One of my favorite things, a road trip in a Corvette! You guys looked like Buzz and Todd. :) I have a C5 now but have had two C4's, a '93 auto and a really nice '96 LT4 CE. While the C5 is a much nicer and better car all around, I have been wanting another C4 automatic as a cruiser for easy drives. Looking forward to your impressions of this car.
::google's Buzz and Todd:: hahaha...never heard of it, but looked it up...man, I'll have to do something in tribute to that Route 66 show...maybe when KnightDriveTV gets a C3!
I love this style of Vette. I know, many people were disappointed in this look, but I think they are cool looking, and fun to drive. OWNING a Vette has always been a dream of mine.
Actually bought a C4 1984 corvette as my first car very recently. This video really motivated to start driving her a lot more and treating her like she should, LIKE AN 80's VAPOR RETRO MACHINE!!
Was a very nice and relaxing video to watch. Felt like I was there with you guys along the way. Awesome message at the end also. Thanks for the videos.
_The fourth gen Corvette when new was ahead of its time! And yes, everyone wanted one. And yes, back in '84 they were expensive. By the end of the model run, the horsepower had increased by more than 50%, along with the MSRP! Was it worth it? Heck yeah! Beautiful scenic road trip for sure. (That said, looking forward to your next C4 vlog)._
All my vids are full PG. If anyone ever slips during shooting, I blank it out in edit but generally speaking, we are not the bad language types. Thanks for watching
Early C4's are definitely on a small rise. The dash and low price that's too cheap to ignore is causing some upspike a little. Seeing 30k mile early C4's for under 10k bucks...only so much you can hate on early C4's until they're just too cheap to ignore. 4500 for a clean corvette like the one I picked up here...yeah, it's not necessarily fast or anything, but it's still a mega fun car; it's a Corvette; handles good, etc. Just can't be beat.
I'm old-school. Give me a well-developed analog car, one in which I actually have to master its quirks and behavior near the limit. That's a big part of how I bond with a car. My choice, partly dictated by budget constraints, is a 1988 C4 manual coupe that I'm thoroughly (and I mean THOROUGHLY) refurbishing at this time. It's going to be essentially stock, other than some chassis braces, new dash display colors, elimination of the passenger side dash 'bread box', a MOMO steering wheel, and some other little details. Oddly enough, I live in Tacoma and, like you, I also found my red/black C4 right here in Washington. I think it's helpful to think of the L98/TPI engine as a SBC that is tuned to act like a BBC. It actually has a fairly wide powerband from about 1500 RPM to 4500 RPM - just right for public roads. If you can accept that characteristic, the stock car is a perfectly fine vintage Corvette with plenty of performance in that environment.
I agree with you 100%...comparison is the thief of joy. If I compare the 84 C4 to my Z06 or our C6 LS3 car...sure it's underpowered and less capable in ways. If I just look at the car for what it is though, then add the fact it has a vintage analog to digital transition flavor, plus a design that is looking unique to the eye these days; I love the car. All my prior C4's were LT1 cars but this time I wanted to specifically get "the worst" C4 by online standards and I don't regret it a bit. I have a lot of fun driving it. It's not the most powerful car, but it handles great with the Z51 suspension, and has quick steering even compared to my C5Z...I enjoy it.
Replace the coolant temp sensor just below the thermostat with the newer style, that'll take care of the cold start issue of running rough till it warms up..
I enjoyed the drive through Oregon, wish I had a whole week to drive OR and WA. Thanks for sharing. C4 Corvette is one of my favorite American designed cars.
Ah...the liquid sunshine of coastal Oregon. Another Goonies shot. And you made it through my old stomping grounds. Beautiful shots of the Columbia river as well. Gorgeous drive. We live in a beautiful country brother.
Liquid sunshine....so that's the spin ya'll put on it...lol. I need to tell that one to my Pa folks...haha. Yeah, no question...some absolutely epic scenery and locations just here in the US. When I was young, I'd hear of people going to England and Italy...I always said, "I'm not going anywhere until I see ever state and corridor of my own country"...I'm close! Just need a Corvette trip to Alaska is all...lol.
@@KnightDriveTV I found a black one with 60k miles that was a little cheaper than my LT4 when I was looking. But having to wrench and maintain that LT5 was a bit more daunting than the Pushrod LT1 based Grand Sport engine. Plus my car Dynos close to 330HP at the wheel bone stock, so pretty close to a ZR1.
You had to wear a mask on the the deck of the boat? Say the dash lights work well, that's a great plus, enjoy it. Beautiful landscape in Lunn, Nevada; Gods handwork, yes we are blessed.
That was early in this bs deal. Washington was very strict...we didnt want to cause any problems I guess, I think we were more sidetracked by the boat rippin and the choppy waters. We arent people with sea legs...lol
@@KnightDriveTV Thank you for the reply, yes pray it ends soon. looked like you guys enjoyed the trip, wow those views were fantastic. Great luck w/ the c-4!
