I'm on the Ranger Team. I got everything I was promised. The huge influx of team members left the store completely out of stock for a while. I ordered most of my discs from different sites. I'm completely satisfied with the discs, the plastics are amazing. I get all the support from Lone Star and the Community I need. Their RUclips content is amazing. It was a great marketing plan on their side, I can't be mad about that. Even the Pro's are responsive and supportive. It's a great company!
That’s great to hear I’m really glad it’s been a positive experience for you, and probably for most people. Ultimately if the deal is what you want and you’re happy with it than that’s all that matters
@@dougbutabi5085not only do you know what you’re getting from the beginning, but you also get a really nice “team”discount as well as early access to new merchandise. Did you expect everything to be free?
There have been a few bad eggs who got on the Ranger team and have been very vocal about crying. The majority of the team are very happy with Lone Star. They have been very clear and open with communication if mistakes were made and explaining decisions. I, for one, and super happy with them and have gotten way more consistent having a one brand bag.
That’s a helpful perspective for sure. I’m stoked that you’re happy with it and are finding that it’s improving your game. At the end of the day, that’s all the matters
@@AndrewWoodDiscGolf This is why in the late 2000's 2007--2008 I switched to an almost all 2 brand Innova and Discraft bag well 99% 2 brand bag as I still have a #2 Upshot that was 166 grams when new in Prostyle plastic from 2005 still in my backpack. Before this I had 2--3 Lighting and a Gateway Wizard in my bag then and a few other discs, from time to time a Jr Pro/50 mold Wham-O Frisbee at 140 grams in my bag for odd shots that got covered by an odd mold of disc. The discs I did have to get more of were the Archon, Impact 172--173 grams or 173--174 grams as the 176--177 grams or 177+ grams fly like some brick putters and the lighter discs lighter then 169--170 grams any winds 5 mph or more suck for the mold, a few Star Shark around 174--176 grams for the one in bag as an approach to very long approach putter, and then a few of the Titanic in Proline plastic for the two in bag that are super obstructed putts in woods as the Jawbreaker plastic sucks for the Magnet. I just got a 172--173 for longer and 175--176 gram disc for the shortter both labeled as normally I use a slightly more worn in disc I labe the one for short and longer. I did make a mistake of getting a bunch Z Stalker discs of as an old ESP XL replacement disc that flies very similar in 2016 only a few months after the switch as I thpought that the Stalker was going to be taken off the market as was every OS disc 7--10 speed in the slot of a standard OS that is not made for top level Pro OS discs going away, with more the 7--9 speed I was looking for. To this day I only got with majority 2 brands and I like this and might someday switch to all Innova Discraft bag.
What you interpreted from what you heard is a bit off from my experience with Lone Star. They have given everything they promised. As a Ranger team member, I have received a disc each quarter, a 20% off code, a one time 50% off one order, t-shirt and a team patch. It seems that people that got upset thought they were going to receive more or they would always be able to pick their free disc. Regardless of what they do, it's tough to please everyone. I haven't experienced any "slimy" deals in the Ranger Team experience. Instead, I got to learn some new discs, I absolutely love the plastic, and I have learned some new discs and had the opportunity to throw some new shots! Probably the most valuable part as been the team itself. My interactions have been positive, everyone had been supportive and helps each other and I like being part of the team!
I've found that the people who are disgruntled are the people who didn't actually read the terms of sponsorship. It's more of an ambassador program, which is perfectly fine. They've been very clear with their communication.
their sponsorship deal is not a scam simply because they were upfront about what the sponsorship was. if you really think about it they were geniuses by accepting everyone and flooding the market with new plastic challenging the big boys to keep their guard up. I have heard from people that their discs are either really overstable or understable. they are a new company and will figure it out. it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next 5 years with them and the whole industry.
Yep that’s been my perspective as well. As long as they didn’t bait and switch anyone, we’re clear in their communication and promises and then upheld them, it’s all kosher for sure. I just wonder if they’re communication couldn’t have been better from a branding standpoint
If you got to look at the contract it breaks out what they will receive very clearly i think its like 4or 5 discs and shirt/year, a 50%off code for 1 order and an ongoing discount code. To be sub 900 rated your not going to get those kind of opportunities with prodigy or innova or discraft. And if you have kids Lonestar is one of the best they give free entry to their flexs(still give them payout) and have donated a ton to the junior programs around the Houston Texas area
As long as they are clear and the company lives up to what’s is promised that’s all anyone can ask for. Love to hear how much they invest in the youth side of the game!
