Porsche 911 992 Documentary

- Porsche released the details of the 992's first powertrains as part of the model’s debut. Both the Carrera S and Carrera 4S - the first two members of the next-generation 911 family - feature twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engines. We knew from the debut that both models would have 443 horsepower on offer, but we can now report that there’s 390 pound-feet of torque, as well. All told, there's 23 horsepowers and 22 lb-ft of torque more than the current Carrera S.
Despite these modest gains (relative to 400-plus-horsepower sports cars), the new 911 is much more potent. The sprint to 60 miles per hour takes just 3.5 seconds for the Carrera S and 3.4 seconds for the all-wheel-drive variant - grab the Sport Chrono Package, and those figures fall to 3.3 and 3.2 seconds, respectively. The top speed, meanwhile, is 191 mph for both variants.
Porsche calls the 992's engine “new,” but really, its official name gives away its modified nature - the 9A2 Evo. Based on the 991.2's engine, the 3.0-liter in the new 911 features a revised exhaust manifold made from cast iron. Combined with a pair of larger turbochargers - the symmetrical units have electric wastegates, and larger compression and turbine wheels - the 9A2 Evo promises a reduction in turbo lag. That said, the larger turbocharger does mean less accessible torque compared to last year's 9A2 engine - peak twist is available from 2,300 rpm rather than 1,700 rpm.
Engineers also repositioned the intercoolers, moving them from the inside corners of the rear bumper to almost directly above the muffler. While there's a negligible decrease in cooling efficiency - exhaust systems get hot, after all - the new position allowed Porsche to enlarge both intercoolers. There's 14 percent more cooling capacity, and because the position is more efficient, the throughput of cool air is higher.
One of the big differences between the 911 we'll receive here in the United States and what our cousins across the pond will see is the presence of a gasoline particulate filter - European Union law mandates its presence. What that means is that continental 911s will be cleaner than North American models, although our car will sound better. How much better, though, we can't say. Even our Porsche Cars North America contact at the event hadn't heard an NA-spec car.
That said, the European model sounds perfectly throaty, both on startup and under full chat. The sound of 992s running hot laps regularly interrupted our tech sessions on the Hockenheim main tower's fourth floor. And that sound, aside from the sheer volume, was every bit a Porsche flat six. Porsche's engineers once again have nailed the 911's soundtrack.

Made to feel good on a long drive,
Made to be pushed to the limit on a mountain road or a track
Made to make you smile every time you go back to the parking lot
Made to make your hair stand up on your hands every time you turn the key
It doesn't only do one or two things it does them all........Porsche
My FRS does all that, and more.
Justice so does my Camry
Justice FRS??
It maybe does the first two, if you can stand the road noise. But it's no more exciting than owning a Golf. It certainly doesn't make any hair stand up.. They've always been ordinary cars.
@@Malc180s good for you ....make sure you drive electric you know for the noise.
finally some great video with interior design footage, car software development, testing etc
30 minutes in and I am still intrigued by a video with no narration.....well done
Porsche, please hire me. My Grandfather was a WW2 Vet. Murrells Marauder, and he went on to own a high end custom car shop that specialized in Porsche in NY in the 80's. He was way ahead of the times. He always promised me a Porsche 911 when I was older, but he passed in 94 due to illnesses from his service in the war. I wish he could see this video, he would be so impressed by the tech. Maybe one day when my kids are put of school I can afford a 911 Turbo S.
Incredible, the technology involved in producing this car is mind blowing!
Thank you very much. DANKE
This truly shows the level of detail going into these cars. Things that other automobile manufacturers don't even consider and engineered to the max! I recall reading several years ago that Porsche has the tail (spoiler) go up a bit farther on cabrio cars than the coupes--due to the increased drag produced by the canvas material. It's very evident that that level of detail goes through and through. Fortunately, being the world's most profitable car manufacturer allows them what I would call 'engineering in depth.' I count myself very fortunate to own two Porsches.
