    This Zapper works well. But when you go to change its UV tubes, remember: the interior grids retain a powerful charge for up to two hours after you turn off or unplug the Zapper. I didn't know that and got quite a shock in the process! As the exterior grids are held in rather lightly, if one of them is in contact with an interior grid, the same thing can happen. So be careful, always turn it off and then wait a couple hours to mess with it. Lastly, the power cord's short. You'll probably need an extension cord to reach the nearest outlet.

They work so well at killing and zapping...leave debris under them. The Flowtron literally cooked a big bug, a small flash of light, smoke, sizzle, a crack. I have one of these in my kitchen and it is just wonderful. The insects just can't help flying to those delicious blue lights and when they do - they're dead. Sometimes, it make such a noise when a bug meets his/her Maker that I can hear upstairs (one floor above). Our cook is highly impressed; it zaps mosquitoes and flies. Well done!

      Never use these in the food preparation area of the kitchen, because these can blow the insects to pieces and they can be scattered all over the food. If you must use it in the kitchen, locate it somewhere where food is not kept.

    I just found out that it retains zapping power minutes after it's turned off and unplugged. ...so, not a good idea to scrape bugs off with a screwdriver after unplugging it. I'm not saying I did that but just saying it's a bad idea lmao!

    • @grahamnumber7123
      @grahamnumber7123 8 лет назад +3

      That made me laugh thumbs up form me..it could be me (the screwdriver). Even if i understand capacitace it's one of those moments you don't forget so easily :-) but think DOAH I should have known that would happen :-)I'm looking for a wasp and fly killer but i'm not sure all insects are drawn to UV light..researching now.. Wasps genuinly hate me (even if i try to stay calm and let them fck off in their own time, it doesn't work) - the feelings are mutual. ...and flies! also ruin an outdoor BBQ (as BBQ's normally are but you get the idea - eating outside with the kids then flies landing on plates, swarming around the area - hardly relaxing.I hate them both (bees no problem, even moths aren't a big pest)Beer and BBQ sauce in a cup was great way to trap and drown 30+ wasps..they can survive underwater for about 1 minute ish (just some observasions made ;-)what is your exp of this zapper? MK3 version in my dreams could possibly get cats (Sorry if you have a cat- i did as a kid but the cats in my street sh!t n piss everywhere it's mental)

    • @BaadBadBoy
      @BaadBadBoy 8 лет назад +1

      I've had it about 3-months or so and it works fairly well. Interesting "quirk" about it is that it's loud -- almost firecracker loud but not quite. Doesn't matter how small or large the insect is, it'll get zapped with the same level of loud PAP!!! Yes, even the small bugs get the big bang. I use a vacuum cleaner to clean it off in the mornings because I noticed that if I leave moths or whatever on it, then it decreases the zapping power. Don't have any bees or wasps that get into the house so I don't know if it will attract them but I'm confident it would kill them. It's a cool little device; if I see a fly or something that got in through the door, then I just bring the zapper into the room and turn it on. It'll zap them usually within 1-to-3 minutes. Could it be better? Yeah -- it could be quieter when zapping tiny bugs, but it's not a big deal. It's a cool bug zapper.

    Hi.
    If you want to trap mosquitoes. this device is not at all perfect. Mosquitoes are going for body smell and infrared light. It could be very interesting if you could exchange the UV lamps with infrared light and then add smell like shown in other videos here at youtube. You will need smell of carbon dioxide, maybe made by a mix of water, sugar and yeast. Then attraction mostly of mosquitoes and not other non problematic insects will be found.
    Best regards JANK

    Simple mod to make more effective:
    It is not directly effective for gnats. They are too small to touch both electrodes.
    However, the biting gnats I have are very attracted to the light. Soooo.....
    The following 2 mods are effective:
    I put packing tape (sticky side up) on the bottom tray. They are attracted to the light and get stuck.
    Also, place a small dish of organic (living) vinegar and a few drops of unscented dish soap next to the unit.
    They swarm to the light and stop off for a short lived refreshment. Works great!
    You must use active living vinegar. The trick is this produces CO2, (basic store bought is less effective) .
    Braggs Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar works well.

