I think what is so addictive about Ren for me is that he does whatever entertains his ADHD and my experience is that this really tickles my ADHD brain.
He's unpredictable. He releases a live acoustic that sounds completely different from the studio version, adds riffs in, plays with his voice and with the guitar and he does that precisely because it entertains his ADHD. It's fun and exciting for him. It's exactly that that makes it fun and exciting for me too.
Don’t need to have ADHD to be entertained by those playful changes. Tho’ I’m beginning to think I may have some of those symptoms myself 😂
Acoustic Ren is where he shines.

Ren is one of the few who can take his own song, do it acoustically and make it different and equally as good. I saw him in an interview saying he rarely plays a song exactly the same way twice. It means even with his own stuff, you never really know what your going to get.
I don't usually enjoy acoustic versions of songs, but I get so hyped when I see Ren doing one. His creativity and ability is insane.

I'm absolutely with you on the official music video thing! I'm the same way with most artists. There's a few acoustic/live versions of songs here and there that I enjoy but, I grew up with MTV and VH1 so, I just love a good music video. Ren, being a busker, is better than a lot of people at lives and acoustics but, I still like the music video versions better because I love the creative visuals he comes up with.
Maybe that's what it is haha. Our era. We enjoyed staying up late and binging hours of music videos, and seeing what the artist had in store for us. That will never change.

Ren's amazing but frankly there's two cases where he just shifts gears into something truly special... him being live, and when he works with another artist. The Big Push, Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins, Chris Webby, Prof, Bibi, Viktus, the list just goes on and on. And every time the collab turns into something on a whole new level.

Here's the thing with Ren and his live takes of his own music:The official video is really half of it, Ren makes the draft of the video in his head while he creates the song, that's how his mind works, so there is not a single thing that was not intentional, so the audio and the visual together make one whole piece of art. Right. When that is all out of the way, promoting it is over, the video for the song is out... then he can go back and play with it again, and he enjoys it immensely, and it shows, it comes through. This joy, fun and passion, that's what his live bits are. And we enjoy them with him and appreciate the heck out of his effort.

I like that Ren always mixes it up and has fun with it when he does acoustic/live version. Makes it more interesting than doing the same song just unplugged. Both versions have charm depending on your mood.

The Dr Dre sample is taken from a song called "The Edge" written and performed by David McCallum in the 1960's, who is David McCallum... his most famous recent role until his death, was Dr Mallard (Ducky) in NCIS..
I think Ren sees a Studio version and a Live version as 2 different forms of the same art, so puts as much energy into making a Live version as he would put into a studio version. And both versions represent the same vision he had for the finished piece of work.
I'll have to look that up. He was the best part of that show.
Actually "The Edge" was written by David Axelrod. David McCallum conducted his own arrangement of the song on his album "A Bit More of Me" (1967)
@@bonnievonbraun6276 McCallum worked with Axlerod as his music producer on 4 albums with Capitol Records, McCallum records and performs "the Edge" 66-67 and release's it on the "A bit more of me" Album, and eventually Dr Dre Samples it for the intro to "The next episode" and Dre credits McCallum for it on the album...

I had my first good day in years. My health sucks and I was on cloud nine that I was feeling good. When I got home from my doc appt I had bad news waiting for me. It would be nice to have one good day from beginning to end. Sometimes I want to quit life all together. But I could never do that to the people I love. I'm just tired of not just being in physical pain, but the pain in my heart as well. Now I'm back to my homeostasis, which means I am in constant physical and emotional pain.😢

And a good example: Ren went to Fred's concert and got so hit with some of Fred's music that he just had to go and make his own acoustic - re-take. And that's EDM translated to acoustic guitar and voice. And still it is incredible...

I get what you’re saying about studio and for the most part….. with other artists I’m usually Digg’n the original . With Ren though , he brings something extra special with his acoustic versions that just take them to another level .
I find that the studio versions tend to be highly condensed , chopped, sped up and devoid of soul . Songs are sterilized and perfect in a clinical sense. Great for radio .
Either way , the original is fire. No getting around that . This acoustic version though….. I’m glad you liked it too .

I agree about preferring the studio versions! I love Ren's acoustic versions, but drives me a little nuts how some people are so aggressively committed to telling every reactor that EVERY acoustic version is better. Theyre not. This one is one of the best and I can see the argument, but the acoustic/live for animal flow, genesis..meh, they can be skipped IMO. (dont come at me renegades, Im one of you!) THanks for the great reactions!

The fact he did tune from Genesis puts it up there for me.
I'm the opposite, I nearly always prefer the acoustic versions. I actually wasn't that keen on Animal Flow, until I heard/saw the acoustic version. An incredible performance! I've always thought that Genesis, although a decent track, was massively overrated by fans but I love the acoustic version. As for songs like Chalk Outlines, or Money Game 3, I don't know how anyone can't prefer the live versions! :) Ren's busking stuff, solo, with The Big Push or Sam Tompkins is some of my favourite stuff from Ren and I love his jam session with Liv Sangster and his occasional livestream jams. Unlike you though, I recognise that taste is subjective. I'm only saying what I prefer, rather than claiming some objective truth. I find it steange that some people have an aversion to live performance because, for me that's the heart and soul of music! Especially for an artist like Ren where it shines through! He says he happiest performing live and I think it shows. I love his studio work but I REALLY love his live performances. Hi Ren, Money Game, Money Game 3, Chalk Outlines, How to Be Me, I Shot the Sheriff, Man's World, Improvising Around Stevie Wonder, Heart Shaped Box, Englishman in New York, Fred Again Mashup, Back on 74... His list of magnificent live performances just goes on and on... For me anyway. :)
We wouldn't say that if we didn't feel it for our own reasons. Everyone decides for themselves. There are very specific reasons I usually prefer the acoustic versions.

The amazing thing about Ren doing acoustic versions of his songs, is he makes them sound like u are listening to a completely different song! He did the same thing with Icarus/Acustarus and Sweet Little Lady! If u haven't dove down The Big Push rabbithole yet, u are seriously missing out!!

Great reaction. I usually like studio versions, too. (which for some reason, some people treat you like a weirdo for saying) but I do like this version of Murderer best and also the live version of Bitter Sweet Symphony, though I really love the video for his original version
Lol I ignore that, I think it's just a different era and/or, as always, it's just because it's Ren and he has an interesting fanbase. I grew up in the music video era and that's where my head remains.

the Dre sample BlackSpeed starts to "crip walk" to is actually much much older and was sampled from a song called "The Edge"... a nice little jazz piece done by David McCallum in the mid '60s... he was the same dude who played "Ducky" in the crime drama NCIS... and the dude was white as fuk, lol... i mean like snow... always gets me when i see people doing the walk to that and not even knowing where it actually comes from... its a sweet number, maybe BackSpeed will check it out?? its a short piece, but obviously made a mark on us
Lol that I know, anything involving hip-hop I keep myself pretty in tune. Just didn't expect Ren to do it, so it was a nice surprise for me. I appreciate that education though, I know a lot of people in the comments section wouldn't have known that.
