It's a shame that the Werner films were never dubbed for abroad. you're missing out on 5 of the best German animated films ever made.
To be fair, you would propably not be able to translate this and keep the humour. Lots of puns and local dialect that just makes these movies.

But sure, it would have been a lot of work to find suitable translations for the North German slang to make it as funny without completely twisting the meaning. In addition, of course, many (northern) German quirks are presented in the films that are already difficult to understand in other parts of Germany

The cartoon is from the 90's. Definitely hand-drawn. The target audience is young adults, not kids, though it is FSK 6, which is the German version of "PG", which allows kids of 6 years or older to watch it.
So I got all the Werner and Kleine Arschloch movies when I was between 7 and 10.

But then again in Germany we aren't stuck in puberty like people in the US. We don't get crazy as soon as there is a nipple visible somewhere, scream in panic and feel the need to censor and beep everything immediately to "secure" our kids - whom we just gifted an automatic rifle for xmas...
Even Disney and Pixar were hiding some Adult references in their Movies, usually goes right over the top of kids.

Seis drum, Fußball ist Ausdauer gepaart mit Taktik, Football Gewalt mit Taktik. Kein Spieler wäre für die jeweils andere Sportart geeignet.

There are so many puns that are hard to translate. The soccer team Holstein Kiel, became Holzbein(Wooden leg) Kiel.
Some soccer teams have Eintracht(unitiy) in their name. But the "stadium" here is called Zwietrachtstadion(Discordstadium).
Also, some names are made to be funny:
Hochbein = High Leg
Blindmann = Blindman
etc.
By the way, I thought the drawn comic was a little bit better.

Werner - Beinhart! is a movie from 1990 from the age of 6 (at least in Germany) which has real as well as comic parts - the translations below are wrong so you confusion sometimes is understood :D dunno if there is an english version of the movie but maybe - feel free to check for one :P so you've only seen a part of it and the football game isn't even complete (only a part of it)

The theme song of this movie (!) is by the german band "Torfrock", which is around since 1977. They are still playing live shows, although they are not the youngest band anymore. The band members also spoke the charackters voices in the five (!) "Werner" movies. Do yourself a favour and listen to the title track ... it's fun! Search for "Torfrock - Beinhart - Live at Wacken Open Air 2016" to see that it's a german rock classic and most germans know this song! Have fun! :) P.S.: The band members looked like the toon characters when they were young. If you know the singer or the guitar player, you find them in the movie as the singer is Werner and the guitar player is the rocker boss, ... but in real life! *lol

This is supposed not to be for kids. Did all the kids in the early 90s see this? Absolutely and everyone loved the cartoon. Back then the real life action part of the movie wasn't appreciated much but it's pretty good, too. The creator of this build a motorcycle with chainsaws.

Interesting fact, Brösel, the mastermind behind the Werner and the little punk cartoons and comics, had some people from disney in his team for the movie.
That cartoon is from 1990 - and a whole movie. 33 years old. And it's not for kids.
The cables were drawn in the 80s and filmed in 1988/89 and shown to the cinema in 1990. The draftsman is called Roetger Feldman a real Schleswig-Holsteiner (Northern German). Yes, all hand-drawn. Brösel (Rötger Feldmann), a german comic-strip artist and the "father" of WERNER, did it with a team of german comic film experts.
The movie was given free for youth people but one has to know, that the original Comic Books were created for Bikers ... it´s a special humor (i´m a Biker btw.).
One of the biggest parts in those comics is the "war" between Bikers and Porsche drivers. In these comics e.g. the race between "Holger´s Porsche" and "Werner´s Red Porsche Killer" is epic.
BTW.: the race took place in real 2 times at a german Autobahn... ^^.

My Husband grew up in Kiel, and can show you all areas where these scenes take place.

Too lazy too look it up but I know for sure "Werner" couldn´t have a higher age restriction than 12 years which is PGA13 in the US, but I think it was more likely free of the age of 6-8. It wasn´t harmful in any way and didn´t showed anything most country kids were doing at the time.

As for your feelings towards the animation ..hmm.
Don't watch too much of that. What I have noticed here and there, is modern animation looking like cutouts in front of a more or less carfully made backdrop. Maybe its my age , but when this happens, I feel like I might as well watch someone play with this paper cutout theaters you sometimes see on antique-shows😂😂

Now , I get how computer animation can really help with a lot of special effects, like in your example, everyone powering up and showing off their powers and all, but yeah...if it's not done well...
I think they tried to do this a little better in the current Castlevania, but still...
