The premise of the GiantGrantGames channel is super unique. There are three campaigns that must be completed. Each is guarded by a progressively harder no-build mission.
The objective of Starcraft 2 multiplayer is super unique. There are groups of enemy buildings scattered around the map that need to be destroyed. Each is guarded by a progressively stronger army of enemies.
The objective of Legacy of the Void: Zealots Only is super unique. There are 9 locations with mission chains that must be beaten. Each is guarded by a progressively stronger force of enemies.
The objective of *insert x level in FE6 before Chp 22* is super unique. Theres a castle which I have to sieze with my 5-mov Lord. The tile is defended by a strong unit who would not only whoop my units in a 1v1 fight, but has defensive bonuses, evasion bonuses, and health restoration. He is defended by a progressively stronger force of red units, who are backed up by ambush spawns (Edit: Changed to reflect more accurate gameplay)

Ther only thing I'd suggest is he spammed more nexus's, they are essentially giant tank units that can shoot both ground and air, I usually spam them to go super far in Last Stand, and spamming them in the final mission is a massive delay to all attacks, that way he'd have kept his only mineral rule and not needed to use gas for the towers.

Despite the impossible goal, this is my favorite challenge run Grant has done so far! When Grant started uploading the parts of his playthrough on his archieves channel, I remembered an obscure micro trick with Charge and wondered if it could be used to beat mission 1. 12 Hours of experimentation later I had succeeded, unfortunately Grant had already finished the complete run. I played along with the zealot-only challenge to see if I could solve the other missions too. - Mission 2: The Growing Shadow - Artanis-only: The Inifite Cycle - Templars Charge (due to a technicallity of the final objective being on the high ground) - Final Mission: Salvation are, as far as I know, impossible with the rules Grant initially set out. I beat all the other missions on Brutal with the original rules, including the first 2 prologue missions and the first epilogue one. I *believe* mission 2 is possible if you break the rules and allow rescued stalkers to kill the final flying objectives as long as they don't attack anything else. Laser-Drill rules basically. However I found that mission too hard to complete myself on Brutal (it's quite easy on Hard). I can't macro as well as Grant but did find some tricks to minimize losses against attack waves. As for the Charge trick in mission 1: a charging Zealot can (manually) change targets and keep it's charge-speed. So you can manually cast it on one of your own zealots to charge and have this superfast zealot switch targets between your zealots and the enemy to pull all enemies away from the groups and spinecrawlers to be killed by your other zealots while losing only shields. I would add that allowing yourself either Solar Lance or Monoliths/Nexi for defense is required to make the run not just possible (recquired for Salvation) but FUN. So many flyers (that outrange cannons) in this campaign.
"Protoss have an expensive but powerful army" Certainly expensive, not sure about that first part if we compare this run with Wings of Liberty Marines Only.
At the end of the day, most missions, with some caveats, like Solar Lance or photon cannons, you could argue that they are possible with Zealots only. But, at the end of the day, the fact that you cannot possibly beat The Growing Shadow without building Stalkers (Even if you could somehow bypass all the zerg bases and the Protoss encampment, you literally have nothing else that can even touch a Carrier) means, yeah, even if you wanted to get pedantic with the other missions, the fact that the second mission is impossible even with pedantics...yeah. Still, a valiant attempt and it was certainly interesting to see you pull off what you did. Great video.
Just want to say, I really appreciate how much effort went into this run, and this video, even though it wasn't your first choice. You went above and beyond.
Im impressed that you finished this run, I watched as you suffered for hours on the first mission and literally declared it impossible at the second mission, this was a logistical nightmare. Well done on beating it without zealots that can jump on motherships
This was the first of your videos where I’d had a chance to see a lot of the original streams, and I’m frankly amazed at your ability to condense an interesting, coherent video out of all those hours of footage. Keep it up! =D
Really awesome run. I loved some of the creative ideas, especially the one for the carrier mission. Combining time tops, solar lance, and deploy pylon was genius.
I'm really glad you made this video, I remember watching you saying it wasn't possible before in the vod, but I enjoy the difference between your "live" and edited material
so something interesting I found out is that apparently spinlots can pierce all armor with their whirlwind (or at least the 1 life armor of a stalker but I am decently sure it will work on higher armor amounts, further testing required to confirm), so they not only handle the problem of damage density but also an enemy having high armor. It still definitely is very weak to splash, but as long as you can micro the whirlwind zealots away from things that splash it should be fine.
