Both systems actually have the same amount of travel. But a conventional system will not reach a full compression or expansion unless under the absolute heaviest loads. the beauty of this system is it can react to each independent situation, and fully compress or decompress when needed.
It uses electromagnetic rams..like a speaker..to actively compensate for bumps and dips and G-forces. Its better then most active suspension systems because the response time is a million times faster with electromagnetic over hydrolics
i sure hope this can spread around to all car makers....its the perfect suspension...soaks up all bumps,no body roll in turns and your car can bunny hop!..perfection!
They also show a Porsche which would have ultra-rigid suspension as it jerks around. I have an M3 and can relate to that. My car doesn't lean around curves like the Lexus but bumpy roads you feel everything. I'd love this suspension system.
Duuuude, Bose suspension is awesome! It can be adjusted to handle almost any road and it can ollie(skateboard term for jumping)!! That's EXCELLENT!!!!!LOL!
They have matched the Hydractive suspension of Citroen which can just do the same. Have a try of the Xantia, XM, C5 or C6. They should compare themselves with Citroen.
yes it's real, and a few years old, the suspension is driven by active motors instead of a passive spring/damping system. But that last clip they must have set the motors to some predetermined acceleration and timing. Practically though for hard cornering the driver would feel greater centripital force than conventional suspension, and it would probably be heavy and expensive. It would be cool to see it utilized in some racing sports though
@@doctorpanigrahi9975 would be shit in racing. you're removing an entire data point of handling. do sports cars have pillow suspension? no. also notice the ride height on that thing
Citroen does very similar suspension. may be it's not so active and fast as Bose, but at least you can buy it and enjoy it unlike Bose super suspension which you just can see in the video and can't touch.
i often dreamed about this as a child. idk if its the same thing, but i imagined some sort of sensing device (camera or sensor) in front of the wheels detecting obstructions, and then moving the suspension like hydraulics in accordance with speed and time to precompress the suspension so it rolls smoothly over the obstacle. something like this on an extreme off-road car.... drool
It's not in regular cars yet. It's not done. In those test shots, they had shiny strips on the ground for the sensors to pick up. They are still working on sensors that will actually "see" the bumps and stuff and have it work like that. And yeah, it will only be in high end cars when they do finish it.
Haha. I love their commentary too. Roughly: "We're saving the best for last. The car jumps over the obstacle! We hope that just like us, you were impressed by what you just saw."
It's true that there is no detailed technical data available. However, per the Bose website the regenerative power amplifiers used allow power flow in/out (similar to regenerative braking on a gas/elec hybrid), so the whole system uses about 1/3 the power of a typical vehicle air conditioner.
I this one is better than the latest s class airmatic suspension sytem + magic body control system.. which is already very good... but this one superb.... I would be happy to see the comparation side by side (bose suspenstion vs latest s class airmatic + magic body control)
C'est seulement un prototype, installer sur une ou deux Lexus qui appartiennent a Bose pour faire des tests. S'ils le mettent sur des voitures de producton, ca va etre sur des haut-de-gamme seulement. Cool suspension, it could solve the problems of ordinary suspension by programming it to behave like it should for optimum performance. For example, it could absorb bumps, reducing stress on the car body, while providing optimum dynamic weight shifting and tilt control in corners. Pretty Awesome!
take a close look at the second test. look at the front axel. you can see that the suspension is moving properly. same way as the other suspensions. differnce here being the car body is stable unlike the other cars. perfectly safe. the suspension is doing its job plus more
wow its so much smoother I should go check out my suspension and I'm wondering how much it would cost to buy the fuel injectors and coil springs for the struts
@smithraymond09029 No because this one has magnetic fluid inside them that gets firmer or more relaxed depending on how much current is flowing in it from how it adapts to the road.
That's really cool. I guess it must be really heavy or something, otherwise everyone would have it. I guess power consumption isn't that big a problem since it can regenerate as much as it loses, right? Maybe with electric cars or KERS system this could be an everyday thing.
@mi3pwns it is where you can select the viscosity of your ride to allow it to work with the roads bump it uses magnetic force bose is automaticly formed to all road conditions magnetic ride contrl you select the dampering there close but not the same
Well, the senros can be example in bumper, front side of the tire, some kind of system wich sees depth of ground under the bumper. From that information computer can can calculate, how much it will let move the tire in diferent ways. It can also use information of other wheels position to ground.
suspensions are part of a holistic safety system in cars. they are meant to protect the car while at the same time maintaining contact with the road and sometimes that requires a sacrifice in comfort. this type of suspension probably offers the top of the line in comfort but not safety or performance.
Excellent for all those bumps and jumps but in cornering...wouldn't it put too much strain on the tires? and not to mention lessen if not eliminate proper weight transfer much needed in high speed manouvering?
yeah but your sensor can't see in the future... when your wheel start moving up, the suspension don't know if this is a big long or small short bump, and the optimal reaction (like the damping) is different for this 2 types. But the system could have a "memory" of the last solicitation from the road, so when you arrive on a dirt path, it is first normal but then the computer learn the pattern of the road and your suspension could start getting better. Something like that ...
i don't think this is hydraulic if that's what you implied for this thing here ... it's probably induction motor (pretty much the same thing as the Tesla's induction rotational engine ... )... that's what makes it so controllable ... wicked stuff... now i have to figure out something else to make :)
Its a series of electromagnetic rams. not unlike a speaker. the difference is the response time for electromagnetics is so much faster than hydrolics that it makes active suspension viable
@thetrolle haha agreed. Not sure how that would work. Would think the police would put a stop to this or make it so that the suspension will not be able to jump over the spikes.
No doubt it is Amazing Tach, but just wondering how many Amps would those electric linear motors would draw? since BOSE did not reveal any technical data yet!
And how its done ? When the solenoids should react ? Actually, it seems, a computer using sensors trying to adjust the car to be horizontal - idea just perfect, the same as implementation, its amazing !
ruclips.net/video/3KPYIaks1UY/видео.html or in even shorter Electromagnets that concieve power from a chip that calculates in a split second how much the magnets need to recieve to counter the bounce forces, Electromagnets under electricity are more powerful as em. without. Ergo the magnets are likely all the time powered BUT receive extra juice to counter forces.
@Burkedaman wrong suspension, that's the hummer one. This one is basically an electromagnet rod inside a electromagnet cylinder and goes up and down depending on how much electricity it gets... from the computer that scans the incoming surface
14 years ago and still awesome

Wonderful technology I would love to have this on my ride.
Wonder if it could "Jump" a spike strip?
that would make police chases more interesting
looks like you wont notice when u run over someone with the bose suspension
it can be done by not run over someone
Just jump over em lol
😂😂💀😂😂
yup i definitely need it
It'll probably jump over them 😂

you mean i can do bunny hops if i get some bose suspension?????
Yep :D
Let's suggest this to Fox or Rock Shox!

Thats an awsome piece of engineering !!!! hats off to BOSE......
So you're telling me the same company that made my computer speakers is now making suspensions for automobiles? Wicked!

While conventional suspension rocks up and down, Bose suspension retains the same ride height whatever the conditions.
BOSE.... No Highs, No Lows
No, it simply adapts the ride height at superfast speeds to keep the body of the car as motionless as possible.
So thats how the taxis in Crazy Taxi jump..
