    I have one of these Alpicool fridge/freezers 50L I bought over here in the UK. I've only had it a few days. I use it off of a small battery solar system. Once you get it to temperature it just seems to trickle take out of my battery. Very pleased with it hope it continues. Thanks Bob for your great and informative videos over the years.

    Just did a 3,643 mile trip with my 54 quart Alpicool dual zone (with Bluetooth). Loved it. Used an AUX battery at night while I slept in hotels...to keep the truck's starter battery from draining (and not having to drag it into the hotel with me). But, this thing uses such low power, prob wouldn't drain it too much. Great video...these Alpicool's are excellent. When not on the road...I use it on the back patio on AC power! Keeps my drinks icy cold. Just made a new AUX battery system...Dakota Lithium 54 aH (691 Wh)...about a Group 24 size and about 1/4 the weight vs the Group 31 size Trojan AGM I was using!

    I have been using the Alpicool T38 since October used it only as a fridge for 4 months, since the lockdown I used it as fridge and freezer, works great however it has Chinese plastic smell, so I am careful to seal everything so the smell doesn't affect the flavor, fits between front seats, of my 1990 b250 Dodge, would buy again, Mine had fast shipping and also cost $350.

    I have the Alpicool cf35, and love it. One thing not mentioned in the video is the light. The T60 like the cf35 has an internal LED light. It comes on when you open the lid, like your home fridge. It's great when getting something out of the fridge at night. The only drawback is the display light doesn't turn off, and it's bright. But you can make a cover for it. Or place the fridge in a way that the display light works as a night light. FYI my cf35 consumes 35w when running. At 75 deg ambient it will run 2 days on a 400w Saouki battery station. I have a 100w foldable solar panel. And never worry about power. I even keep a ebike charged with the system.

    I think the secret sauce is the word 'Danfoss Compressor' (now Secop). I'd guess that all these products that use these compressors have similar attributes with respect to power draw and temperature range. That would leave me to believe the difference between brands would be in build attributes such as thickness of the insulation, ruggedness of the case, ergonomics of the lid, etc. I was an early adopter and bought an ARB when they first appeared on Amazon for something like $1,200.00, so they have really decreased in price since then. Although I have been cautioned that these units are prone to bearing failure, mine is still running as expected. Because my ARB is not dual zone, I am not thinking about buying a smaller 30qt unit to use as a freezer, and using the 50qt ARB as the fridge. I'm very impressed that the 'dual zone' concept apparently works well as shown in this demonstration.

    Thanks for another great video!

    I have a smaller model T50, in the dual mode it's inefficient. With fridge set to 37 and freezer to -2, it does keep around 39 and 0, fluctuating a few degrees above and below. But it cycles 80% of time at the ambient 70, because of the freezer. 1400 WH lithium battery is down to zero in 48 hours. Poor insulation. Also, lame design - compressor is sitting under the freezer bin, as if freezer needed some help to stay warm. Could've at least put it under the fridge bin. There are a few Chinese boxes like this - Alpicool, Bodega, Costway, same design. I wrapped it into siver-ish Reflectix and also made a cover of an old bedspread, with about 1/4" wool-ish fill in it - NO notable change in performance. HVAC engineer, my acquaintance, shrugged when I told him about Reflectix, said that to get a notable improvement you need to put a 2" Styrofoam insulation around it.
    BUT, when you are not really living off this fridge, not keeping a lot of frozen stuff for a week or longer, don't need 0F in freezer and just need some ice, or don't need a freezer at all and use the entire box as a fridge - it cycles much less, few times less energy.

    Perfect timing. I am in the market for my fridge now so this info came in time. I really appreciate how you help and guide us out here. I clicked on your link and It is available on Amazon for $399. I am looking at a couple others but love the dual sections. My van is getting her basic build now with 200w Renergy and a Battleborne battery 12 v 100 ah until I can add more. I have the 2000 pure sine wave inverter. I was thinking I wanted the front open but have not decided yet. Cost is going to be a factor for sure.

    At $25 for the reflectix I would have paid less for a sheet of poly-iso insulation board or extruded polystyrene and built the covers, it has much better insulation value than the Reflectix from my experience.

    • @tonymai1844
      @tonymai1844 2 года назад +2

      yes, I'd make a whole box and duct tape the board all together. Well, the insulation cover is looking good, the reflextix is easy to do but the poly-iso board I think the best. I would use 1/3in ply wood box with 1in board inside will make up a case for the fridge. I can bolt the case down to the floor for safety.

    The price here is the showstopper, a proper compressor fridge - especially a dual zone - for this kind of money is really great. Dometic makes some very very nice models along the same principles, like the huge CFX 75 model, but that's well over three times the price or more. You can't compare either of these units to a cooler that doesn't use a compressor; this is a proper 100% refrigerator/freezer, not some thermoelectric unit that draws enormous amounts of power and cools very poorly.

    Thanks for the link I keep finding this under another name which I believe is the same thing which is a BODEGA BO-T50. If this one is out of stock you can look that that one up which I believe is the same thing rebranded. I saw in some reviews that apicool products sometimes get rebranded. Thanks for the review.

    Hi, I enjoyed the video, and want to buy one for my boat. I'm going to use it as freezer at -18-20C (about -4F), as I have a built in fridge in my boat. Do you know if this will maintain the desired temp as freezer at ambient about 35C (95F)?

    Thank you, Doug and Bob. This is very nice! As others have said, it's back in stock at this moment. The 36, 50 and 60. Bob, having problems getting onto the CRVL site. 2nd time I've joined and several days later can't get in. Similar problem first time I joined. Getting this msg: "Error establishing a database connection." I've updated my browser, cleared my cache, tried going to the site from various locations, typed in the address, etc., and getting the same msg. Why is a problem happening again? Just when I begin to explore the site it seems to mess up. Thanks for your help. Couldn't find anywhere to contact anyone about it. Also made a comment about it at the FBook page.

    Could you run this on a solar battery pack like the Jackery? What size would I need?

    • @markbtw7987
      @markbtw7987 4 года назад +2

      If you wanted to copy his setup you'd need the Jackery 1000, which is 1,000Wh, or 83.5Ah. So a little less of a battery than his (100Ah). But you could probably get away with a Jackery 500 because they have lithium batteries which can't be damaged by excessive discharge like his deep cycle battery. You could get a 100-watt solar panel but that's assuming you're going to be in a perfect location like him with full skies and few clouds. You'd be spending a lot more going the Jackery route instead of AGM battery and charge controller, but they do have the lithium battery in them so that is an advantage.

    I think if you put a layer of bubble wrap sandwiched between your reflective layers, you shoulder even better heat insulation performance.

    Why is everyone pushing these DC refrigerators? This one operates at 60 watts. It doesn't hold much and has a large footprint and it's expensive! My dorm style AC refrigerator from Wal-Mart costs $175 with 3 yr warranty, has 3.2 cubic feet capacity, is 28" h x 19" w x 19" deep. And only uses 67 watts WITH my invertor running. What do you guys know that I don't about these DC refrigerators?

    Great channel. I am going to making my move to nomadic living in June. I am going to be starting out checking out New Mexico. Any suggestions for a very isolated spot that would be cool in June. I was hoping for a spot with few to no people but not too far from water source.