It's funny these low rated chuckers are whining. Nobody else would give them anything their game is trash and not deserving of sponsorship or anything free. If they spent more time putting rather than keyboard trolling they might get better....😮
I am currently a 967 rated player that was sponsored by Lone Star. I recently decided to leave all of my sponsors to better focus on growing my relationship with the Lord. In my experience with lone star, they gave everything that was promised. I have over 200 discs from Lone Star and have tried every disc they make and every plastic they make. My favorite plastic from them is their glow plastic. After a solid year of 4+ rounds a week and tons of field work/putting practice I have concluded that their putters I really enjoy, especially the jackrabbit as a putting disc and the Benny as a thrower. The mids are really good, fairways are ok and the distance driver so did not like at all. I can throw a wraith or similar discs from other manufacturers consistently over 450 but really struggled to get that kind of distance with lone star. When I first made the switch to lone star my game suffered tremendously and understandably as I was not familiar with the discs and was constantly trying different molds and plastics. I was able to get back to my normal standard of play within the first 4 months. Then after leaving and opening my bag up, instantly I am shooting 30-50 points above my rating consistently. I think that lone star discs are really good training discs but overall I am no longer recommending them to people other than putters. As a Texan I really wanted to like these discs and denied the facts that my game suffered big time while bagging 100% lone star.
I agree with you somewhat, but I don't like the putters very much. I like the midranges a little more than any other type. I am rated near you and have just recently started switching my bag to what I like and took a long break to better myself as well with God these last 6 months. I can say that Innova or other companies have way better drivers in my opinion. My game and distance definitely struggled but it made me work harder. I did get more involved and better, but it slowed me down. In the contract it specifically said 4 discs of your choosing, and not whatever they wanted to send me, which they did anyways with the very first allotment. Lariat with team logo was cool but I would have liked to grab a putter or midrange to help with their extremely high cost of a base plastic putter of $20. They also did not say the discs would be sent to me in 4-month quarter allotments. I received the first 2 allotments and stopped caring about free because I paid around $500 for a small amount of product. I did not care about the 1 time 50% off code or discount in general because they never had what I needed and limited it to what I could use it on. I think they have an over pricing issue and contract issues. We have seen members at all of their levels leave like Kramer.
it also made me care less about reaching their tournament team due to them having a bad business and lying to people. We will see how it helps the pros and them in the future, but don't support Lonestar. Throw what you want to. 90% Lonestar bag clause is not worth it in lots of ways.
Just to admit my bias up front: I live close to Lone Star Disc, I know several people across their teams, and have done a few videos with their products already. That said, I've never been sponsored or affiliated with them per se. That said, the Lone Star Ranger team is similar to other teams like the Prodigy Street team, Discraft Underground, DD Ambassadors, etc. Also it's common for these teams to receive X-outs, factory seconds, misprints, either outright or at a discount. I just think that there was a bit of a shock that a new company that started making discs in 2020 suddenly had 600 Ranger Team slots open, and they quickly filled them. The Ranger team was just a larger team with lower minimums to get in, and lower benefits, but people can work their way up to higher profile teams with more benefits and rewards. Lastly, the vast majority of these people don't really have a social media presence, and are generally locals in different areas, playing tournaments, etc. There is a fair bit of prestige with Lone Star in Texas, and a lot of people jumped in on the chance to be a sponsored player. But as you said, I do think there were some heightened expectations by some, and from the outside this can look bad, but it seems fairly similar to what other companies do. I think this experience was new to a lot of people, possibly including some who worked at Lone Star, but I think everyone has been trying to do things on the up-and-up here.
