@@brittneyr1128 Hi Makayla, I try to make it simple for you the reason I had the Leep was because I had an abnormal pap test. It's a small procedure your gynecologist she or he will do in the office. It's like you go for your annual check up. You get in a gown with the bottom half covered with sheet. You put you feet in the stirrups and numb you up with a vinegar solution.. Then she or he will insert the speculam in and it is a very small tube they insert to take your uterus.. And take pictures of it. When then my doctor did this procedure. It didn't take to long but a little painful. You may have spotting so bring a a pad with you or you may have a grainy discharge..When she or he are finished with you exam you are tdld to slid up on the exam table and then sit up. They will give you something for pain. You have to wait until the nurse comes back to give you your pain medicine. Then you can get dressed. I had someone drive me. I was scared to drive my self. If you have any questions about the procedure before you give your doctor the consent to do it you have to sign a piece of paper. Ask all the questions about the procedure you want. Write them down. It's helpful for you if you don't understand what she or he is saying, there will be a doctor and a medical assistant with you at all time. Three most important things to remember. great video! I had my first colpo done yesterday! My OBGYN told me not to Google the procedure because it might bring on more anxiety to having it done. However I wish I would've seen this video first. My only suggestion would be for to have seen the instruments you use for the removal of cells. My OBGYN used multiple circular scrub brushes to scrape cells off the cervix and that was the first time ever that I saw that. It was as if she was manually drilling into one spot of the cervix with each brush from big to small.
If application of the acetic acid doesn't draw out any abnormal cells, does that mean the patient just needs to do a follow-up Pap smear within 6 months?
Just had my third colpo today, and the pain has varied so much between all the procedures. Had biopsies with all three, first one barely hurt at all, second one was a little uncomfy, today’s was brutal. I have a super high pain tolerance and it still sucked. Been cramping and sore all day. Just goes to show that even in the same person the level of pain can vary. I’m sure it’s affected by anxiety about the procedure, but man if we could get even a little lidocaine spray or something it would be awesome.
Thank you Dr. Ali. I’m a CMA doing my externship at an OBGYN office. I appreciate your time and information in putting this video together. It was of great help 😊
Thank you for this video my obgyn sent this and it helped me prepare for my procedure I’m nervous and ready to see what’s going on with me and get things going.
Just got one done today. The vinegar stings a bit, but it was tolerable on my end. It felt uncomfortable when they remove pieces of tissue. Felt like hard pinching. Had to close my eyes tightly here and there cause of the pain. The swab in the end was the worst for me. I squeezed my own hand and teared up. Felt very very uncomfortable and it just hurt! Hang in there ladies!
Call every doctor until you find one that will use pain management. Alkalized lidocaine in a high enough dose to actually numb your cervix. If your doctor tells you your cervix doesn't have any nerves RUN. It does and you know that. You deserve pain management. It only took 45 sec to lance an infection on my finger but they used lidocaine. Why wouldn't they do the same on your cervix? It's barberic.

