this whole situation is just bizarre. You'd think a veteran like linus, a dude who's been on youtube for so long relatively free of controversy, would know better.
There's been quite a few mini contreversies recently (backpack warranty, anonymous former employee posts, piracy comments, 30 series opinions) that he got away pretty much unscathed from because much of his community defended him. At most he had to do a wan show segment with a non-apology where he accepted the other sides point but maintained his position, then drop a limited run of topical t-shirts which would sell out in a few hours. He probably thought he was invincible and he could ride it out.
He wouldn't know better because he never learned in the first place. He's been like this forever, the only difference is that he was finally called out.
I know extremely little about computers and what the drama is actually about, but I can appreciate the stupidity of monetizing your apology video lmao.
@barmcake331did something else come out? I know they had a lot of errors, but every benchmark video they've ever done and only 10% of it is accurate!? That's gotta be hyperbole.
@@futuza It is hyperbole. They have consistent data errors and product mistakes in their tech reviews and effectively provide misinformation to the purchasing decisions of their audience. It's consistent, but doesn't cover "90%" of their reviews, just chances are there is at least one error per every few videos. This is due to the crunch times that LMG as a company imposes on its employees so they aren't given time to properly identify, edit, and fix errors. This is the main point that Steve from Gamers Nexus brought up and just wants them to do better and improve their standards as a review company. Yes, the Billet Labs situation is the height of irresponsibility, but is only one of several more issues.
@@k3salieri okay just making sure, because I didn't think they were *that* bad with their inaccurate testing, but this keeps revealing new things so you never know
Is anyone surprised to Linus acting like this after the backpack warranty drama? Edit : That was a basically refusing to give EU customers 3 years warranty and just said “trust me” with like a year warranty when it’s actual EU law and many countries laws to have 3 years warranty for that sort of thing. He went on a rant about how expensive that would be basically during the whole 100M dollar offer thing as well and refused to apologise, until the outrage became too much and he caved in and still not taking responsibility for his old views and statement, and mocking people that wanted this warranty in a statement.
@@leinadreign3510 he wouldnt make an offical warranty for 250 dollars backpack and we should just "trust him" or as he said: "Trust me bro" which GN also made a video about until linus caved
Haven't heard if that one. Honestly, out of all companies, I never would've guessed Linus Media Group as scoundrels of the PC gaming community. But here they are - proving me wrong.
@@leinadreign3510 Walhor explained it, but I do want to add that he made a t-shirt saying trust me bro, a sign of making fun of the people who were asking what warranty they would get and what is covered. Just normal questions and Linus decide to make fun of them and he was so excited that t-shirt sold so well instead of talking about the warranty.
GN Steve was surprisingly quick on the draw with such a detailed response, almost like how Batman has a contingency plan to neutralize every member of the Justice League if they ever go out of line... 😅😅😅
Monetising and plugging LTTstore into the video were bad, absolutely, but Linus' segment opening with him crying about idiots accusing him of theft and showing screenshots, to deflect and downplay the gravity of his actions and look like a victim, was honestly outrageous.
Well, I think it's good that this gets called out and they are kinda forced to make some changes… let's see what happens now. I wouldn't say the video was more negative than positive so I'll just wait and see.
Yeah, even if he thinks that people completely misinterpreted and distorted what actually happened, it's not a good idea to "apologize" with a whiny rant that starts with "it's honestly really hard when people..." That just doesn't sit well. Even if there was some misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the events, the explanation should be given in a more neutral and diplomatic way, not in a "woe is me!" manner. I don't understand how the other people in his team thought this was a good idea.
Because you have nothing better to do with your life rather than be outraged. You don't want to see a bigger picture and that's okay, but just outright dismissing what he has to say in his defence, because you don't like hearing it is childish.
