Considering both games are played even after 10-20 years later, it’s a good idea to package it up and resell it to bring back a player base. I’ve been wanting SC to come back but wasn’t sure how it could happen. This has potential. Not saying it’s perfect and ultimately just could end up being a fun sandbox mode, but it does have potential. Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

I would never dare to put such an idea behind a paywall, but any contribution you make towards the project help us alleviate the expense we incur.
Well dark archons are present in sc2 in the campain and some custom maps and they do have that hability call confusion so yeah but its still funny watch lowko struggle with it

@@kommisar. Yeah. They did not have EMP. That was a science vessel skill. Best you could hope for is for tanks to kill templars before they destroyed you.
This effectively doubles the number of playable factions in the multiplayer, that alone has a lot of value. It helps that the SC1 factions are as cool (and brutal) as they are. Keep em coming, these matches are very interesting.
I've never even played SC 2, but still sometimes watch your videos anyways so cheers. I'm 38 and used to play Brood War and the OG Starcraft. Not at a high level or anything. I remember zergling rushes were terrifying. And those suicidal scourges wrecking the air units. Fun memories.
Same, except i wasted hours of my life mind controlling overlord dropships on island maps with show me the money cheats which the AI benefitted from as well. Ended up with 1000s over the supply limit lol
Assuming they didn't change any abilities, Dark Archons in BW had 3 abilities - they came with Feedback, which works the same as the SC2 version, and you had to research Maelstrom and Mind Control. Argus Talisman is indeed their increased starting energy research. So Maelstrom only works with biological units, but units hit by Maelstrom can still take damage, as you saw. This differs from Stasis (cast by the Arbiters, those hexagonal crystal prisons) in that units in stasis cannot take damage, but you can stasis everyone and their mother. Mind Control costs 150 energy AND all of the DA's shields, which makes it a very costly ability in more than just energy. This was a really cool mod, and I would love to see more. Mirror match ups on this mod would be insane to watch.
Malestrom is basically like a super buffed Fungal and Stasis is the same in both games (but just casted differently by different units). The actual spells between the two games didn't change much. They basically had different units cast them (even in entirely different races), renamed them and changed them a little. For example, Irradiate basically became Parasitic Bomb, and instead of the now non-existent Science Vesssel by Terran using it, they gave it to the new Viper in Zerg, and it could only be used against air units but now could also hurt mechanical units. Likewise, they also kept Consume, but instead of being used to gain instant energy by killing another one of your units, it slowly leeches the health of buildings in exchange for energy, and now of course the Viper uses it since Defilers aren't around anymore. Those are just two examples. "SC2" didn't come up with many actually new spells.
I'm already fan of non-professional wacky games, but this game mode is just fun on overdrive!! Please more of this!! I wouldn't mind seeing some pros trying this mode, maybe some tournament SC2 team vs SC1 team..
I would love the option to have both sc1 and sc2 units together as one. But for queens, they need to evolve into their flying counterparts in bw like the way a roach evolves into a ravager

But it looks like it's going to be mixed teams, i was hoping more like Team 1 using only SC1 races and Team 2 only SC2 races, then each SC1 race plays against each SC2 race to see who gets the title of most unbalanced of all times and which game is the strongest. Of course that just a simple tournament wouldn't be enough to say that, but it would be fun to see it and to try prove the results wrong eventually...
It would be very interesting to see high level players from both SC1 and SC2 play against each other. Here, it felt like the zerg didn't understand their race very well
I'm a 36 year old Star Craft Boomer who got hooked at 11 and never looked back. This is glorious and I can't wait to get off work and try this out myself
I seem to recall that at some point Blizzard tried experimenting to address the 12 unit limit in BroodWar. They tested a 24 unit limit and higher, turned out that such selection changes made Zerg incredibly overpowered, as having all your units moving is the key struggle in controlling them in BW, given that they have smaller supply costs in BW. So the 12 unit limit stuck.
Make sense. I remember how I did a Zergling only run in SC BW campaign way back then. And with just he 12 unit limit control, I could do it with several separate 12 unit groups. 24 or more units team will definitely make Zerg too strong.
there's like a screenshot from a gaming magazine somewhere, where it seemed blizz was experimenting with the idea of each race having different control sizes. It was something like Protoss 10, Terran 12, and Zerg 14. But I guess that was eventually dropped, and Zerg was balanced around having too much supply for your control groups. Theoretically they could make zerg units weaker to compensate for 24 (which was what happened in SC2) but where's the fun in that?
That's all I remember from my brood wars days back in college, endlessly refilling my control groups with endless hydras and lings. F2 in sc2 made me lazy😂
This mod is genuinely the best thing that has happened to this community in a loooong ass time. I am absolutely in love with it the only thing that saddens me is that it wasn't made earlier 😂
That was the Wombo-Combo in Brood War for Protoss. Terran was Lockdown/Yamato on big mechanical units. Zerg was Queen Green Gak (forgot the name)/ Plague. Also, mass Medic/Stimrine was beyond broken.
1: Please post more videos with this matchup and encourage pros to matchups like this. 2: Let blizz know they should have a online competitive mode on pro level which includes ALL units in sc2 from the sc2 campaign which has many legacy units like the dragoon. This would create a fTon of diversity of builds and add so much diversity and attention into the game with very little effort (aside from the balancing nightmare but they have a team for that!)
It's incredible, this has a lot of potential. A few balance adjustments could even unite championships for Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 players and all their fans. It would be a delicious massacre!!!