My PCM said he thinks we should wait a year. To redo the pap but I’m so scared to wait. I’ve been having so much pain almost everyday and randomly spotting. I have a colposcopy coming up in a couple weeks. This will be the first time I've had it done and I'm nervous and scared it's going to hurt. Is it painful having it done?
i’ve seen about half and half sayinf it was barely anything to it was the worst pain in their life and my friend has even had a baby and said it was extremely painful
So why wouldn't you do a colposcopy at the same time/same patient visit as PAPA test? Wouldn't you want to know if there are changes to the cervix tissue before taking smear for PAPA test? And from where to take it? (Colposcopy without biopsy)
Because identifying a cancer cells is not what regular physician can do, physician can take a pap but not identify cancerous cells on the cervix, they usually refer you to a specialist OBGYN who is also gynaecological surgeon.
@@vkrgfan I'm not from the US (have that in mind), but why wouldn't you just directly go to the OBGYN for regular checkups where they do see abnormalities with the use of colposcope and do PAPA smear or biopsy from the exact place that the changes are? Why would a regular physician even look at you? PAPA tests results are reliable only when taken from the right place, so without specialist being the one doing complete exam and seeing risk factors, it's basically useless. And the whole exam is done in no time, it's not like you spend an hour wasting OBGYN's time...
@@minazivkovic8816 idk about people who have established care, but for me, I had a normal physical do my pap at the school health center and referred me to an actual obgyn who had the full tools to get it done and test for other things. Even though it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, it was some what traumatic seeing the tools and the weird pain. The first biopsy was easy just felt like a period cramp and they had to take a second one which I’m sure was a bigger sample and it hurt like bad period cramps as well as pinching and burning, tugging and aching. Also I’m having really annoying itching/burning and I’m not sure if it’s from the solution they used ? I heard nothing of this in the side effects aftercare. I don’t want to do this shit ever againnnnn ugh just happy I got it over with. They only left the numbing cream on for a couple seconds so I’m sure it didn’t do anything
Can you do a video about colposcopy while pregnant and biopsy. I’m so scared. Idk if I want to wait after pregnancy or do it while pregnant. Only because I was reading hpv could be transmitted while delivering and the baby could have hpv in the throat and treatment must be done.
Thank you so much for this informative video. Do you have any insight on risks of a colposcopy? I’m mainly concerned about cervical stenosis, inability to carry a baby full-term, inability to deliver naturally, etc.
Ugh God I had to do this twice the first time didn't know what I was in for I was sweating and couldn't keep still. The second time I needed a volume cuz I was such a wreck the biopsy I could feel my stomach in knots when she was taking it out but thankfully after my son was born my pap was normal.
I stopped my severe endo pain with a paleo diet. I did the "Whole 30" and my terrible cramps (+bladder and digestive issues) dropped. Since then I've learned that dairy (especially cheese 😢) and sugars (even in breads, pastas, cereals) significantly increase my pain. It took 100% restriction, not just avoidance to make this dramatic difference. I know for some it's challenging, but so worth it to get your life back (skin, energy, brain health all improved as well)! I went from taking high dose ibuprofen for 7+ days to maybe one day of a natural cramp bark formula by Vitanica. Usually, I don't even take that. Magnesium glycinate is another great supplement for calming cramps and helping to decrease prostaglandins.

Ikr- mild is bull. I’m going in for one next week, and I asked for pain meds because I won’t let them cut something off my body without 😅 when it comes to uterine health it’s so downplayed which is unfortunate

Empty your bladder
Wiggle your toes, it will relax you during the procedure
Take slow deep breaths..In and out.
I hope this helps you.. And my best of luck to you during your procedure and I will be praying for you.

great video!
Was the procedure quick? Was it painful? I need one soon and I'm very nervous about it. Hope your results came back okay.
Along with all the other women on this comment section, I have to have this procedure as well. So thankyou ! We appreciate this !!
I’m scared to have mine. I really don’t want a biopsy
Thank you for the video I’m having one done in a few weeks 🙏🏼. Eres bien informativa para las mujeres 🙂
Thank you Dr. Ali. I’m a CMA doing my externship at an OBGYN office. I appreciate your time and information in putting this video together. It was of great help 😊
Thanks so much *MR OBALAR* on RUclips for curing me from Herpes, keep saving lives. ❤ …
This video was a good refresher to the knowledge I already had about it. Yes please make a video on the LEEP❤️
Hang in there ladies!
ladies it doesnt hurt. i just finished a while ago
Thanks so much *MR OBALAR* on RUclips for curing me from Herpes, keep saving lives. ❤ …
I did this today and it didn’t hurt at all I did have cramps after but nothing as sharp pain
But everyone’s different
Call every doctor until you find one that will use pain management. Alkalized lidocaine in a high enough dose to actually numb your cervix. If your doctor tells you your cervix doesn't have any nerves RUN. It does and you know that. You deserve pain management. It only took 45 sec to lance an infection on my finger but they used lidocaine. Why wouldn't they do the same on your cervix? It's barberic.
For sure, after having had 2 done at the same place and being refused meds the 2nd time, I'll be on the hunt for a new dr next time.
I'll tell everyone about you *MR OBALAR* coming across your RUclips channel was a blessing, I'm free from hpv,,victory at last..❤❤❤
Thank you soo much for this video! I have been having soo much pelvic pain for the last year and a half… I just got a pap about a month ago and it’s pre cancerous cells. My PCM said he thinks we should wait a year. To redo the pap but I’m so scared to wait. I’ve been having so much pain almost everyday and randomly spotting. I hope I can have the right words to express my concern and that the doctor listens to me. I have had a friend that did a LEEP so I would so appreciate you making a video for that! 💕💕 thanks again for all the info!!!