Dbrand: Guys, we should try to give Linus a sponsor on his apology video. It'll be so funny. Dbrand after those tweets: I'll be honest with you, I'm kinda retarded.
honestly i didnt know about it cos i dont watch him that much. now i know even more why, he was always delusional, had stupid ideas. like that golden xbox controller. same reason i use ps3 pad not ps4, cos battery lasts week not 18h and is lighter. and that prototype thing is just disgusting
That's not an apology video. It's heavily edited bullshit with a lot of dad jokes. I don't see any honesty there. Also their post regarding Madison accusations is literally a joke. Literally "stay patient until something important happens and you forget about it" sort of reply. There were zero quoting and clarifying. They could easily agree on certain points or disagree, especially Linus itself, but he did not do neither. They literally made post just to calm everyone until they forget about it.
@@criticalmoorhenthey handled the Madison situation perfectly. You have no idea whether what she's saying has any legitimacy to it or not? @@shadow_realm47 Well the runs out pretty fast this days. When I was a kid. I used to think that "a million dollars was enough for my whole life" (I'm Mexican) now I have like 5 millions maybe? And every day I think "it's not enough". No matter how much money you make, you spend a lot more even without knowing it. But going back to the LTT case, it certainly is totally out of moral context. Stealing from other publishers and commenting on it, selling testing equipment, poor product quality control. I have always known that they are amateurs (since I saw a server video a long time ago) but I watched them for fun, now it is questionable for me to even laugh (their followers think it is easy for an engineer to create prototypes). I don't care where he went the money, "was not his. If it were me, I would sue him for everything he has and what he still does not have". 1 prototype can be even the year saves for some people. @@jaggsta Yeah this makes it feel less genuine but to be honest if I had to explain the processes we had to push our projects in my job, I'd also need a paper sheet or a prompter. LMG could’ve saved so much face and respect just by saying “We fucked up massively and we’re halting production until we get our shit together” in a short, non-monetized video. Issue direct and public apologies with none of this victim complex BS and promise to make it right. Their video was basically a parody of an apology. What a disgrace

It felt like they where trying to joke their way out of the issue in the video. If you are writing jokes in an apology script that arnt self critical you’ve failed the apology
There have been situations before where Linus has messed up in some way or did something controversial and instead of apologizing just joked about it and swept it under the rug and to be honest they were only minor things so i dont particularly blame him. The fact that he appointed his wife to HR manager is crazy. The last person you want as HR if you actually care about employees is a friend or family member of the boss.
When your small team consists of 5 to 30 people it makes sense. Lmg has been transitioning into a medium sized business from a small start-up. Anyone complaining that they didn't have medium sized policies in effect from the very beginning is a fool.
I dont see it wrong, Maddison didnt acuse Linus(whom she made uncomfortable with sex jokes and inuendos the first video she apaered), she acused other employees and lack of effective response from HR, so is not like linus's wife is protecting him directly. Also i hope Maddison trouble of bullying and harassment gets solved, but also other stuff dont seem to be problems with the company and more of herself (like said she had to cut her own leg to get into ER because work was exhausting and not worth instead of quit)
Yeah, they definitelly didn't gain any favors by including humor on their apology video. Not to mention monetizing it. Gamers Nexus didn't monetized their video and they treated the whole thing in a serious and respectful tone. LTT still haven't learned their lesson.
Ahhh yes GamersNexus was serious and respectful and totally didn't create drama bait. His video journalism at its finest. Yes somebody needed to speak out against LMG but GamersNexus was totally not the right person since his journalistic practices are top tier.
Problem is how many chances will they think they have until they start making things right from the start all over again? Because in the terms of mortals, i've only seen 1 chance to be given to success in life. The first time you mortals screw it up, you're already fucked for the rest of your life.
My respect for Gamer Nexus has increased ten fold, the fact that they did not monetize their video shows that they care more about the viewers than their monetary gain, also in the long-term they will not promote a product that doesn't deserve the praise
you have good idea, linus can say it wasnt him, after his channel was hacked it was chatgpt, doing all the content for last 6 months and not them. blame AI. they were like that dude in his house by apple, lockedin company for 6 months, uber eats delivered and they could not leave cos AI threatened it will clear LTT bank accounts. with modern technology its possible. and this is fuckin scary
"Your honor, we couldn't have created a toxic work environment, we were completely occupied with making 69 jokes and throwing other channels under the bus"
On the last WAN show they complained about how some employees got some of their merch prototypes and donated them, which they don't want because they're prototypes and not representative of the final product. Weird that they would sell another company's prototype.
