    ..And to those who are speaking in the comment section saying that one tank is automatically better and would smash the other; tank warfare isn't just about the equipment. Better tactics and training always can trump equipment. Even older out of date tanks can defeat newer more modern tanks if their tactics are sound. Even a T-55A could penetrate rear of M1A2 Abrams in ideal ambush. Point is combat is more than just stat numbers.

      Condidering US Tanks would all become pillboxes by Russian EW, T-55's would easily be used for "mop up".

      It amuses me when people start talking about US vs Russian weapons and they don't consider nuclear weapons as part of equation. There is movie from late 80's "The day after" Soviets attacked and NATO launched nuclear weapons on their ground forces. It really doesn't matter how good equipped is your infantry if they got hit by nuclear weapons. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers are in open. Thy would simply die without any chance to survive. Same goes both ways. Tactical nuclear weapons would prevent both sides from gaining any advantage on battlefield.

      @@Tankliker the new t90m variant can protect itself from modern apdfs, finally comparable to modern western tank stnadards, although still not as amazing like them. And yes, Russia intends to upgrade all the T90A to T90m standard. This is because T90m is designed as a "tweaking" of T90A body. So that is the reason why T90A can be modified. Actually, the armoured carousel already exists in t90a, but not as good as t90m ofc. When 30 T90M was being produced, 10 of them were factory made while the other 20 was made by upgrading T90A. However, I am not sure if T90 can be upgraded to T90M since the jump is huge. Russia says " they will upgrade all the T90 tanks to T90M standards."

    I think the T-90MS is an outcome from the syrian war experience. They need to make the tank safe against threats in urban enviroments. Thats why the use the 360° field of view with independent commander sight and so on... The armor packages on the sides and rear of the tank are also important for the protection aspect. All that is a trend , which we can observe in all other nations too. That is a real important development in tank history.

    Regarding the never ending discussion on automatic loader VS crew loader :
    Keep in mind that a human loader get's tired while an automatic system doesn't.
    After all I imagine handling those 120mm shells to be quite exausting. That's while the combat effectiveness of a manually loaded tank suffers over time in long battles
    Moreover think going over 120mm is almost impossible with a human loader.
    Great video by the way :)

      As I said, it is too expensive, but Arena APS can be mounted on any Russian tank, but no tank has it in active service, the new gun is not mounted because current T-90A to T-90M upgrade does not require any gun change, so it is far cheaper and quicker to not implement the new gun, the gun of T-90M is good enough to deal with most threats.

      first generation thermal imagers are referred to have basically only one larger detector, with a mechanical scan creating a "2D" image
      second generation thermal imagers already have a few dozen detector elements, and their mechanical scanner can also create "deeper" images
      the third generation devices have a two dimentional arrays of detectors and usually have way higher resolutions. Some 3rd generation modules also don't have to use any scanning mech at all

      Nope. Go actually research the tank. You'll find it was mostly superior to anything NATO had that wasn't a Leopard 2, Challenger Mk.1 or an Abrams. Event those tanks early tungsten sabot rounds would have struggled with a T-72A's turret at longer ranges (+750m) The T-72Bs turret had the Soviet equivalent to Chobham armor and was far tougher. In addition; the early 120mm HEAT rounds available in the 1980's for the L44 were not powerful enough to penetrate either tanks frontal turret cheeks. They tested this on acquired East German T-72As after the iron curtain collapsed in the 1990's.

      No, T-80BVM doesn't have remote MG, it's a common misconception, only T-80 variants with remote MG are T-80UD and T-80UE. There is no information on Arena being implemented on any tank in active service

      Hard kill is too expensive for mass production, it is implemented on T-14 but T-14 is already a premium tank. But that does not mean they will never mount Arena on the new tanks, since Arena was designed to be universal for Russian tanks.

      Just imagine how huge a T-90M upgrade kit is! And it's definitely not a cheap one. Well and then there's the fact that T-90M is meant for Russia only so I doubt that there will be any "T-90M upgrade kit" for any export tank variant in the future.

