hey dude. just wanted to say, I've always thought it was so messed up that neither quackity or dream released that mod to the entire minecraft community. even now after both ideas have flopped they still haven't. what you're doing is a great service to the community and all of gaming as a whole. thank you
To be honest with you, it's completely understandable to me that they both never released it publicly. Since both the translation _and_ transcription APIs were so expensive just for the QSMP alone, it would have cost a *lot* more to make it public. Now, in theory, you _could_ argue that they could have made it so the API keys were separated so the users had to pay for it themselves, however, many players expect mods to just work right out of the box, they usually don't expect to have to do additional setup. It's a hard road that I just didn't want to deal with when creating UnityTranslate, so I followed a general rule of "make sure everything can just work out of the box, while everything else is still configurable". Additionally, I'm pretty sure the QSMP wanted to make the live translation mod _their_ thing, whereas Dream just gave up because of the whole "Quackity did it first" argument stuff, and things like that. Things just felt like a whole exclusivity thing, and I just wanted to avoid that entirely. Multiple of the same thing _can_ coexist, after all.
Even with the QSMP disaster, i believe we all can agree what they delivered was something special. I'm not talking about lore, server or whatever, but the chance we had to know more creators, more people, even if they didn't spoke x or y language was pretty cool. I for example, never thought that i would find brazilians and mexicans streamers that i genuinely like, maybe even more than the streamers i used to watch. And it's not only that, i don't think people quite realize how huge this is. This is not only great or awesome, this goes even beyond that. Just imagine how much people will be interested in another languages (and how this could help them to learn), how much people will be interested in another culture, any cultural pre conceptions could also be easily broken with no language barriers, and this is just some examples. I can't wait to see how the minecraft future will be, what you just did is insane. Just don't let your ego grown way too big to be on the way of things.
@ItsOnlyMe360 Actually, it is (Simple Voice Chat has a plugin form), but the Bukkit platform would be VERY difficult for me to get working with the current codebase.

i remember doing the same thing searching for the live translation mod when i saw it on a stream and found nothing. BUT YOU DID IT! Thank you for this huge contribution, aiding to bring communities together.
Okay I will put the obvious SMP concept here. You limit the translator and make speaking languages powerful. You can get items that translate for like 30 or 10 or maybe just 5 seconds. Then you make it only work for certain languages or one way and you can get those items by getting a shell item (can’t be multiple possibilities unless you want text and voice to be options (could be a book and a sculk item)) and you can charge it by doing a vocabulary and grammar test. The better you do the more it charges or the better the message is. You should also not be able to do many tests quickly. You could make a translation zone. It would be a competitive SMP but you could change the competitiveness. I think doing something with the translation in that way would be very cool. I also have this really cinematic scene in mind where someone pieces together that two people are talking about a trap right in his face but in a different language. He then realises someone is invisible behind him and he crits him with a sword and gets blocks or something and runs. You see the guy piece a Spanish or French message together because he knows french a little and it’s similar to spanish so he can use a fundamental language skill to understand more. I am in that language position so I can’t really imagine other language positions right now I think or it’s harder or I just do my position more. Please tell me you monetise this at least a little. Modding in Minecraft on its own isn’t really that profitable. 9:43 It says „trop“ in french but I don’t know a word you could translate to „too“ in French but I am not learning it from English. I guess that was a perfect translation. I have one great idea which would make this way more interesting (but not in a technical way but in a fun and game design way). It took 40 minutes to watch the video and write some of the comment and then add the top idea part.
This sounds very interesting honestly, I like that idea I get ad revenue via CurseForge and Modrinth, which isn't a lot but I'll take it, and I also accept any donations via Ko-fi if anyone wants to donate, but other than that I really don't want to lock UnityTranslate's access behind anything

Honestly, this is amazing. Imagine this with a AI text to speech where everyone is able to program their own voice. I wish I could code better, but my brain just doesn't allow it at the moment. This is also why open-source is extremely important. It allows things that wouldn't be able to be done in a for-profit situation.
Just simply for making this mod for a passion project you deserve the utmost respect and if people ever say something else... these people dont know anything... also this mod literally allows people to break a barrier that was formerly hard to break very easily you are THE GOAT

This is such an amazing project, I've already seen the mod in use on a few servers that I watch / play, You've made something truly incredible here and I can't wait to see what comes next! 💖
You don't know how excited I got when I was watching this video because if this mod functions half as well as shown in the video this is HUGE. It's insane that you as a singular person managed to come up with the solution of finding and using the free API and then also coded the entire thing - I have massive respect for that! And you can see that the people using it for the first time in your video appreciate it so much, too. I love the wonder and excitement in the content creators' eyes when the mod is unveiled, it's just so beautiful to watch... (Is there any collective channel for watching Unity Multiplayer? Because now I really want to see more of these people.) This mod might genuinely change the meta in the Minecraft community and finally give everyone access to a tool to overcome language barriers... It has the potential to become a staple in a certain branch of modded Minecraft. I may or may not have recommended looking into this mod to a larger creator and I truly hope that we see it make an appearance in the public eye so that as many people as possible get to know about it.

Unfortunately, there is currently no collective channel for watching Unity MP, however on the community Discord server ( discord.gg/ECGejX4WFA ), there exists a role that allows you to get pinged whenever a creator on the server is currently live.
I am actually currently trying to get the mod to work in older versions of Minecraft (1.19.2 and planning to go as far back as 1.16.5), however with little to no success so don't expect too much yet
I played with Theo for a week or two on a server when the server stopped a few of the group members kept in touch but Theo was declining every time now I know why and if we have been kinda hostile I will take this moment to apologize great work to all of the unity staff great work :)