NO Comments , no negotiate about Price, This piece off Art and technology is worth every $ !!! Love Porsche ❤❤❤🚀🚀🚀✔✔✔
And why the funk is there 153 not likes!🤬😠 These guys are super talented in their craft. Long live Porsche and God bless these folk 👍👍👍
If you ignore the talkshow bit this is a really quiet and relaxing documentary that actually shows you tonnes of what happens beind the scenes
This is why its simply the best car in the world. Porsche, a bargain at any price!
Danke I could watch this for hours... the front bumper of the yellow one looks good
Incredible! So much into the technology since the 930 Turbo and all the others....
Nice Clip! I love Porsche! Today I went to the Porsche Museum at Zuffenhausen with a friend! Was a nice trip! But I didn't see any 992... But it's nice to see this car here in this clip! :-)
From Steven Nikitas, Massachusetts USA
I am an artist (painter, sculptor, draftsman, etc.) and have had a long-standing interest in supercar designs, in race cars, etc.
Years ago I perceived a visual shortcoming in the design of the Lamborghini Murcielago so I spent three weeks in the Summer of 2013 making thirteen drawings (side view, top view, isometric, rear quarterpanel, wheels, rear view, etc.) to correct the weakness. My drawings were based on my own sense of design and proportion, and also on an important idea from art history practiced by the Ancient Greeks.
I measured the side view after I had completed it and while I drew it by eye it was mathematically perfect. So I knew that I was onto something.
I mailed the drawings to Lamborghini but heard nothing back.
This new Porsche is very nice. It is amazing how Porsche can change the design so incrementally. The car is always changing and fresh, but seems to always remain basically the same. That is a very subtle but complex artistic feat. This video is really fascinating.
However there is one small and simple change that could make the car even more beautiful. It is an idea that has been recognized in art for thousands of years.
I have made a drawing of the Porsche with the design change added.
Send it to Weissach
Thank you for this video ans for this new 911 :-)
This is beyond human precision and perfection. I will spend money for this vehicle, no question, no debating. The rims with several selections. Only that fitting perfectly matching styles.
Awesome 👌
Thanks for putting this up!!!!
A 911 Porsche is my 4wheel goal!
2020👍well done Porsche
It is available 2019. You should hurry up :)
The best advice I can give to the future 911 designers is this - the fundamental look of the car was established in the 1970s - imo a seventies icon. So honour that icon.
1963....
992
Thanks
AMAZING WORK... BRAVO..
Porsche ASMR 🤯
Hoosier Cruiser hilarious
Those driving skills thought, smooth test drive
Stupid way to make a documentary.
The Talkshow is talking about something and the images are different. 😬😬😬😬
yes, STUPID is the word!!!
Beautiful cars 😍 , driving in that snow w/the mountains, awesome 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I have never seen such a professional documentary on other sports cars. Just on Porsche
I'm still saving to buy a 2006.
And you will love it, I bought my 2005 back in 2013 and have loved driving/modding it every day since
That was my first 911, you will love it. Get a 2007 instead, they fixed many issues with the engine present on the early 2006s.
I'm mid fifties and just started getting serious about buying my first 911. I've always loved and Drove one for the first last year on a race track in Las Vegas. I was blown away with it and obviously I should have been with it being a GT3 RS
saving for a 2004 turbo s haha
Infinitear I can't wait to buy one and good luck getting yours
The best built cars in the world, thanks for the documentary.
So why DO the 997 have bore scoring
I'm hearing voices in my head. I was watching a 992 documentary and then voices from nowhere. Better make an appointment with my doctor.
22:22 That is Really NICE Gaming set up
This is model 2019, now produced and may be ordered yet
This is great....very impressive process. And the producers of the video didn't make our ears bleed with an annoying stock music track!
Mesmerizing to watch this
that was awesome. thanks!!!
