I knew Northern Lights Purple would be on this list! I got it at release, and it's been one of my daily writers since.

I can't believe I bought the number 1 pen. I purchased the Sailor Pro gear slim in Northern Lights. It's my first gold nib!! It is totally out of my league. I live on a TWSBI Eco budget. But this pen (don't laugh) really spoke to me. I eat a lot of peanut butter sandwiches to pay for it. It is my first gold nib!! It has written some beautiful words and stories. The Northern Lights Slim really melts my heart. Thanks guys for making this world just a little bit better, and diffidently more colorful. Hope you all have a great 2023.
Please do a video on the different nibs for the pilot 912. What are the differences and uses.
I have to thank you guys. Of all the things I've gotten into in 2022, fountain pens has been one of the most enjoyable, low key, everyday joys in my life. I've come to prefer clear pens, trying different inks, and seeing them slosh around. But solid pens are also lovely. Everything about them is just a joy to behold. It's also made finally fixing my handwriting a bit of daily enjoyment, rather than something I've been putting off for years.
Anyway, happy new year. Let's write on together.

I received a Sailor 911S as a Christmas present, and test drove it against my other inked-up pens. And, as beautifully as that pen writes, I love all of my pens equally, much as I love my children. Not the same, but equally.
One of the truly magnificent things about the TWSBI Diamond 580 Iris is the way its trim coordinates with the ink sloshing around in the barrel. I love it with Pilot Iroshizuku yama budo, but it also looks stunning with a variety of blue and even green inks.

Glow in the dark fountain pens. Non-toxic inks. I just love how the fountain pen science is coming of age. High tech inks, new analogue old time looking functional fountain pens with extra soulful spirit for writing. The future is absolutely magical for us all. Thank you.
I am SOOOO excited that the iced caramel latte from BENU is returning! that pen is so dreamy. and it definitely makes me want a cup of coffee. Brian and Drew, what are your starbucks orders? Or if you don't go to starbucks, how do you drink your coffee? My starbucks order is a white chocolate mocha latte, or if i'm at home i use lots of cream and sugar. no black coffee for me!
I absolutely love my Pilot e95s, it is my go too for signatures.
I can’t think of another gold nib Pilot pen that beats the E95s on price and value alone. I have both the black and burgundy pens. Only wish there were more nib choices. Both of mine are M nibs, because the only other choice is an F.
@@sajjadhusain4146 nib choices has always been my issue with all Pilot pens. I have a few and I just want one with a broad nib so I can finally try one out.
I only have a black e95s, but like I said, I absolutely love it. It has a medium nib that writes smoother than butter.
@@infin1ty850 ..Funnily enough, greater nib choices on Pilot pens are pretty common when buying directly from Japan. In America, we’re invariably limited to what the retailer decides to stock. It really sucks. Goulet, for one, doesn’t seem to offer Broads on a lot of pens they sell. Pity, though, that the E95s actually only has the F and M nib choices, even in Japan. I’d have loved a broad or stub/italic option.
@@sajjadhusain4146 I haven't used a broad nib yet, but I may actually have one in my storage. No idea which pen it's for though, lol, will need to look over my order history.
Just looked it up and a as a fine and medium Lamy nib :(
The Iridescent Pearl is what finally got me into trying the Kaweco Sport, the color is just so good!! I also really like the new Smooth Sage, but it just doesn't have the same punch 👊💥
Also, I don't have the Vista Black (yet...??), but I love what you did with the design---it really feels like a level up from the classic Vista, like a more elegant version while still keeping the demonstrator fun!
My two favorite hot new pens of 2022 are the Benu Euphoria Rainbow Slushie, a pen that never fails to make me smile. The moment I saw it on the Goulet website, I had to have one. I finally ordered one as a Christmas present to myself, and it did not disappoint. Beautiful! In second place is the Esterbrook Camden Octoberfest, another pen that makes me happy every time I pick it up. Neither of these pens are typical of what I usually gravitate to, but they are the ones I will always associate with 2022.
For the Glo Green and Glo Purple, we need to answer a potential age-old question: Is it possible to make glow-in-the-dark fountain pen ink? Especially for the Glo Green! How awesome would that be? Not only would the pen glow in the dark, so would the ink!
Sheaffer Skrip in the past had "RC-35"which used to fluoresce under UV light, and lasted even after the color washed out. Close as I have seen until Noodler's Blue Ghost or Whiteness of the Whale, which still doesn't glow in the dark.
I agree. I would definitely buy an actual glow in the dark ink!
I have read that Noodler's Hunter (Green) Ink is fluorescent and glows under UV light. I have it in my TWSBI Glow Green pen but haven’t tried to see if it really glows…
@@tinacampbell2610 Yes. Hunter Green fluoresces green, and Empire Red fluoresces red which is why I gift it to teachers.
I picked up the Northern Lights slim immediately and I love it. Really looking forward to what 2023 brings in terms of Sailor exclusives!
BTW Got the Vista Black, now it has a Lamy Cursive nib for my hanji, and cursive writing. Love the design, and black trim.
When I discovered the Diamond 580 in Iris, I was really wanting to get one; but, groceries come first and while $80 doesn't get as much as it once did, that sure is a pretty pen. I would like to see an Eco in the Iris.
The Sailor Northern Lights was gateway drug to sparkly pens. Rachel killed it with the design. Lol
For a future Sailor exclusive, I’d love to see a Pro Gear in a creamy jade-like color, something that screams “Japan”.
I joined the Pilot Vanishing Point club this week. I can’t believe I waited so long to get one! It is so no nice and writes beautifully.
Unfortunately, I think Dragon Palace already took that place haha

