    His pension will be roughly 50% of his former salary. This will be a hard adjustment unless they are currently living on half of his salary currently.

    Hey so ive just been learning about you and recently just been starting to take the future seriously I wish I had started earlier but here is my situation I have no debt except a mortgage of 290k I have 120k in investments I have 110k in savings and 18k set aside for emergency any advice or help would be appreciated

    He must be a very high ranking officer making that much. He also probably will have some time of disability pay to tack on as well. But yeah no way he's not doing something for money when he gets out. Maybe something part time will be good.

    Dave, let the man retire and enjoy time with his family and hobbies. Not everyone is a workaholic.

    Should be fairly simple to accomplish in my opinion. The kid will be in school full time. They can both work full time. I can’t see the husband just wanting to sit on his hands for the rest of his life. Almost sounds to me like she just wants to be in charge and that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

      I don't think she wants to be in charge, she just wants to live her dream of raising and training horses. She can't do that while being a stay-at-home mom, so she wants her husband to take over for her at home, at that cost of a huge reduction in income, while she realizes her very expensive and very time-consuming dream. A recipe for disaster it definitely is.