Zealot 1: "Who's in charge here?" Zealot 2: ... Zealot 1: "Where is the air support?" Zealot 2 points on the Spear of Adun above Artanis: "This mission cannot be beaten with Zealots only. Take us into orbit, Executor, we've seen enough"
Doing my bi annual rewatch of every challenge video, watching each back to back is always interesting. Seeing how the different strategies and ideas come togerher and all
i love how the "unique" missions are never unique, its always just "there's this number of things to kill/capture and they're defended by gradually stronger enemies"
A really good video and pretty good attempt. I would say that Zealots Only means that's the only unit (i.e. buildings and Spear of Adun are available). Still good video. Here is a smiley face for anyone looking for a smiley face :)
Just want to say Grant, I deeply respect your attitude tackling this challenge. I was worried you were going to not even try, but you went above and beyond! I don't care if you couldn't make every mission work and had to do shenanigans to make it work, you definitely took it seriously and like a champ.
It's amazing to see the amount of time and commitment taken for these videos through the VODS on your archive channel. Really makes me appreciate the edited version of your challenge run. Excellent explanations and editing, keep it up! Although try not work too hard and strain yourself, like with the blind folded run. That one was amazing....but at what cost. haha
Dude what the heck, you only have 66k subscribers? I feel like you've been putting out quality, entertaining content for way longer than it should take to reach a couple million subs. I hope your fortune improves, because it's got a long way to go before it catches up to your talent in making good videos.
If I may: I did a Zealot only run for Last stand and used Nexus as defence from air attacks, their range and extreme health can easily hold against the airwaves sent against you and reach the 1.5 billion Zerg and therefore the Solarite you need.
I'm really happy you went through with this challenge and gave it your all. Even though you didn't succeed by your standards, it made for a really interesting video and I hope it ends up performing as well as you deserve
I'm sure a lot of us expected the meme in Rule 5, it is pretty much obligatory at this point. I wouldn't have missed it. 11:19 "Kidnap" is such a _strong_ word, let's go with "Recruit". Yes, "recruit". "Long Zelots". Heh. "What are you doing Step-Zelot?" Maybe bump the unit up by one and do Stalker only? Because Stalkers can hit both air and ground. It's more in the _spirit_ of the challenge idea, using a "basic" unit to deal with the whole campaign. Thanks for the video!
Great video, I'm glad to see a challenge run make it to the main channel, even if it is a failure, the jokes were funny, the explanations were good, And I agree with your assessment, Zealots only cannot be done, it's not like Zergling only where you have spore crawlers, and the fact that since the Zerg don't have as many options that hit air and ground at the same time (or can airlift em) makes for a supremely different take. Now we need Marine Only Lotv :)
I applaud you doing your best to stick with the constraints you started with Mr Grant, and it was great to watch! So although it is not possible technically, it was great to watch
Compromises, constantly changing the rules, struggling with the possibility of hypocrisy, these are all things that define what makes someone a zealot. I'd say this is a success.
What I like about these runs is that you push aside what is typically known about units and structures and think so far outside the box that L from Deathnote would be proud.
If the rules are: 1) The only units you're allowed to make are Zealots and Probes. 2) The only units that are allowed to attack are Zealots. 3) Buildings are not units. 4) The Spear of Adun (and all of its abilities) is not a unit. Then maybe? I'm going to have to try this.
Fun fact about The Spear of Adun mission: Reinforcements only appear if a conduit is released. You can run roughshod over all the enemy bases, leave the conduits alone, and then take them out simultaneously at the end of the mission to prevent being overwhelmed.
I'm rewatching this, and I think I have an interesting solution to all the problems you had in this run. If you play with the legacy of the meme zealots, with the ones that can fly you might stand a chance in this run.

Goliath #1: I want to go home (while being shoved into a hostile banshee by a legion of zealots).
(moments later)
Goliath #2: This isn't my exit (while being shoved into the same banshee because Goliath #1 died).
Amon's Reach
14:02
Roach: Get em' Thrasher!
Roach: I said EM' not ME (after being blasted).
Thrasher: Sorry.
Templar's Return
33:54
Colossus: Guess I will go die (after being rescued, while running off screen to indeed go and die since they are not zealots).
