    I think I found the issue! There was a bad ground connection on the valve that selects from which tank the fuel comes from. It would only take fuel from the left tank and pump it over to the right. The left ran low on fuel and that was the issue it seems.

    Well Adam we all know that's the name of the game sometimes . At least you nursed her back home , that saved money and embarrassment !!! It's always nice to see that even with the best preparation we all come unstuck occasionally . Thanks Adam . It was great to see your very young assistant (s) ! 😁🐶

    Thanks for showing both the ups and downs on the channel! My XJ6 leaked transmission fluid when it sat for a long period of time and I found the leak to be the where the kickdown cable entered the transmission case. I took the cable out, used some silicone sealant around the gasket where it enters the transmission case and never had a leak again.

    Just a bit of troubleshooting and she'll be back on the road! Never underestimate using injector cleaner at least 2 times a year, so that it cleans injectors, valves, pump, tubing, etc. Also, this morning, I have been working on the fan shroud of my XJ40, because I really want to convert it to electric cooling fan. I also replaced the rubber flaps on the shroud, so they'll open properly when going down the road.

    Good luck, keep fingers crossed. Things like this with the fuel supply, change over valves or ignition happen after a longer standstill... My XJ V12 didn't want to fire into life after winter and once it got off the breakdown lorry rolled into the workshop it fired-up straight away and we never sourced what was going on....

    Oh that looks all too familiar, nursing a car home lol. Did it a few times back home in Iceland, and most recently when I purchased my current DD6 down in Kent. Drove 630km to where I live now in Scotland. Misfiring above 3,500rpm and overheating somewhat on the last leg.
    Would I rather drive a Tesla cross thingymajig? Never! Looking forward to the DD6 to be back on the road (even thinking about ditching the X350 XJ6, as I don’t really drive much).
    As always, great videos Adam!

    Its such a beautiful old car !
    .
    Im sure from my childhood that the max speed (UK) was 153mph in 1970 when new
    (It was the fastest saloon car in the world)
    .
    There are a few V12's over here in the UK for sale.... but i'm going through some troubled times and fuel costs lol
    .
    Its just the idea of that "airplane" /aeroplane engine under the bonnet (hood) !!!
    .
    I'm sure it will be fine
    ..
    AH !!!... just remembered ... ALL Lucas tachometers required a a few gentle taps on the glass and they would spring into life :-)
    .
    (Triumphs, Jaguars, .... way back in the 80's if they worked immediately there was something wrong with them)

  • @craigtiano3455

    I recall that the original SU fuel pumps in my DS420 had backflow prevention, to prevent the fuel from being pumped from one tank to another. Even though you think you found the problem, related to a bad ground, it may be that you have yet another problem...

  • @stevejelly3161
    @stevejelly3161 2 года назад

    Adam.... disconnect the fuel pump.... squirt high quality release oil into the inlet ! (NOT WD40)
    .
    Then some 2-stroke oil into the inlet and let it run for a good few second ?
    .
    I'm guessing you would need a good few gallons in each tank to show 1/4 full in each as they are so thirsty !
    .
    Then some 2-stroke mixed into t gallon can and poured into each tank to lubricate its way through.
    .
    Adam, over here in the UK they never broke down, they just rotted away !
    .
    A Jaguar specialist many years ago told me that he had never done a head gasket, ever, on a V12
    .
    .
    GOOD LUCK BUDDY

  • @natesteiner5460
    @natesteiner5460 2 года назад

    Adam, not sure if this applies to the Jag V12. On our old 74 SAAB 99 which also had the Bosch D-Jetronic injection system, there was a set of points under the breaker plate in the distributor which were the pulse generator for the injection system. If there was any sort of contamination on these at all, there would be all manner of odd and inconsistent driveability issues. If you still have intermittent rough running once reliable fuel pressure is restored, take a look at them.

  • @frankkemble2103

    I had just the same with mine a few days ago and it was a bad ground to the fuel pump. I hate that changeover switch too and so I have retrofitted two pumps instead of one and used the changeover power to turn on a relay. Now I have two pumps instead of one just like the original jags and because the pumps have built in check valves then no issue with fuel pumping from one thank to another. Not only that but i needed a changeover switch anyway which are not cheap and buying a second (new) pump was a far cheaper and better option.

  • @davedyer3654
    @davedyer3654 2 года назад

    Either a faulty changeover switch or faulty return solenoid and fuel is going back to the other tank. Back firing maybe more likely to be ignition? I have an issue with my Daimler Double Six ATM, it is hunting on tickover when cold!

    Suggest you add in line fuel filters in each line from the tanks to protect the select valve and the pump from debris. My fuel "fuel select valve" stuck for no reason, so no fuel to the pump. Note, to clear debris, you can temporarily reverse the power to the pump to back flush the fuel lines. Good Luck.

    • @LivingWithAClassic
      @LivingWithAClassic  2 года назад +1

      I add filters on the carbureted ones but not on fuel injected ones. It can restrict the high flow needed for the pump. These tanks are very clean inside and the filters in the tanks are clean too

    • @frankkemble2103
      @frankkemble2103 2 года назад +1

      I did that on mine as even after cleaning the tanks I was not happy with the colour of the fuel. Now mine has three filters, one from each tank and one to the fuel rail after the pump. Now I have fitted two pumps like the old Jags had and I can switch from one to the other and junked that useless changeover valve.

      I both agree and disagree. Yes, a Japanese car (and I have one too) is almost perfectly reliable and takes much less fuel, but these old Jags have their charm, and these days, they are used mostly as toys, for fun. When a car is used for fun instead of for daily life, it become different. Yes one thing or another will break, but I take my Japanese car while I wait for the parts, then I repair it and I can enjoy it again for a while.
