Dude, you're awesome. You have my tastes with WAY more resources! Nice stack and thanks for the awesome sound and commentary. Hafler Trio's F**k is one of the most terrifying album-songs I'd ever heard the first time I put it on, far scarier than any Skinny Puppy.
My dude! Definitely my wheelhouse right here. I know you've said recently this isn't a place you visit much anymore, but like you've said before....I think in a Scott Walker video...this is the sound of reality. The human experience is an interesting trip and dark ambient I feel encapsulates that trip very well. :😀
Wow you have awesome and diverse musical tastes that align with mine from Jazz to Metal and Punk Rock now this more avant-garde stuff. And what a collection, amazing
By the way, talking about experience & event as recording, my understanding was much of the early psychic tv stuff was made that way (as a teen I had an album which was pretty much 45 minutes of a typewriter and dogs barking)....
I've subscribed to your channel. You have a true passion for some very good music, and a deep knowledge to go with it. I put some 1 hour ambient/drone etc. mixes up on RUclips a while back. Now I feel inspired to get another one together.
Bless you too Derek. You mentioned Maurizio Bianchi in passing here. I have recently been diving into his work with a passion and you know what happens when that happens - you want to share, learn, hear other people’s perceptions. If you’d be willing to set aside a little time to discuss his work I would be fascinated to know your thoughts. I’m not sure where he’s coming from conceptually or the tools he uses to create the sounds he does. I am eager to learn. Just for example, there’s his heavy focus on the Holocaust and why not. I know many people who believe that God perished in the Holocaust. We, as human beings, have both proven our unfitness to invoke the name and killed the Deity himself. As an atheist I don’t take that literally but recognize that some very fundamental moral and ethical foundations lie at the root. What does Maurizio think ? What do you think ? I just listened to a piece of his called I.B.M. It brought to mind the Citizens United case where the Supreme Court declared individual and corporate speech one and the same. If that is so, then I.B.M is the sound of corporate speech. It’s an ugly, powerful piece which just screams of greed and inhumanity. It’s one of the coldest pieces I have ever heard. So, I hope you’ll look upon my request with favor. I want a bit of additional perspective on this utterly enthralling yet enigmatic composer. Just a side note - if you haven’t heard Sleeper by Daniel Menche, I hope you’ll find some time to give it a quick overview. Obviously I may be mistaken but I really, really think you’ll dig it. And it’d be gratifying for me to hip you to something for once. Peace, love and happiness, brother.
Just discovered your videos Dereck. Beautiful. I'm with you on your views and appreciation of sounds and out there musick. I look forward to watching more of you. Thanks.
@GalaxyRover1020 And I have those artists on vinyl as well. Thanks and I will show them soon. I love Mother Mallard!! Now that brings to mind Negativeland...
Very interesting stuff. I gotta check some of that stuff out. I would love to see more of your vinyl from this genre. I totally agree with u about "leaving this planet through the audio orifices," it certainly makes life better. You the man.
I am going to look into the Frank Fromy LP after that introduction and high praise from you~Also interesting the was sound work that you were talking about on the Dome LP. The closest I think I ever came to experimenting with this type of music was Brian Eno. Tough with all the other stuff that I am looking for. But I always will find a way to break the ice when it comes to a totally new type of music~Thanks Dereck, Rob/Boston
The Necks. Some wild stuff that crosses over into that droney noisey field. Discovered them through the Underworld DRIFT series. Also, I seem to remember that AMM shared the bill with Pink Floyd in the early days. Maybe even at the UFO
Hehe here I thought I was quite knowledgeable about drone and dark ambient but apart from those from Asmus Tietchens i hardly recognize any records you've shown. Then again, I'm more into more modern sound artists like Troum,Yellow Swans and their ilk. But as always, you showing some noisy and/or dark ambienttreasures sure was a treat. Any chance you'll do a follow-up ?
@maanvaarder1 There will be much more, I'm really just getting started. I'm always wanting to learn more. I have some Yellow Swans but not Troum. I'll be checking that out.
Nice David Tudor, just got that organ from him. Wicked shit! This is one genre I want to get into more. Derek Bailey is the man! He did an album with Jamaaladeen Tacuma called Mirakle. Killer album. I want that Improvisation Company! I'm intrigued.... masstishaddhu huh? I get sooo many ideas and new shit I never heard of from you. Wish I could return the favor somehow. I said it before, I'll say it again, Dereck, you are the man!
You're cool as hell. I would write down a group you would recommend go to Amazon and see if they have it, then come back this video and go to amazon again... repeat till the end of the video.;) Wicked!
Hey Derek, I think I've learned more about music from you and a musician friend of mine than anywhere else. It helped me explore avenues I didn't know existed. I was wondering if you could talk about Frippotronics at some point? Brian Eno is one of the pioneers of this form of music, along with of course Robert Fripp.
Yes, yes and yes! ha. This was an awesome video and you have vinyl from some artist i wish i had. Especially;y those dome records. If you haven't i suggest checking out Selaxon Lutberg, if you haven't already heard his stiff that is.
Great recs. I've not heard of most of them with the exception of the Fromy. There's one album, again like most of this stuff, fairly obscure that i like--The Bridge by Thomas Leer & Robert Rental. You can probably find it on YT.
It's these videos that are the bomb! You have such an amazing collection and a great knowledge of outsider music! I agree with your words on Wire, have their first 2 releases. Also Colin Newman's solo albums are a musthave (but not noisy)! I somehow was expecting some Merzbow, but that mght be shown in any future updates?
Hi! love your channel, thank you! (really mean it) would it be possible to publish a written list of the albums you talked about here? (especially the last one, can't read those from the label). again - thank you!
Hey derreck... love the videos.. have u listened 2 the mount fuji doomjazz corporation... or bohren and der club of gore? Im thinking it is right up your alley.. disregard if u have heard em... i showed up late 2 em, but least i got there. Excellant stuff
I've since forgotten how to spell "Masstishaddhu." I love them. Have you made an index anywhere of your LPs? It would be fascinating to see what you've got! Mine are unfortunately still in CA. One day....
Have you ever heard of Hammock? You'd like them a lot, very ambient and full of soundscapes. I have a feeling I'm going to be discovering a lot of good old stuff on your youtube show...and I was trying to save money :/ oh well, good music is worth it!
Hi Dereck, If not heard of them already, check out Skinny Puppy's Last Rights and Cleanse Fold & Manipulate albums two masterpieces (if the production was better) :)
@semitelfeletem I gave up long ago, doing too many things to invest the time. i have a lot of them in pictures on my flickr site flickr.com/photos/dereckvon/collections/