That is soo cool how they wrap the clay model
A BEAUTIFUL VIDEO.....
Mit dem 992 hat Porsche sich desingntechnisch selbst übertroffen einfach wunderschön
Where can I get that wheel system? Swapping rims in 5 minutes.
German perfection !!!
Why is there dialogue that doesn't match what I'm watching? I'm done
Being a owner of a 991.2 this model of course had my attention - also because it’s a design icon that everybody recognizes on the road. The more I look at it the more I like it....but two things that I have trouble with is the PORSCHE name under the lights in the back - first seen on the 718. In my humble opinion it would have looked a lot better if the chassis went all the way up under the lights just like the 991 C4 model. Everyone knows that this car is a Porsche and that’s the beauty of it...so the lines would have been even more classic without this big name on the back. The next thing is the interior and the choice of gear lever design and the lines in general which I find a little messy. I hope it will grow on me when I see it in person. No doubt that the new model is the best ever and it’s been improved again. The Porsche 911 remains an icon 🙂
An Icon can never be redesigned, it is just being enhanced!
Teamwork, seriousness and professionalism, the PORSCHE brand. . . only for few.
Lovely car.thanks all engineering department
Very surprised by the loud Seat actuator noise @ 50:53, the electrical steering column is so silent in comparaison.
Outro nível pqp!
Great video! Very informative, but what's with that double sound on the start?
Pavel Stanichnikov 😂
I want a factory production line video of the 992... pls make one!
Ja! Seconded
Mmm oonjvijvv
Nice drive perfect
Never to chance my Maserati QP Sport GT... the V8 Ferrari motor is so powerfull ... Ciao Han.
I love Porsche!
To me Porsche is the only desireable electric car maker in europe. I bet the Taycan will be perfect! :D
997MK2 The best
This is not a documentary more so than just a manufacturing video without words
No doubts: best Sportscar in the world!
but for for what price
7:15 reminds me of a 944II
Pure beauty!
Now that's R&D in manufacturing a product. After 34:20 Air-Air-Water intercoolers, I wonder what the time difference is between the AWD and RWD GT3RS on the very wet road.
Beautiful, one day I will have one
Have you guys thought about making a heavy suede dash board... I sat in a Lamborghini 10 years ago with a thick suede dashboard it was unforgettable
Yeah lots of hard work building cars like this people don't relate to attention to detail and vigorous testing great work Porsche designers one day I hope to own one 👍
Brilliant doc but I miss the great one ( Walter) testing?
Documentary? Hardly. It’s an hour and 1/2 of B-Roll footage sprinkled with unrelated audio commentary. All with world record levels of adds. I think 17 total, double 30sec breaks.
How much for the tape measure?
"..the focus is the driver driving..." ... a car is something you drive ... something you don't drive, is something that is NOT a Car... , like a washing machine, or a Tesla.

Quanto lavoro per partorire l ennesimo gioiello Porsche
One day I'll have one.
One critique on an otherwise great deal of unvoiced clips of the Porsche - Could you maybe put some more ads in next time?
Lets not forget Porsche "Dropped The Ball" with the M96/97 engine. So much for the "epitome of automotive engineering".
Wow!! I have always dreamed of owning a Porsche ! ... Now I want to be the first to marry one 😍
marvelous!!!
Whyyyyy the put the wrong voice from LA auto showwwww?????
My guess is YTube copyright rules forced their hand.
Can't stop asking myself this question. So wrong.
Considering the attention to detail, why are reviewers saying the far end two dials are obscured from the drivers view by the steering wheel?
I remember when the 911 turbo was the strongest German Car,Back in 1976 or so. I was totally flashed by it. Nowadays the "weakest'" 911 hast about 400 PS, And a VW Golf GTI Has 260 PS(=HP), Like the turbo Had. That's Development...
Greetings from Germany, O
The studio looks identical to the one that I've been at Ford Detroit
A tremendous look at mechanization at its best. Amazing that it is profitable to produce these "things". Well done 'Hermann'!!
