- This winter I tried Andrew Huberman's Cold Exposure Routine to fight off my winter blues.
I'm an avid listener of podcasts like those hosted by @hubermanlab , @timferriss or @joeroganMaybe that's why it seemed like everyone was talking about the benefits of cold exposure. I'm not going to repeat the well-known benefits of cold exposure; a quick Google search can provide that. Instead, I'll share my experience of doing it for more than 90 days straight, every time between 2 and 4 minutes.
One thing was certain: this year, I was determined to take action. I grapple with seasonal depression also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), which means I battle depression in winter while feeling like my normal self in summer. This past summer, as I traveled alone, being happy on a beach in Greece, I could already sense the dark winter days looming on the horizon.
Then and there, I made a pact with myself: this winter, I would confront it head-on, utilizing every tool at my disposal to fight off that downward spiral I always end up in.
So when the cold began to set in, around the beginning of November in Belgium, I bought a cheap ice bath-nothing fancy, just €80. I filled the tub with water and let the freezing cold of the night do its work.
