Michael P has the easiest way. The back grate is the opposite side from the switch. Had it unplugged and still got zapped twice, once with the switch off. The bulbs did not want to come out. I had to push the sockets apart and play with it. Also, the new ones were hard to get back in.

The fast way to do this is to (takes less than 5 minutes, but be careful not to zap yourself): 1) take the two screws off of the top of the back grate; 2) Slide the back grate down to free it from the body on top; 3) Swivel the grate down; 4) Remove the bulbs; 5) Put new bulbs in; 6) Test the bulbs (I had to rotate one to get it to work); 7) swing the grate back up; 8) Slide it upward back into the body; 9) Replace the screws at the top.

Yo bro the the side panels are spring loaded all you have to do is push the panel down and then you can change the bulbs there's no need to take off the top or bottom just FYI for next time

Michael P is right in his comment about the easy way to change these bulbs by removing the back cover only without disasembling the unit. Also if you turn off or unplug the unit and then slide a plastic handled screw driver in between the inner metal bars that do the zapping a large spark will occur that drains the shock capacitor and it won't shock you afterward. Since the bulbs need to be changed every 6 to 8 months I just left the back off of my unit so I can change the bulbs as many times as I want without taking off anything. The shocking grid is on the other side of the unit and you'd have to go to some trouble to reach through to the far side to shock yourself even when the back cover is left off. One final note, someone needs to make LED bulbs for this unit that would outlast the unit ...

I think the easier way is to take the screen from one of the sides and just take the bulb out

I struggled for an hour with this and by the time I put it back together it didn't even work. This is way too much for what this is worth . These guys dont want to make it easy so youll just buy another unit.

Yeah I feel your pain. Sparked myself by touching the grid - just cuz light does not come on, doesn't mean the grid is not charged even when you pull plug lol. The trick is to rotate the light bulb a few times after putting bulb in. You may have to rotate another couple of times after that until it sets in real good. Always discarge the grid after unplugging.
Also in removing the light bulb, rather than looking at the top groove which is hard to see, pull the light bulb as much as possible towards its other end, so it opens up a little space at the end as seen from the side. You can just see the gold prongs, and will know how much to rotate so the prongs align with the top groove. It took me about an hour. Also you don't have to remove any screws to get at the light bulbs - just force the back metal screen out - it will bend a little but fit back in later fine.

@@lawrencethomas7975 My ex-husband bought me two of these things and I can't get the bulbs out. His mother gave our son a ten-dollar Home-depot gift card and I bought a bug zapper from Home Depot and that thing still works (after 5 years) but too bad it is in my storage about two hours away. It's nothing but consumer fraud. I can't wait until I see how these surveillance cameras work. They come from a land where people apparently have much smaller hands.

@@charliewatts6895 I had no problems with that part as the bug zappers had been unplugged for 6 months and I also bought the electrician's insulated screwdrivers. But nevertheless ain't nobody got time for that (trying to get those bulbs out).

I suspect the “battery” is actually a “capacitor” but I could be wrong.

You don’t have to take the whole thing apart to change the bulbs. Unscrew one of the grills (there’s one that isn’t obstructed), twist and remove the old bulbs. Insert new bulbs and turn them to lock in place, then replace the grill. It’s straightforward and takes less than 5 mins. You should delete this video; it’s making people trash a perfectly good zapper, making more environmental waste.
