- Rumor has it that Stellantis plans to replace the Hemi with the Hurricane Twin-Turbo i6 engine! The Hurricane Twin-Turbo i6 is rumored be used in both the 2024 Dodge Challenger and 2024 Dodge Charger models. These engines are also rumored to pack over 500+ horsepower which is more powerful than a couple of hemi models. If the rumors are true, how do you feel about the switch to a Twin Turbo i6 engine in a muscle car? Same! There has been no official news as of yet.
Preliminary test mules with the 3.0 Hurricane are running around as we speak. Yes they’re in current gen Chargers & Challengers, but that’s fine for powertrain validation. I can also say with certain authority that the Challenger nameplate is done with the current gen. The next-gen STLA-LARGE Charger WILL be offered in TWO and FOUR DOORS; making a Challenger redundant. Here’s some info that I haven’t heard mentioned at all in the press, but is one of several likely scenarios: Dodge isn’t ready to launch STLA-LARGE next gen cars- they would have begun to do so- at least in preparation- Even with a late launch. Dodge is considering running the current Charger and Challenger one more model year- BUT with the TT I6- insuring that they have some product to sell for the next model year (24’), and obviously not stepping on the toes of the last call owners. This info is coming right out of the plant. Notice how Dodge is mum on the 24’ lineup… just watch- they’ll be announcing this soon.