    I'll get one of these for the garage. When I have the overhead door open to drive in or out of the garage, a lot of times I shut the overhead door, and even though it was only open for a minute or two, there are now a couple of flies in my garage. Sometimes, it's hard to swat them or to open the door to get them out (because more can fly in). With one of these I should be able to leave the door shut, turn on the zapper, shut off the light and go in the house, leaving the zapper to do its job.

    The Aspectek doesn't have any transformer, everything is solid state (Caps hold the charge until a bug gets to close)
    Aspectek also is solid state power / ballast for the florescent lights.
    The Flowtron brand uses a transformer for it's Lights and it's Bug Grid.
    I have one of the big Flowtrons and yes it's a good zapper, but in addition to the tubes needing replaced there are 2 starter ballasts that may need replacing. This requires disassembly and you might need a service manual, I'm game.
    The Flowtron finally bit the dust when it's transformer overheated The lights work, but it just stopped zapping. The cost of replacing it's internal transformer was as much as getting a new one so I bought the Aspectek instead.

  • @chuckbrown617
    @chuckbrown617 3 года назад

    My Aspectek unit self-destructed! Upon turning it on, one capacitor exploded (literally) on the ballast board for the lamps. It also took out one rectifier diode and a PCB mounted glass fuse with an unknown current rating. The other 3 caps need to be changed as well (bloated). The bulbs aren't carried locally, don't last long and aren't cheap.

    • @JohnBGibson
      @JohnBGibson 5 лет назад +5

      It catches them only when they randomly get bored and fly into it. I had it set up for 6 months in a heavily infested area, it killed 2 or 3 during that time. If a mosquito finds any other thing to focus on, such as you are around breathing near this thing, the mosquito won't go anywhere near the zapper. The light is not really that interesting to the mosquitoes I have seen, a better approach is one that uses a gas attractant. If you could somehow set this up in front of a machine that did that, I am sure it would be very effective. I think this would work better if you just disable the lights and put a slow fan in front if it.

    My led electric bug zapper acts like a disco ball. The flies love the ambience it provides!
    I got one fly locked into the bathroom with the LED Blue/purple lighted bug zapper on. I even have a glue strip hanging in there, too, and I went in there with my electronic bug racket swatter. Im swirling and twirling and dancing around, not with a happy smile, but an angry look plastered on my face. The jolts from the bug racket when I hit the fly (several times) just act like some good youth of fountain electricity, the same kind that brings frankenstein to life. There is no dead fly.
    This John Travolta fly is reliving the 1970's. I swear i hear the song "More than a Woman" playing as the Travolta fly mocks me for not being able to catch him. The LED provides the perfect ambience lighting for the scene.

    I just feel like I should mention. The whole point of having the bug zapper outdoors is that it draws insects to it. So having one in doors draws them inside. Unless they miraculously fixed that issue in which case how does it draw in the bugs to zap them?

    I bought this for a gnat problem we have because we eat a lot of produce and it sucks for gnats. 'they are attracted to the lights, but apparently they are too small to get zapped. It was a waste of money for me.

      mine worked for gnats.

    • @StratTickler

    • @FusionDeveloper
      @FusionDeveloper 5 лет назад

      Unfortunately, the gaps in the grid of this zapper are fairly wide and i have watched many baby gnats fly through the grid unharmed. I think I've even seen them walking on a metal zapping bar unharmed. I will assume fleas would also be able to avoid being zapped due to their size. You may get lucky and zap a few, but I feel like a tighter grid pattern would be far more useful for fleas. Although I love this zapper, I want to find one with a tighter zapping bar spacing to get baby gnats. However, it wouldn't hurt to have more than 1... or more than 2 styles of zappers in your home.
