Good exposition pastor, scripturally, humbly and graciously presented. This teaching provokes in me a deep sense of love and indebtedness to Jesus for paying the price for my once-and-for-all redemption. There is no gospel without OSAS.
Jesus is Lord God Almighty clothed in unsinful humanity and He is the author of *eternal life* to all who trust Him alone for salvation.
This means that saving repentance is realizing that you are a sinner deserving of God's just punishment in Hell and turn (repent) from whatever you trusted in before, if indeed you trusted in anything; to trusting in the person and finished work of Christ (alone) for salvation.

I grew up in a Lutheran church back in the 70s in Minneapolis, that was not exactly works based in its ministry but SO many in the congregation were works salvation type of people, that it might as well been a works based church. And then throw politics and political pride into the mess, and it was a pressure oven of pure spiritual pain. Took me years, to recover from all that pressure and the chronic depression that followed.

Growing up surrounded by works salvation type of people did not help me. I used to be very suicidle, because I felt like I could never measure up. It has become astounding to me, in just the last 2 weeks, of how absolutely mind boggling it is, that there are so many people running around on the internet Christian channels with works salvation attitudes/mind sets. And they are so relentless too, holy cow, it’s exhausting. I am doing alot better with discerning now, when the enemy is attacking me with accusations. I used just try and hide in shame and bitterness toward myself from accusations. And for years, I couldn’t tell the difference if the Lord was angry at me, or the Devil was tricking me. "Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I warn you, just as I warned you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God." WHY this writer warned believers of the danger of final apostasy, a return to Judaism, if not even apostasy can cause loss of salvation to a saved person? BTW only a saved person can apostatize. "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame." In Luke 8:13 you have answered your own question. The seed on rocky ground had no root. We are either rooted in Christ or we are not saved. These were not rooted in Christ, never saved. See Eph.3:17-19; Col.2:6&7. Hebrews 6:6 is not referring to Christians, but to Hebrews who were making the transition from Judaism into Christianity, but were now considering not taking that step. If you seriously believe this was written to Christians then you would have to say that those who backslid could never come back to Christ according to this passage. It's 'impossible for them to be renewed to repentance'. Do you honestly believe that? Please watch this video. ruclips.net/video/8ctmE5rUNJE/видео.html

The biggest flaw in the thinking of the enemies of Eternal Security is that they fail to realize just how sinful they are themselves. Their own pride and arrogance blind them. They hypocritically condemn other believers who live in unrepentant sin or backslide, failing to realize that they're just as sinful in God's eyes. If salvation can be lost, then who is righteous enough to keep their own salvation? Only a self-righteous hypocrite would claim to be sinless, holly and righteous enough to please God and earn their place in Glory. The Word of God in the Old Testament puts them to shame...
Isaiah 64:6, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
As for me I am a filthy rotten sinner deserving the pits of Hell and the ONLY righteousness I have is the Imputed Righteousness of Jesus Christ:
“And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was IMPUTED to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be IMPUTED, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead” (Romans 4:22-24).

I agree Mike. One question they never seem to be able to answer is 'At what point do you lose salvation?' And you can be sure that if they were to answer it they would say that it's at a point below where they are at :) They clearly do not understand that every Christian is equal in righteousness because our righteousness is not our own, but the righteousness of God imputed to us through Jesus Christ. Blessings.