That’s a really interesting point. Because they’re new and made a splash, they probably have garnered more attention than other companies who are doing similar things. Interesting to think through and hear feedback on for sure
@@dougbutabi5085 Probably due to the politics now in the modern era and that is really sad, this is the same reason why somebody a lower level pro just left Prodigy last year was the politics of Ron DeSantos and taking money from the state tax on stuff to fuel his campaign and the person went to join the brand in Discmania or another brand. It is the same reason why everyone in the Beyond Republican in my area that even plays discs golf will not use Legacy Discs becuse they are from California a "woke state". Lots of Beyond Republicans that played have dropped the sport of Disc Golf forever selling all stuff for cheap to only people in non "woke states" on e-Bay becuse sport came from California for most, New York with the first disc golf only event in 1974, and those are both "woke states".
Your information is a little off. People were asked if they wanted to join the Lonestar Ranger team. There was no promise of sponsorship. The agreement was if you join the team you get 1 disc per quarter and a shirt. It's not different than any other manufacturer's street teams. Lonestar has also been manufacturing discs for several years and just started sponsoring several pros and opening up the Ranger team.
Yea I get that, I hope I made it clear that I am on the outside of this looking in, just a guy who loves disc golf and found all the conversation on Reddit interesting, so though I’d share my thoughts and insight. And I agree, if you knew the agreement from the start and you agreed to it, then you don’t have any ground to stand on to complain. It’s worth looking up the Reddit threads to see what people were sharing if you haven’t seen those yet
I was encouraged to become a Ranger Team member through some very satisfied Ranger members. I realize that as an 800-ish player, I’m not going to receive the same perks as the 975 team competing at the A-tiers representing the brand. I’m the MA55 amateur who played ultimate through my college years and early professional career, and see what a great social activity and network the disc golf community is. Lone Star Discs has been a great company - still ran like a family business. Proud to be part of the LSD extended family!
Love to hear that! Ultimately I think its a pretty vocal minority that has an issue with LSD, and I'm glad to hear so many people are having a great experience
Your info is pretty spot on (at least at a few minutes in) Their discs aren’t bad, it’s just they’re decision making and sponsorships that make them feel scummy - It first started with signing nikko after getting kicked off of clash (a year ago now) - then signing Emerson Keith, who has a reputation of whining and being unsportsmanlike (not too sure abt this one) - then they signed hundreds of ~900 rated ams on this “deal” (which is mentioned in vid, this is one turned me off from them) Mad cat flight numbers are 9/5/0/2 but seems to fly more os (between thunderbird and firebird I think)
Yea 100% see that. It will be really interesting to see what their long term future looks like. I would be so curious to see their sales numbers! not that we ever will... but it would be fascinating
Gettng Sponsored by LSD has been best for me.They sponsored my 14 year old son & sent him 10 discs, shirt, bag...all for free. Nimitz, Dos XX, Lariat, Walker, Harpoon, Guadalupe, Texas Ranger are my favorites. After getting sponsored, it's saved me so much money because I quit buying hot disc of the month. It's simplified my game & gave me greater insight into my overall disc golf Game. Bravo & Glow Molds are the best blends. The entire lineup is great. The marketing from Lone Star is pure genuis as Founders, Junior & Pro Teams get convential sponsorship. My 150 Sub Giveway has plethera of Amazing LSD shots & the LSD plastic always finds chains.
Thats a really helpful perspective to bring to the conversation. Love to hear that they hooked up your son in such a big way! Thats really amazing. And I think the point about sponsorship limitations acting as a filter to help you stop buying "the hot new disc" is a really great point as well. It seems like there are a lot of people out there though who have not had as great of an experience with the sponsorship.