I agree but that company wrote to LinusTech that they can keep their prototype.. and that wouldn't look good in court. How important it was if they were ok with giving it away, and than when they changed their minds, they only wanted 2000$
@@1GTX1There's a difference in law between possession and ownership. The company would argue that they gave permission for LTT to retain possession of the prototype while the company themselves retain legal ownership. Ownership as opposed to possession means that you can exercise various legal rights that those who are in possession generally cannot. To treat property that you do not own as if you do own it (such as auctioning it off) is known as the tort of conversion.

I feel like some people on the drama side of things, mostly on Twitter and Reddit, are mistaking the goal of GN's original video. LTT has been a great source of entertainment and what they did for tech overall is good. As a fan of tech in general, I'm not hoping for the downfall of LTT, but I do want them to sort things out with billet labs and prevent other future potential mishaps. Better employee management, less "correction" on videos, and improving accuracies across the board, especially the labs testing. As for the Madison's allegation, I would wait and see until it is proven. Especially after the many times something like this happens, like Pyrocynical had to come out as a furry and one had to expose him face just to make a response, many people wouldn't even hear him out, damaging his reputation permanently. I know tech community are better than that. At this point, it's a he said she said situation. Very different than what GN bring to the table.
I just want them to get their shit together. I'm not looking for them to be the perfect representation of morality. They are now a corporate entity responsible for employees and possibly shareholders, not even the Vatican is free of sins.
You blame management for that , really? How, man, a amateur who want to test stuff clearly would know that something is off if your charts are that crocked and tell me how is management at fault when someone shoves a cooler on the wrong graphics card? I found one of the worst parts of the "apology" video to be Linus playing the victim. That's a massive red flag setting off so many alarms that I will always be second guessing his intentions. 🚩🚩🚩🚨🚨🚨
At least to me, his intentions are clearly to make as much money as possible despite the human cost. Linus seems to only be able to view the world through his own eyes where he is the main character and hero.
@MakuArein I'm not saying Linus is completely innocent in all this, but in his defense the internet has a way of taking a mistake and blowing it way out of proportion until it becomes something different. I'd get defensive too if people are dragging my name through the mud because the person I hired to manage my inventory screwed up and disposed of something they shouldn't have. I don't think Linus is a bad person with bad intentions, I just think he's a bad business leader. And that makes all the sense in the world because he has literally no formal training on how a business is supposed to be run. If you look at everything that's transpired through the lens of incompetence rather than malice, everything starts to make a lot more sense. Everyone IS out to get LMG right now, look at the comments in the thread. The stuff with Madison doesn't have anything to do with how a prototype got auctioned off, but now all of that gets dragged in because they want to stick it to LMG for not grabbing his ankles and letting everyone make inferences about him and his intentions that aren't necessarily true. Your comment about him lying about the waterblock timeline is a good demonstration of that. Do you know for certain he was fully aware and knowingly lied about the waterblock timeline or could it be possible that someone within his organization gave him bad information in order to deflect blame away from themselves?
@@seemoney4038interesting theory, this could make sense. Linus handled this pretty badly like how a toddler would handle this kind of situation. Personally waiting for their response for the Maddison situation, which they hired a third party investigation, and I can't wait for the results, and their editorial changes after this. Right now, there's no good information to analyze this situation. Everyone's meming about it, just like you said. And the next comment you had seems to be apathetic, or malignant. But, if it came off wrong, our bad. We'll aim for "seven tens" next time. Get it? Because 7 out of 10 is like... never mind. [Cut to Linus sitting on a golden throne with a crown] Linus: We also heard some feedback about monetizing our last apology. But hey, lights don't keep themselves on! And speaking of lights... [Camera pans to a new, extravagant chandelier] Linus: Check out this new chandelier we just got! It's made entirely of recycled apology letters. Eco-friendly and stylish! [Cut to Linus in front of a whiteboard with the word "SORRY?" written on it] Linus: Now, about the Billet Labs situation. We thought auctioning off their monoblock was a fun way to, you know, give back. But if you guys didn't see it that way, we'll just... auction off something else next time. Maybe this whiteboard? [Linus winks at the camera] Linus: And for those of you who didn't like our Dbrand mention, well, we've got a solution. Introducing our new LTT-branded apology notes, in partnership with... oh, wait, maybe we shouldn't announce that yet. [Cut to Linus holding a small puppy] Linus: Look, we get it. We messed up. But who can stay mad when there's a puppy involved? Meet our new office dog, Sorry. Isn't he adorable? [Camera zooms in on the puppy, then back to Linus] Linus: In all seriousness, we're listening. Kind of. And we'll keep trying to get this apology thing right. Maybe the third time's the charm? [Linus shrugs and smiles] Linus: Until then, keep those comments coming. We might not always get it right, but we sure do love the engagement. Smash that like button, and remember, we're all in this together. Sort of. [End with a flashy outro and upbeat music]
I’m still so shocked by this entire situation… it seems like every step they take they just make this worse for themselves. Once this situation is fully resolved (if it even gets resolved), their reputation won’t ever be the same..