I would like to share some things with you, as a counterpoint, from someone who no longer believes in eternal security.
Today I believe the Scriptures show how salvation can be lost, which is also consistent with what I've read about the beliefs of the early Church.
I don't condemn other professing Christians, because I am not their judge. Instead, I'm more preoccupied with worry about myself.
I don't believe that my (or anyone's) actions could ever be holy and righteous enough to "earn" or "keep" salvation, but I do believe that the actions of man are important in the salvation process. Our actions demonstrate repentance (or its lack). Also, our actions support a clean conscience (or condemn it). Good conduct is part of being right before God. Either we have the peace that comes with a clean conscience, or we're being convicted about something. If we ignore holy convictions, then that could make trouble for us. I believe this state of peace or conviction is how God intends to lead me, and so I should pay attention to that.
For me, this isn't a point of pride or arrogance, because I don't believe I'm in great standing with God or his son (my future judge). To the contrary, I struggle with sin, and so I worry greatly about eternity and my future. I don't believe I (or anyone) can really know where their soul would go until their life's journey is over.
I may have lost some (presumably false?) peace related to eternal security, but I have gained some things too. I have gained a fear of the Lord (and the coming judgment), a desire to obey and draw close to him, and a need to endure to the end. I'm far more serious now about living a holy and righteous life. Also, the testimony of Scripture is more unified and makes more sense to me than before. I see these as being good things and not bad.
I believe people are saved by faith, but I also believe faith is not just mental agreement. If we believe in the Lord Jesus, let's also believe in what he said about the coming judgment and how men ought to live. If we are really his sheep, then we will hear his voice and obey him. If we hear his words and obey them, we are building a future on him -- the solid rock. If we hear his words but do not obey, we are building our future on the shifting sand.
May the Lord bless and keep and help you along the way.

@@timf8792 Thanks for sharing Tim. And I appreciate the humble way in which you have done so. It is clear, from what you have written, that you do not have assurance of your final salvation and that the reason for this is because you are looking to your behavior to give you that assurance. The Bible teaches clearly in many verses that God not only wants to save us but also He wants us to have the assurance that we are saved (e.g. Jn.3:36; 5:24; 1 Jn.5:11-13). Furthermore, all these verses, and many more, teach clearly that this assurance comes from believing what Christ has done and is not looking to our works (see also Eph.2:8-9; Tit.3:5). An assumption many make is that when one believes in salvation by grace through faith alone that this negates works. We do not teach this. But works are to be seen as the fruit of salvation and not it's root (Tit.2:11-14). Blessings to you, Ken

I am tired of arrogant self-righteous hypocrites, religious Pharisees, who go around teaching that salvation can be lost. Let me tell you something: If salvation could be lost, then we all lost it a long time ago, because we are all guilty, dirty, rotten, hell-deserving sinners. Do you understand that?
Those who believe that salvation can be lost have a completely different mindset than the genuine born-again Christian. This is why I say confidently that the proponents of losing one's salvation are not saved. To the true believer, Christ is our only hope. In Jesus we rest completely for our righteousness, sanctification and eternal life. However, to the unbelieving person who thinks he or she can lose salvation by committing sin, they errantly think they have a key role in their own salvation.
The entire false doctrine of losing one's salvation is firmly rooted in self-righteousness. Those who believe that salvation is lost when a believer willfully sins are calling God a liar, Who PROMISED eternal life before the world began (Titus 1:2). Romans 10:13 promises salvation to whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord. There is no added stipulation that a person must abstain from willfully sinning. Jesus said in John 14:6 that He is the way, the truth and the life. The Scriptures couldn't be more clearer concerning this matter.

Context matters. Calvinism is a modern day pharisaical doctrine. "We are the chosen and everyone else is already damned." Jesus also spoke against the Pharisees for preventing others from entering the kingdom who DESIRED to enter. They prevented them because they believed they were not the "chosen." Study the character of the Pharisees and you will see that Calvinism is a false gospel, a false Jesus, and a false spirit. It is a doctrine of demons that is disguised as God, but it is not. The character of Calvinism is the character attributed to Satan in the Word of God. Cunning, deceptive, manipulative, abusive, controlling, etc. Calvinism does NOT reveal the true character of God. He is no respecter of persons! You are reading the Bible in the wrong context. The main problem, I believe, is that some people create a different gospel according to doctrine. But, clearly, the Bible teaches that doctrine must be built on the foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You are putting the cart before the horse. If doctrine seems to contradict the Gospel, it is because you are building backwards. You can't build before the foundation is laid and "set." The Gospel is the ONLY foundation you can build on. Nobody lays a foundation on top of the building (doctrine). That is foolishness. Without the stable foundation, you are building in vain.
