You were spot on ..all it needed was a new transmission
With these Taco's it usually pays to buy them new, maintain them a s plan running them into the ground. If you change your mind you can always sell it for top dollar.
I saved a ton buying a used 2020 vs a new 2024, plus I have the legendary 2TR-FE iron block engine vs an aluminum turbo.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q yea I would think it would be better to buy one a little bit used and then run it into the ground versus new.
Another reason I bought TRD pro 4Runner. Last great vehicle on the planet. Resale will reflect that. I don’t care how great the 6th gen could be. No question this 5th gen is a classic iconic relic that will be highly sought after.
9:00 minute mark Ben you are right on. That would be a great power train!
And that doesn’t even take into account the reality of paying more msrp+markups for currently a less performing engine
I definitely love Tacoma’s. But I think I love the idea of them more than the actual vehicle itself. I’m no fan boy of any manufacturer either. But I have owned quite a bit. To list I have had 2004 dodge ram 2500 cummins(regret selling), 2018 ram 2500 cummins(too big and too much cost to maintenance) , 2020 Toyota Tacoma trd off road and sold that and now own a 2007 Toyota fj cruiser(mildly perfectly modded) and a 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 trailboss with the Duramax. I will say I have loved all of them. No issues with any manufacturer. For the Tacoma I think unless your single no kids or it’s just you and the significant other then they’re just too small. We have one kid and some dogs. And we traveled the country in the Tacoma but man was it tight. Loving the Trail boss right now. Comfortable travel. Waaaay better on gas. Lot more room but not so big like the newer HD trucks. Just rambling thoughts.
I undercoated my 2023 Tacoma trd pro and now regretting it. All these RUclips snobs saying I ruined it. Debating on selling it for something else
I'll be getting a fully loaded frontier pro4x next year or so, since it's 10k+ less than this truck. But don't get me wrong, this is truck I'd pick over any if the prices were equal
Everyone switching to the turbo 4-cylinder because of the federal emission requirements. It's that, it's going to take them a bit in order to get it right. Obviously they've got some bugs to work out at the moment but this was kind of expected.
If you tune them they are so much better but should have came that way from the factory. Stock throttle response is garbage otherwise awesome truck
Accurate video Ben👍🏻. Overall, the third gen Tacoma has proven itself to last the long haul however the 4th gen…….not sure.🤷♂️. I have a 22 TRD PRO and test drove a 2024 Tacoma trd off-road and was very disappointed; especially after ALL the hype. Time will tell with the current Tacoma.😳
I bought my 2022 4Runner TRD Pro brand new, put 72K miles in it in 2 years, and sold it 2 months ago and still came out with $3K profit. Crazy the resale value of these Pros, especially in a special TRD color. The downside is that these trucks (Tacoma and 4Runner) feel so old. A lot of people love that and there’s nothing wrong with that. I just wanted a modern vehicle with lane centering, newer tech, modern comfort, etc.
Missed the 4Runner but don’t regret selling it at all. My current vehicle now (non-Toyota) is the best vehicle I’ve owned.
Curious what vehicle you own now that you're more happy with than the Toyota?
@@blazing2557Ford F-150 Raptor with the 37 package. It's just a superior vehicle vs. any Toyota vehicle in every way. Drives like a Mercedes S Class on road but turns into a trophy truck offroad. Idk...I've had this truck for a year and put about 40K miles on it, and haven't had a single problem. That's why personally Idk if I can continue to justify paying for Toyota vehicles (which are getting very expensive right now) vs. what I get out of them when the competition makes great vehicles as well.
@@whocaresjustdoit very nice! I own a first gen Raptor myself but if I go newer, I would definitely consider a gen 3 raptor and 37 pp is definitely nice as well. I'm glad to hear you've really enjoyed it. I agree, I don't understand the prices of new toyotas or many manufacturers for that matter.
