You know, mr...sheaux...I can really admire your way of reviewing movies. You don't just scream and yell at the very small things, you take very in-depth and logical thoughts towards the movie, and still make it funny. I think that has to be very difficult for you to pull off and I really do respect how you do it. You are seriously a very under-appreciated online reviewer who needs more attention.

But now that I'm older, I actually like this movie (no matter it's flaws) and I actually am one of those people who want a reboot as well. Also, I'm kinda surprised that Ramsley was actually a racist and was disgusted of Master Gracey and Elizabeth's relationship. It's crazy though

In my mind I can still picture Tim Burton or Joe Dante directing an PG-13 or R rated version of this movie and those are the two directors I picture making that movie. I can easily picture it being like The Frighteners. It doesn't have to be an R or gory or anything, but if 'House With A Clock In Its Walls' has taught us anything, it's that horror movies that are family friendly aren't impossible.

For me the main problem with this movie was making a ghost ride into a comedy! But besides that the visuals are great, effects were pretty good, characters are detailed, and story was okay, fan service is always great and in my opinion this movie was decent, but the comedy needs to be cut from the film, so hopefully if they ever do a reboot, Disney will learn from their mistakes and fix them.

Personally I felt the spirit of the ride was somehow fall short in this film, and I do kinda blame it on Eddie Murphy maybe asking for more screen time. I am excited for the reboot for this. I assume if the film Tomorrowland is a hit they might move forward with the project.

The sport of the ride???the ride literally had zero plot just a reason to have shunted mansion themed ride yes they have stories but nothing actually connecting them together except the madame leota and Edward Tracey story in the ride. Movies have to have plots that drove the story someone stumbling across a spooky ass house and getting tortured by ghosts until thy leave isn’t a good movie. Even the BEST horror flicks have a Plot.😂😂

Side note-Does the Phantom's human form look familiar to anyone?

    • @Bobsheaux
      @Bobsheaux  7 лет назад +7

I'd say if anything, Phantom Manor was based more on the not-plot of the Haunted Mansion. The original Mansion ride never had a plot behind it outside of it just being a supernatural retirement home, but the bride was always the source of the most fan-speculation as to why the house might be haunted in the first place. Phantom Manor just took it a step further.

Eddie Murphy had developed a stand-up routine lampooning the unrealistic premise of horror movies, specifically haunted houses. In Eddie Murphy: Delirious (1983), he suggested that black people would never be featured in such a movie because they would leave as soon as they saw anything supernatural.
Marc John Jefferies (Michael) was actually 1 year older than Aree Davis (Megan) despite that she played a 13 year old and Marc played a 10 year old.
Michael references The Sixth Sense (1999) when he says "I see dead people" while he, Megan and Jim are making their way through the cemetery on the way to the mausoleum.
Much of the movie's plot is inspired by Phantom Manor, the version of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Resort Paris. Unlike the Haunted Mansions in the other parks, Phantom Manor has a clear storyline of a bride, her lost lover, and her haunting the mansion.

I'm unaware if I've heard the original soundtrack, due to not recalling the few rare years I've been to Disneyland (I was young .Very young). I mostly asked due to being a big fan of Tim Burton and adore 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'.
Though, from memory and after hearing the two versions, I find that I enjoy both roughly the same, just that the 'Nightmare' version is (obviously) better 'round Christmastime.

I feel a little bit of hate for this movie because it had SO MUCH potential. The opening scene of this movie is wónderful and how I wish the rest of the movie was like that. And like been said, the atmosphere and tone really captures the feel of the ride. But the script and some cast choices are a hidden miss and I even don't like the story that much :(
I happen to be a huge fan of the ride, especially the Disneyland Paris version (I know people will hate me for this but this was the first one i was introduced to as a young kid and I thought for a long time this was the true HM). However, I love the original as well and the concept of HM was just fantastic!
Why did the movie, based on this beautiful gorgeous ride, not take an actual HM story that already exists? Yes, there are more HM stories, each version has one. Sure, they match a little here and there and not all the storylines are just as written out. But some of them are fár more interesting than this. 2 Examples I'm the most familiair with:
    1) The story of Constance is about a young bride that has married several times in her past. However, none of her grooms got to spend their wedding night with her. For she, hungry for wealth and richdom, had the habit to chop off her husband's head with an axe and would get all the property of her husband after his death. She did this several times, but one time, her groom-to-be got a taste of her plan before she could put it into action. This man murdered Constance just before the wedding. But what he didn't saw coming was that in afterlife Constance is even more dangerous and she chased him down by putting her axe in his head. And she will do this to everybody who dares to enter her mansion, in which all random ghosts from all over the world would inhabit. As far as I recall, this is the California version of the HM. Tell me if I'm wrong. Could be Florida as well.
    2) The Paris version is the most richest in storyline of all HMs:
Melanie Ravenswood is a young bride-to-be who lived in her mansion nearby the goldmine Thunder Mountain (yes, these attractions share a story!!) Her parents died during an earthquake due to the fact that plundering the Thunder Mountain for gold has apparently upset the gods. Melanie survived and stayed in her mansion: Ravenswood Manor. She felt in love with one of the goldmine co-workers and made plans for marrying him. However, at her wedding day....he never showed up.
It is told that Melanie died from a broken heart, but never left the manor. Still searching for her beloved in the corridors in her weddingdress, holding only a rosebouquet and candelabra to lighten up her way (obvious icon is obvious). Well, what did happen to the groom? He was hanged. Not by himself, no. By the spirit of Melanies father, who didn't agree with their union.
See, the movie shares sóme elements of this last story, but then .....why didn't they go all the way? Phantom Manor is practically written out for you to make a góddamm movie out of it and you sirs...screwed up. Let me rephrase: why not an ANIMATED movie??? Yes, yes I'm all for that!
So, point is: Disney, you really need to do this ride JUSTICE just as you did with Pirates of the Caribbean. Another favorite ride of mine. So why could you do it with one, but not with the other? It's possible, and by now I'm practically begging for it.
Let there be a HM movie that does justice to this wonderfull ride!
    Sorry for the english:(

I’m pretty sure the Constance storyline was added in 2006, a few years after this movie came out. Still doesn’t live up to the massive potential that a movie based on this ride should have had though. I would actually like to see an animated show based on it.

I've never been to Paris, but that mansion DEFINITELY has the best story (I mean, Mystic Manor in Hong Kong is a good story too, but it's not scary). Killing spiders, Eddie, how deplorable! It's not like mostof them are even able to bite through our thick skin. I mostly just pick them up with a glass and paper, and put them outside. :)
And yeah, this movie... I never saw the Disney attraction (closest Disneyland is in Paris and there are better things to see there) but friend of mine who loves the Haunted Castle hates this movie with a passion. I can understand why.
They could have done so much more with this beautiful environment, instead of wasting it on a sappy cliche ghost lovers story.

No, but Master Gracey looks a lot like him in his original skeletal portrait. He's kind of a composite of the master and Ghost Host.

true, but eddy muprhy's character is clearly the kind of guy to use any logical explanation he can think of. The character isn't eddy murphy and he isn't axel foley; the character is an idiot who probably would have been more believable if played by tim alan or ben stiller

    1. So you like this better than the Country Bear movie? What's wrong with you; that movie was hilarious. Intentionally.
    2. What ride did you get on at the end? Because Nightmare Before Christmas is cool and all, but that's not the haunted mansion.

    • @Cure_Hana
