I love songs like this that can pull me back to a time & place long gone. How many times did I clean my room & dance to this song and moved the needle back to start it again time and time again ??!!
Sylvia Jane Hutton (née Kirby, born December 9, 1956), known professionally by her first name Sylvia during the 1980s, is an American country music and country pop singer and songwriter. Her biggest hit, a crossover chart topper, was her single "Nobody" in 1982. It reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 5 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, number 9 on the Cashbox Top 100, and number 1 on the Billboard Country Singles chart. The song earned her a gold record certification and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Her other country chart hits include "Drifter" (number 1 in 1981), "Fallin' in Love", "Tumbleweed" and "Snapshot". She was named Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music for 1982. She is also credited with making the first "concept" music video clip to air on Country Music Television (CMT), with "The Matador".
“Nobody" is a song written by Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan, and recorded by American country music artist Sylvia. It was released in June 1982 as the second single from the album Just Sylvia.
I was in high school when this song came out. It helped me show my friends that country music was not out of touch like some of them claimed. Please pass on my thanks to her. Roy
I was a young teenage girl back then. My memories of those days are great, as well. In fact, I was 13 years old during most of the summer of 1982, and I turned 14 that August. This song brings back great memories. Oh, only if time travel was possible! I'd go back to the 80's in a heartbeat!
I loved this little girl. Such a beautiful young lady and a beautiful voice too ! Sure made my heart flutter. Actually watching this video .... I got that same feeling again. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
i grow up with that beautiful country pop song i heard every week by week then time 1982 on american country countdown by bob kingsley from american forces radio in Athens (glyfada) ive never forget in my life that magic years, full of that beautiful songs, like Sylvias Nobody.
This performance was obviously being professionally recorded and the audience was no doubt aware of that. It wouldn't surprise me if they were asked to cooperate with the recording by keeping their reaction muted. It may not have even been the only "take" of the song. They may have already seen her do it ten times.
I thought so too, although the name Sylvia is familiar as well. Maybe I did know Sylvia sang this back in the day and have misremembered as my brain cells have went into a fog.
I’m 59 now and remember this well when it came out when I was a junior in HS. I always thought the lyrics were clever lol. Around the same time Never Been to Me by Charlene
Cute song. VERY circa early 80's in sound. I love it. Like the "Country" vibe. Love to see SHANIA TWAIN or even Miley Cyrus cover this- would be an INSTANT hit. PS SYLVIA Is subjectively and objectively GEORGEOUS.
If this came out now the feminists would rip it to pieces. When I was a kid I had such a crush on Sylvia. Couldn't figure why the guy in the song would want anyone but her..
No lie, before me and my brother talked my parents into getting separate phone lines in the house you could pick the phone up especially at night and hear the nextdoor neighbor talking.
@@introvert4everfreddy656 Back then, it was Sylvia Kirby-Allen. Kirby is her maiden name. She was married to another man at the time. Hutton is her current married name.
Awesome and nostalgic. Tough audience but she didn't flinch. :) The good old days of this kind of class and music, are gone. By the way, Wham! ripped this off for their Last Christmas song. Listen close to the chord progression in the verse.
This was filmed at the Grand Ole Opry house in Nashville. At 0:50 she notices the camera on her right is currently capturing her ( green light on) she starts performing for the camera and in turn the camera man starts zooming it.. Love it. Living in Nashville while working with artists at CMT I got to hang and talk with her some. Sweet, down to earth lady.
Yeah, I was surprised that this was considered a ‘country’ song and one of the first crossover hits when I looked it up. Now, if I imagine Randy Travis or George Straight singing this song with a more traditional arrangement (no synths) and yeah, I can see it sounding ‘country’ 😉
Darrell Anderson he left me in the hospital fighting for my life had me served with divorce papers on the day id have a year and a half to 2 if surgery was done well they couldnt do it when he left home i only found out when property management called abt the keys within 24 the hours of admittance hed moved in with the nothing
I love this song and Sylvia for singing it but let's be real...No white audience member swayed a head or a shoulder (how boring). They are not moving....so sad because this song is awesome!
Doesn't seem like 42 years ago but i still REMEMBER this song but never knew the face to put with it. What a beautiful woman and beautiful VOICE!!

This song got stuck in my head while I was cutting grass yesterday. What a pretty lady, and great singer.
Me too! Mowing grass and had this song in my head! Thinking of how clever the song was! lol 😂
@@laurapuchalski7402 Another one that wandered into my mind not long ago was was "That ain't no way to treat a lady".

I've missed seeing her and hearing her wonderful voice. Thank you for posting it.
Excellent I loved that song and her she had a good album then Never saw her again, always wondered what happened?
LOve Sylvia's songs. It is also much nicer to see videos posted of live performances instead of just showing a record label and playing a song. 😀
Wow I remember my mom listening to this! It's still a great song.

I was thinking the same thing. Goodness. A bunch of stiffs.
Ladies and gentlemen please hold your applause until after the performance thank you.
What are they supposed to do? Interrupt her singing?
Beautiful Voice,Always Loved This Song
I absolutely love this song!!!
It's 2024 and I was moving leaves around the yard and this song came on the 80's on 8 XM. I just don't remember hearing it before.
Great song. Memories of my freshman year in high school.
Up until a minute ago, always thought, Sheena Easton sung this. Always liked this song.
She did do a crossover duet with Kenny Rogers ("We've Got Tonight").
I thought so too, although the name Sylvia is familiar as well. Maybe I did know Sylvia sang this back in the day and have misremembered as my brain cells have went into a fog.
YES!
I love this song when I get a chance to go out to karaoke this is one of the songs I always sing

Yes, and still her man is stepping around.
If you ever hear her in an interview, you'll find her to be classy as well.
One foxy lady. I wish I was her nobody.
SHE is objectively and subjective GEORGEOUS
Lmao, in the 80s everbody in a houshold shared one landline..
And it was better. Because you got to talk to everyone in the household. Got to know them even.
No lie, before me and my brother talked my parents into getting separate phone lines in the house you could pick the phone up especially at night and hear the nextdoor neighbor talking.
Absolutely gorgeous
Awesome song!
Why aren't there songs like this written anymore? If this song was released today I'll bet it would be just as powerful and popular.
This song should be sung in karaoke bars or clubs cause nobody ever knows......🕵
I actually got a request to sing this at karaoke next time I go! I'm listening to learn it lol
Happy birthday Silvia!🌹
honestly, I thought this was a Sheena Easton tune... Haven't heard it 30+ years.
Love this song.
she's beautiful!
Sylvia is a great Sanger.
I remember some music lawsuit involving Wham and "Last Christmas" and this song was brought up as pre-existing when Last Christmas was written.
She was a nice looking women and good singer....
I used to sing along with her in that song for sure
