    I have a personal opinion on the cold water. I think only those of us, addicted to endorphins or something like that, will do the cold water daily. I have been an amateur endurance athlete my whole life, and I’m 62, and I just can’t do the things I used to. Knees and hips and shoulders hurt. But I can ride the exercise bike and do the breathing exercises, and cold shower or plunge. I like the plunge better than the shower. The shower never hits all the body at once. Also people battling anxiety, depression, and mental illness will be regulars. But to try to get normal, happy people to do it, good luck! I think the sooner we all admit we are an odd bunch, in a good way. The more we can understand each other, and the reason we do this. We are people trying to get high on our own supply. And we probably make up very few of the overall population. Thanks Wim I’m going in the cold plunge now, right after I’m done with the breathing exercises. Then I will either ride the bike or swim. I have been doing the w h m twice daily for 2 months now, I like it so much. It was once a day but I wanted more!
    Just another day of trying to get high on my own supply, for over 55 years.
    P s .. this is purely a mental and spiritual thing for me. I pray during the breath hold. And I pray the entire time in the cold water. it took me too long to understand the meaning of life is.. unconditional love

      Think of all the miserable drug addicts and people getting high on cannabis and alcohol, I suspect the market is way bigger than you think. WHM certainly makes me high, used cannabis over 40 years, now use much less (2 tokes a day) and get much higher, working out and breathwork while high.

      @@richardweiss4167 I just meant to say, I have been doing w h m for 2 years. I discovered it by accident. I was a long distance swimmer. And I was swimming in 60 degree water for 60 minutes hard . I had never been in such cold water for so long. So I looked up online how long is safe at that temperature, and stumbled on w h m . The cold water is merciless, like Wim says.. you are only going to do it, if you desperately need it. Much like Wim did with the tragedy of his wife. Normal, happy people are not going to subject themselves to the cold water daily. I do it because I need it. And doing it in winter is much harder than doing it in summer for me too. But I do it daily and twice daily sometimes. I used to run 5-10 miles a day as a younger man. Then I got into bodybuilding and 3 mile jogs. Then as the joint pain set in ..long distance swimming 10 years ago. I need to get high on my own supply. 98 percent of the people in the world, don’t need or crave or lack endorphins. Or whatever we produce when we push ourselves in a physical way. The breathing exercises and cold water trigger a similar response.

I used to sit and think about the cold which I'm sure can help some people. Now I use a David Goggins inspired quote. "Don't think just go." I say that to myself and just get in the water. • @AlanRaviAtchison
    @AlanRaviAtchison 2 года назад +229

    Yep! Truer words never spoken. I have historically HATED the cold in all its forms. But after doing a lot of research on Wim Hof and his teachings, I began the WHM back in February 2021, just 9 short months ago. 3-4 rounds of his breathing exercise plus a cold shower. Had to train myself in the cold showers with only 30 seconds of mildly-chilly water at the very end of a hot shower and worked my way to just jumping into a straight cold shower with no warmth whatsoever. Today, it's really cold and drafty in my house and I feel somewhat chilly and lethargic in my body, but you know what's actually going to charge me up and warm up my core? Taking a cold shower! After those initial 10-15 seconds of "HOLY SHIT" the freezing water wraps you in a warm blanket and I just can't explain the feeling of warmth and energy when you step out. Plus, like Wim said, getting sick is just not something I experience much anymore. I used to get sick 3-4 times a year, but the health benefits to the cardiovascular system when taking a cold shower, as well as the overall ability to dissolve stress and boost white and red blood cells that comes from the controlled hyperventilation and retention are real! Try it for yourself...and to boot, there are no products to buy or sell here...it's all from within and all FREE! Much love & good health to you all!

    Straight in no mucking about it last about three and a half minutes but you will want to stay longer.
    After the recent cold sand the temp got down to 6c but avarge about 8c.
    Every morning shower after 100 crunches 100 scissor
    100 reverse crunch
    Various yoga positions and weights. Breathing every night before bed and I go straight off.
    Diagnosed with bladder cancer 4.5 years ago but getting through it also developed generally anxiety disorder 24/ 7 which was a killer but with routine and help from a good friend, Whim and Claire Weeks ok now. Thought I was indestructible before all that as most men do.

    Ik ben een Nederlander al 44 jaar in NYC. I have been taking short cold showers my whole life, following in my father’s (Holocaust survivor) footsteps. Since September I’ve been going cold shower only, and I’m embracing it (and dancing with it) daily. Thanks for your encouragement. When you’re in NYC, I’d gladly bike tour you around, that’s what I do for a living at age 68). I’m embracing the cold instead of battling it this year!

It's been a life changing routine that I will never leave and I encourage people to do it in your own time and possibilities, ALL THE LOVE; ALL THE POWER. The more I do cold showers, the better i feel afterwards and during them because my mind is saying how much I love it the more I do them. So at first, I'm telling myself how much it hurts but overtime, i start telling myself how good it feels. So it's all about mindset. My depression disappears, switches to fight or flight and I feel more alive. This teaches me that if I do more things that are uncomfortable, I'll be less depressed, but doing more comfortable things like warm showers, ill be more depressed and seeking comfort more often.

  • @i3looi2
    @i3looi2 Год назад +5

    Easy tutorial for beginners:
    Option A:
    1) Shower with 1 hand, and with the other hold the shower head (so you can control the exposure)
    2) Start with a shoulder/arm, switch to the other, then take a deep breath and pour on chest and back. At this point, doing legs and crotch should be the easiest part.
    2.5) Along the above point, rub/soap intensively where/as the water hits (this warms the skin and makes it bearable)
    3) DON'T SHOWER YOUR HEAD (this could give you serious head-aches as a beginer) ... if u need to wash hair, do it separately (after) with warm water.
    Option B:
    Wash first with hot water, after you are done, just crank it to cold water. End shower.

We as an individual can only hope to influence someone to do better or more but truth is it comes down to them. It took me about 100 days of cold showers to the point where it doesn't feel really hard to do anymore. I now just do it. 10 minute pure cold shower, every day.
    I got this really simple thought that works for me, it goes like this. Whenever there is any doubt or excuses coming up, I think this:
    "What am I?"
    "A man"
    "Is a man affraid of some cold water?"
    "No."
    That's it, into the cold this man goes. It may sound silly but this really works for me.
    Other tips:
    - Buy a shower speaker. I bought a ue wonderboom and it's great for more cold shower motivation.
    - Buy a shower timer. It's much better when you can focus on yourself, your breath, etc, and you don't have to watch the time.
    - On really weak moments, you could start off with 5 minutes of warm shower, then turn it full cold. This is easier than starting off cold. This way you can take a cold shower even on your weakest moments.
