Loving this game so far. I have a hard time playing Fallout 1 and 2, due to the perspective, but I find this a lot more playable. I like the pacing a lot more than Wasteland 2 as well. Almost done with the game and I really have to commended InExile for their writing.
Normally when I play an RPG I feel compelled to choose the morally good option no matter what because the "evil" and grey options are always too over the top.
However once things got a bit grey I ended up supporting a character that I would normally kill on the spot to the determent of another I really liked.
And it's also really amazing how used a loose plot thread from the last game to achieve this greyness.

Loving the game after 20 hours. I’m impressed by the balance between depth and accessibility. There’s plenty of choice and consequence and a lot to learn when building your characters, but it also does a great job with tutorials and getting you into the swing of things quickly. As you mentioned, I think it does a better job at this than other recent CRPG’s like Divinity 2 or Pillars of Eternity. It’s just got a brisk pace to it that makes a huge RPG like this feel a little less intimidating.
Also, infinite inventory weight! What an amazing change compared to most other western RPG’s.

Excellent video! I'm loving this game so far too - only about 20 hours in, but there's literally nothing I don't like about it, other than some of those sporadic technical issues here and there (like one fight against 3 razorbacks somehow dropped my fps to ~20, when I run at a smooth 60 against 7+ Payasos - very weird). I could go on for hours on how much fun I'm having, but suffice it to say, the combat, story, characters, chracter-build systems, and just overall "feel" of this game are top notch - great balance of dark humor, and just...dark scenarios in general. That Randy Gett quest at 3:11 man...I was thoroughly uncomfortable at the end of that one, and I love this game for making me feel that way
I also like what you said about the combat - I find myself favoring strictly turn-based CRPG combat these days (e.g. Wasteland 3, Divinity OS 1 and 2) over traditional pause-resume combat (e.g. Pillars of Eternity, Baldur's Gate). I think it's just much easier to really flex that "strategic muscle" without being bogged down by random issues like being in bad position because the AI decided to path strangely, pausing just 1 second too late to re-issue orders, and now one of our characters did something suboptimal that might cost you the fight, etc. In Wasteland 3, if you're out of position, or whiff a move to the point of no return, it's more often than not because you made a poor and/or needlessly risky decision (which I've done on several occasions, costing me entire encounters at times).

I remember the first true gameplay trailer they showed, I believe it was last year?. Was really mixed in terms of reception because people saw it was too humor based and the tone was wrong. Nothing further from the truth, the game has super dark tones and mixed crazyness like Wasteland 2, it is Wasteland. So far it's been great for me.
Everything I loved about 2 is here, and they got rid of some of the obscurity when it comes to for instance skills and what those skills do. Like initiative dictating which character will come in which turn and how far could they move, but there was no way of knowing for sure before a battle. Was kind of annoying.
It's a fun game, and for anyone like me who never played the original Fallout 1 or 2 and always wanted to have something like that, this is it. As I've said Wasteland 2 was great, this one is the natural evolution.

One Tip: In Wasteland 3 you can have Custom Avatar Pictures for your Rangers.
It works the same as for Wasteland 2.
Look for the folder were your savegame Folder is in:
    ...\Documents\my games\Wasteland3
There create a Folder named: Custom Portraits
In it you can post the Images that should become your new Avatars, BUT they not should be bigger then: 256x256
Ingame, go into the Character creation Menu and look for the Avatar Pictures. Normaly there are 3 Points under the Pictures for three Sides. This will expand, so there will be more to see and use.
Have Fun creating your own custom Crew ;-)
(If you still have your Wasteland2 Custom Avatar Folder, copy / paste it over. It should work just Fine.)

I hear a lot of people praising the turn system in the game, yet it is the thing I like the least about the game. Tbh, I couldn't play it anymore after about 10-15 hours through Game Pass on XBONE. I don't know what happened, I don't know what changed my mind, but there was a moment where I just thought 'I'm done', removed it from my library, and haven't felt a single compulsion to return. I mean, I played 300 hours of Fallout 4 at launch in '15 (and am currently slogging through Cyberpunk, willingly), but Wasteland 3 didn't last me 5% of that. I'm a big fan of Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition, so a video-gamey RPG is in my wheelhouse, and I enjoyed Fallout, so the genre works for me. But something clicked or didn't click with this for me. I don't know.

Just picked this up a few days ago and noticed a few bugs that you mentioned still In the game, wall humping, random noise keeps happening like I've uncovered a secret booby trap or dig spot, on xbox the combat system is janky (especially the stealth attacks, party management, sometimes trying to select an enemy to attack doesn't work properly) switching to the map screen causes my tv to flicker purple for 1 second and then it shows the map and modifying a weapon or armour doesn't bring up the menu and you have to reselect the option. It's a shame because I really enjoy this game, never tried wasteland before and I'm glad I decided to play it just wish the devs had patched some of these bugs as they are really annoying.

Having played the game for about 10hrs, here are some things I wish it had.
Custom grouping system like that of Divinity Original Sin. Right now the only options are All in Group, or No One in Group, and it's a pain in the ass to move each character to their spots individually, which also makes it feel too...game-y?
    A better Overwatch/Ambush system.
I really don't like the standard option of *shoot the first thing that enters your range.* I want to be able to tell the game to ONLY shoot when the enemy, or enemies I specify, attacks within/leaves/enters an area that I choose within my weapon's range.
Whether it be a special ability, or always available as part of the action, I just want the option, especially when the game has group combat initiative set by default.
The option for separate inventory for each character.
I actually enjoy the micro management on these slower paced games, really adds to the immersion.
The shared ammo pool in particular feels cheap, and i feel it robs me of great roleplay moments such is those where character A, who is decked out in high end gear, runs out of ammo, and character B, who has mostly invested in utility and social skills, goes out and fetches them some from the dead bodies out in the open, just barely making it back to character A with enough AP to give them the ammo thanks to their high speed.
I really expected this to be the RPG that goes all out with that, but sadly it opts for the easy route in some parts.
I DO, however, like the grouped enemy looting after an encounter.
Again, all I want are options.

    • @thegoatkibble

Wasteland 2 had seperate character inventory and you had to spend massive amounts of time micromanaging by swapping stuff between characters due to weight restrictions and running off to the shops every 10 minutes because all 7 squad members were 1kg away from simply not being able to move anymore. I think I spent equal amounts of time on inventory management as I did on actual gameplay so I can why they made this change in Wasteland 3.

I've been having quite a fun time playing it, I thought the long loading times were due to my potato (which the game keeps insisting it is below minimum specs, even though I run it at medium/40-ish FPS), the only complain I have is during conversations. You have to constantly click, space bar or enter to move forward, instead of letting it flow naturally, stopping only during choices (as is in every RPG).
The conversation boxes seem too clanky, I feel they could be streamlined (I don't know if that was an aesthetic type chosen to be more pleasing on console).
