Who the hell voted this guy down? I love this channel. I just discovered it this morning and it's blown my mind at least 4 times so far with new discoveries. This man is a walking encyclopedia of rock history, especially as relates to psychedelia, and this is currently my favorite channel on youtube.
Great list let's not forget = Eloy - Tangerine Dream - Hawkwind - Neu- Erik Wollo - Walter Christian Roth - Velvet Universe - You - Michael Bundt - Automate - Glory - Emerald Web - Conrad Schnitzler - Grobschnitt - Guru Guru - Eroc - Tony Carey - Planet-P-Project, and the new electronic artists. U have great music tastes. I have a giant collection 4 sale or trade and have some doubles all mint.
YES... Captain Beyond is indeed absolutely essential..! One of my absolute favorite pieces in my collection. The opening to Dancing Madly Backwards is just HUGE! One of the best riffs ever! Brilliant record. Once again great video!
Great taste on prog & eclectic rock. Some stuff I never heard before and now I definitely will. Amazing and colossal collection of vinyls too! Too bad it was an expensive hobby in my country and I could only get the best music through imports. I have a love/hate relationship with vinyl (the scratching sounds and when they break) but the joy of holding them, smelling them and looking at the art and design and marvel at the care many artists put to them. Btw, the band Mel Collins felt the happier was Camel, I'm pretty sure and he plays in Nude as well, if I'm not mistaken.
I really enjoy watching your videos. I learn so much about how a human being in bed. And your music is so wonderful. And it's very fascinating to know that there's an open minded person out there.
What can I say. Some things I know well, others I have heard of, still more I never knew and will have to check out. You have a phenomenal taste in music. Truly a find to have stumbled on your youtubisms. More! More! More! Peace, Eric
@bluenazz What fortune to have seen Flower Travellin Band in their heyday. How awesome indeed. Yes, this connecting with you and other music fans is so refreshing.
Going back and watching your old vids. I bought Captain Beyond on this recommendation. I can't imagine not being exposed to this music. Right up there with Deep Purple's "Burn" in my book.
@antmichb I love the album. If Moonmadness is your favorite you'll be less impressed by this one (I would imagine) as it is less rocking, much more pastoral. The Cluster & Eno is great stuff. Thanks for commenting.
@bigstar1000 Thank you for commenting. This music is so excellent. I do own the other Atoll title but only digitally. I have several more French bands to get to, Pulsar being one of my other favorites.
@MrAlphaSurf I love Grobschnitt and presently only have them on cd. Long ago I owned Jumbo but due to craziness sold it. I just put on Rockpommel's Land to refresh my ears. I hope to do a whole video on Gentle Giant. Thanks for commenting.
Another great video Dereck! When I saw you pull out the Captain Beyond LP, I said "YES!!!" Totally brilliant album!! I saw the Flower Traveling Band in concert in Toronto back in 1971 when they opened for Emerson, Lake, and Palmer. I picked up their Canadian version of that first LP soon afterward. It has a different jacket.
@bigstar1000 I have watched some of your videos and have to say your selection is fantastic. We do have similar tastes. Thanks for commenting and posting your collection.
Very cool things Dereck, I have seen/met Daevid & Gilli a few times in NYC 1991-1992 era and he wrote something akin on my albums as you have. Nice guy .
Love Battles! Really excited for their new album Gloss Drop in June. I didn't know about the Helmet connection, despite being a fan of that band as well. Of course Soft Machine, Amon Duul II, Cluster, Peter Gabriel, Captain Beyond, Gong, and Flower Travellin' Band are all awesome. I plan to check out the ones you mentioned that I'm not familiar with. Thanks!
Hmm I'll have to pick up Monster Movie by Can. I started off with Tago Mago and really liked it. I have that on CD as well as Ege Bamyassi and Future Days.
Allot of the titles iv never heard about so thanx for the tips! Iv looked up Captain Beyond on the swedish version of ebay and it sells for around 40euro. See if i can find it sheaper somewere else.
I love the fact that you are such an open-minded person and more importantly that you are so human-friendly. I really like your faves. For me, the top bands would be Camel, Egg, Soft Machine, Tomorrow, Gentle Giant, Hawkwind, Floyd, but also lesser known acts like Jonesy, T2, Argent or Velvet Fogg. Really great picks from you, very much my style. I would be delighted to recommend our Polish national Prog/Jazz-Rock treasue SBB, if you haven't heard of them. I am sure you would love them! Have a listen to a song "W kołysce twoich dłoni". Their later work is leaning more towards fusion or jazz rock. For that you might check out their 1979 concert in Warsaw, very popular on RUclips. Anyway, keep up great work! You are a super chill person and you've got an oustanding taste!
Ever see that non-Roger Dean cover of Octopus with the cut-out jar? I was of course on a Roger Dean quest when I found the other one, but I suppose that's kinda how these things go. I maybe shouldn't watch you until I learn more obscure stuff. The 1996 16-year-old me would have gone into some kind of catatonic bliss-shock. You are a complete gem of a dude.
The band Three Friends plays the music of Gentle Giant. They are RIGHT ON! Features Gary Green, the guitarist from the original GG band. They are playing at various prog fests throughout the world.
Another great video my friend! You are turning out videos faster than Michael Jackson in 1982 lol! It's great, I love it! I am making quite the list of lps/bands to check out based off your last few videos. I was curious, could you do a video, or just share in a response, some of the more mainstream things you like. I mean Genisis is there, but I was just curious what your taste was like in that area of music. Take care!
Personally i would move the reel to reel off of the speaker in the background .You wouldn't want to go back and play the tape and there's nothing on it .lol
Good video i like your Genesis & Peter Gabriel album how many records do you have in your collections and how how long have you been doing this and you do a great job in your videos and keep up the good work.
Are there any albums you don't have ? lol Seriously , amazing collection , and I have many of the albums you have showcased . Your taste in music is sublime .
Derek wish I had a half decent place to buy music around here I'm pretty much at the mercy of Wal-Mart and it's ilk but I did pick up Stephen Tyler rolling stones Prince. Michael Jackson and pink as far as newer releases on CD and I got books on Prince bowie Keith richards and Tony iommi not a bad haul
From Genesis To Revelation -- was released in 1969. probably had only 1 edition as it did not sell. relatively unknown and often ignored by genesis fans. I like a few songs on that album; but the next album "The Knife" is so much better and gives an inkling of Genesis unique music style. I would not be surprised if I were the only person commenting on this album in your thread.
there's a great live version of gong doing "master builder" here on yt. might be from the same era as when you acquired your autographs. maybe a bit later.
Wow, Camel and Captan Beyond, some of my favorites, Genesis of course. Did you ever come across Brand X? Morrocan Roll, etc? I'm sorry to comment on such a an old posting, but "Captain Beyond" I never expected anyone to remember them.
Whatever the language, the music on that record is universally good. Bought it for the first time about two weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Sounded like a mixture between PFM and ELP.