That's terrible (and terribly frightening). Did they offer the procedure under anesthesia?
I asked about pain management and told the NP I was nervous, she recommended to do it under anesthesia.
New sub here !! My anxiety is through the roof lol this is very educational thank you
What causes anal Pap smear come up with ASCUS when I’m hpv negative for high and low risk HPV strains
Had it done wasn't painful very little cramping only leaked the first few days a Tanish color what they used to stop any bleeding
I just got it done and im in sooo much pain… and im bleeding alot like if i just got my period really heavy 😭 and found out I have some small cysts 😢im so sad
Praying they can be removed 🙏
I’m so so scared my papsmare test were negative during pregnancy 🤰 I had delivered my baby already I’m scheduled to do Colpo tomorrow to confirm any abnormalities I’m so scared it could be cancer 😢😭😭
@@StanieMaba don’t worry everything will be fine you will see! My test came back normal . It was just the pap smear that came back abnormal and my colpo was good. 🤞🏼 you will get good news trust me .
I love you Dr.Alley!! 🎉Nancy ❤🙏🌻you are so good at explaining, and thank you for helping me with my biopsy Thursday. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🎁😊☀️
I had an abnormal pap on 5/8 with high risk HPV positive results. This is the first abnormal pap I've ever had. I'm 45. I had an endometrial biopsy a few years ago and it was very painful.

I need the referral so my health insurance doesn’t charge me thousands. I think healthcare in the US is not easy to navigate and further made difficult through insurance issues
Very informative thank you. If you re-watch the vid as a newbie...(red flags 🎌) Door is open and table paper is shredded; the room is not properly prepped.
You made that so easy I wish I would’ve seen this before but I wasn’t that concerned. Do you have the actual tools used for this
Great vidoe , I had same problem HPV in high level and I did colposcopy 3 years agon,
After that treatment Iam not like before , I have discharge dark brown or dark black every month 5 days before period .
I had scan every thing normal but I dont know about this doscharge .
I had this done yesterday and it was not painful
Very pedagogical video congratulations professor!
This helped so much with my counselling station for obgyn osce! Ty

Can you do a video about colposcopy while pregnant and biopsy. I’m so scared. Idk if I want to wait after pregnancy or do it while pregnant. Only because I was reading hpv could be transmitted while delivering and the baby could have hpv in the throat and treatment must be done.
Hi There, Any Updates? Currently Going Through This As Well.
Any update here please
Thank you so much for this informative video. Do you have any insight on risks of a colposcopy? I’m mainly concerned about cervical stenosis, inability to carry a baby full-term, inability to deliver naturally, etc.
I have a colposcopy tomorrow. I'm scared
How are you? I will have soon.im positive in HPV and result of my papsmear is abnormal
How did it go?
It went really well, I was petrified but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be and I got the all clear
Great video, this puts me at ease now
I'm waiting for my results from my February 19th pap test.. hoping for the best results.
Ugh God I had to do this twice the first time didn't know what I was in for I was sweating and couldn't keep still. The second time I needed a volume cuz I was such a wreck the biopsy I could feel my stomach in knots when she was taking it out but thankfully after my son was born my pap was normal.
Please make a video on Endometriosis and how to deal with the pain
It's hard to be a women I was diagnosed with endometriosis and hpv 😢
Loved the information! Still waiting on my dr. for more information about my abnormal pap, how long should I wait for my Gyn office to reach out, or should I just call and inquire? Also, your hair looks amazing.
my test came back abnormal for hpv. is that the same as a Positive? im currently waiting for my gynoco to give me the next steps and im sure i will have to get a colposcopy. so i just want to say thank you for this video, it really helped a lot with my nerves. im just ready to get this all done with i have enough going on mentally as it is. just ready to put this colposcopy behind me and see whats next after that. and whatever is next, i just pray it goes quickly and reading all these comments gave me a little sigh of relief, i didnt think it was so many women that has positive or abnormal hpv. im still trying to figure out whats the difference/ or if theres a difference with POSITIVE and ABNORMAL hpv. thanks ladies, we as women can always use a good PICK ME UP and tell one another everything is going to be ok......
Why can’t this be all done in the O.R .. I’m freaking out I need to get this done .. plus another one before this one 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 I’m 58 years old and since I hit this age in dec 22 has not been treating me well at all never thought 2023 I be facing a chance of having cancer 😭😭😭😭😭😭
How did it go?
@@elyssa8689 hi sorry took me forever to respond.. everything went perfectly thank you so much for asking
Hi I just love your videos. I am a new registered nurse on the labor and delivery floor. I would love if you could do a FHR Reading and interpretation and possibly protocols or interventions from OBGYN perspective.PLEASE and Thank you so much!
Also what do you like to hear in a SBAR?
So if I got an abnormal pap but a negative colposcopy. No dysplasia. Which would would should I believe. I still feel really confused. Even the doctor right after surgery said your cervix looked healthy to the naked eye.

