    Nothing I've ever worked on ever went this easy. It generally takes me a whole weekend and a case of beer to finish a job like this. Thanks for the upload though. Very informative vid.

    Thanks so much for this video. Just got mine installed today. Hardest part was getting the leafs to line up with the block. i had to let it down to where the leafs were just barely touching the block and then position the block so the bottom of the bolt was sitting in it and then let it down slowly and let the truck weight push the block into its home. Thanks again guys, you're the best, eh?

    Great video, saved me from replacing the entire leaf spring assembly. I'm just wondering would a grinder cut through the front clip just fine? My centre bolt is not that rusted so I think it will come off fine but I didn't realize the clip couldn't be unscrewed and I don't have a cutting torch.

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  Год назад +1

      a grinder will easily go through the clip, the only issue i've seen is when you go a little too far and cut into the main leaf.

    How would I go about adding air bags to a 2002 1500 that has a 4in lift kit? The leafs are so flat, they are almost gig backwards. You make this look so easy! It would take me about a day to do this and that's if things go right.

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  Год назад +1

      I highly doubt you could do it in a day. You will come across nothing but issues putting the air bags in.
      Some Issues you might come across:
      air bag mounting brackets are now 4" farther apart
      Have to fabricate or purchase taller mounting brackets
      Go to install them again and they might not work again
      Re-fabricate the brackets to finally work the 2nd try.
      If you want your vehicle to be stronger then purchase 2 new HD springs for the truck. With the old springs being 20 years old they are probably close to being whooped anyways.
      You can purchase new Heavy duty springs
      Part numbers are 22-1221HD or 22-1269(3/4 ton springs)
      If you want new tow package springs for that truck you can just purchase 22-1567
      OR you can get a shop to install an extra leaf in the spring pack which can just breathe new life into the rear suspension
      I usually have nothing but issues when installing either Timbrens, Air bags, Sumo Springs or anything like that on a lifted truck.
      HOWEVER, if you really want to put air bags in, you can get the side mount ones that bolt onto the side of the frame and on top of the spring, however i'd never fill the bags up more than about 50-60% of the capacity or i've had them rip the bolt heads through the frame rail on an older truck.

      @@simcoespring I will look at them in a bit. Time to upgrade/replace the front torsion bars and rear leafs. The front torsion bars are wore out after 20 years plus having a full ranch hand bumper then the rear almost going backwards. I dont tow much, but I'm sure the ride would be better with new parts. Thank you!

    Would I have to replace both sides or just broken side ?

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  2 года назад +2

      We always recommend both sides. Usually the 2nd side breaks within 3-6 months, however not everyone can afford both sides, so we leave it up to the customer.
      Great Question. Thanks

      All Chevy chassis take the same leaf springs and blocks from 1999 to 2018. However the ubolts where sometimes different lengths. 7.5" long to 9.5" long.

    Why do you have to cut the center bolt

  • @ozoneswiftak

    Do you need to make the other side of the truck the same? Or can a guy even tell if the springs are different on each side?

    • @simcoespring

      we have replaced many hundreds of leaves. It is extremely rare for the vehicle to sit crooked when you install a new leaf. maybe 1/300 vehicles.

    Is it necessary to cut the center bolt out? Like is there a reason for not loosening the bolt?

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  Год назад

      you do whatever you want to, torch it, grind it, cut it, unbolt it.
      The head of the center bolt is round, so it is a little more difficult to get it loosened off unless you have a good pair of vise grips and some heat.

    what the best rear spring for 2007 2500 Duamax truck for more weight

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  10 месяцев назад

      I didn't know that Duramax made trucks, I believe you are talking about the 2500 GMC/Chevy pickup. There are a few ways you can change the leaf springs up, you can add an extra leaf for about $750 or you can replace the springs and put in the 3500 GMC/Chevy rear springs for about twice the price, then you have all new components.

      Just filled the order. yes it is a permanent replacement. We have kits out there about 5-10 years old and still running good. It is just a more reasonable priced option to replacing the whole spring pack.

    I can't find anything about replacing the front shackle that's welded to the frame holding the leaf spring on a 2014 silverado 1500. It rotted right off on the drivers side and the only thing holding it up now is the bolt. I don't get why they make the rear replaceable but not the front. Any suggestions?

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  Год назад

      Anyone that sells aftermarket parts will tell you that it is part of the frame. they do not sell those parts.
      Anyone that is from the dealership will tell you to replace your frame for it is rotten
      A welder might be able to fix it, however it is part of your alignment and if they don't get it set just perfectly then you will have issues.
      the only one that might know anything is a frame repair place or a body shop.

      yes, the plastic pads might be worn out. You can shove some gas tank strap rubber from a semi truck between the leaves to quite them down.

    How likely is it this would fix the sag I now have on the drivers side on my 2016.

    • @simcoespring
      @simcoespring  Год назад +1

      It would only fix it if this was the actual issue, there can be a few factors that cause a vehicle to sag or lean. Most common issue is a broken leaf, check near the Ubolts as it can be broken right next to the Ubolt.
      2nd most common issue is a broken shackle, check the back of the leaf spring to see if the shackle is broken in half.
      2rd most common issue is if the hanger is ripped off the frame, this is more rare.
      However, it could be an uneven load in the vehicle. With the driver and gas tank on the left side of the vehicle make sure that the weight in the back of your vehicle isn't all on the same side. This is a common issue with tool boxes in the back of vehicle as it is easier to access from the close/driver side of the vehicle most people put all their tools and equipment on this side as well.
      Hope this helps.