@JourneyDiscGolf It's a great discussion for sure. Their disc lineup is more centered around AM style discs. Blue Bonnet Putter, Texas Ranger Mid, Lariat Fairway Driver all have same flight numbers, except different speeds. The entire lineup is based on this theory. Same goes with Jackrabbit putter, Walker midrage, Chupacabra Fairway Driver (overstable), same flight numbers, just different speeds. Tons of Midranges & Fairway Drivers The sponsored pros goto Lone Star & say hey can you adjust flight on "XYZ" disc & maybe make proto version of "XYZ" disc & then your get next "Artemis" or Crockett. The "Benny" putter recently came out & it's beaded Penny Putter. I also got more distance after switching to LSD because I threw all Champion/Candy discs. The LSD plastic is much like Kastaplast or Innova Star plastc, & since the plastic is more malable, you get better flight & more distance compared to the Champion/Candy plastic that needs more of MA1/MPO/tour series Arm to get true flight. The Alpha & D line are stiffer plastic, the Glow Blend is super nice & about 10% stiffer than the bravo. My 14 year old son can throw bravo Lariat 275-300 feet. It’s crazy & he never got that distance with Innova champion leopard 3. He’s getting his 1st birdies ever & parking holes by just throwing 5 discs. He mostly throws Bravo Lariat on every drive, it’s his signature disc. It’s the simplicity that makes him consistent & great disc golfer. The AM player’s can learn a lot from my my 14 year old junior sponsored Lone Star player, he keeps it simple & that speaks volumes to consistency in disc golf. His current bag lineup; Bravo Lariat, bravo Walker, alpha BB6, glow dos XX, he putts with Armadillos, usually stiffer victor2 You can mold minimize as well since there are 3-4 blends of most discs. The Dos XX is great example & I carry every version of Dos XX & each blend serves different purpose; IE alpha Dos XX is my classic flex 2 finger overstable fairway driver. I can throw Lariat & Dos XX as far as distance drivers & you learn to disc down. 11 speed Nimitz Glow & Bravo is my only/fastest distance driver The "sponsored" players will move on or perhaps they'll parlay sponsorshop to next tier, with Infinite Disc or another Manufacturer. At the end of the day, if you throw All Innova, Discraft, Trilogy, etc....Your technically a Street Team player, throwing the brand you love & not getting anything in return. Thowing what you love is really what it's all about? So I think things will naturally work themselves out as folks will gravitate towards what they love. But make no mistake, This is also about hurt Egos as well, because some folks take DG extremely serious & I agree disc golf is Life.....At certain point you realize this is purely Business & business is about making money & clearly Lone Star disc is making money & selling plastic. Lone Star makes alot of AM friendly discs...So its makes sense they have such a big followng on Ranger Team. The marketing campain was about getting plastic in players hands, then hoping said players would come back as repeat customers & its pure marketing genuis if you ask me. Its defintely considered growing the sport. At tourney scene it's different Narrative. Lone Star players are winning tourneys, taking poduims & singing prasies about company & new skills throwing all Lone Star Plastic. Tourney Players are bragging about new Harrier, the list goes on. My 1st tourney throwing Lone Star Plastic & I almost won & lost by 1 stroke & finished 2nd place. My 2nd tourney throwing Lone Star Plastic in 'A" tier, I shot hot 1st round & made lead card 2nd round in biggest A tier in my region (Norman Pro Am), ended up cashing in that A tier as well. Lone Star Sponsored Pro Freddy Mezza won 2023 Norman Pro Am in MPO during butal heat, storms & lighting delayed tourney. He beat local hero by 1 stroke. Even Mason Ford refused to play & cited safety concerns, yet Freddy Mezza won tourney throwing all Lone Star Plastic. Norman Pro AM is a really tough tourney to win.
Ranger team benefits 50% off one order 20% off any other order 1 disc per quarter Requirements Wear the logo on the course Throw 90% LSD And be active on social media (couple post a month) And keep it positive in the public eye about LSD and Pdga
Didn't realize there was any issues with Lone Star, but I just recently started throwing a Mockingbird my friend found who doesn't play and it's actually the first disc I can consistently throw on the line I want. Seems to me to be a good company.
I think they’re a good company who just got in a little over their heads. Which is understandable when you’re pushing the envelope and trying new things. No big deal, just interesting to talk about and learn from
Great video What you say about sponsorship is very interesting. Unfortunately for amateur players like me, is that you either get rejections or no reply by many of the brands we all see a lot of. I was recently accepted by Lone Star in the Ranger Team. I was given information that I read and agreed to. This being my choice. Yes you are asked to bag a significant portion of their discs in your bag, but what sponsor would want you to bag competitors discs. They don’t force you to buy their discs; however, they do give a discount code to assist you in purchasing discs etc. I did purchase some discs and other items, which arrived yesterday. I am very happy with my discs as they fly as expected to the flight numbers. If anyone out there has unwanted Lone Star discs, they no longer want, I am happy to accept them. Free if possible but if needed I am happy to swap out some other discs from other brands that I have collected if that makes it easier.
