My grandpa had dementia and was with my grandma for 65 years. He didn’t remember any of his kids or myself. Towards the end I would sit with him at his house and play old music. I played “I’ll Be Seeing You”, and suddenly he started singing the words, the first time he’d shown any signs of memory. I recorded it and he passed days later. We played that song at his funeral.
Ik I’m late but I’m so so sorry for ur loss . Losing someone is never easy but what you did at his funeral was beautiful and an amazing way to honor him
The mom was trying to tell her to pick Noah bc she didn’t want Ally to marry a man for security like she did, here she is 25 years later still spying on the real love of her life
See I don’t see it exactly like that. I think the mom doesn’t regret the choice she made of marrying someone else. I think she just wonders what might’ve and could’ve been because of how much she loved that other man once upon a time. So at this point she is no longer trying to make the choice for her daughter, she’s just showing her that she understands her more than she (ally) ever knew and that she wants her to have all of the info befire she makes this big life decision and doesn’t look back wondering what might’ve been. This is why at the end of that scene she hands her all of the letters and tells her she hopes she makes the right choice but doesn’t say what she thinks that choice is.
i second this. i never see anyone react to it, but it's so beautiful and so special. it's "quieter" than the notebook as the notebook seems to be the one everyone always talks about and goes towards but a walk to remember truly is so special and beautiful too.
This movie is so beautifully done and heartbreaking also Ryan gosling acting in that scene trying to persuade her back was great cant wait for the next movie keep up the great work
"lon f-'d her like a weirdo" omg. "choking from laughing so hard" was not on my "watching the notebook" bingo card. y'all are wonderful. thank you for this reaction. i'm glad you enjoyed the movie. hearing y'all swoon over ryan gosling was everything. see you next movie reaction :)
My theory: I feel like when she started getting dementia, he probably sold the house to someone who would turn it into hospice so she could stay in the house. This is probably explained in the books lol
Actually we find out in the 2nd book, The Wedding, that only Allie died and Noah moves to a retirement home where he goes to the pond on the property everyday to feed a swan that he believes is Allie's soul. The book is told from the point of view of one of Noah and Allie's son in laws. The house Noah built sat empty and in need of repair until the son in law fixed it up, but I won't tell you why. I don't want to spoil the ending.
What a beautiful reaction. Thank you, guys❤ I love this movie. My Mom and my Dad died on the same day, only one hour apart from each other. After a very hard life, in the end, they at least got the gift of leaving together.
Yes this is a classic and to explain the scene where Allie and her mom go to that place where the guys were working allie’s mom was in the exact same position as Allie where she loved a man who was poor and her parents were against it because of that and she later ended up meeting allie’s dad (Allie’s Lon) and married him because he was rich and could provide security so she basically chose a life with money over true love so the point she was trying to make was to not make the same Mistake she did
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Notebook, but I thought the mom was telling Allie that she herself loved someone that her parents deemed below her and forced her to marry someone else. She would go back to see the man she first loved and thinks about a different life, a life that was forced on her that she realizes now she doesn’t want to force on her daughter. Not excusing her actions with the letters just an FYI!
I’ve been binge watching your videos for three days now, joined your patreon on the second day. I have NEVER loved a channel so fast, especially your kdrama reactions. Love you guys!!
Here after your Mean Girls reaction. Since you're on a Rachel McAdams kick, I'll also recommend "Red Eye" which is more of a thriller. I know "The Notebook" gets a lot of hate for being a cliche romance movie but I think the story and acting is really good. I saw it when it came out on video when I was about 13.
I remember watching this years ago. My story is too long to write in a RUclips comment, but I fell in love with a girl, and then got my heart broken. After the heartbreak, I literally couldn't even stand up straight for a few days because the pain in my heart was so bad heh. And then, for some reason, I watched The Notebook for the first time, and just bawled my eyes out. I've never watched it again, ha. But this movie really is a great love story. It's like the perfect story of how everybody wishes their love and their lives had played out.
