I just bought the GT and its the acoustic guitar I was looking for. The ergonomics made it perfect for me and stuff like shoulder impingement and carpal tunnel issues didn't flair up while playing. The nut width, the string spacing and the body size and the all solid wood and the electronics and the bag, it was worth the price.

Wow, my 2 main interests in this video (1) you both holding the guitars side by side for a size visual comparison and (2) switching back and fourth between both guitars during Coopers playing. Honestly in this video I felt there is minimal difference. I'm a huge Taylor fan and have always thought the GS-Mini stood alone against all other competition, so the thought of the all solid GT got me super excited, however Taylor was able to make the GS-Mini layered sides/back sound as good as many all solid guitars. I commented on your first video thinking the GT may compete too much with the GS-Mini, but honestly I dont think so based on this video. I'll need to test one in person to confirm. That doesnt mean I will never get a GT, but it means my GS-Mini(s) remain absolute best bang for the buck when it comes to build, feel, and sound (short of my McPherson CF Touring)! Cant wait to watch all the other comparison videos that will surely flood RUclips soon.

more so than a mini. I do not own the GS mini and was going to get one but now I am more interested in the GT. I also don’t want be be to comfy with a shorter scale since I am still learning and I like the idea of the “in the middle” 24 + inch scale length. As many have stated before me, the way Cooper is playing, it makes it difficult to hear the difference. However, one thing that surprised me was the fact that the Mini can truly hold its own. I have a Mini and I would like to tell those who've never played one; when people infer that the Mini is a guitar for small people, it's not really true. It's for small, medium, and large people alike. I have fairly large hands and I have no problem negotiating the fretboard.

To repeat on other comments, when you can play like Cooper then any guitar sounds wonderful, absolutely superb playing ... the GS mini is a great little guitar but given the choice I'd go for the GT, solid woods will improve with time and that little extra size will give a better acoustic sound ... but both guitars are fantastic plugged in, so then it comes down to how comfortable it feels for each individual player. A GT with a cedar or koa top would be superb. I seriously consider buying a GT with spruce / urban ash right off the bat. It feels like it’s just big enough to be seen as a guitar that’s not only made for travelling and for younger people. Also, as in this comparison I felt like the GT had a bit more depth in tone. When it comes to money, though...the Gs mini will probably always be the best bang for the buck when it comes to Taylor guitars. Great video, guys! While Cooper's playing is virtuosic, there is too much going on with the fingers and the style including a lot of string muting. This does not really show the depth/fullness of tone of either guitar. It just shows lots of notes - very few of which are sustained. I'd like to hear both guitars played by Chris using the tunes he regularly plays to demonstrate acoustic guitars.

If you want to demo the tone of an instrument, the latter style of playing is best.

In my opinion Koa Plus > GT. I just got back from trying these at the store. The Koa Plus sounds incredible: the bass tone is full and warm, warmer than the GT, The Koa plus sounds like a full sized guitar to me, but it does seem to lack overtones and sustain compared to the GT or a full size (was hard to discern as well over the faint air/humidifier noise), although I would actually prefer this since my maple 614e has tons of overtones and sometimes I want them to shut up lol - just depends on the song/style. I could also feel the K+ resonate against my body. The K+ defied expectations, while the GT sounded like what you'd expect from a slightly smaller than full sized guitar. Another difference (although this could change with action / string choice) was the GT was slightly slinkier (easier to bend) than the mini because by defualt the string tension is less. But the K+ I played also felt like the action was a little too high. One thing I liked better about the GT was that it was easier to find the sweet spot in tone/volume when resting my wrist on the strings for a semi palm muted sound when flat picking. On the K+ I found it easy to have too much palm resting on the strings and dampening the sound too much, but maybe with practice this would be overcome; on the positive side, since the K+ is more punchy and has less sustain anyways, even if I erred on less palm I could still get a percussive sound that didn't bleed. To my ears the K+ definitely sounds better than the other mini varients. I don't know the specs as to what's different, but its night and day difference to me - the bass tone on the K+ is amazing. I don't mean that it's overpowering - the EQ across strings was just right. Harder to say for the GT since I found it's bass to be brighter. I didn't try the GT plugged in. The K+ plugged in sounded fine, nothing to write home about - the higher the volume the more of that metalic zing there is with basically all amped acoustics. Not sure how it compared to the regular minis plugged in.

From the photos I’ve seen, it appears that the back and sides have an open pore finish, like the most recent Martin nylon string guitar from a few years ago. While I’ve heard that the open pore is supposed to help improve the sound, I think it cheapens the appearance. That being said, I’m one of those who requested a solid wood GS Mini, even though I’ve never owned a GS Mini. So, if I liked everything else about the GT, I would likely overlook the finish. I have two very nice Taylor 12 fret guitars, one steel and one nylon, so I’m not in the immediate market for the GT, but with aging hands, I may be in a couple years when Taylor will certainly have newer versions with upgraded appointments. Thanks for the outstanding comparison of the two guitars!

saw an interview with Andy Powers where the issue of building an all wood GS mini came up. he said for the increase in cost there is no discernable tone difference. He has made an all wood model and what they have down with the current build they have tweeked the tone about as good as it can get and solid wood will not help it mostly because of size. he said it came down to going just a bit larger. From what I hear the sound is very noticeable and much more large guitar sounding and mature. The playability is improved with a lighter touch and feel. the new finish with these and the American Dream is a very thin satin. No fillers are used so that is why the pours look open. While gloss finishes are nice many instruments I have played with very little finish or even varnish sounded way better . I have the last of the X braced 814CE that Andy Redesigned and am really looking at this as a back up and practice guitar or even more. Will play and feel much more like my PRS McCarty 594 singlecut.