Yeah, c4 pricea are starting to heavily overlap base C5's and the C5 is just a far better car if you have to choose where to spend your money. Lucky for me I have the C5Z...I just wanted to experience C4 again, on the cheap...lol.
You ain't kiddin! We have all the paperwork and Lace was tellin me about the Bose. WOW...talk about loot! So many interesting quirks of these cars, man...it's like throwback. That's why I wanted an old one. You know your C4's!
Well the little black book knows more than I do... My favorites are the late 60s options: whole car -3200$ "special engine"-3000$. Your thinking sledgehammer clone on this one right? Really tear some hearts out with 800hp c4.
Man those wipers! Ha! How did you not spring for some new rubbers on those. I’d have found the first auto parts joint in WA. Cool video man. One of my bucket list road trips. Can’t wait for the C5 rebuild video!
Gotta get my moneys worth outa this baby...plus, in vegas we dont need wipers...theyd just dry rot off...lol. thanks for watchin! Lookin to make some C4 content ahead, along with the other Corvettes
Great video my man. Many blessings and good corvette vibes from up here in Canada 🇨🇦 When I get mine up and running I would love to take that same trip.. looks incredible. Cheers buddy
One of the most memorable drives of my life was hwy 93 in Nevada. Drove it at night, didnt see another car for about 3 hrs at one point. Stopped about 4am, could see the entire miky way. Woke up 630am to a blizzard!

Very nice congrats on the new to you car, i drive a truck as a daily if i didnt need the truck for work i would buy a C4 for sure, wheels and a drop and your are set
Interestingly, the Z51 C4's just don't sit as 4x4 high as the C5 and C6 does. C4 actually sits pretty aggressive versus newer Corvettes, which I definitely like.
Good video man. My neighbor who owns a C7 told me to go for C5 and above because I am too big (6’2” and 250) for the C4 according to him. You confirmed the narrowness with your C4 to C5 impression video. But I do like the C4 for the cool value it has like the hood opens so wide you can see the tires. I don’t remember the body kit name but I saw an awesome body kit on a C4 Z51 which made it even more appealing. I have still yet to take a ride in a C5 or any Corvette for that matter. But my eye keeps going back to the C5 for some reason. Keep up the content man.
C5 is really a great platform...really well executed coming from C4's...the corvette guys did a heck of a job on the limited budget GM allowed then...very impressive.
I'm 6'4 280lb and I fit ok in my 85 corvette, my knees just barely cause interference with bottom of dash but you are not as big as I am so you will probably fit fine, just fyi
6'7' 270 pounds is Lyle, at C&S corvette, he has little trouble maneuvering in an out of the c-4s, just don't use the steering wheel as a support you will wallow out the support which is made from aluminum , very expensive to repair.
Yeah, thats for sure. I had an LT1 car. My opti was replaced and sealed but...yeah, this baby just goes through it. Our c6 has a panic attack in rain, literally. It lights up like a christmas tree. I think I have a sensor or two down low that get wet and go haywire. My c5z used to blow out turn signal and drl bulbs like no tomorrow in rain, until I changed the housings. @@KnightDriveTV Sounds good I'll keep an eye out, I was particularly interested in the 1984 Corssfire, glad it did so well on the trip, love to take my 1984 down to the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green one of these days. Thanks Again.
Great video, I’ve been subscribed for a while and I talked to you before! I bought a 2004 C5 Commemorative Edition w/40k miles. Love it, not a mark! I’m now looking at a 1985 C4 with 60k miles, looks nice, everything works, need paint correction, I think I can get it for approximately $6500.00. I haven’t started negotiations yet, what do you think. I also have a C7 that I really love!
Sounds like a nice deal. Nothin like that 04 commemorative car. We are thinkin c7Z06 next as well. 6500 bucks for a 60k mile car...if you dont buy it, tell me where cause I want it...lol
This cluster is a little sunburnt, so replacing the film could become necessary. For now, the car is in a holding pattern. I absolutely have to move toward something different, drivetrain wise. I'm considering options from V6 turbo build to Model S Tesla swap...something different is what I'm after, and anything out there will outperform the crossfire.
I was curious about the same exact thing. Those 84's they claimed were harsh and customers complained. Frankly...I don't see it. I in-fact love the setup and the speed of the steering. My Z06 has higher spring rates, so for me, the Z51 is plush honestly. I have another C4 video coming ahead soon. Lots more on this car, it's just been waiting for it's time.