Your taste is excellent.
For those who don't know Dome or Wire, this should be your next rabbit hole.
Wow you have awesome and diverse musical tastes that align with mine from Jazz to Metal and Punk Rock now this more avant-garde stuff. And what a collection, amazing
this is great to hear, plenty of new things to check out from you.
By the way, talking about experience & event as recording, my understanding was much of the early psychic tv stuff was made that way (as a teen I had an album which was pretty much 45 minutes of a typewriter and dogs barking)....
If I ever press a vinyl record I'll have to shoot you a copy
I've subscribed to your channel. You have a true passion for some very good music, and a deep knowledge to go with it.
I put some 1 hour ambient/drone etc. mixes up on RUclips a while back. Now I feel inspired to get another one together.
Thanks Dereck, I don't comment much but I am always watching, learning about things to keep an eye out for in my journeys. Have a great weekend!

Great Great Video, Dereck.
Just discovered your videos Dereck. Beautiful. I'm with you on your views and appreciation of sounds and out there musick. I look forward to watching more of you. Thanks.
Love these genre's. Thanks for sharing
One of the best vinyl recommendation videos I've seen. Good job!
Speaking of drone how do you feel about Natural Snow Buildings ? I find them very immersive as well as eerie like Comus and Mellow Candle.
My favorite video of yours...more noise please.
Caroline K: genius record
@GalaxyRover1020 And I have those artists on vinyl as well. Thanks and I will show them soon. I love Mother Mallard!! Now that brings to mind Negativeland...
stumped upon this by chance - borderline fascinating to hear you talk about this. i have a lot of googling to do.
this video inspired me to make noise again. Thank you Derek!
@dereckvon hope you can do another one of these in 2022!
Very interesting stuff. I gotta check some of that stuff out. I would love to see more of your vinyl from this genre. I totally agree with u about "leaving this planet through the audio orifices," it certainly makes life better. You the man.
@stephan73 Oh yes, I have Merzbow. More to come! The Colin Newman solos are top drawer!
Awesome. Thank you
wow. i just stumbled upon this video. i had a vague memory of that caroline k record and you brought it all back to me. thank's! :)
I wouldn't argue with that.
My forte is finding records cheaply that others don't know about.
Nice channel.
Love Borbeto…..Great commentary Dereck, as usual. MEV/AMM as well.
fav. channel ever "stumbled Upon" was looking for Seven Hours' Sleep/ Hafler Trio -- keep it up, Dereck!
@kapujanincs You can't beat that! Pretty awesome!
top notch stuff! I see a new favourite channel!
ACE! Great Job
@dereckvon Congratulations! You just became my Noise/Drone, Dark Ambient guru. But hey have you heard of Nadja they’re drone metal ambient.
@scotricksen I'm getting educated right now. Great stuff indeed! Thank you!
@Paneeks1960 I've always been drawn to exploration. Living in the midwest has made it almost necessary for survival.
@seqouiaflame Believe me, the favor is already returned. I'm real glad to have you as a friend!
Can't forget early electronic pioneers: Malcolm Cecil (Tonto's Expanding Head Band) & David Borden (Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Company).They certainly helped shape the ambient landscape. Cool , Jamie Muir :D