So interesting!
What happens to the development cars? Do they use them for crash testing after?
Great 👍
I love when I see the new models of Porsche in the places where I live, in south Italy, near the Nardo Technical Center
I always wanted to be a part of the automotive design process. I'm still kicking myself in the ass for not pursuing it.
You can still do it, or something similar. It's never too late, I'm telling you. Do it! Even start as a hobby and see where it takes you.
Go for it! its never too late! Otherwise you will just keep regretting it.
Wish you guys were my friends when I was growing up.
I've been thinking about going back to school and changing my career. So who knows.
You don't even have to go all in with schooling if you are unsure. Read some books, practice concepts on the side, start a hobby YT channel about car designs. I changed careers fully at 35 and now I'm happier than ever. You can too. Best of luck.

Very nice I like it
Where do you get that clay?

Problem and Solution offered: Dash/front/interior vents selections
The problem with observing the virtual person/driver reaching for the touch screen in the Porsche 992/911, is that this does not at all show the decision to place vent choices onto the touch screen in the first place. That is the decision that I have trouble with. Further, setting up for future autonomous driving or voice command still ignored the fact that a series of things go on in a persons mind both sequentially and as quickly as multi-tasking can be learned. The vents have been manual until this new revision. There are better vent placements in some cars; there are better manual directing of vents by a person in some cars; and there are better adjustment, manually of volume of air in some cars. I believe that being able to direct the air at the extreme right passenger location in left-side steering wheel cars would be the only electronic control of these functions that makes any real sense to people, all of whom are used to managing their vents manually. All others can easily be reach. The solution is common ground. Thus, a manual switch that is right/left but which activates and electronic switch could be placed in a strategic and obvious location that would offer either the manual adjustment of the air vents, or the touch screen adjustment. This would allow the customer/driver the option of doing it the old way or the "new" way. I would pay for that switch in the upgrade of the car. The other switching could be incorporated as appropriate with the off or on selection of the touch screen controls. My problem and solution make perfectly good sense and would not be difficult at all to accomplish architecturally. AF
beauty porsche
Excellent video, especially the "all out" on the Nuringburg and the testing center. My only questions are will I get to 100,000 miles before a major engine meltdown and how often should I change my shocks?
Those guys working in the factory on the clay modeling and different components of the vehicle; what would that job title be, or what would someone look into if they were interested in that field. Not really the engineer designing the part, but the persons that make the actual prototype components. Thanks
In German they called "Modellbauer "
The career you should study is called "transportation design"
Clay modeling is part of what you'll learn, along with advanced sketching and rendering to visualize the future of transportation.
The two best colleges in the U.S for this career and two of the best in the world are:
-Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA)
-College for Creative studies (Detroit, MI)
There are other great schools too that offer industrial design programs and then a concentration in transportation as you progress:
-Academy of Art University (San Francisco, CA)
-Cleveland Institute of Art
-University of Cincinatti
Such brilliant people everywhere
what software are they using?
Столько спецов, столько оборудования, рисуют, рисуют, один хрен примерно одно и тоже получается, фейслифтинг и все! Хотя тачки отпадные !)
This is art!!
Impressive and very nice. Too big and bold for the today roads...I still prefer a Carrera 3.0 or a SC with only 204 CV 😜 However a more timely car would be the 981 Cayman because it’s humble in size tough generous in performance! 😁
Is the dude at 1:08:35 two-feeting the pedals? I guess toe-and-heel driving is a relic of history.
Or he can use a gearbox properly ? Unfortunately "old-womens autoboxes " seem to rule the roost now.
What sounds better than a Porsche? Two Porsches. Two Porsches? Three Porsches. Three Porsches? Four Porsches....

Когда модель из глины у Порше - лучше чем любой новый ВАЗ)))))
Who can tell me why are they re building the shocks at the end of the video?