With the amount of players on the Lone Star Discs team, we are bound to see a few bad apples. People were given a great opportunity to represent a brand while having the perks of a low level sponsorship. The issue was when a select few wanted the pro tour treatment playing ma4. The contract is very straightforward and is a great journey if you let it be just that. Lone Star Discs had to send out memos to the players that had to be written at an elementary level as that was just matching the sentiments of the complainers. All that said, they have evolved into an exceptional company that takes construct from the team at all levels and turns that into progress. The disc selection is a product of the wants and needs of everyone and is growing fast. I like how you put it at the end, if you like the community aspect of a "sponsorship" and can ignore the social media negativity, enjoy the journey! Great video!
These people might be super Asperger's Borderline light Autism with ADD quite hard who asked for this sponsorship and never read the fine print. That or the Ken/Karen type who want the pro treatment.
I picked up a harpoon in V1 plastic last year. It definitely feels nice, like a tacky hard rubber. It's pretty great for approach shots 230 ft and in for me, low profile very flat top. It basically flies straight on a pretty hard throw, low glide and fades pretty hard and sticks next to the basket without skipping because of the rubbery plastic. It does pick up dust easily though, and i noticed a bit of weird warp on the rim from hitting a tree or something. Also have a glow penny putter which is solid.
Tried out lone star after 2 flex tournaments run by The Careys. Deanne recommended the Tumbleweed and Mockingbird for my 53 yr old slow arm. Really like both when thrown flat (got them now in Alpha and Bravo) With help from several great online discounts including 70% from Black Friday, I’ve added a couple more to the bag (or testing). I’d do the Ranger team but since I’m able to value shop myself, the free discs aren’t worth it to me - also 75% of the bag is too much, 50% I could probably do. Love both Bravo and the Alpha plastic.
Lone Star existed as a disc manufacturer for 3 years before they sponsored any amateurs. In 2022, the total number of players on the sponsored team was about 150 (total including pros). The amateurs on that first team did such a good job that thousands of people applied to be on the 2023 team. To say that Lone Star did something shady by giving all these players a chance is ridiculous. If you don't like their business model, don't buy their discs. I, however, think their strategy is brilliant, and they have easily the most advanced plastics technology on the market (decades in the plastics business will do that for you). I know you're not necessarily slamming them, but I thought an opinion of someone who is very happy about the opportunity they gave me would help.
I agree with you and believe the "sponsorship" arrangement was a mix of clever and flawed decision-making. It was clever due to the cost-effective exposure gained through diverse advertising channels/social media. However, it was flawed as it seemed to create misconceptions, with many assuming the sponsorship indicated they were good players. We had a guy in our tag group who got this "sponsorship" and it immediately inflated his ego. This is where the skepticism towards the company started, because this guy wasn't even THAT GOOD. Side note: That guy mentioned receiving a one-time 50% discount and a subsequent 20% discount on all purchases. In return, they were required to promote Lone Star on their social media 3 times a week.
Yea I think the word sponsor was just all around poor word choice and misleading. Maybe brand ambassador would have been better language? The concept of build a huge team to promote their stuff was good, the execution just seemed to miss
Just popped up on my feed. Another Andrew Wood sang about a "Man of Golden Words." Communication. Subbed. I think if Lone Star starts donkey disc golf they'll get to the next orbital.
Second this. It is like a really glidey slightly more stable leopard. I would say after watching you throw point at the basket and try to throw the most baby hyzer you can almost flat.
Lone star wanted to make a splash in a very competitive market. They really did accomplish that with the “sponsorships”. They have added so many molds in such a short time. If you look and there main business they can afford to lose money on the disc golf side while increasing there exposure. The only bad publicity is not being talked about.
That’s a good point. All publicity is good publicity I guess. They really have created a lot of molds in a short time! Props to them for helping to push the game forward
I would like to try a Lone Star Disc, but as a beginner and an older person, I need lighter discs - 140-159g is what I'm currently throwing. I can get those consistently from Innova and Lat 64. Unfortunately, it looks like Lone Star website is sold out of
Try their lightweight Lima plastic. I like the Middy, though that’s a midrange. Their glow plastic is my favorite but I don’t think they’re made Under 168g.
Also you can’t throw them in hyzer and expect them to turn over. The TR and bluebonnet hold the line you put them on. Every throw you show here is on hyzer and nose up.
