Shooting with a RARE $26,000 lens!

- The Sigma 200-500mm f/2.8 is the first ultra telephoto zoom lens to provide an aperture of f/2.8 at the 500mm focal length. It also comes packaged with a 2x teleconverter that transforms it in to a 400-1000mm f/5.6.
I should note that this also worth an eyewatering £15,000, so when Sigma said we were allowed to shoot with it for a day, we did what anyone else would do when - we took it to a shady underpass at the dodgy end of town and took some portraits...

#Sigma #Bazooka # LensReview - Хобби
*CORRECTION: Slight mistake on my part! Sony's Super 35mm mode provides a 1.5x crop factor (not 1.6x as I state in the video) so it actually gives an equivalent focal length of 1500mm, NOT 1600mm. Thanks to the guys who pointed this out to me in the comments 👍
Was this comment supposed to be pinned? 'Cos it ain't. And the title still reads 1600mm. (Enjoyed the comedy though :)
Thanks for the nudge - all fixed now 👍
Check this DIY lens system: ruclips.net/video/9cT0jXI7l4E/видео.html
will this lens work with canon T2i?
Well one can just crop inside the full frame shot... it's even better you get more flexibility for the framing.
The super 35 mode is only useful for getting smaller files.
Those 500mm/2.8 shots were SUPERB!
Thanks! I was blown away by it to be honest - if only it was a more manageable size 😂
Best lens ever!!! although I experienced a little problem as everytime I'll try doing street photography with this lens I experienced being constantly apprehended by local authorities. I heard one guy left his sigma 200-500mm on his backyard facing the sun and accidentally burned a hole through china that caused him to have boarder guards on his backyard. This lens surely has a problem of cop spawn and I'm hoping Sigma will fix this via firmware update.
you made my day haha!
Still you all sound as if this lens is inpractical and stupid, but it easily has its special advantages... I would love such a lens, probably focus/focal lenght controlled via PC instead of my 750mm newton telescope (or 1500mm with 2x barlow and Full Frame or 2400mm on APS-C+2x). I bet this lens, especially since its a APO is great for astrophotography.
hahaha!
Loved this one Tom. I love that you leaned on the humor and sillyness of this whole thing.
Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting as always 🤜🤛
Hahaha!!😂😂 The intro with you holding the lens against that wall art is freaking priceless. Love that intro man!!!
Glad you appreciated it 😜
This video is amazing! I was both thoroughly entertained and well informed. Kudos for the great sense of humor!
Thanks bud, appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Your "subtle" sense of humor has earned you a new follower. Keep it up!
Thanks, welcome aboard! Surprised you even noticed the humour in this one 😜
I wasn’t going to subscribe until 0:38 😂
Haha! Welcome aboard 🤜🔥🤛
This was awesome. So slickly put together, funny and actually informative. Subbed!
Thanks David! Glad you enjoyed it - welcome aboard 🤜🔥🤛
Imagine your walking through a dimly lit alley way and you hear somthing that sounds like a camera taking a photo, you turn around and see someone aiming this at you
Super cool. This lens is fascinating, and I'm glad to see you getting sharp results when some others didn't.
This lens seems more geared towards birding and other nature shots.
Both hilarious and informative! Amazing video!