Pilot Custom 912 - This is on my 2023 wishlist. I want the FA and posting nibs.
Knight to E4 - I have #19 of 500! The metal grip makes it a little front heavy compared to other Pro Gears, but it's still great.
Iced Caramel Latte - This pen is great! I also love my Cookies and Cream Milkshake version!
580 Iris - This is my favorite 580.
Northern Lights Purple - This is one of my favorite pens in my collection! Is it possible to bring back stealth green? I think the stealth purple is too dark of a purple for my preference.

Thanks that was great! Could you please do a video on best fountain pens for artists. I want to steer away from fine liners and rather get a couple of fountain pens, one with an extra fine nib and one with a broad nib for more filling shapes. I like the idea of being able to load them easily with waterproof ink. Thanks for you fab videos!!

It's cool watching this and seeing 1) which of the new pens I like (Kaweco for sure, as well as that chess-themed Sailor, surprisingly), but also 2) that the first three pens on the Honorable Mention list I've either owned in the past (Lamy 2000) or currently (Pilot Custom 823 and Vanishing Point) - not that I necessarily need confirmation of my choices, but it's nonetheless interesting/cool to see.
You guys were my first Lamy 😅 couldn’t resist that black clip, demonstrator and of course included converter! Made me finally try Lamy! Thank you
Twsbi Iris (EF) is now my everyday pen and I love it especially with Twsbi black or Pilot Iroshizuku inks

I got the slim Northern Lights Purple, and have been eyeing the orange Enduro Deco Crest too. Seems my pen tastes line up with this list pretty well

Purchased the Vista Black a couple months ago and love it!! Already have the Diamond 580 Iris on my wishlist, but might be adding a couple more here after this video
The Northern Lights Sailor is indeed a beautiful pen. I have a number of Sailors though, and was not looking for another. My favorite pen from you this year was the Franklin Christoph #31 LTD in Diamondcast with beautiful brown to white swirls. It is a beautiful pen, and that particular model is incredibly comfortable to write with, with the very ergonomic partially hooded #6 nib. A great pen-thanks.

Sailor just stopped my pen buying business with the stellar black hole fountain pen. It never been NOT inked since my purchase. Great job on the 2022 line-up fellows.