I loved watching you guys during this. You were silent and laser focused, especially when Allie showed up at Noah's house after all those years. Also, during the boat and the dock scene and of course at the end when Allie got lost again. Great reaction 👍
My grandma died while having dementia but even until the end, we would get glimpses of the pieces of her we shared together. It makes you appreciate those moments even more. I think this is the 5th time I have watched it, since it's release because it just hits that button deeply for me. Thank you for laughs when necessary!! "A Walk To Remember" is one that I told my teenager to watch because they bet me it wasn't as sad as I made it seem. I saw it twice when it came out, bought the soundtrack...but that one..is tough too. They asked me if I wanted to watch it and I said "Hell to tha NO"!! They came out of the room saying they'll never watch it again lol.
yooo why am I just noticing the baby doll in the background? I thought I was trippin! xD but really love your reactions! The Notebook is definitely one of my favorite love movies!
Haven’t even finished the video yet I decided to click on the saying that there were three dudes dedicating an hours worth of editing into watching this video and posting it! I’m here for it no matter what because of the time dedicated! Thank you!
Also new sub here, you guys are awesome and I applaud you for watching these movies without jaundice, like so many guys would. There's just so many parts of the human condition that are explored in movies like these, but it's hard to watch them without taking hits to the "manliness", at least in this limiting culture anyway, unless you are secure in yourselves, and I think that's awesome that y'all are admitting to emotions without feeling ashamed of it, because you are humans and you should be allowed to have those human emotions, so you're awesome and it's great to see you guys stretching your wings and watching these!
Not a romcom, but a tearjerker all the same, is The Green Mile. It’s based on a Stephen King novel, and imo, one of the best movies ever made. It’s the kind of film that really stays with you years. It stars Tom Hanks and the late Michael Clark Duncan (may he rest in peace).
I don't know if anybody said it yet, but at least from a female perspective what I got from the conversation with the mother is that... Ok,she said "I love your father", like, "I don't want you to think I don't"... but what she's saying is she never stopped loving this guy, but she made the safe choice, so she was basically saying, "maybe you'll be brave enough to make the choice that I didn't make". I don't know if that makes any sense. It was also her way of explaining why she acted the way she did; because she knew it was serious, *because* she'd been there. So while the dad was just blowing it off as summer love, no big, she was the one who knew how this could go, knew how real it was and what choice her daughter might make, because she had already done it herself, and at the time, when they were younger, she thought she had made the correct choice... but now she wonders, watching her daughter go through the same thing... She said she wondered what her life would be like if she had made the other choice; she wouldn't wonder if she was sure she had made the correct one, if that makes sense? So when she was saying, "I love your father and I do not deserve him", what she's saying is, "you'll probably feel the same way, I know you also love Lon, and you might feel like you don't deserve him, but that's not a reason to choose him; you've got to make whatever choice is right for *you*". Eventually she's saying the same thing as Noah did but in more words. And it comes different when it comes from the parent who's the same gender as you I think then it comes from a person who has more of a vested interest in it if I am making any sense. I don't know if that helps any.
I think it is a retirement home. I don’t think it’s directly stated in the book or by Nicholas Sparks himself (may be wrong though), but my good guess is while they were looking for retirement homes to have her stay in long term they prob figured (maybe before she progressed a lot more) that the retirement home was a good one because of it resembling the home I would assume her and Noah lived in for majority of their lives together and raised their kids in. This way maybe living in a place that resembles most like home (white panels, wrap around balcony) will make remembering easier and how she puts it in the book, make it easier to “come back to Noah.” Really sad but shows the harsh reality of this disease.
i absolutely love this movie and my biggest pet peeve is peoples moral compass with it, like what they have was true love and it transcend time itself. like everyone was so quick to demonize allie but what about noah, engaged or not he was involved with someone, being engaged doesnt make a difference
I've always been a sucker for a walk to remember but watching the note book today for the first time was much more better then I expected the fact that it's based on a true story and real events just made me cry so bad😭💔
I always tell my daughter that if she's a bird I'm a bird. She wrote it for me on one of the pictures she made me. One day she will see this movie and she will understand why I love her so much. My husband and I's relationship was like this... we were like completely obsessed with each other for most of our relationship. And now we have 2 beautiful kids from it. Love seeing you guys react to this and sorry I'm late to the party...