I've actually bought many, many cars out of state. 95% of the time I've been able to have all the documents in-hand, I insure it in my name and then ask the seller to drive home on their plate. In a few instances, sellers have not agreed, at which point I brought a plate of my own a time or two. In other instances, I've been able to get an "in transit" tag. Some states make that process simple...downloadable, print, etc. Some states make that complicated. With this car, I just drove away on his plate...no problem
Hey! I’m curious!! I am really thinking about investing in a corvette 1990 -96, did any issues come across driving for so long? I plan to drive for 8hrs a few times during the year to visit friends but I’m not sure if I can rely on the age on a far trip. - is it also comfy during a road trip to drive ? - thanks so much!!
Finding an older C4 can be very reliable and easy to own, but as with all cars of that vintage, problems can happen any time. Its a risk you have to want to take. Buying from someone who has had the car a while and knows its history and maintenance goes a long way. Also, buying a car that gets driven, versus sitting long stints, is preferable. Comfort to me vs someone else can be debatable, but I find them very adequate in legroom and seat comfort, though headroom for me is tight. Check my other C4 video with my white one. In that video, we went San Diego to Pittsburgh...its a story with old footage but, may help motivate you. Thanks for watching!
@@KnightDriveTV thank you so much for replying fast and w lots of info! - Hm that makes sense about driving it out rather than sitting out. The car looked in very good condition almost new for its age, which surprised me including the km on it. I was just worried about it getting me stuck in the middle of no where since I’m not sure if people used them for show mainly or to drive that long. I also don’t expect people today to drive their Ferrari’s for 8hrs for a holiday. 😅 - I hope it helps my father is a engineer, I heard these r also easier to maintain, I think for the prices they give today for these beauties is a bargain. I’ll check out ur vid! Thanks again!
I went to SEMA nearly every year and the cost of that was part of the deal. Additionally, I'd blanketed the eastern side of the country, not just interstates but various corridors and locations. I'd not explored the west nearly as much and wanted a location to start from. Vegas really is quite an incredible place to live though, I must say. From the tourist side, you wouldn't think so but so much outdoor beauty, recreation and things here. Great place to be..I tell ya.
KnightDriveTV yea, i used to live in Arizona and would make trips to Vegas every yr. sometime multiple times a yr cuz of the only 5 hour drive. But now I’m in Missouri cuz of school
@@KnightDriveTV_With being a former Nevadan, I couldn't agree with you more. Although living in Vegas would be a dream come true, I did reside in Northern Nevada for five years in the 80s. (Ironically, my first experience driving a brand new 1984 Corvette happened in Reno, the summer of '84. Fast forward to 2021, and seven C4s later, I still drive one! A clean '96 Corvette convertible)._
140k...very nice surprisingly. I have seen 70k mile ones in much worse shape. This car was driven but had a binder of documentation on maintenance, replacement stuff, repaint, etc. A lot of money put back into it over the yrs. Ended up being pretty damn clean overall.
@@KnightDriveTV that car looks super clean for 140k and driven so it had maintenance. Mine has 50k and sat in barn for years so who knows what will happen. I fair weather drive mine.
Hey Damian I remember you saying that you like the C4. I found this video and if you haven't seen it you might find it interesting. Sooooo is your fixed headlights sort being something like this? I'm still waiting for to see them so I can put all three side by side to make my decision. Any idea how long until we see a prototype? I mean come on its been 2 seconds since the rounds came out.😊 Anyhow here's the video: ruclips.net/video/M4w2wK6DkN4/видео.html Take care and stay healthy. Marty
Certain pockets of certain C4's are definitely on the rise, while some C4 values are falling. The early C4's, in clean condition, are hitting that mark where they just bottomed out entirely. Clean examples are rising but in certain demand markets...cali, miami, etc. Its niche but there are definite moves with certain C4's...early cars, manual gearbox and low miles...definitely

@@KnightDriveTV cool. I'm trying to get a C4 the next state over. Thanks for the quick response!
Just curious what made you move from Atlanta to Vegas?
How many miles on the 84' C4 when purchased?
140k...very nice surprisingly. I have seen 70k mile ones in much worse shape. This car was driven but had a binder of documentation on maintenance, replacement stuff, repaint, etc. A lot of money put back into it over the yrs. Ended up being pretty damn clean overall.
@@KnightDriveTV that car looks super clean for 140k and driven so it had maintenance. Mine has 50k and sat in barn for years so who knows what will happen. I fair weather drive mine.
I have a 84' C4 with 87,000 miles you have get for $5000
Manual or auto?

@@jameswest3075 where are you located man??
Leave behind the ocean, trees, rain, bugs, mold and shrooms. Get back to a comfortable dry desert climate and get to work on the vette!
Lots of work ahead...man..whew...
Marty
That c4 is a bit much for my taste. Watch out for a body man with a dream...lol. I have my own visions ahead...just gotta work our way there.
👍👍👍👍👁👁👍
Values are certainly not "going up" in the NW where I am. Dime a dozen for the ugly duckling all day.
I bet u drive a Honda
@@solidbreed9767 I have 4 c5's actually lover but buck up, maybe someday you can afford one of your own. Cheers.