I love your videos, I even made a purchase with your company on Dec 23 as a Christmas/birthday gift to myself even though my birthday is today and I won't get my order for awhile yet. I can't wait to get my items and I plan to make another purchase next week. My next purchase will be a BENU pen.
I'm surprised that you -- and especially Drew -- made no mention of the Special Edition 2022 Dark Brown Lamy Studio. Along with the Special Edition 2021 Black Forest, they're a cool departure from the traditional Lamy Studio materials. I don't know how popular the Studio line is across your customer base, but for fans of the Studio, these two special editions were very exciting. My favorite remains the 2019 Studio Lx, but this new lacquered style is sweet.
I'd love to see the Iris in the mini! The 580 is a little heavy, plus the cap can't post. The mini is perfect and postable!

Love my Glo Green Twsbi. Guessing you guys don't sell Nahvalur because the Original Plus would have been one of my picks. Fun vac filler for under $60? Yes, please. Love my blue one.
I love, love, love the Pilot Decimo! But I want more colors!! I also love other pen companies, but the retractable mechanic, and no worries for losing or placing the cap precisely, means I reach for these more than any other (maybe I'm just lazy). I have a Vanishing Point but it was too chonky for my hand. I would like more FUN colors in the Decimo, not just the existing Regency-looking pastels. That's my 2023 wish.

Amusingly, you spotlighting the 580 Iris in a pencast inspired me to buy the VAC700R Iris. I love the rainbow accent and the 580 Iris is high on my want list. I'm just struggling to decide what nib I want.

I like the transparent TWSBI 580s… But all the greatest fountain pens are beautiful as long as they are black. Pilots, Sailors, Lamy 2000, etc.
I really wish that I had known that the Sailor "Stealth" was going to become a theme... I didn't love the Green... but I 100% want it to have the "complete set"
The iced caramel latte Benu euphoria and the Diamond 580 Iris are my two favorites on this list.
I got a few of these! The Kaweco Sport Iridescent Pearl and the TWSBI 580 Iris.
A stealth yellow would be a great addition. Just saying.

I second that first agreement! {grin} I had absolutely NO interest in ANY of the Kaweco Sport fountain pens until I saw the AL Sport in iguana green. I bought it and I LOVE that pen and use it daily!
I remember years and years ago working with copper or brass and when the metals got hot they made those colors like the twsbi iris

Hi I'm looking for a fountain pen with a clear window to see the level of ink , hygroscopic texture and a cap who doesn't unscrew, my first option was visconti crystal dream but is very expensive any other suggestions?

The 'knight' in chess reresented by horse is just for contrast. On old chess boards the knight is a knight and later it became a knight on a horse and now we just have the horse.

The Sailor Pro Gear Northern Lights has a Zoom NIB, and Zoom is not listed in your terminology page. Could you explain this NIB? Thanks.
A Sailor Zoom nib can produce three different line widths, depending on the angle of the pen.
I hope Kaweco does something as special as the Iridescent Pearl pen this year. It was my first pen and honestly after it im not really interested in plain color sports.
I looove the TWSBI Iris but my rheumatoid arthritis hands makes it uncomfortable to use. I'm holding on for them to do that effect in the TWSBI mini.

Early comment. The hottest pens of the year for me were the Aurora 88 Matera and the Aurora Ambienti Tundra. Luckily, I managed to buy both of them. Couldn’t be happier about it.
Very curious about how you were able to suddenly offer two of the Ambienti pens at such a steeply discounted price (albeit with very limited nib choice)…Alas, now they are gone. I was seriously tempted to buy the Ambienti Jungle pen from you. Your price was surreal given the pen’s normal MSRP. Too bad I missed out.

The Sailor chess-themed pen is nearly five hundred dollars. For a pen. No thanks...As of December 28, 2022, twelve hours after this video was posted, nearly half of the Custom 912 line is out of stock at Goulet.
Brian and Drew: Why do "honourable mentions" always go next to the #1 spot? They technically didn't make the cut, so they should be mentioned at the very beginning of the video or after the #1.