I feel like you guys would LOVE 500 Days of Summer. its one of my favorites, not a tear-jerker, but insanely well done and another Joseph Gordon-Levitt romcom. if you wanna cry: A Star is Born (2018), The Vow, A Marriage Story, A Walk To Remember, Remember Me, Love & Other Drugs, The Time Traveler's Wife, Revolutionary Road, Me Before You
When her mom took her to that construction site she was basically telling her to follow her heart. She didn’t marry for love and she didn’t want her daughter to be unhappy for the rest of her life.
Nice selection. Fun viewing with y'all. Thanks for that. Sam Shepard is pretty cool casting as the pops. He was a pretty cool quiet-type Ryan Gosling back in his day. You should try The Right Stuff... a massive cast that you'd probably recognize 'today'. - hope to see ya do more flicks!
I ADORED this film when I was 16. Now, I can recognize how utterly toxic almost all of it is. Him, pressuring her into a date, their whole almost violent, co-dependent relationship. red flags so big the UdSSR gets jealous, I mean..jeeeez! The only sweet bit is the commitment when they're old, the reading and the very end when they die in each others arms. And even that...slightly tinged because it may well be argued that he only does it for selfish reasons - because it clearly upsets her often and a lot mentally and him, physically.
I believe wat the mom was doing at the end there was trying to right her wrongs. She obvs feels bad about keeping those letters from her. I can’t imagine her being totally fine with that, especially knowing how sad her daughter was. I believe the scene at the end is her trying to redeem herself and her character and right the wrong (of her keeping those letters from her daughter) and inevitably keeping the love of her life away from her). At the time, she prob thought she was doing the right thing. Ensuring her daughter gets a good education, meets a man that will treat her good, keep her safe and secure, everything that Lon was and everything that does happen. I feel the mom sometimes thinks “what if I ended up with this man (not her husband, other guy.” What if I choose him. Would I be happier? What if I decided I want to live with him? She prob does not want her daughter to feel like that because she knows all too well how that feels. Al and Noah separated once before, clearly. The fact that they somehow rekindled everything years later symbolizes a) their deep love for each other and b) maybe this is the man Al was supposed to end up with. With Lon , yes she would have felt safe and secure. Heck she probably would have been happy. But that “what if’ would keep her from genuinely feeling completely content and fulfilled. Her mom knew this, and as a final gesture, basically tells Al to follow her heart this time (who was with Noah).
So I always took the mom part as her sort of regretting putting her daughter in a similar situation she was in where she had to make a decision like that where she may one day wonder what could have been. She just wanted to show her both sides and have her make the right decision for her since the mom didn't necessarily make the right decision when she was young. Also --- so sad but in the book only Allie dies at the end.
This is a tough one for me. Since I originally watched this 20 years ago, my mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and I had to move her to a memory care facility. There is nothing easy about it. Like this storyline though, there are special moments here and there.
In the world of remakes we live in this is one I would love to see modernized with a Poly twist where instead of choosing one guy or the other she says screw it I’ll marry you both 😂🥰
Hey guys, 1st time watcher here. Just getting into it but I think if you're looking for ways to grow the channel I'd suggest doing something with the audio of the movie - it sounds echoey and it's hard to follow. Good luck on the journey!
i love watching this movie but it makes me sad because having to personally watch my mom who has early onset Alzheimers slowly fade away is heartbreaking.
Loved the reaction. Didn't care for how the audio was chopped. I know it has to be done for copyright reasons but felt it was overdone a bit. Otherwise great reaction!