This sounds exactly like Bethesda's Fallout 76. Where he said 4 times the map size of Fallout3. Instead here Linus mentions we need to more videos for our channel.

So... When your company goes huge... You become Corpo. Seems logically consistent actually. The major issues here stem from the fact that a large company is being run like a children's playground. To corporate you need Corpo. All companies learn this or die. Their second big lesson is that growth only flies on the coattails of customer approval. CD Projekt Red knew this, somehow dropped the ball so hard. Darling Corpos should be way more careful, they can hurt the most. Imagine if Larian added shitty monetization. Wait they did. Before. Since I've their old games too, they learnt their lesson that bad monetization isn't worth their reputation. Running a company isn't easy, it's not even about greed. It's just the amount of things that can go wrong increases with complexity and having a personal face or a front means that image will get all the flack.

At most he had to do a wan show segment with a non-apology where he accepted the other sides point but maintained his position, then drop a limited run of topical t-shirts which would sell out in a few hours. He probably thought he was invincible and he could ride it out.
This wasn't the first time Linus makes things worse by posting his rant.
90% is a stretchhhh, more like 20-30% could be inconsistent information, while their methods and procedures were error prone@barmcake331

@@k3salieri okay just making sure, because I didn't think they were *that* bad with their inaccurate testing, but this keeps revealing new things so you never know

The Madison tweets were extremely sad to see, I've read them all and honestly they should make things better
Monetising and plugging LTTstore into the video were bad, absolutely, but Linus' segment opening with him crying about idiots accusing him of theft and showing screenshots, to deflect and downplay the gravity of his actions and look like a victim, was honestly outrageous.
Was it really outrageous? Have you been deeply affected by this situation and the monetization of the video?

Linus: In all seriousness, we're listening. Kind of. And we'll keep trying to get this apology thing right. Maybe the third time's the charm?
[Linus shrugs and smiles]
Linus: Until then, keep those comments coming. We might not always get it right, but we sure do love the engagement. Smash that like button, and remember, we're all in this together. Sort of.
[End with a flashy outro and upbeat music]
damn spot on
Fuck, that's probably the worst thing they could do.
It would also be 200% in character and tone for their scripts.
Now we'll know once and for all if they're using AI for their scripts if this becomes a reality.

This is why "You either die a hero or see you live long enough to become a villain" Quotes never fails.
this situation made me remember that 3 screens laptop prototype stolen that everybody said linus took
Their "apology" video is very unnatural. They pretend to care, but they don't
dang it, i've been watching linus since i was out of the womb, i honestly hope things turn around for him, but at the same time, i've got to hold him against his allegations and facts
Allegations and facts are two different things.
@@spiritcrunch whoah there, careful with that common sense, especially in public, people might throw rocks at you ;)
The lesson here is to never fuck with Gamers Nexus
Imagine thinking GN is any different than any other reviewer out there.
@@derbigpr500GN is objective and factual..
Even when they apologize, they have to play the sandwich-man like:
"I screwed up... Fortunately I have the new LTT screwdriver."
