulling a coal train, By the way, I saw 8345 trailing on a manifest on June 8th, Great catch with the CSX Road Slug, CSX GP40-2, CSX Road Slug in YN3b, And the YN3b GP40-2 pulling a train with hoppers and centerbeams! Nice catch with the CSX YN2 C40-8W And the CSX YN3 Ex-CR C40-8W pulling a manifest! Sweet catch with those Red and Yellow locomotives, I don't know what railroad those were due to you recording it a bit too late, I looked at the second locomotive and it said AVR, Can you tell me exactly what railroad these locomotives were? Amazing catch with the NS SD60E, NS D9-44CW, And the NS D9-40CW pulling an Intermodal, And wow, The second locomotive sure gave a smokeshow

Thank you. The AVR stands for Allegheny Valley Railroad, and the two locomotives pulling that train were a pair of SD40s, old ones.