I wasn’t trying to create an in-depth review of the discs. Was never my goal to show off all the angles and shots possible with these discs. But yea you’re right, I always struggle with hyzer and nose up. It’s a work in progress for me.
had no clue about the controversy... Which makes me happy not to be on social media. I just throw the discs and play them based on feel and performance. Thanks, great video, subscribed!
I really enjoy throwing lone star plastic and I am a very casual not low scoring player. I love their approach of sponsoring a lot of amateur players and how that can expand the game. The problem is some of these amateur players that were sponsored think that they are somehow pros now that deserve more. Speaks more to the general entitlement problem this country is dealing with. Leaving that opinion behind... Try a couple unique molds. The dillo is kind of similar to a berg while not being quite as stupidly beefy and imo has a better shape especially for forehands. The mockingbird flies forever and is most similar to a leopard but a touch more stable and much more glide. For the big arms the madcat as displayed in this video is very cool. Its in that firebird felon raptor type disc but seems to stay in the air a touch longer without any turn.
Yea I’d love to get my hands on more of their discs. I’m curious to test their lineup and plastics. I did like the bravo but for sure gummy in the summer
My biggest issue with lonestar is actually their partner, Hooligan discs. The hooligan logo is a straight up copy of another company called hoonigan. I draw the line at blatant plagarism. I live down the road from Lonestar, but i wont ever buy a disc from them.
Yea I know hopnigan and that part is for sure a bummer. I tend to agree with you. But I would be curious to know more about their relationship and agreement before making to much of a definitive conclusion. Do they just manufacture for them? Or do they have any ownership?
Your video seems to be misinformed with shallow details. Tournament/Founders players get 40 discs a year with an amazing community. Since getting sponsored by them from the beginning, I've gained 4 other collaborations with other companies while growing a large social media presence. Definitely a continuous growing opportunity if you want it to be. 🤷🏼♀️
Faith here is good people. I have seen her grow over the past few years, and I think she would say the same of me. Lone Star gave us a great opportunity that we have used to foster growth in other ways as well. The sponsorship is what you make of it. All the people complaining on social media may find it more constructive to complain to the people actually offering that sponsorship. They may be surprised what other opportunities exist if they just go after it.
I think I was pretty upfront about that fact that I was having a conversation based around perception from the outside looking in. I’m glad you’ve had a great experience, and I have no doubt their other teams function very similar to that of all the other manufactures. But I was more focused on the Ranger Team, which is a new approach to sponsorship and marketing in the disc golf world, and seemed like it had some draw backs. I was quick to compliment lone star for trying something new and being innovative, but I also recognize they made some mistakes
I just bought two lone star discs don’t know how they’re controversial the glow are pretty US for me (the tumbleweed and mockingbird) love the glow and flights. People bitch too much about dumb shit. The plastic feels great. Moral of this story is people are butthurt having to pay for their own discs after getting a few for free! 😂 What a world. Besides that let’s play a round at Crockett sometime! Play there a lot.
As someone who is on the Ranger Team and works with the guys there at Lone Star. I can say that these guys are some of the nicest people I’ve worked with. I think people fail to realize the scope of what the ranger team is and therefore get offended. It got out of hand and the owners had to be honest with all of us in regards to the x-outs. It’s not that they’re trying to belittle us. It’s was because soooo many people were complaining and talking negatively about the company that gave them the discounts and the allotments. People need to remember that the ranger team is the “weekend warrior” team and this is still a business and have to make business decisions.
Yea that makes a lot of sense. I have no doubt they’re a great team who are trying to push the sport better. I do think though that if people misunderstood and things got out of hand it’s partly on them for not communicating and managing their team as well as they could have. But also, I get that it’s a learning process and they’re working to improve. Can’t ask for much more
Ya there probably is they are in over there head with the am sponsorship . Then they failed to deliver what they promised. It’s not the players fault they’ve changed things in the sponsorship. You seem to be tying to blame the am that got sponsored . If they would have given what they promised I don’t think it would have been a problem.