      Tanks on the other hand...that's more difficult.
      T-14? Forget it! The only T-14 tanks the world will see for the next 5-15 years will be the ones that serve in Russia. I haven't read anything about planned export variants. Same goes to T-90M which is made for Russia only. Other nations can purchase the T-90MS which is the export variant. Those cost around 4.5 Million USD each. The good thing is, there's no upgrading etc. necessary. And 4.5 Mil USD isn't that much for one modern MBT. And believe me, sanctions or not, Russia can sell weapons to pretty much every nation they see as a trustworthy partner. Who'll stop them from doing it? Those maggots from the EU? The US? Russia doesn't care and that's good.

      Yes it is better, but there are not nearly as many T-80U tanks as T-80BV tanks, there have been updates to T-80U, T-80UE-1 being the newest variant from 2005 features new gun and FCS along with some engine upgrades. Only difference between T-80BVM and T-80UE-1 is protection, T-80UE-1 has better base armor (much better) but has old Kontakt-5 ERA, T-80BVM has old armor but has new Relikt ERA, when you look at it, they are pretty similar in protection, but T-80BVM has much better HEAT protection while T-80UE-1 has better APFSDS protection because the armor behind ERA is more modern with ceramic and steel plate inserts in the cast turret cavity.

      @RedEffectChannel  6 лет назад

      Yes there is info on it, from Tula confirmed penetration is 900mm at 2km which is, based on what we know, better than current western projectiles. And yes there is Vacuum-2 APFSDS but it is tungsten variant of Vacuum-1 which is DU, and because of that it is slightly inferior to Vacuum-1. It is in modern Russian practice to make a tungsten variant of original DU, like Svinets-1/2 I don't know they do it tho

    • @rubear6703
      @rubear6703 6 лет назад

      I think DU is cheaper right?

    • @RedEffectChannel
      @RedEffectChannel  6 лет назад +2

      It is stronger material by nature, but when it comes to penetrating DU is superior. There is a thing called sharpening effect which greatly enhances penetration, but the problem is that tungsten needs to travel 2000m/s to achieve that effect but so far there is no single APFSDS that reached that speed, for DU it is way less, that is why, for example M829A3 which is DU has very similar performance to DM53/63 (fired from L55) although having muzzle velocity of 1555m/s compared to DM53/63 that has over 1800m/s. Another thing is that because of sharpening effect DU melts and the damage done to the interior of the tank is much more devastating compared to tungsten.

    I heard somewhere that the RHA of the T72B turret against APFSDS is 690mm while the US APFSDS ammo developed to counter the Kontact-5 was of 730mm penetration, so with the supposed better armor of the T90A/T90M turrett plus the minimal but present protection on these ERA blocks would this ammo be stopped by the armor?

    • @RedEffectChannel
      @RedEffectChannel  6 лет назад +3

      The RHAe of T-72B vs APFSDS is 530mm without Kontakt-5. I don't know what does that have to do with T-90M, since it has completely different turret. Official information from UVZ states that together with Relikt it has over 800mm RHAe and also states that it can sustain fire from modern APFSDS such as US M829A3

    • @vatanak8146
      @vatanak8146 6 лет назад +1

      RedEffect so the front turret of the T90M can sustain fire from a Modern APFSDS, but what about the T80BVM? And does the front glacis of the T90M and T80BVM have ERA kits like the T72B3? And if it has which ones is it?

    • @RedEffectChannel
      @RedEffectChannel  6 лет назад +3

      As I said in the video, some experts believe T-80BVM can not sustain a hit from modern APFSDS and if it can, it would be from a distance.
      T-90M and T-80BVM have Relikt ERA while T-72B3 has Kontakt-5 ERA, T-72B3 definitely can not sustain a hit from a modern APFSDS.

  • @kden9772
    @kden9772 5 лет назад +3

    Ok so the way I see it the T80BVM is probably a pretty good idea. T80BVM is going to be a fast and maneuverable alternative to the less mobile T90A or T90M, and it will also cost less than T90M because much less work is put into the modernization while still putting in necessary features like 2nd gen thermal and the modern auto loader. The lack of CITV may be a problem, but M1A1 did very well in the gulf spotting targets at over 2 km without CITV and communication between units with CITV and without could offset the disadvantage. Also, I'm pretty sure Russia has a LOT of T80BVs because the soviet union wanted it to become their main MBT, but I could be wrong about that.