"And decide it's time to get A-move on"
I don't know if this was an intentional pun or not but if so bravo
24:10 “Long Zealot” is my new favorite nickname for the Colossus
It is just a long zealot with a fire spear
He’s zealong
Despite the impossible goal, this is my favorite challenge run Grant has done so far!
When Grant started uploading the parts of his playthrough on his archieves channel, I remembered an obscure micro trick with Charge and wondered if it could be used to beat mission 1. 12 Hours of experimentation later I had succeeded, unfortunately Grant had already finished the complete run. I played along with the zealot-only challenge to see if I could solve the other missions too.
- Mission 2: The Growing Shadow
- Artanis-only: The Inifite Cycle
- Templars Charge (due to a technicallity of the final objective being on the high ground)
- Final Mission: Salvation
are, as far as I know, impossible with the rules Grant initially set out.
“It’s actually really fun. And then I died”
Me in every RTS
Same
Agreed
I just love how you keep on getting Alarak stuck in the pylon prison
Alarak is probably the strongest turret in the game
"Protoss have an expensive but powerful army"
Certainly expensive, not sure about that first part if we compare this run with Wings of Liberty Marines Only.
The first missions seem to be the hardest. This is a weird run.
@@thegreatestdane8978 Adun*
That's because early portions of LotV are hard
SoA and Sky Shield, in particular, are just dumb
Stuff like 33:05 is what I absolutely love about this channel. Finding such a specific route in order to get things done, it's amazing
The ingenuity of the move on Templars' Charge was such a brilliant move, so impressive.
Damn that was cool! Even though I watched it all in archives, it was still a fun ride.
The host segment on LOTV no build will be 2 minutes of him justifying why ripping reality apart is perfectly acceptable.
It is.
6:49 the golden quote
Im impressed that you finished this run, I watched as you suffered for hours on the first mission and literally declared it impossible at the second mission, this was a logistical nightmare. Well done on beating it without zealots that can jump on motherships
This was the first of your videos where I’d had a chance to see a lot of the original streams, and I’m frankly amazed at your ability to condense an interesting, coherent video out of all those hours of footage. Keep it up! =D
I love all the funny flavor text on the gameplay
Really awesome run. I loved some of the creative ideas, especially the one for the carrier mission. Combining time tops, solar lance, and deploy pylon was genius.
I'm really glad you made this video, I remember watching you saying it wasn't possible before in the vod, but I enjoy the difference between your "live" and edited material
That end sequence of what you did in the carrier mission was one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen.
so something interesting I found out is that apparently spinlots can pierce all armor with their whirlwind (or at least the 1 life armor of a stalker but I am decently sure it will work on higher armor amounts, further testing required to confirm), so they not only handle the problem of damage density but also an enemy having high armor. It still definitely is very weak to splash, but as long as you can micro the whirlwind zealots away from things that splash it should be fine.
Zealot 1: "Who's in charge here?"
Zealot 2: ...
Zealot 1: "Where is the air support?"
Zealot 2 points on the Spear of Adun above
Artanis: "This mission cannot be beaten with Zealots only. Take us into orbit, Executor, we've seen enough"
Nice call back
I would love to see GGG try similar challenges on other RTS games !
just watched this series; wings, heart and legacy back to back. You're such a nerd. You're the best. Super entertaining, good shit ggwp
Doing my bi annual rewatch of every challenge video, watching each back to back is always interesting. Seeing how the different strategies and ideas come togerher and all
A very commendable effort, and it was interesting to see just what you can indeed do! Thank you for your sacrifice
I love this channel so much, it's gotten to the point where I'll like the video before watching it. Just amazing quality & fun!
Keep it up Grant, Zealots only or not it's a pleasure to watch.
This was brutal to watch on the streams
i love how the "unique" missions are never unique, its always just "there's this number of things to kill/capture and they're defended by gradually stronger enemies"
This mad lad have done it again.
Sick. And for that I respect GGG!
I was totally fine with the way you solved this problem. There were some really creative ideas, which I love to see :D ... cool run
Good thing stalkers only exists, but both runs are interesting in their own way :)
Next: Starcraft Legacy of the Void with one damaged Probe only, while AlphaStar controls the enemy units.
It's amazing to see the amount of time and commitment taken for these videos through the VODS on your archive channel. Really makes me appreciate the edited version of your challenge run.
