    Brought back memories when I went dussuldorf to Verona....I was riding a 1200 GS, banging my head, soon stopped and lowered suspension to sports setting, that helped

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад

      That's a good idea! It would have been fine if I didn't have the Tank bag on as the bike sits low when fully loaded. Oh well will know for next time ....if there is a next time lol.
      Verona is a really pretty city, from what I hear from others there used to be many options for motor rail connections .

    These are primarily car transport wagon that have been adapted to take motorcycles, non adjustable in height for tunnel roof clearance and weight saving. They are also used in Germany from Hamburg to München . Although I live fairly north between Hannover and Bremen I would never consider using one after seeing another utube video about it. Ride safe.

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +1

      The sports bikes had lots of room but in think adventure bikes are taller than average, still it would have been fine without the tank bag bag and if the screen was wound down first lol -will know for next time if there is a next time. The Motor train in Switzerland are not double deckers so there's no problem with head room (plus you stay on the vehicle). They are useful for saving the tires but also the train from Weilam rhein to Hamburg is rather expensive so might as well buy new tires lol
      Thanks for watching and we hope you have enjoyed the series!

    Done that journey twice on sports bikes, not yet on my gs, was skimming the top of my lid even then.
    Saw some gs riders practically with their chins on the tanks.
    Nowadays I take the scenic route
    Good vid btw

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Kempy, Yeah i think it's better suited to sports bikes - but even then it's a bit tight. That's what i would have done but my tank bag stopped me putting my head on the tank lol so kind of had to put it to the side which made it really awkward to ride on. Will try and void in the future but this time i had already gone over the service interval so needed to save the KMs.
      Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the rest of the channel.

      Yeah it was a little lol! Taking the tank
      Bag off first would have been a great help! ….expected there to be lots of head room like on the Swiss car trains.
      Last episode is out on Wednesday.

    Hi Sean and Emily! I did not expect the lom height of that train. I went from Hamburg to Italy and that was a train with roof and completly inside😊 Well we could hear when you hit your grad every time. Hope the helmet is ok.

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад

      Hi Johan, we weren't expecting that either! Like you say the only motor trains we have used have been full height. Yeah must have hit my head/helmet about 8 times. Might have been okay if i had taken the tank bag off but once once your on it's too late lol. Anyway i think this is the first and last time we will use this train lol 😊

  • @davidreed6817
    @davidreed6817 7 месяцев назад +1

    Jesus!! What a complete and utter balls up, (as somebody else mentioned) you could hear your helmet banging against the ceiling, I'd be sueing them for a new helmet. Well done Sean for seeing it through.

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +1

      It sure was, if you noticed before I got on I was waiting for the roof to raise up on hydraulics until I realized it was fixed lol! Pretty much caught every beam haha, i think without the Tank bag on it would have been okay as i couldn't tuck in, but if I hadn't have stopped to lower the screen that would have come off too. Think this was the first and last time we will use this. 😊

  • @Hinckley_Biker
    @Hinckley_Biker 7 месяцев назад +1

    Geez, getting parked on that train was a nightmare! Next new bike, the 1300GS? apparently the suspension lowers itself by 30mm at low speed? That would have been useful! Great episode, loved the night-ride 👍

      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +2

      haha it sure was! Ive never feared for Sean's head before lol We are still buzzing about the R1250 but who knows ...looking forwards to seeing the R1300 GSA later this year 😀
      Yeah that might have helped! the main issue was Sean hadn't taken the tank bag off so there was no room for his head lol

  • @jontaylor5322

    We did this train from Germany down to Austria on our Bosnia trip. I had the Tiger 1200 & just went for it, with my head on the tank, I think I still hit every beam, my helmet was trashed.... It saved us a lot of time though, the overnight run. I was told that route has stopped now... 😢😢😢
    We ended up in a cabin with a couple of others, but 1 of them kept being sick from the TOP bunk, so we moved to the seats and found they folded out, quite comfy...👍👍👍

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Jon, haha same for me! Problem was I hadn’t removed the tank bag so I couldn’t tuck in behind the screen lol still smacked my head on every other beam!
      There is still a train from north Germany to weilamrhein (next to basel) and a train from Austria to Turkey which we are thinking about, but after hearing about your cabin experience we might think again lol 😁