Idk “mild cramping” was pretty intense. It was hard for me to drive home after and sleeping that night was not happening due to the cramping. Sad this is “mild.” I have a high pain tolerance too and this was a very different experience for me.
Ikr- mild is bull. I’m going in for one next week, and I asked for pain meds because I won’t let them cut something off my body without 😅 when it comes to uterine health it’s so downplayed which is unfortunate
@playfulbortercollie I asked because this was my 2nd time so I already knew what it was like. They basically told me, take motrin. Yeah, motrin ain't it. It doesn't work for this pain!
@@Randaronii I totally agree!
I’m in my second day of recovery and I feel like a did a lower ab workout plus cramps it hurts 😢
I so can't do this.. I have one coming up on the 17th of this month.. I'm totally crying over this.. I so want to cancel this...
How did it go? Mines in the morning and I’m very afraid since I already have everyday cramping and pain
@@kittykat1448 I canceled mine out.. there is way too many women that had this done and says that it's extremely painful.. Doctors and nurses always downplay how painful a procedure really is so that you get it done.. I didn't want to be in pain for days after, I didn't want bleeding and discharge for days afterwards as well, and I didn't want chunks taken out.. Do research on what on your doctor told you if you have 16/18 and 45 then you basically have no choice in getting it done. And if your pap came back Lsil or Hsil then the same thing you gave no choice.. All doctors follow guidelines in scheduling different tests and etc. For me I feel like I can hold off until next year and get a repeat pap, and HPV test and if things change then I'll have to get one done.
i would say ur not gonna do the biopsy without meds or put to sleep. or just do the scope and go to another doctor who will give u meds, and usually hpv goes away within a year or two so at ur next pap if its still irregular maybe then look into
@@ava_adamsg are you replying to me? If so I already know about HPV going away on it's own. I already know about my results and I have planned my own way to go about them which was to redo the pap and the HPV test this year then go from there if it shows up worse results. The doctor that I did have well she isn't my doctor anymore, her choice not mine. Thanks..
I just had this done today under sedation. My pain tolerance is ZERO! We are in this together 🤍

At the end of the colposcopy, does the dr wash away the vinegar? Im worried about lingering pain, especially if they do a biopsy
In Canada you are lucky if you don't have to wait 12 months to see a gyne.
when getting a colposcopy done, does the doctor give you something to relax you? or does the procedure goes exactly like a pap smear? and it be so uncomfortable to have that plastic device stuffed in your vaginal walls... and knowing that ive never used plastic and all this other crazy things stores sell for sex. it is extremely extremely uncomfortable for me when getting my pap smear done. plastics and all these other grotesque things women use in their body parts are crazy. i couldnt and wouldnt. yall can keep yall sex toys

Do we get local anaesthetic before a biopsy is done? I don’t imagine a doctor would take a forceps & cut a piece of flesh off my hand without anaesthetic….

Ya, I call BS!! You doctors need to add numbing injections to this procedure!!!
There is absolutely no reason not to!! 😡

There is when you're absolutely terrified of needles, especially if you've had a bad experience with needles down there.