Hey, I've been meaning to buy a new guitar and I really like the GT's body size because it's small enough that it's comfy but big enough that I has some depth and loudness
Do you know any other 7/8 steel string guitars with good quality that would be under $600? I can only find classical ones.
    Thanks!

I originally bought a GS mini about a month ago for a travel guitar because I don't want to travel with my 54 year old Martin. I brought it home and after a day or two decided that I could not live with a guitar that had a somewhat anemic bass (my opinion only - don't want to offend anyone). I brought it back to Guitar Center and compared it to the GTe Urban Ash, which I liked much better. I paid the difference for the upgrade. BTW the gig bag for the GT is a huge improvement as well. Been playing the GT, unelectrified, daily for about a month now and am very happy with the sound and playability.

Cooper is a fabulous fast fingered guitarist. BUT this is supposed to be about the guitars and I finding his very fast work amazing but not helpful in hearing the guitar subtleties, his finger work dominates everything else.

I have a GS mini The head stock looks kind of cheap but really the ONLY negative of the GS mini in my mind is the 1-11/16 hut width can be a little cramped. Though he doesn't seem to mind.

@@thenextgeneracion4963 Can't speak for the other user, but as someone with slender hands who's always had a hard time barring chords, the GS Mini's nut width is fantastic (and one of the main reasons that made me go for that model). Of course it all depends on what you are looking for specifically, but both in terms of playability and sound, the GS Mini is probably the best bang for your buck!

My bank account likes the GS Mini and I loved it when I was looking for a small bodied guitar but it was over my price range at the time (hated the sound of the Baby Taylor and ended up with a Little Martin). Now I’m looking for a step up. This video was helpful and makes me lean toward the GT but then again, for the price should I just go with an American Dream?
I also have a 1980 Yamaha dreadnought that I love the sound of but the neck lacks the playability of Taylor and Martin.

GT>Academy 10>GS mini. For the money, and a guitar that’s very playable for an average sized adult; I’d go Academy 10E all day; but the GT is like a custom version of the Academy or GS with custom proportions. I think C class has more going for it than V class. If you can play like Cooper it really doesn’t matter.

Yes, I like a big, even, butbassy as well as bright sound.

I just ordered a GT Though I am concerned about the sound /Tone & Bass. It sounds great in the Alamo Video's, but listening and watching many of the other reveal video's it seems like folks aren't that impressed. I am hoping it is just poor recordings and poor apple Cancerpods err... Airpods ha!
Listening to these Videos you two make this GT sing Though honestly I think the GS mini sound just slightly different but not necessarily worse. both sounded great (cooper may have something to do with that. ok, a lot). I Have a GS Mini and the Martin Dread Jr 10 The Taylor GS mini is awesome and my son loves it we recently purchased the Martin Dread Jr 10 and I love it because of the 1-3/4 nut size (My only complaint about the GS Mini is the 1-11/16 nut ) The GS mini in my opinion and Looks even better than the Dread Jr 10 IMHO though they both sound pretty darn good. My concern is for $1600 Which is only %100 less than my Taylor Vclass 314CE) won't sound even close.
Does the smaller size lose that much versus the Taylor full size? I wanted an all wood us made GS mini as well sort of wish the nut would be 1-3/4 and concerned about lack of tone for $1600 on this GT decisions decisions...

Beg to differ, the greatest travel guitar of all is the Furch LJ10. I have both, the mini GS and the Little Jane and even with being both, smaller and foldable, the LJ supersedes the mini GS in playability and sound, especially when recorded. 👌

  • @thomasgaida7174
    @thomasgaida7174 3 года назад

If volume was the priority with the invention of the new bracing wouldn't it make sense to offer a GT guitar with a cedar top? As far as I know, cedar tops are said to be a bit louder and mellower than spruce. Judging from the 2 videos the GT you showed seems to be a bit more on the brighter side of the spectrum, so cedar/mahogany might give this guitar a very different sound.

Honestly, I prefer the tone of the GS mini, fuller, more bass. Could it be the strings, or the Urban ash? Not that the GT sounds bad, but for the price and the tone, The mini wins this one. Of course, when a mahogany or cedar top becomes available, and maybe a cutaway I'll have to revisit and compare. Right now the upgrade for me would still be a grand concert 512 or 322

    • @auramac

Maybe those medium strings. Need some lights to sound as full... plus I'm a lefty which further complicates the issue. Right now, fave guitar is J45, am considering Martin CEO 7, up to D28, then this caught my eye.

Cooper has mastery over a number of key guitar techniques that if he chose to he could play a box guitar and make it sound like the star of the show. The winner is actually Cooper in this comparison as he can make any beat guitar sound great as he able to project his ability through anything with strings and a soundboard making it sound excellent. They say that its 2./3 the guitar player and 1/3 the guitar at his level.
