    I have a Goal Zero Yeti 200x Power Station with a Nomad 50 Solar Panel and use it to power the Alpicool C20 portable refrigerator I bought on a Lightning deal on Amazon for $160. Off of the 200x battery power I get between 6 and 7 hours max, depending on the ambient temperature. I throw this in the back of my Tacoma TRD Off Road and run it off of the 110v plugin, it works great and has held up with some very rough wheeling and washboard type roads. The 200x can be solar charging and run the fridge at the same time, which is great for daytime hours, and as the sun sets, it kicks back into battery only mode. The Alpicool runs at about 25 to 35 Watts once cooled down. The Solar Panel charges about 45 Watts in full sun and with this setup, the 200x is usually fully charged by the end of the day, even in partial sun. I would have liked to have had the 500x model to have more battery life, however, it was cost prohibitive for me, perhaps in the future. For now, I also have a 12v cigarette lighter connection to my truck and I will run the fridge off of it for the few hours in the evening, then put it on the 200x for overnight. If I set the temp on the fridge to Eco mode at 20 degrees it will run on the 200x battery for up to 7 hours overnight. Overall I am very impressed with the build quality and the usability of such a small system, but it's too soon to tell about the reliability longer term. For those that asked, It does have customization for the min and max temp, C or F degree display, and along with the Max and Eco mode, it also has a regulator which shuts the unit down once it reaches a min voltage while running on battery. At the 20F setting, drinks and meats stay frozen on the bottom, and the top part of the fridge keeps things cold without freezing on top.

    Great review, I had a Dometic that cost around 700.00 dollars. it lasted about 4 months and the compressor went out. I live in South Georgia and I had a time finding a repair shop. I sent it off and it came back and went out again. I will check out this brand but maybe a 40qt size.

    I have this unit. it seems to like having something inside to conduct the cold with .. like aluminum cans, ice and even water. I've been able to use FREE solar and alternator current to run it from 7a-7pm and then turn it off overnight and it will keep meat and milk safely around 40F.

      With all fridges thermal mass is critical, as air flows quickly out of a cooled space - I keep a dozen or so little 8oz water bottles around to 'fill the space". I run it with a Rockpal 280wh battery bank that the solar keeps topped off. Seems to be the perfect little fridge

    • @12vLife
      @12vLife 5 лет назад

      @@ianmburke What kind of solar you have attached to the Rockpal? Is the Alpicool pulling 110v or 12v from the Rockpal and when the sun sets, how many hours can you run the fridge before voltage is too low? Thanks.

    I see a half volt drop across the cigarette lighter cord while running. I am either going to install a 12 to 24v boost converter at the battery and run a 24v socket plug somewhere, or upsize the wires... not sure which. Btw, the red bar swings out on the side of the cigarette lighter plug and my only guess is to use it to pull a blade fuse!

    I’m not so sure I’d trust an OEM 12v outlet to run a compressor fridge long-term. My Ram pickup needed one installed in the bed so I ran 10 gauge wire directly to the battery. The stock wiring that power the outlets in my console look like 20 gauge. Not sure I’d want a fridge pulling juice on that.

    Have you heard of heat dissipation/ ventilation causing an F1 errors? I'm set to H1 (9.6v) , but sometimes in the middle of the day when really hot outside I will get F1 errors though my battery is around 12v. How many hours you get from the Rockpal 280wh?

    • @ianmburke

      @@ianmburke so from your jeep you use an inverter? I just figured an inverter would result in losses. Another youtuber said the c15 will run on a 150 watt inverter and never peak above it. My thing is i don't want to have to think about turning the fridge off and on. I did just install a low voltage cutoff on my inverter after my battery died after sitting parked for a week. Some of those will draw 1 amp in idle.

    Is it better to use 12v from car or 120v AC- 240v AC via a pure wave inverter via the 12v from car?

    • @ianmburke
      @ianmburke  4 года назад

      I would avoid the car 12v unless you know for sure the wiring harness can handle the draw, it seems to run about 60watts when in freezer mode and 50watts in fridge mode which is about 4-5 amps constantly on that wire and as the battery voltage drops the ampers climb to handle the needed wattage which can cause an over stress on the vehicle wiring harness. That being said a LOT of vehicles DO have AUX ports rated for that kind of use. Personally I run my off of a pure sin wave inverter in the back of my Jeep that if solar charged

    • @bostinaycock8316
      @bostinaycock8316 3 года назад

      I actually tested the draw from both my pure sine inverter and via 12v and they were both exactly the same. The only difference is that you lose a few extra watts due to having to leave the inverter on. It doesn't really make sense to me because the 12v should be more efficient

    • @ianmburke
      @ianmburke  4 года назад

      It is obviously manufactured to be used with those outlets, however it is really easy to draw too many amps through those systems and I know a lot of vehicles that can have electrical issue after an overload that didn't blow a fuse. So I would just use caution or use the outlet that is the AUX and not the lighter specific one (as those do use high amps just for a super short period so the heat doesn't matter as much)

    I bought this same unit, it was a “deal of the day “ at amazon $159. I’m using it for the freezer function. It has been maintaining -2 to -4 f. Although it reads in Celsius. I can’t get it to convert over to Fahrenheit from things I’ve read. No big deal though. I travel for a living and wanted to bring along some frozen foods in addition to my built in fridge. I’m trying out the DC cord currently to see how it does. Friends of mine have similar freezers with no issues using the DC cords, since it is a smaller size. Friends also have the larger $400+ freezer/coolers but I really didn’t want to spend that much.
