- Lexus was first introduced to the world at the Detroit Auto Show in 1989. The launch of Toyota's new luxury brand included a series of memorable commercials touting its refinement, quality and technological advancements, which helped make it a roaring success. Here we feature "Balance," one of the first in a series of ads that included "Ball Bearing" and "Wind Tunnel," from 1989.
The picture clarity/sound of this commercial is amazing.
Especially since it's from 1989...
@@PKMNFan4664 32 years ago. I was just 5 at the time.I remember the commercial quite well. "The Endless Pursuit Of Perfection" was a great campaign for Lexus.
@@RandallJT84 I actually wasn't even born yet, I was only born in 2000! Still though, I've always been a car enthusiast and love Lexus cars, and I'm quite disappointed the GS was discontinued...
@@PKMNFan4664 I'd love to see Lexus bring back the LS400 with the 4.0 v8 of course. It's legendary 🙌 Sad to see companies cutting their models for crossovers or new SUVS 😢 😕
2000 I turned 16 🚗😄😄

The LS400 was known as the Toyota Celsior in Japan, and won "Japan's Car of the Year" award for 1990.
The car almost 25 years later still looks fresh and modern
You either suck at math or got cursed by typos. 1989 isn't 25 years ago.
Actually more then 34 years
The Lexus TV ad that started it all! :D
Yes Ma'am!!!!!!
One of the nicest cars ever built!!!!!!
Listen to that beautiful Toyota V8 hum! Awesome!
The Relentless Pursuit Of Perfection.
I have a 1990 LS400, 258k miles and counting!
The birth of the Lexus
This car was ahead of time
Why were these early 90’s commercials so much better than today’s? These commercial made want to become a Lexus customer(and I am one). But today’s meh. Uninspiring.
Timeless design even after 30 years later... I can only imagine how modern and futuristic it felt in 1989. Toyota's crazy R&D costs definitely paid off.
This commercial reminds me of something i cant express it out. idk why :/
maybe this music has something to do with
I was wondering why there are so few of these for sale. But then again, the original buyers were probably able to keep them going for ages
i know people who have those cars for 25 years + , it's just insane how good they're
I got very lucky and picked up a 96 LS400 for 65 dollars. Yes 65. It needed a pcm. The customer at my shop did not want to fix it, so I paid the tow bill and didn't paid for my diag time. Found a computer on Ebay for 160 bucks and it's been my daily driver for almost a year.
just got one for $1000 ;)
@@nismo2070 that amazing
6-7 ownerships later some young reckless gear head will crash it dozen of times from drifting or takeover sideshows
Wow i still love the look of that LS 400, and this commercial really defined Lexus’s engineering and quality. I mean, this was the beginnings of Lexus ~~
VERYVERYgood

Who here came to see this after watching current one ??
I came here after watching Star Trek TNG.
Try balancing 15 wine glasses full of water, at 145mph, without spilling a drop 😉
LS400 only things 😂😂
The car of Harasad Mehta
It's too bad Lexus/Toyota doesn't make cars of this quality anymore, shame...........
Why do you say that? I mean I'll amit Toyota quality went down in 2007 with that Camry update. But I think the very recent 2018 Camry is well built. And Lexus doesn't seem to use cheap plastics at all.
Try LC500 and LS500
MrJimmy3459 what are u talkin about? Lexus IS majorly improving a lot better than it was before. While it remains reliability, it’s still one of the most smoothes Lexus ever on the road
@@toyotabrony I stand corrected, I recently purchased a 2011 Lexus ES350 and the quality of this vehicle is exceptional
I want the music name, i cant find it!
Me 2 looking everywhere to sample this in my beat 😂

日本人おらん
日本人参上!!
日本人参戦!!
I love how they took a still picture of champagne glasses on the hood and then distorted that picture in post production, to make shake and look like it was actually a running engine with champagne glasses on the hood, and then added engine revving sounds, all to mislead the customer into giving them money
I also love corporations and how truthful and loyal they are to us
Please do with the gear engaged and not in neutral
The gear was engaged, if it wasnt the wheels would not be spinning and the speedo would be 0.
@@mrc14_2 I'm not saying it's fake but there is no clear shot showing the wine glasses together while the wheels are moving, can't tell from the frontal shot. For all we know this could have been edited.
Even if it wasn’t faked, it’s not realistic. The car is on a dynamometer so the suspension isn’t doing anything. A real test would do the same thing while driving on a real road (and obviously the glasses would need to be inside the car).

No it isn't clownius.
Theres no way youre getting a car up to 140 ona dyno without a huge fan blowing at the grill to cool it down. FAKE
