Is great that they include a very well done hunting scene. Especially since little Nala is being taught how to hunt at the difference of Simba, who has other priorities as the next King.
Her mother Sarafina I think is the lead hunter of the lionesses Though it's hard to tell with the lighting one of the lionesses has an orange colouring, that's Sarafina
I also noticed how closely Sarabi is staying to Nala. Future Queen (though she didn't know it at the time) learning from the current Queen. I'm also trying to master these steps for part of my workout.
@@deunknowncivilization Some stages they've performed on also don't have trapdoors, and typically in the tour productions they have alternatives to parts like that (Pride Rock emerges from the wings instead of the ground, Timon gets attacked by a crocodile behind the waterfall instead of rising from the floor, etc.)
I saw The Lion King at the Paramount Theater in Seattle and this scene was my favorite out of the whole musical! This video does not do the live scene justice!
Out on the grassland, there were large herds of antelope. Unique to Africa, they are prime targets for lions. Antelope are fast runners, and run from anything that surprises them. So, getting close enough to kill one of them takes endless patience. The females hunt together, inching forward to set the trap. They were closing in on this heard for one hour, now. Gradually, they moved out with Sarabi moving wide, trying to encircle the heard. Lions are powerful killers, and are able to accelerate explosively. But they are not meant for long chases. Unless they got close, they wouldn’t stand a chance. One false move, and they would have to start all over again. Sarabi drove the heard close to the other lionesses. After choosing their target, the lionesses closed in. Antelope have outstanding maneuver capability. The victim tired to shake them, but that’s why lions hunt together. A second one brought their prey down. Surprisingly, as the lionesses fought to restrain their prey, they did not immediately go for the kill like cheetahs, or leopards. Instead, they worked together to pin down the struggling herbivore, under the weight of their bodies. Only when the prey was totally subdued, did Sarabi go for the kill.

Just have the lionesses stand on their hand legs and decapitate themselves XD But yea I do wish they put this song in the movie. It wasn’t gonna happen/didn’t happen but I could dream haha.
When I saw the traveling Broadway show several years ago, I loved how little Nala was in the background watching and learning. I’ve noticed not all of the videos I’ve seen of them doing Thai dance has that. Young Simba was also in the corner with some of the guys just watching and they were singing the men’s vocal parts.
We are doing a Lion King jr play in our school and we are gunna do this but the dance steps are a little different.... Edit from 2020: omg the nostalgia. Also why was I so cringey back then haha
i love how the other antelope dude with the staff and the curly horns just comes onstage at the end and casually watches the lionesses maul another antelope😭😭

I remembered squealing in my seat when little Nala appeared in this act. Sooo CUUUUTE!!!
I love the symbolism of the antelope 'leaving his body' and dancing away off the stage.
i never thought of it that way… that’s genius
2:12 LOL the soul of the Antelope leaving Dancing. It's so Good!
My favorite dance routine in the show. I love the head effects
Took me by surprise when they remove it to make the effect of lionesses stalking. A great production.
You mean the mask?
I remember when I first saw this musical and from that point on, I always wanted to be one of those dancers

As far as I know, the leader of the lion pride doesn't take part in hunting. He just arrives and eats (maybe I am mistaken) :-)
@@lilu_multipass_5thelement_1995 you mean Mufasa?
@@kalang6621 I mean all male lions living in wild nature with lots of lionesses (sultan be like)🤣

@@RevolErtaehtI am pretty sure the one next and closes to Nala is Sarafina
I love the fact they’re all showing Nala how to hunt…and that lionesses seem like a tight-knit group that hunt and stay together.
Such powerful female energy. So beautiful!
Heather Little This is the right kind of female energy we need! It gives a sort kind of authority image to these lionesses!
I agreed it was amazing dancing and beautiful ❤️❤️
Gotta give credit to Garth Fagan for… coming up with such amazing work for the Lion King.
Young Nala was so on beat with all the adult actresses/actors, it gave me literal chills.😭👏🏽
Love when the took the headdresses off dance is great I saw it twice I was amazed both times
Who else thinks this song would've been an amazing addition to the original movie
with an epic documentary prey chase
Those costumes are so beautiful
I honestly didnt notice little Nala in the video until the video was almost over 😂
This scene was truly great to watch at the Van Weezel. One of the best scenes in the preformence
I also noticed how closely Sarabi is staying to Nala. Future Queen (though she didn't know it at the time) learning from the current Queen. I'm also trying to master these steps for part of my workout.
I never noticed the person who had the gazelles dance away. I always thought they had a door that opened and they went down
It was like that in the beginning stages of the lion king but later on in the years they took that out and added that instead

I saw it back in 2004 and this one scene is the one that I still remember the most fondly! So simple yet so powerful!
Wow that's was beautiful performance and they got so much energy dancing on stage💖💖👍

Mala and her twelve lioness are dancing in the stage

The last part of this scene is terrifying.

I was confused as to how one of the lionesses got an antelope's head, until it hit me: The antelope props can be disassembled
