The Safariland holster is a true Duty / Combat holster, specifically designed to make it difficult for an assailant to grab your sidearm from you during close-quarters grappling, etc. It's not really intended for use in speed oriented competition style pistol craft.
The Safariland holster is also renowned for its rugged durability... it's a lot more rugged, durable, and harder to defeat than most other holster systems commercially available today.
    Good things! 👍

It's really the standard for a duty oriented retention holster. Been using them since the 90s. Every time I strayed looking for better, I came back. Thirty years, haven't found better yet. Maybe it's out there😅

The Safariland is definitely not a competition holster, for 3 gun, I use a Weber Tactical gamer holster that has the same hood as the Tier 1 but no other active retention and for USPSA, I use their open top, the light gets removed for those competitions. For more “tactical” stuff, use the Safariland. If you need the nub to be bigger, you can use the “nub mod”. The bonus on the Safariland with Staccatos is that with minimal practice, the deactivation of the nub puts your thumb in the right spot to automatically disengage the safety during the draw. My draws are almost as fast out of the Safariland as my 3 gun holster.

I love Tier 1 Concealed's Slim IWB. I have one for my G43x with the Core Essentials belt and I literally forget I'm carrying. It took wearing it a few days and lots of adjustments to get it perfect, but once you get the ride height and angle correct, it's super comfortable, even getting in and out of the car is easy.

Good video as usual! I only have OWB with Safariland so can’t speak for Tier 1 but they are definitely a well regarded brand so I can only assume from what you say and what I’ve seen they make good stuff. In this case, for competition and or range shooting, I’d have to agree. Having adjustable retention is preferable to all the Safariland has going on. The different levels of retention Safariland offers is really geared toward Law enforcement and Military applications in that one of the most important aspects of a duty holster is to prevent your weapon from being taken in a hands on struggle.

I highly recommend the nub mod for the ALS. Game changer for sure

Yeah that push forward never felt right for me i even added grip tape on it because I wouldn’t be able to push it forward if I didn’t have a good thumb placement. The tape helped with that.
    I think ima give tier1 a shot. 👏

I have had issues with ALS with timed drills. I prefer GLS Safariland because you don’t have to do anything extra to unlock.

I’ve never had issues with the ALS. I had some catches when I first started training with it, but I’ve pulled my gun under stress and never got caught up.
The ALS is designed to work in conjunction with the SLS. You push down and forward on the SLS and if you are in position, your thumb will fall on the ALS and disengage it without you having to think about it.
Then you fully grip your pistol and draw, the natural tendency to go backwards with the thumb will help push the ALS down as you draw.
But the Safariland holster is designed for duty use. The main requirement is that the holster not release the weapon unless the locks are disabled, and that the locks be hard to disable from out of position. Typically, you could pick a person up by the handle of the weapon on a Safariland.
A competition holster just needs to hold the weapon securely while you move. Different design metrics.

Yeah I mean it’s kinda apples vs oranges here. I agree that ALS/SLS is definitely harder to draw out of but it’s also a WAY more secure system. Certainly was not designed with competition in mind.

There are several better options than safariland. I prefer the alien gear rapid force duty holster myself. Above all, I’m just happy to see someone recognize that there are more and better options out there than just safariland for a duty holster.

Nub mod. OT defense for Safariland holsters. A fix for a design flaw for 1911/ 20ll pistol holsters. All of my Safariland holsters with Als dont properly position the thumb for automatic disengaging of the thumb safety on the draw. Nub mod fixes that. Even when you're modding to fit a gun to a holster its not designed for.
Nub mod. Learn it, live it, love it.😅

You’d be out of your mind to roll with a T1C OWB holster for any duty or hard use application. I love their holsters but for tac/duty use I’ll never consider anything besides the Safariland. I trust my life to it, and since I’ve trained with it for years I can draw without any hangups.
The competition world is its own thing. Speed trumps just about anything else. It’s important to use gear that fits your specific needs. I’d seriously caution anyone in a tactical environment to use a reliable duty rated holster, like Safariland, and not a Tier 1.
