- This video is a compilation of the Austrian trilogy "SISSI-The Young Empress".
Scene 1: "Crisis in Hungary" (coronation ceremony)
The Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I takes the very young and ravashing Bavarian Princess Elisabeth to Vienna after a short and stormy curtship and marriage against his mother´s will. Sissi´s wedding is like a dream. But a shadow falls on this harmonious marriage as the authoritarian mother-in-law does her best to make the 16-year-old empress unhappy ...
she wants to keep away Sissi´s daughter.
Sisi is a great example of how a legend/dream can become entirely disconnected from the historical reality. When you read about her dispassionately, she seems cold, selfish, distant and primarily concerned with her appearance. I'm sure like all human beings she was complex and had her reasons - but the films about her are pure slush.
I have gotten used to the english version, but I have to say that the voice over dubbs are very well picked, the Emperor sounds just like I imagined him if he would be speaking english, and Sissi's voice dubb sounds like Gracy Kelly.
"Please convay to the Hungarian nation my sincere gratitude and my hearty greetings.
I'm looking forward to a journey through your beautiful country." (Sissi) :)
Splendid! I love historical period films! What a wonderful and beautiful film. Thank you!
yes it's really strange listening to sissi in english. the dubbing is terrible. romy schneider's real voice is much cuter!
I love Karlheinz Böhms true voice. And, of course, the accent! the staff from Sissi has to have this Austrian accent!
sissy was never meant to be an empress, she is too young and inexperience i so dont envy her at all.
This is not Romy Schneider speaking.. not in the least. When will they get it right.. Let them speak just german with English subtitles, much better
Prince Philipp
Im belgian and i love the sissi movies the ungarn version sounds nicer but thanks to the english version i understand what they where saying....
gosh! it's soo strange to watch this in english! i used to watch this movie at least 5 ties a week but always in german ! :D and i still love to watch it whenever it's on tv! *-* <3
I 've watched this movie when i was like 11 years old ,year 1962 and its my favorite movie.
Beautiful English! I wish I could watch the whole movie in this blessed language!
Yes, both stories are very interesting-fiction and non-fiction. Wonderful study of history and of tragic characters. In the movie Phantom of the Opera Christine's dress and hair ornaments are copied from the Empress' portrait. Thanks again.
thanks for all those great old movies.best regards rosmarie lefebvre
It’s the very first time I see a version dubbed in English. I love the French version the best, though. Having said that, Romy Schneider is lovely in any language as a matter of fact 💕 Thank you for sharing 🙏
me too! I've grown up watching these movies....christmas time was always my favorite. It's so weird to hear the dubbed voices.
That is strange since the "REAL" Sisi knew English well. She claimed to known it from her English grooms in the stables. She used English as a secret language with her sister Nene.