Thanks Austin, glad you enjoyed the video 🤜🤛
This is a great tongue in cheek, funny review. Looking forward to the DG DN review ;)
I genuinely wish they could make a DG DN version that was a sensible size - it would be so epic! 😂
Legit, this is the funniest photography video/review I’ve ever seen. Bravo boys 👏🏼
Thanks Scott, appreciate it 🤜🤛
Shooting portraits at 500m does something weird to the face, it flattens all the facial features and makes it look bloated.
I know what you mean, it's a unique look!
love the start of this video! :)
😜🤜🤛
This video is the most amazing and fun review on youtube i ever seen
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 👍
While I definitely AM a fan of natural bokeh provided by super fast lenses (and love my Sigma 35/1.2), in case of such a monster lens and the money&weight tag attached to it, I would always prefer Photoshop blur in post (or even Brenizer method) over this without a shadow of a doubt.
Also, nowadays walking around with this and putting it on a tripod even in the slightest vicinity of an US embassy would definitely get you on a drone operator's collateral damage report...
😂 You're not wrong about the last bit - especially when carting it around in the suspiciously IED-like box it comes in!
I'm just here for the bad ass mural in the beginning! But seriously, I'd buy this lens hands down. I'm off to go look up it's info!
If you have some spare cash and fancy getting me one too, that would be great 😂👍
Loving the editing and humour! Subbed purely for this 👍
Thanks man, welcome aboard sir 🤜🤛
I guess that the best thing Sigma could do as a new version from this is to make an F3.5 version of this and use the slightly smaller aperture to make the lens smaller and lighter. And than also some newer design and modernisering of the optical design can make it much smaller and lighter when still having better optical performance
Good travel lens.
If you're a giant, sure 😂
500mm @ f2.8 looks incredible
Just see your post in Facebook and had to come and have a look!
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for checking it out Ben - hope it didn't disappoint 😊
The most perfect lens for street photography. 🙌
Every camera holds the lens, this lens is holding camera 😂
Tom‼️ I see this video finally got you on SAR 🙌🏽 Keep it up man, hopefully you continue to grow and reach more people 💯
Sick! Thanks for letting me know!
@@TomCalton np man onward and upward. It's good for exposure, but don't put alot of energy into reading the comments on the site... It can be toxic and full of air bags at times who just want to hear themselves speak. But the exposure is 💯
You’re the man Tom 😅👏👏
Thanks brother, you're too kind as always 🙌
You just earned a subscriber with this video 🙂
Made my day!
This lens instantly gets you 5 stars with the cops when you pull it out 😂
Ffs 😂 your videos always make me laugh while still being super informative. Love your videos x
Thanks Roxanne, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Best video ever!!!
Thanks Adam 😜
Love your appearance on the RUclips Creators Hub podcast, Tom (nice to hear another fellow Brit on there!). And the intro to this video sealed the deal. Amazing 😂 Wishing you the best of luck on here.
Hey Mark - thanks bud! Funnily enough, I listened to the episode with you in it not too long ago! You're not too far from me either I believe? Small world!
Thanks for stopping by the channel to say hi 🤜🤛