I have been playing the Caroline K album off BandCamp off the strength of this, thanks.

@maanvaarder1 There will be much more, I'm really just getting started. I'm always wanting to learn more. I have some Yellow Swans but not Troum. I'll be checking that out.
great video! thanks for reminding me of DOME.
Don Bolles played The Sounds of the Junkyard live on Facebook on 4-18-20.
@HandsupLX It's a great one.

Thanx for sharing you knowledge about experimental music...
Peace and Noise from TRANSVESTITEstallion the experimental band
Interesting stuff. Have you heard of a band called Zs? Kind of noisy, free jazz, avant garde stuff. Their album New Slaves is fantastic
Yes, yes and yes! ha. This was an awesome video and you have vinyl from some artist i wish i had. Especially;y those dome records. If you haven't i suggest checking out Selaxon Lutberg, if you haven't already heard his stiff that is.

@scotricksen 'Zs' are amazing!
Tipp from germany: "ie" is always pronounced like an english "e" as in "eel"
Love your videos! Keep em coming!

@MrFartboy79 I love this stuff.
@dereckvon - Somehow I suspected you would have the aforementioned. Interesting stuff.
After watching this, I really want to know what your opinion is on Lustmord and the likes, the more traditional dark ambient.
I do't listen like I used to but there is some very compelling work done by Lustmord and that ilk.
Total Accord !
@bigstar1000 Understood now. Thanks Fred.
Have you the Terry Riley 'Keyboard Study' on BYG ? Unbleeevable.
hey! i just bought the Autechre & Hafler Trio double set for a dollar at a flea market!
Insane
@Yaksniffer Go for it!
I have the Tietchens... sorry to gush! Just a little shocking to see it anywhere other than in my collection.
Hey derreck... love the videos.. have u listened 2 the mount fuji doomjazz corporation... or bohren and der club of gore? Im thinking it is right up your alley.. disregard if u have heard em... i showed up late 2 em, but least i got there. Excellant stuff
Troy Carlton I know those bands just don't have any vinyl.
@semitelfeletem I certainly understand your reaction.
I've since forgotten how to spell "Masstishaddhu." I love them. Have you made an index anywhere of your LPs? It would be fascinating to see what you've got! Mine are unfortunately still in CA. One day....
@THATGUYKEEGS Titled 'Or So It Seems'.
@ApotheosiZ I have heard of Nadja and probably have some stuff downloaded.
Lustmord (Hobart and Place whare the dark stars hang) Alan Lamb

Have you ever heard of Hammock? You'd like them a lot, very ambient and full of soundscapes. I have a feeling I'm going to be discovering a lot of good old stuff on your youtube show...and I was trying to save money :/ oh well, good music is worth it!
I have Hammock on cd.
@dereckvon Holy Mackerel! :D
@bigstar1000 Whoa, now what does that mean?
Hi Dereck,
If not heard of them already, check out Skinny Puppy's Last Rights and Cleanse Fold & Manipulate albums two masterpieces (if the production was better) :)
+Mike Hydropneumatic I have Skinny Puppy.
what i prefer
Hi dereck, do you have any online sources that could recommend for buying classical ambient, drone and noise vinyl? Thank you
+jack ashley Not a specific place. I just read and try stuff out.
CTI - Core, A Conspiracy International Project

@series360 I don't. Honestly, I prefer comments.
Hi

Stylisticly, I'd say it's a precursor of surrealism.
Hey young fellow , Dada is no art movement