It’s hard to discern from the outside looking in because there seems to be a lot of different perspectives. But yea I’ve also heard of people feeling like they were bait and switched a little
@@bigjim4x we’ll at first it was the only thing you couldn’t use the 50% was you couldn’t get was the smack bags and snacks. Then that changed , then it changed again . Then you couldn’t use your discount code on anything but stock run stamp and non founder plastics . Also it was your 50% code you could use anytime throw the year. Then it changed that to 60 days after you became sponsored and at that time they had nothing in stock ……
I mean 95% if the team is literally just walking free advertisement and then they feel entitled to back it up and defend themselves like they aren’t getting the short end of the stick, you guys are getting straight ripped off.
I think If the terms were clear up front and they agreed, then they’re not getting ripped off it’s just the deal that works for them, but if they got bait and switched then that’s a different story. The whole thing is definitely a little strange though
@JourneyDiscGolf nobody got bait switched, people just didn't read their contracts. All of the controversy is from the ranger team players who are just ambassadors.
@ladyredbeard all those rangers are chuckers that don't deserve anything. Getting anything free was too much and then they complain? Let's see them go anywhere else and get half as much...🎉😂
Dude your info is off. Lone star never tricked or cheated anyone. You signed up for the team knowing what you were getting all along. Any one complaining is not giving the full story.
I was never affiliated associated or sponsored by lone star. A different company sent me those discs, and I follow disc golf social media. Since it was a hot topic that I found interesting, I decided to make a video on it. That’s all. And I agree with you actually, if you signed up knowing what you were getting, then it’s all good and fair
It would be relevant if you had your facts straight. There are 4 team levels. The ranger team has received everything promised. I’m on the founders team. I receive 40 discs every year. Other higher teams receive more than that. I’m just saying it’s not a scam. Maybe they didn’t like the terms 6 months later. But hey I’m just saying it’s not a scam. 😅
And I agree with you! That was a major point of mine, if you agreed to the terms, and the company has upheld the terms, then its all fair game. But clearly a lot of people either misread, didn't read or do feel like Lone Star didn't hold up their end, so it seemed worth talking about. There are long and in depth threads on reddit with pictures from the teams facebook group if you're interested in seeing more of the discussion that led to my video.
@@AndrewWoodDiscGolf I have seen them. Kind of tired of it lol. The team manager emailed everyone when there was a slight problem 2 months ago (and the problem was whether the ranger team got a “$18” disc or a “$22” disc for free) I’m tired of hearing it rehashed. Lol You did a great product review!
Lonestar is so lame lol, they make you have 90% of your bag be Lonestar and they give you one single 15% off code. Like 15% off is a complete joke we get better deals during holidays?? Never throwing a Lonestar Disc ever. Their “sponsored” players are just free walking advertisement,
You get a one time 50% off entire purchase coupon too. Got a ton great discs for a good deal while also selling off some I don’t want to get my money back.
They left them out of stock because they literally make you PAY FOR YOUR DISCS 😂
Yeah most street teams do lol@dougbutabi5085
@JourneyDiscGolf I think people tried to read more into what they were getting. I haven't seen the ranger contract so not 100% sure.
Lonestar Sucks lol everyone hates them in my area
Nailed it, Nick! You’re 100% correct & great summary.
Your info is pretty spot on (at least at a few minutes in)
Their discs aren’t bad, it’s just they’re decision making and sponsorships that make them feel scummy
- It first started with signing nikko after getting kicked off of clash (a year ago now)
- then signing Emerson Keith, who has a reputation of whining and being unsportsmanlike (not too sure abt this one)
- then they signed hundreds of ~900 rated ams on this “deal” (which is mentioned in vid, this is one turned me off from them)
Mad cat flight numbers are 9/5/0/2 but seems to fly more os (between thunderbird and firebird I think)
Yea 100% see that. It will be really interesting to see what their long term future looks like. I would be so curious to see their sales numbers! not that we ever will... but it would be fascinating
What plastic do you have your mad cat in? The bravo plastic is notably more stable in most molds.
Tons of Midranges & Fairway Drivers
The sponsored pros goto Lone Star & say hey can you adjust flight on "XYZ" disc & maybe make proto version of "XYZ" disc & then your get next "Artemis" or Crockett.
His current bag lineup; Bravo Lariat, bravo Walker, alpha BB6, glow dos XX, he putts with Armadillos, usually stiffer victor2
You can mold minimize as well since there are 3-4 blends of most discs.