I really enjoy this story, but for me I always wondered what it’d be like if she did choose Lon. It’d be following in her mom’s footsteps regarding her choice for love. I also thought it’d be even more of a twist if Lon was Duke, and after Noah died at some point he left her a book of their love. After Ally’s dimentia kicked in, Lon promised to read it to her so she could remember not only the love from Noah, but who Lon is to her and how they came to be.
This movie reminds me of my God mother's grandparents except her grandma would be the guy and her grandpa was the girl and the movie beaches reminds me of my God mother and my cousin their friendship also around this time Ryan gosling was dating Rachel McAdams they broke up a year later and married there spouses the lucky one, a walk to remember, the best of me, and the choice are really good movies you should check out

With Lon
, yes she would have felt safe and secure. Heck she probably would have been happy. But that “what if’ would keep her from genuinely feeling completely content and fulfilled. Her mom knew this, and as a final gesture, basically tells Al to follow her heart this time (who was with Noah).
In the deleted scene he leaves the house to the kids, so this isn't the house he built
So I always took the mom part as her sort of regretting putting her daughter in a similar situation she was in where she had to make a decision like that where she may one day wonder what could have been. She just wanted to show her both sides and have her make the right decision for her since the mom didn't necessarily make the right decision when she was young. Also --- so sad but in the book only Allie dies at the end.
zach at 11:30 and 39:25 insane for that 😭😭😭😭
Guys watching chick flicks & admitting to crying... you guys are awesome ❤
It's a shame that The Wedding (the sequel to this) was never made into a movie.
you guys are so strong..i always cry on the last part!!!!!!!!!! ;(
Love y’all so much for reacting to this 💖
This is a tough one for me. Since I originally watched this 20 years ago, my mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and I had to move her to a memory care facility. There is nothing easy about it. Like this storyline though, there are special moments here and there.
Yes the old folks home at the end is the house noah built it was turned into the old folks home so they were in their forever house
Have y’all seen 50 first dates???
I seen another comment recommending A Walk to Remember, and a second that. Underrated movie.
In the world of remakes we live in this is one I would love to see modernized with a Poly twist where instead of choosing one guy or the other she says screw it I’ll marry you both 😂🥰
Rachel McAdams also plays in Time Traveler's Wife, About Time, The Vow (sad movie), Red Eye...if you haven't watched those movies, yet..
Try "The Vow", also starring Rachel McAdams with Channing Tatum, it's also heartbreaking and also based on a true story 🤭
Hey guys, 1st time watcher here. Just getting into it but I think if you're looking for ways to grow the channel I'd suggest doing something with the audio of the movie - it sounds echoey and it's hard to follow. Good luck on the journey!
The guy on the right looked very familiar... then I realized, the way his mouth moves or smile at a certain angle reminds me of Jeremy Sumpter~ xD
You guys should react to bridgerton lol I’d love to see the reactions 😹
i love watching this movie but it makes me sad because having to personally watch my mom who has early onset Alzheimers slowly fade away is heartbreaking.
“game night” is a really funny comedy that rachel mcaddams stars in! y’all would probably love it
Loved the reaction. Didn't care for how the audio was chopped. I know it has to be done for copyright reasons but felt it was overdone a bit. Otherwise great reaction!
Wayyy overdone.
Rob, if you’re a bird, im a bird ❤
Holy s** Barefoot Moscato is the best!! I like your new set up, you guys look so funny all lined up like this. 😂 Cool beans.
Yeah it is so good :)
This movie reminds me of my God mother's grandparents except her grandma would be the guy and her grandpa was the girl and the movie beaches reminds me of my God mother and my cousin their friendship also around this time Ryan gosling was dating Rachel McAdams they broke up a year later and married there spouses the lucky one, a walk to remember, the best of me, and the choice are really good movies you should check out
11:34 “he’s so hot” 😂
"The Longest ride" reminds me of "the note book"...good movie as well
I swear I'm your 4th because I just be talking to my screen, adding commentary like yall can hear me lol. And I cracked my wine just a minute before you brought out wine lol.