So many dudes talking vinyl on RUclips but I really rate Dereck. Plus his musical taste is diverse but classy.

Amazing video. Thank you. I've added the ones I never heard of to my discogs want list and will search them out thank you Dereck

I just checked out Gentle giant for the first time. Very cool stuff! Outside, challenging and experimental. Thanks for turning me on to them.
I'm a big fan of Genesis as well. I don't have their debut album though. I showed Third in one of my videos. Great stuff!
@turntapzap Very cool and I'm so glad you dig them.
Another great video Dereck! When I saw you pull out the Captain Beyond LP, I said "YES!!!" Totally brilliant album!! I'm Curious to hear what your favorite track off that Mirrored album is?
@mrhoffame Coming up.
Hi Derek. Have you done a music from japan episode?
A friend had burned me a copy of Battles, but I wasn't aware Anthony Braxton's son was involved.
Derek, I'm addicted to your page now. Where do you find your records?
ThxD 🔵
• Very Cool mFriend
Have you heard of a band called If?
Battles...name of record?
Latte e Miele means Milk and Honey.
Isn't "Latte E Miel", milk and honey in italian?
Yes indeed, excuse if I mis-translated
Whatever the language, the music on that record is universally good. Bought it for the first time about two weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Sounded like a mixture between PFM and ELP.
Sun Ra?
DeDe Lind ?
I have a burned CD of it.
nectar try them and pfm too
happy the man
if you like gentle giant you'll love slicks beard
socks beard like gentle giant
spocks beard
I have both of those bands in my collection.
jet lag off
Have you heard of a band called If?
Yes indeed, I have their first three albums.
I recommend you listen to "Tea Break Over Back On Your 'Eads." Great acoustic guitar work on "Don Quixote's Masquerade" in particular.
I'll try again. I thought the band was less interesting on this album.