Ben, love the new look! You could play in Black Label Society🔥😎
@05:50 - You got it spot on. They'll make or remove features that make it objectively worse. Also, who thought it was good idea to remove the back cleat rail? And the 2024 itself is seems to be a step back for the entire Tacoma lineage.
it depends on condition mileage and options oh and Toyotas are known for lasting at min 250k miles when maintained well so yeah they hold resale value for ex an 05 Camry LE sedan with less than 40,000 miles on it at 20 years old is currently worth $4,820 according to Kelly Blue Book well for ex a 2018 Mercedes Benz S 560 L is worth 38,441
I keep telling people the 3.5 in the taco is so boring compared to the 4.0. I have the original 4.0 single VVTi and at 6100 pounds rolling 35x12.5s and it still barks the tires off the line. A stock Tacoma with a 3.5 is so weak it cant apin its tires on ice lol. I will never understand why sales of the 3.5 taco were so strong.
Just regear and you're golden. Not even that expensive
@m.687 I've tested a 4.88 Taco. It fixed the annoying gear hunting but you can still tell it's high strung.
@@CACressida It's never bothered me but it's my first Tacoma. Hoping to get 300k miles out of it but scared what type of engines will be available when it's time to replace it
Love the color on the Toyota Tacoma TRD pro
Bought my 21 pro with 24k miles for 47k. I love it. I could have bought a 4runner which is nice but feel the tacoma is the better off-roader. Also the 4runner is a gas hog.
With the new Tacomas costing so much, I guess it helps with the resale value of used cars.
Also "Miyer" similar to "Toyoduh". Maybe just for me. Not a bad thing anyway
Cultists buy these vehicles. There’s nothing special about them, except a weekly shock at the pump. Toyota disgraced themselves with subpar engineering and getting into politics. They could have done better, but that would require common sense and opposing politicians bent on killing fossil fuels. As Ben said, all that was needed was an updated transmission and a hybrid battery. They didn’t need to replace the analog gauges with digital ones or install screens everywhere. I’ve driven both the Tacoma and the 4Runner, and the Tacoma was the most lackluster of the two. Just a sad vehicle, especially for daily driving. Both are gas hogs, yet offer little convenience or practicality. I’ve never aspired to own either. I do, however, own a Toyota, and I’m sure it’s the last good one they’re making. Soon their turbo shenanigans will catch up to them, and they’ll become something like Nissan, but they won’t even reach Audi’s level-Audis’ turbos will be more reliable than Toyota’s.
Audi and VW turbos crush the competition
That's why I got rid of my 3rd generation tacoma that 3.5 V-6 under power V-6 and that bad transmission 6 speed automatic never finding the right gear and very bad driving position with the seats I'm so glad I have the 2024 tacoma TRD off-road now they fixed everything now I have 13,000 miles now trouble free so for all we can do is see how they hold up
Someone traded this in on a Chevy…haha
There’s good chevys out there. Just depends which you get
It likely was a full size then. With full size trucks the Tundra is no longer a top contender after 2021 for Toyota people. Ford or Chevy.
Ford, Chevy, Toyota dealerships in one
I have identical one same color also automatic I got new last October, 7k miles now almost exclusive long road trips. Mine has the predator steps these are different. Wouldn’t dare trade it for a GM vehicle 😄
2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO Solar Octane Crew Cab 4X4!
Try Spoyota, Toyotas do spoil us owners.
Why didn't toyota put a 10 speed in it...they put one in the tundra?
That's every car brand nowadays because of the EPA
I dnt think its the EPA, its the incentives that they receive from government for mainting the Epa. They should have given choice of v6, like every other manufacturers.
Good Morning!!👍
The government is making all manufacturers go to the 4 cylinder motor because of lower emissions.
You actually believe the elites who fly around on private jets to have face to face meetings care about emissions? The government does what its politicians are paid to tell it to do.
Nissan frontier would like a word with you. Still going strong with their V6.
The new Taco being such crap is driving the "resale" of these. Toyota is stuck on stupid sadly. This truck and the current 4runner while great aint worth the price dealers are charging.
You sound just like Scotty Kilmer. You’re right. So is he. Big mistake for Toyota.
Screw hybrid…just tune the V6 and get a kick but transmission in there. Done!