That's how they only care about these serious allegations.
there is bot convince you to believe in christian. Now there is bot that convince you to believe in islam. Thx google
He (inadvertently?) dumbed his content down & now more people can understand what he's doing, especially non-tech savy people. He's gone full corpo. That monetization & DBrand mention proved to us his priorities. Can't wait for the next episode of this circus drama.
Also the sheer amount of content.
I haven't seen the apology video and I didn't think that an apology video could actually make things worse. Then I watched this video and... holy cow, batman. I thought Canadians were supposed to be good at apologizing?!? Their actions and their apology video are SOOO tone deaf. I suspect very soon that Linus is not going to regret not taking that $100 mil buyout offer.
Yep he will regret that
ha 'tone deaf'. I was saying that about him for years bcz of his sh*tty 'funny lol' content recently...

Not taking the 100mil offer is some pre-karma stuff. Seeing this fiasco I wonder if he was not accepting it just because he thought 100M was not enough!?
@@Szaboo92The guy has everything he wants. He wants the company it's part of his ego as THAT TECH GUY that everyone respects.
It's funny to me how everyone forgets that when you have over a hundred employees and a few buildings that things become expensive to just keep running.
People still need to get paid, it's not one dude posting videos on his personal channel.
Both his fanbase, viewers and himself need to grow up.
It's like a playground fight where everyone is happy the popular kid is finally eating some dirt.
Hilarious. The bigger you are the harder you fall. Anyone remember Linus saying "hard R" and people thought he was talking about the N word lmao. It was only a matter of time before something real happened.
and he was acting like a saint lol
nerd drama still better than average slvt drama.
This just keeps getting worse ... They need to fire whoever is in charge of PR.
Like Linus, you mean...
They have PR team?
"We had an internal error, and we are in the process of fixing it, not to mention reprimanding the people that allowed this to happen. I allowed this to happen, I am sorry"
I fixed his apology
So their apology video was just a mess of mistakes just like every other video they make.
No words. Just Linus and his tech tips empire collapsing on its own.
The amount of oof and tone deaf radiating from Lmg is horrifying
Right on the ball. Jeez, I'm glad I subbed you Niktek 👍
LMG have a huge hole to dig themselves out of, but if they're seriously careful, they might just be able to pull it off.
considering how things are going, I highly doubt it
Seems like they're just going the wrong direction, since they keep digging themselves deeper and deeper.
@@Pacho18 Not necessarily, NikTek is just finding more stuff to post about.
It's a big topic; it'd be ridiculous not to milk as many views out of it as possible.
It is amazing how fast this situation has snowballed from a news bit on a Gamers Nexus video, to what we have now. The other thing from all of this, is it might make hardware manufacturers, video sponsers and so on, think twice before dealing with LMG/LTT.
I got ghosted by Luke after doing a 4 hour take home technical interview for a position over at Floatplane (owned by Linus Media Group). I was upset at the time but looking back I’m glad I didn’t get hired. Had to be the universe looking over me.
That's brutal. Hope you found another Dev post.
"The audience either love watching the bad guy turning over new leaf or the 'good guy' descending to the bottom of the abyss" fits well with this entire fiasco
I'm a huge LTT fan and have watched their content for years, but even I can see that some of the stuff they have going on internally is absolutely not acceptable and they need to make some serious changes to their organization and educate their staff about sexual misconduct.
I really hope they can make the required changes and make a comeback, but seing them stumble from f*ckup to f*ckup makes me afraid that they won't be able to.
Also have you noticed how corporate they seem to have become?
I’m originally an LTT fan too, but I’m having a harder time supporting them with every video I watch about the drama…
I can't even watch an LTT video now because it's easy to see the fakeness after all this.
This has got to be Top 3 worst apologies. It's nice when they have an attitude about it
This is just getting more painful every day
It's honestly really hard
-Linus, 2023
That whole "apology" video just oozes with insincerity and is the final straw for me to unsubscribe to all LTT's channels and set all the video suggestions related to them to "Don't Recommend Channel" so I can delete LTT's existence off my feed
I mean. For all that is happening to Linus and his group. Their greed has caught up to them big time. And they're not even sincere. Goes to show how your status corrupts you when you have reached the top spot. (or at least on this situation) They can't handle their growth properly. And it massively shows. I'm stopping following these guys for any Tips from now on. What a big SHAME
If nothing else, this exposes the mass amounts of incompetence going around at LMG.