You would be able to cancel your gym membership thanks to Sigma

This adds a whole new meaning to human tripod 😏
Nailed it 😂🤜🔥🤛
Brilliant!
Thanks dude 👍
so cool and crazy!!!
That intro is the reason I subscribe
😜🤘
0:39 - I see what you did there! 😏🤣
Pure coincidence, I swear 😜😂
Imagine dropping this beast
It'd do more damage to the floor 😂
This is legendary. Such a funny video, well made and informative! You have my sub. :)
Thanks brother! Appreciate it - welcome aboard 🤜🔥🤛
That lens was ahead of its time.
Agreed 👍
I'll wait for the f1.2 version for Fujifilm GFX medium format cameras. With up to six stops of vibration compensation a tripod would be silly.📷🔭
Great video
Thank you!
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
Would you recommend this lens for newborn photography? I want to be discreet.
If you would start taking pictures of kids with this from 100 meters away I think you´d soon find yourself in some serious trouble... ;)
And definitely don't wave it around at crotch height in public like I was... 😬😂
I heard they are making a mirrorles version of it at 1kg, 3k, back drop filters and a built in dart gun to stabilize your subject!
Great video. I think the main purpose of this lens was to draw people to the Sigma booth at trade shows. I've never seen it used except for the kind of YT videos. I remember seeing the two big online rental companies take delivery of these, and thinking those companies are going to loose a fortune on those.
bro knew what he did in the start lol.
Wouldn’t it be 1500mm? Not 1600 because Sony’s crop factor is 1.5 not 1.6 like canon.
Yes, you're right. Someone else corrected me on this - my mistake, but close enough! 🤷🏻♂️
The dream lens right there lol
It's a workout and a lens all in one!
It has anyways internal anti thief protection.... weights like a TON!
great this made me laugh great review
🤣🤣🤣😂😂👍 Great video. Need such a lense... 🤣
Im wondering how this lens will shoot milky way
Hello every on, I am looking a good lens for vlogging. Do you think That this on is OK ?
LOL! Great video mate
Okay , sure, but... does it support 30fps on the A1??? If not that's a total deal breaker!!! This thing would never leave my camera otherwise!
What a combo that would be 🤑
On the MC-11 it may not even allow 10 FPS, but that would be the maximum. On an adapter that emulated a native lens you might get up to 15 FPS.
If I had this lens I would definitely hold it like this 👉🏾 0:18 😂😂😂
Is there even another acceptable way to hold it? 😂
Es impresionante 😍😍🌝
Si - lo es muy grande!
Fleshli... flashlight!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah. I was never going to guess this one.
😂 Yeah, it was a tough one to guess to be fair!
Wow! I'll take two please.
Ok...no one would ever guess this😅😅.. it's a beast lens..I saw the crazy compression in the portrait yesterday but I didn't thought it was this big 😂😂love your videos 👍
If anyone did get it I would have been seriously impressed 😂
@@TomCalton yeah..nice tripod anyway:))
He has his uses 😜
15 kilograms? That's not that heavy - or I should say; not as heavy as I expected it to be. I used to work with glass for telescopes and windows for hospital doors, I expected this lens, with all that glass in it, to be somewhere in the 30 kilogram range - but it weighs half as much! Nice!
I know what you're saying. Though, I still wouldn't fancy using it on a daily basis! 😂
Whoa!
🤯
Wow!!!!
How much does this weigh in terms of Nocts?
That's certainly NOT whisper quiet!
It is if you're hearing impaired 😅
OMFG…. This is both educational and stupid ridiculous funny. Now the question… how is it for Vlogging?
2008 coast this Lens here in Germany 25.000 Euro.
what a lens. the best part about this lens are the amazon reviews
as "dumb" some sounds, for example the ones saying "burning a hole thru the earth" as they turned it to the sun.... its for real DANGEROUS and you can easily start fires with it (750mm F5 newton is already horrendous bright and light up even wood "instantly", imagine F2.8 being literally at least 4x as bright)
That stubby tripod doesn't look like the MVT502AM listed in the description... what is it?
His friend?
Don't call Paul stubby, he doesn't like that. 😂
@@georgewood2566 You guys are funny. Nevermind, I found it on BH.

The internet reviews for this lens are absolutely hilarious!
They're absolute gold 👌
Gimbal?
If your gimbal is an observatory then, yeah 😂
@@TomCalton 😂😂
Well Keith Flint is obviously pretty impressed by this little new toy… lol 😂 👍
It's a firestarter, twisted firestarter 🔥🤘
If only we could all have a human tripod lol...
He's available for hire at a very reasonable rate...
@@TomCalton For much cheaper than the lens I'd hope!
Shoutout to MF Doom on the wall at the end. RIP a legend.
🙌🏻
The camera has a real cool name 😙😏😌
Sigma should change its name to Bigma haha.
Very funny video 😂
Someone else suggested Sigmonster - love it! 😂
@@TomCalton Sounds great too !

This is phenomenal. The spank 😂
He loves it 😂
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL OMG this is an EPIC Review!!
😜
does it balance well on a gimbal? 😂
If you're gimbal is an observatory, sure! 😜
😂😂😂
That camera to lens ratio is absurd
Can you vlog with it? lol
Only if you're happy to stand in a different country whilst you're filming.
1:40
Did you see the camera on that lens?
You should have done a military dress up scene like in Schwarzneggers Commando and then walked away with this Sigma bazooka on your shoulders.
At this point the camera is clinging to the lens like a parasite 😂
the spanking sold it 😹
🍑👋
@@TomCalton Sadly there's no Bend emoji
i love how its called sigma🤣🤣🤣
It looks more link a bomb than a lens 😂