Excellent explanations and editing, keep it up! Although try not work too hard and strain yourself, like with the blind folded run. That one was amazing....but at what cost. haha
"Immobilized melee units are the most useless thing in the game." -A man that has forgotten Predators exist.
Hybridge: You can't defeat me zealot!!
Zealot: Yeah.. but she can *point at the Slendis's mothership*
Dude what the heck, you only have 66k subscribers? I feel like you've been putting out quality, entertaining content for way longer than it should take to reach a couple million subs.
I hope your fortune improves, because it's got a long way to go before it catches up to your talent in making good videos.
He's doing quite a bit better now
Binging through all these Starcraft runs at the moment. Not only interesting challenges but also very well edited and funny. _b
Thank you for the video. Even with a failed run, it was fun to see how it went. Good on you for seeing the run to the end, regardless of the results.
If I may: I did a Zealot only run for Last stand and used Nexus as defence from air attacks, their range and extreme health can easily hold against the airwaves sent against you and reach the 1.5 billion Zerg and therefore the Solarite you need.
That Dev that coded the handful of Crawler/hydra flanking on the cliff against the big robot thing
-GOTTEEEEM!!
Your channel reminds me of the backlogs a lot
I'm really happy you went through with this challenge and gave it your all. Even though you didn't succeed by your standards, it made for a really interesting video and I hope it ends up performing as well as you deserve
I'm sure a lot of us expected the meme in Rule 5, it is pretty much obligatory at this point. I wouldn't have missed it.
11:19 "Kidnap" is such a _strong_ word, let's go with "Recruit". Yes, "recruit".
"Long Zelots". Heh.
"What are you doing Step-Zelot?"
Maybe bump the unit up by one and do Stalker only? Because Stalkers can hit both air and ground.
It's more in the _spirit_ of the challenge idea, using a "basic" unit to deal with the whole campaign.
Thanks for the video!

"And just as all hope is lost...it is."
Story of my life right there.
Omg I've been waiting for this for so long! I'm so excited to watch
The Goliath Scene (11:14) was gold, made my day :D
Love your stream VODs and these edited pieces even more. Good stuff GGG
I wish to see Wc3 Final Campaign! :D
Yeah, both of them :P
it's commmmminggggg
Your Templar’s Charge solution was genius! Loved this watch.
The fact that I hardly can beat any SC2 campaign on Brutal without any additional challenges adds to the admiration I have for Grant doing these runs.
I applaud you doing your best to stick with the constraints you started with Mr Grant, and it was great to watch! So although it is not possible technically, it was great to watch
Compromises, constantly changing the rules, struggling with the possibility of hypocrisy, these are all things that define what makes someone a zealot. I'd say this is a success.
man, I've been binge watching all of these videos and I've enjoyed everyd second of it
The little captions are so hilarious haha liked and subbed!
Watching this vids reminds me how fun were the sc2 campaigns.
What I like about these runs is that you push aside what is typically known about units and structures and think so far outside the box that L from Deathnote would be proud.
ok the ending to templar's charge in this run was pretty awesome ngl
Lings have so much more dps per surface area it insane
I like that you recall your zealots even after finishing the objective and winning. Save all of the brave warriors that you can.
If the rules are:
1) The only units you're allowed to make are Zealots and Probes.
2) The only units that are allowed to attack are Zealots.
3) Buildings are not units.
4) The Spear of Adun (and all of its abilities) is not a unit.
Then maybe? I'm going to have to try this.
I love the part where you shove two Goliaths into the banshee 😂
Fun fact about The Spear of Adun mission: Reinforcements only appear if a conduit is released. You can run roughshod over all the enemy bases, leave the conduits alone, and then take them out simultaneously at the end of the mission to prevent being overwhelmed.
When you said "Their step-zealot Artanis" I spit out my coffee hahaha. 11/10 dude.
I'm rewatching this, and I think I have an interesting solution to all the problems you had in this run.
If you play with the legacy of the meme zealots, with the ones that can fly you might stand a chance in this run.
Something about these videos is just poetic af
11:55 i just imagine the zealots "Death Sound" as they all start spinning violently around the poor Hybrid
geez that made me laugh so hard :`D
33:47 i give that hydralisk a 10/10 for that elegant flip
I love this channel so much! :D
11:20 I laughed way too hard, this is the most jenk yet genius circumvention of the rules xD
i really like the shots of non-zealot units beating the crap out of each other at the start of missions