The Dos XX is great example & I carry every version of Dos XX & each blend serves different purpose; IE alpha Dos XX is my classic flex 2 finger overstable fairway driver.
I can throw Lariat & Dos XX as far as distance drivers & you learn to disc down.
11 speed Nimitz Glow & Bravo is my only/fastest distance driver
The "sponsored" players will move on or perhaps they'll parlay sponsorshop to next tier, with Infinite Disc or another Manufacturer.
Ranger team benefits
50% off one order
20% off any other order
1 disc per quarter
Requirements
Wear the logo on the course
Throw 90% LSD
And be active on social media (couple post a month)
And keep it positive in the public eye about LSD and Pdga
Thanks for posting those details! It’s helpful to have the specifics.
No big deal, just interesting to talk about and learn from
Great video
What you say about sponsorship is very interesting.
Also, they have 10 different plastic types. If the ones you are throwing are too gummy, try one of the 9 other plastic options maybe.
Enjoying your content! Keep pumping it out, dont know how you dont have 25,000 subscribers
Thank you I really appreciate that! Maybe one day ill get there...
The mockingbird is phenomenal
Never thrown it but I’ll put it on the list of discs to try!
Their glow plastic is my favorite but I don’t think they’re made Under 168g.
what up local! Sharp Springs/central valley are my stomping grounds! this video honestly aged well! LOL
Love it! Nice to meet another local. lol yea it really did, especially this off season
That’s probably the healthiest approach to this whole thing!
I’m all over all disc golf social media, I’ve never heard a bad word about Lone Star disc
Love the video!
Thank you!!
I just picked up a dos x and it flies great.
Also, if you think the bravo is a bit too gummy for you, you should try the Alpha.
Welp, they parted ways.
What a world.
Besides that let’s play a round at Crockett sometime! Play there a lot.
The harpoon is god tier
Intriguing
best disc ever created!
I’ll sub for that madcat 🐈
Lets go! That mad cat is actually a sick disc
Can’t ask for much more
5:30 foot fault. (I’m kidding)
😂😂 honestly probably did though

Lone Star: The grab your bootstraps sponsorship.
I think that’s probably true of a lot of am sponsorships in the sport right now
Ya there probably is they are in over there head with the am sponsorship . Then they failed to deliver what they promised. It’s not the players fault they’ve changed things in the sponsorship. You seem to be tying to blame the am that got sponsored . If they would have given what they promised I don’t think it would have been a problem.
What did they not give that they had promised? I know at least 50+ Ranger team members and don't know 1 that didn't get what they were promised.
Crockett?
Yes indeed!
Great video and break down bud. Keep at it thanks for taking the time to make the content. Cheers mate
Their sponsorship is not a scam because its not a sponsorship. lol. I think that's the biggest misconception.
Let's see them go anywhere else and get half as much...🎉😂
Yea I think that’s probably true
Dude your info is off. Lone star never tricked or cheated anyone. You signed up for the team knowing what you were getting all along. Any one complaining is not giving the full story.
I was never affiliated associated or sponsored by lone star. A different company sent me those discs, and I follow disc golf social media. Since it was a hot topic that I found interesting, I decided to make a video on it. That’s all. And I agree with you actually, if you signed up knowing what you were getting, then it’s all good and fair
I’d take this video down, on account of how inaccurate it is.
He’s just trolling for subscribers.
Talking about a relevant and controversial topic in disc golf isn’t troll. But I’m sorry you got offended
Lol
You did a great product review!
Lonestar is so lame lol, they make you have 90% of your bag be Lonestar and they give you one single 15% off code. Like 15% off is a complete joke we get better deals during holidays?? Never throwing a Lonestar Disc ever. Their “sponsored” players are just free walking advertisement,
it's actually 20% off to be technical (for Ranger team - other teams have different agreements)
You get a one time 50% off entire purchase coupon too. Got a ton great discs for a good deal while also selling off some I don’t want to get my money back.
@@CodyTyler94 yep, forgot that part - I am on the Founders Team so I forgot some of the Ranger Team details, but I was on Ranger Team last year.
Tpu clearly don't know what you're talking about. Do some research before making a fool of yourself 😂
why do simps use the word controversial? another channel removed.