I don’t think you need 20/20 vision to even see it from a mile away. If you’ve been watching them for awhile(for me ~3 years), you can see their team is struggling to pump out daily videos. You have editors rushing to edit a video that they end up with a hefty amount of errors, and you have staff in charge of video ideas struggling to create new ideas bc of how much time they’re alotted for a video idea vs having the time to prep for said video. LMG was already leaking oil out on sea, all it took was someone to light the match to get the fire going
@@greedxvii3698 I could tell they were getting lazier, but I didn't think they had rotted and atrophied to the point where they couldn't even keep track of who won what at an auction for tax purposes
@@AnarquiaCookbook I assume it’s due to chain of command related issues. When u have 100 people working for u I doubt u can keep track of everything they’re doing so he has supervisors for each branch to oversee people, but that’s probably also still a lot to handle considering the amount of work they have so they probably ALSO have someone to help them with their shit and that’s probably how they lost track of it. Too much daisy chaining, not enough communication or sumn idm
"we didn't know we were supposed to keep this private email emailed only to us private"
I guess they got humility lessons from Activision-Blizzard.
I love both NikTek and LTT. Seeing LTT issue with Billet is a nightmare and NikTek roasting LTT is another level.
This could've been mitigated if they were to just you know, accept that they mishandled the situation. But naw, gotta make it worst is the key to it all.
Ltt is gonna need a lot more than a week of housekeeping to clean this mess up.
The in first place nitpicking of the worst Internet comments to say that everything is an Overreaction to minor incidents is by far the worst decision in the apology (alongside making it monetized). Dude tried to Gaslight his entire public. Just because he had already doubled down on reddit and ignored Madison posts. It could have all been kept at "we will be more rigorous on tests and more attentive to product reviews" in the first hours and then in a public apology + transparency of management with Madison.
They added the “segway to sponsor bit” and then edited it out with an oops just kidding. “Groan”
Plus the stories from Maddison, they can't just got of it.
It's getting worse and worse 😭💀💀💀
Few can handle too much fame and money It seems.
Definitely not starting a competing company called ocueye media group
1:22 well, that's a reference to the 99,9999% uptime that is a running joke when engineers talk about server infrastructure
I think the worst part is their non-apologies are just corporate firefighting, they only care about moving past this.
I hope Alex is pure. He's the best person on camera.
And Riley too, he's a great tech quickie host
well, this is the biggest implosion i've seen after the sumbersible one.
They know that ppl forget all this shit and starts watching their shit in next 3 weeks... Apology only came because they seen 100k unsubscribers and have to save their company. At this point, they really dont care about anybody else except themselves...
It’s the lack of accountability that even a child can have that’s making this all seem so stupid
The apology video was the most "corporate bullshit" they could have done. All Linus had to do was own his mistakes and say he would do better.
He's not some single YTuber with sole control over everything. They're literally a company.
Please never treat companies like a single person. This is why they're fucking up. It's great news he stepped down as CEO.
There's now over a hundred people to pay, several utilities and all kinds of expenses.
Companies don't company because they're EVIL, they company because they have to.
Keeping one person responsible for the ongoings of an entire company is stupid.
@@arandomfox999 Good point. But I believe if Linus had done a "normal" video where he just talked with the public, this wouldn't had happened.
Even from a companys perspective would be better: imagine if Linus had own his mistakes, said he would do better and actually call Gamer Nexus to help them (even if they didn't really care for the help, just for image). Instead of being hated they would be celebrated.
And I talking about pure "image". They literally fucked up themselves.
Wow. I knew Madison went through some rough times there, but she finally opened up on twiitter... and holy crap.
even in the apology video, they monetized it and couldnt keep themselves from having that sick grin on their faces and promoting oh lets not forget, LTTSTORE, absolutely a disgrace

99.9999% (six nines) is a yearly uptime measurement of less than 5.5 minutes by the way (server talk)
sad to see a downfall of the first big english-speaking channel i ever subscribed to years back, as well as one channel this big that i expected to be the good guys forever
