The GUI is top notch as is the EQ, but there is a big problem applying it to speech. Bloom boosts and attenuates where you would expect it to, but the amounts that it is boosting and attenuating are way off. For instance, it doesn't attenuate anywhere near enough in the lows which results in the mud remaining and it is boosting around 1k way too much on a file that I was using for testing. The boosting around 1k results in a nasaly sound. Given that there are no presets for speech, I'm wondering if it isn't intended for speech?

I've used both and I can get satisfying results a lot faster with Gullfoss. It's also somewhat more true to the source to my ears, but that may be just because of how I tweak them. Try it and check your results. Some really shitty sounding recordings might need an extra layer of frequency removal. You could use Soothe to focus in on one or two frequencies that Bloom is not cleaning up to your liking. Think of Bloom at the macro level and Soothe at the micro level. May not sound as fresh, but, hey, it's a shitty recording! Or, you could re-record. It won't have the same feel as the original, but in five years, you'll never know the difference.

I agree it’s expensive (probably too expensive) but I’ve tested it quite extensively and I have to say the squash function and the way it works WITH the tonal shaping is what makes this unique. I’m not exactly sure how it all works but you can tell every single component works together in harmony. I have gulfoss, ozone etc too but I believe it’s fair that if you offer something unique to the market you can set yourself apart price wise too. In this case, it sounds unique & that squash function mannnnn. Anyways, I’m also trying to make myself feel better about spending over 300 CAD on this 😂 but I truly love what this thing does.

  • @ronmoes42

It seems like a great plugin, though still now i think Sooth is the most unique and the one I would buy. I kinda miss something in Bloom, it has all the features of Sooth but with some I normally would use another for.... forinstance the multiband compression. What I am missing is a real analog warmth processor in Bloom, not just EQ wise. If you take Sooth, it will get rid of all the harsh freq in the signal, that to me is a one of a kind plugin. Even waves can't do what Oeksound has done with Sooth.

Soothe is definitely not one of a kind. I recently got DSEQ3 and it's excellent at under half the price. There's also a free spectral compressor you can hear about on Au5's recent vid titled "this plugin shouldn't be free". Seriously - check it out... It's awesome.

This plugin may very well be worth the $209 price tag but the problem is many of us already have similar plugins. Soothe was different because there was nothing else like it (and it still doesn’t have any real competition) so I felt it was worth the price. I just can’t justify shelling out the $209 for something slightly different than a couple other plugins I have.

Why do people act so spoiled these days. if you don't have the money, don't buy it - if they don't sell enough for their bottom line they will drop price, otherwise why would they? That's how capitalism works. This plugin looks like it took a ridiculous amount of time and tech to make and it looks incredible. You want them to give it away for pennies out of the gate?