      Hey Sean,
      Just been going through my timeline, we did Dusseldorf to Innsbruck, this was the 1 I was told was stopping. I rememberin Dusseldorf, the station just being behind some houses & very small. I had a skinny tankbag & the big Ally topbox, as you say, tight doesn't do this justice.... Still an experience I'll never forget...
      Yep, check the seating out before going straight for your cabin, the seats were definitely the better option with little Miss Chuckalot above us.... We did take pity though & gave her some bottles of water...
      Looking forward to the next video. Happy New Year to both of you (even though your making me envious 😂😅😂, Spain our next trip)... 👍👍👍

      Hi Jon, yeah i think there is only a handful of Motor-trains left in Europe. Sounds like you had the same carriage as we did then.
      Never nice being sick whilst on the move, not nice for everyone involved lol I bet she was glad to get off that train.
      haha thanks very much and all the best to you too! Spain is a great country to tour! Perhaps you have already seen it but here is the heading south tour in case that's of any use to you.

    So much for taking the stress out of the journey... that looked like the exact opposite! Common sense would suggest that the bikes go on the upper level. I suspect that is far too much off a faff for the train loaders, so they just stick everyone on the bottom... frustrating. Great series though. I've enjoyed every moment of it 😊👍

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад

      haha yeah exactly! the irony lol. Also the subsequent journey inside the train didn't get any better. It pulled into the next station and hundreds of people pilled in, the lights stayed on all night and the train stopped at another 15 stops through the night -didn't get any sleep. Glad you have enjoyed it! the last episode of this playlist will be out on Wednesday. Sad that it's coming to an end but excited for this year's trips (wherever they might be 😊)

    Well done Sean, that wasn’t nice, especially on the ramp to train right at the beginning, that must have been a little unnerving, thinking how were you going to get off the bike, as for your head hitting the top, hope the crash helmet is ok,
    Bit stressful, Emily sounded really worried, and her face when you said about getting off the other end,
    I guess you won’t be doing that again,
    Safe travels guys
    Gary

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Gary, yeah it wasn't nice to be honest. I had imagined it to be like the swiss motor trains that have 1 level on the carriage and loads of space, Yeah the ramp up to the train was bad as I felt it would take my head off lol. The main issue was the tank bag as I couldn't tuck my head down behind the screen -will know for next time. The crash helmet isn't actually that bad, I think the peak actually acted as an early warning system =)
      Hopefully wont be doing that again, but it did save us going too much over the service warning interval so i guess it was worth it. Last episode of the tour is out tonight and we are feeling a bit rough after getting no sleep on the train lol.
      Thanks for watching

    that looks really low! I was going to use my Africa Twin on that but I think its higher than your GS - might have saved me there 👍

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, yeah it really was!! It’s funny I was sat waiting there thinking the roof was going to go up then people started shooting to go 🤣 the screen was about to catch on one of the bars so I lowered it but the biggest mistake was not to take the tank bag off as there wasn’t any room for my head so I had to ride with my head on the side 🤣. Anyway it’s fine in the end but my hat took some damage, one guy fell off 😳
      Won’t be taking it again! Feel free to stare it with anyone else thinking of taking this train 😎👍🏻

    • @MegaOmega55
      @MegaOmega55 7 месяцев назад

      not sure if you have any addons or diferent suspension on the bike but my GSA at its lowest compared to my friends Africa Twin, his AF is smaller but has a higher windschield. so its going to depend on the settings. i dont own a AF but for the GSA you can always decrease the suspension height with the click of a button and if realy needed open your seat up. turn the plate upside down wich lowers the seat and put the seat back on. that in itself would lower the bike a good 10+ centimeters.

    Crazy that space for the bike.
    Would it make a difference if u put the suspension on minimum setting

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 месяцев назад +1

      Perhaps but when fully loaded it's pretty much on the lower of the suspension settings, the main issue was the Tank Bag which didn't leave me with anywhere to put my head, but by the time i realized it was already on the thing.

  • @dvenohy1

    Remove the tankbag... than get with your chest on the tank. Plus you could set your bike to low mode. Than its a piece of cake.....
