"You can't pull out a lyric and talk about it sensibly without hearing it." 1. Then why does BD have a noble prize in literature?(answer because he's famous for writing lyrics as he has never produced literature to speak of) 2. Try pulling leonard C lyrics from their music and they will hold up because there musicality is inherent in the verse (poetry) which is WHAT VERSE IS. 3. F B Dylan.
Cohen: Come over to the window, my little darling, I'd like to try to read your palm. I used to think I was some kind of Gypsy boy before I let you take me home. Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began to laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again. Dylan: Sixteen years Sixteen banners united over the field Where the good shepherd grieves Desperate men, desperate women divided Spreading their wings ’neath the falling leaves Dylan reads much more like poetry.
@@Mythologos Good job ..pulling 6 lines out of thousands for your example. FYI the way if those dylan lines read like poetry they read like pretty bloody shitty poetry.
@@Mythologos Actually even this example the cohen reads far far better.....the Dylan is incredibly clunky ...The Cohen is far more subtle in it' aesthetics ...I couldn't disagree more.

I found this to be a very interesting discussion on Dylan. I just received the book as a gift and will begin reading it today.
surprisingly interesting, great and eloquent answers by Wilentz.
Lately, I’am hearing it kicked around that BD is the Shakespeare of our time not that BD is a playwright but he mirrors our generation so well.
Fantastic dialogue!