Static AoE spells -should- do more damage (if you stand still you diaf) vs mobility spells like fungals/parasitic bomb which acts as a DoT imo. In this mod, maelstrom makes storm OP
This is SUCH a cool concept. I'd love to watch you cast more of these games. Quite interested in seeing what the other matchups look like! SC1 protoss looks wild to fight against. Even just the different visuals too. The Psionic Storm animation looks so epic.
Please do more casts of this! I never got to play SC1 back in the day and with just knowing about SC2 units and balance, it's hard to imagine most of SC2 holding a candle to mind control and multi recall on Brood War Protoss!
Hey Lowko, would you ask Clem + (his opponents as Archon Team) to play a custom bo3 or bo5 that you cast for content? I think its so insanely entertaining to watch those type of 1vs(X-number) archon matches. It always pushes the limits and thus very exciting to watch 😃👍
Man this map is so nostalgic. I remember back in 2011 watching Husky Starcraft cast a zerg getting their infestor-broodlord archon toileted on this map.
This was some high level concepts, the swarm host destroying canons over time, but the toss just steals the units, and boi were those maelström storms intimidating.. ⚡⚡⚡
Pro gamer games are indeed interesting. But I also love to see more of this game mode! I'm glad more and more people are playing and covering it. I'll gladly watch more of this!

I think this is very cool ! I like broodwar's game design (the units are less gimmicky, the fights take longer, the hydra is cool, etc). And broodwar sound design is waaay better. But it can be a nightmare to play, so with balance adjustments this seems like the best of both world !
SC1 Carriers, the interceptors dock and get redeployed constantly, temporarily becoming hidden/invulnerable so missile attacks can miss and any target locks are lost. Making them even more powerful. Unlike SC2 where they are always deployed, easily picked off. I guess that's why in SC2, they do 5x2 damage instead of 6. A buff because they are unable to code the SC1 interceptors.

I wonder if people know or remember woth dark archon u can steal enemy workers and build their structures. And tech trees as well as your own. As well least in sc1 u would gain a separate supply count for that factions units in addition to your factions units. Made 1v8 melee matches in sc1 very fun when u stole a worker from the other 2 factions and than had access to a 600 supply army
The balance seems to be in favor of the Protoss brood war due to the storms strength, the ability of maelstrom to freeze and kill (like an Over Powered fungal) and the arbiter and dark archons are insane. Mix in a half dozen reg archons instead of dragoons! Would LOVE TO SEE BOTH SIDES PLAY SC1 ON THE SC2 ENGINE!!!

Exactly. Mass Recall mod (SC1+BW campaigns for SC2) has been around for many years, they could've also made this long ago.

loved using arbiters in SC1. using recall to move your armies around constantly was so much fun. I wish he used a dark archon to mind control a drone!

The Infestor, with the original fungal growth, is pretty similar to the Dark Archon of SC BW, though on a different race of course.
Its like a new game with 6 races have been created. The game phases feel very good as well! super nice

Was that really their reason? Because that doesn't seem to have made a balance impact in "SC2", especially with the addition of the all-army hotkey.
Imagine your game being only balanced through how clunky the controlls are.

SC1 psy storm is in another level, it deals 112 damage!
Over a longer time though. Keep in mind, that many Scbw units are beefier :)
It was balanced around the fact that BW units are naturally more spreaded, but with sc2 platform its crazy X)

SC2 Ultras being immune to mind control and maelstrom almost feels like payback for being hard countered by dark archons in BW.
I wonder if people know or remember woth dark archon u can steal enemy workers and build their structures. And tech trees as well as your own. As well least in sc1 u would gain a separate supply count for that factions units in addition to your factions units. Made 1v8 melee matches in sc1 very fun when u stole a worker from the other 2 factions and than had access to a 600 supply army
This was a great matchup, loved it
The balance seems to be in favor of the Protoss brood war due to the storms strength, the ability of maelstrom to freeze and kill (like an Over Powered fungal) and the arbiter and dark archons are insane. Mix in a half dozen reg archons instead of dragoons! Would LOVE TO SEE BOTH SIDES PLAY SC1 ON THE SC2 ENGINE!!!

Dragoons are, in fact, mini Immortals - fallen warriors in a robotic body given a second chance to fight.
Enjoyed, would watch more of this format. And I suppose they are not very popular but personally I like 4,6,8 player games too.
