Running in Sandals? First Look at the Xero Genesis

- I picked up a pair of Xero Shoes Genesis Sandals to try some (almost) barefoot walking and running. Here are my thoughts after my first jaunt outside in them!
All in all they were a lot of fun to walk around in. I think it would take some serious adjustment to be running marathons in them, and I won't be giving up my cushioned alphaflys or streakflys any time soon, but I can see them having a place in my life.
I bought these sandals with my own money from XeroShoes.co.uk

great video, i think i will definitely buy a pair soon!
I’ve been thinking of picking a pair of these up for road runs. Just clocked up my first 1000miles in barefoot shoes most of which was trail running and it has been a very positive experience, my feet and lower legs have completely changed with muscles popping out I’ve never seen before. I guess it means I’m buying barefoot shoes forever now 😫.
Haha yeah if it works I guess it really works! I would be worried about running a marathon in them because I've had a lot of issues with shins and Achilles previously, but 1000 miles is no joke! :)
@@chrisruns4255 I used to suffer really badly with my shins before switching to barefoot shoes but completely resolved now. I did have Achilles issue also before which I couldn’t figure out, that ended up being caused by me crossing my ankles whilst I sleep oddly. The longest run so far in them was about 20miles which hurt as a large section was chunky gravel but going to start building the longer runs back up now my feet are more conditioned.
@@Paul9 Great stuff! You'll be doing ultra marathons in them in no time ;)
it's those problems that are suppoesdly solved by barefoot stuff innit?@@chrisruns4255
Excellent video review. Thank you!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I don’t do running, I just want a barefoot sandal to walk around in. Everyday stompers. These look good. Cool video. 👍🏾
Keep believing in Jesus. He and all his Disciples wore sandals just like these (leather versions) and changed the world!
@@philiplongee1149 Right on Brother 👍🏾 John 3:15-18 🙏🏾
Loved the litte product breakdown. Cool toucans too
chickens and toucans, what a mix!
Good review! These the sandals I recommend to anyone who wants to audition the idea of running in sandals because they're pretty cheap, tough, and comfortable. I wish they didn't "slap slap slap slap" so much on pavement, but that comes with the territory.
The slap can be fixed by adjusting the straps.
I love your neighbourhood .
There's a definite weirdness strolling around a village talking to yourself.
Really enjoyed this Chris 👍 I do not like slippers around the house so these look awesome for me; just some old slip on sandals currently 🤣 Lots of ways to dial in the fit which is very cool indeed 💯 Hopefully a follow up video will come soon 🤞 Interesting question is would you be able to drive in them ?
I'll have a go and let you know! (don't expect that to be in the next video though!)
@@chrisruns4255 I occasionally drive in them. Have to be careful not to catch the toe part under a pedal. Way round that for me is making sure I lift up my feet before engaging a pedal. YMMY.
That was your opportunity to solve a conundrum as old as time....... you should have asked the chicken why?
Very good review of this type of barefoot sandals. I've worn them a few times to go out quickly or around the house and they are quite comfortable. After running with them, do you still use this type of minimalism sandals or similar, or do you use another model of sandals or flip flops? I ask this question, because in my case after training, I have never used this type of footwear for running, normally use trainers. And for recover, I like to use flip flops with good arch support to relax the tiredness of the legs and foot. I would like to know about it or if you make any future video about what other type of shoes sandals or flip flops you use. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the great video. How are you getting on with them 3 months later? In your video they looked like they hand a little low below your toes and I wondered if you'd catch the sole running if it flapped.
3 months on again! sorry for delay. I did my achilles in shortly after this video haha, and its now winter so they ar in hibernation. I hope to do a few park runs in them come summer :)
@Chris Runs sorry to hear that, hope you're on the mend. I got Xero Aqua Clouds and love em.
@@tonyrabone4668 thanks! back running now and hopefully back to making videos soon too :)
Guitar is too loud but this is a good review.
I'm curious how your pacing ends up wearing these. I can't imagine you going all out in these as a marathoner. When you compete, are you wearing the usual high stack, plated racing shoes? They offer so much energy return, from what I've heard, that almost every competitive marathoner wears them.
The difference would be massive between these and what those shoes offer. Would you feel comfortable running, lets say, a 5-10k at your training paces with these or are they more "joggers" than running shoes?
walk or run, there is no jog
Thanks for the great review!
May I know the thickness of the paracord?
about 5-7mm I woudl guess
Did you size down of true to your regular running shoes ?
but did the chicken get home safely?
I think so, I reckon they have hopped over the wall a bit further down.
Pro tip Chris: The *LOUDER* your background music is, the more views and subscribers you get. I think you should crank it up even more. Don't hold back ;-)
Do you have any experience with how these compare to Earth Runners Elemental sandals? I’m trying to decide between the 2 and have never had a barefoot shoe or sandal. Thanks!
no experience of that sorry! only run/walked in these
@@chrisruns4255 ok, thank you!
Earth Runners are far more comfortable and these are much more minimalist. I got both. Earth Runners for long distance and walks in the city where I need a thicker sole and Xero Genesis for quick runs, hill climbs and near beach adventures. I've reviewed both on my channel.
Keep in mind the earthrunners adventure laces are extremely tough and takr a while to break in.
@@CptAngelADVlogs great info-thanks!
