- Phil promised some more thoughts on the Factor VAM after he had more time to get to know it. A few thousand miles and over 100 KOMs later, here it is.

Short and to the point. Very nice overview of the bike. The oil on the rims will surely help going fast downhill after the KOM attempts...
was looking for that comment :-D
Nothing like lube dripping down on your carbon wheels with rim brakes!! 😭
Gotta keep that carbon moist ;)
It makes you faster on the descent (whether you like it or not)
“Sometimes you gotta ride down the hill unfortunately.”
*Safa Brian winces in pain*
"Sometimes you have to ride down the hill, unfortunately"
Probably something to do with the lubed brake track.
Seth Hallam sometimes I have to ride up the hill, unfortunately.
Got my bike down to 7kg yesterday and I was delighted, you definitely shut me up
Made here in Xiamen. Great bike! :)
Is there any piece of carbon not produced in China?
@@deniskfender yes . in taiwan
sweet rig! i think you have a 10-33 cassette
Agree with your evaluation of the Mavic UST set up. It's been three years and yet to flat. Grippy and comfy ride. Use 25 in front and 28 in the rear.
This is the most awesome bike on the planet right now and you deserve it Phil
Super nice cookie man!!! Stay healthy.
when you get to 58 you’ll appreciate the size of the screen on the Roam! The extra grams make no differance to my FTP! Although I can keep going all day. explosive speed gone but longevity definatly on the up!
Great bike and great content, thanks and keep up the good work
Hey Phil, what type of bar tape do you have on this Factor?
Applies chain butter to tires to minimize traction
12.5 lbs is lunacy. I love it.
Lovely bike. I'm suss on that saddle though.
Sweeeet bike!
However, nothing about getting those mavic tires on or off those mavic wheels is easy. That said, they work quite good and those tires seem to roll very well. You just have to be the hulk to get them on/off the wheelset
Mark Smith it’s all marketing, you really think Mavic Yksion are going to corner better than continental pro Ltd tubs?
I really like this bike. Weight Weenie review mentions excessive frame flex to the point of causing rim brake rub.
Never had that problem. Probably a bigger rider
5.6kg. Just mental.
This bike is so elegant wow
Hey, chag samayach. Could you share the full specs for the bike, please? That would be cool. What power meter are you using if its not integrated into the pedals? Another idea: is it possible you can become an online "retailer" for Factor and incent prospective buyers with a SIGNIFICANT discount code so those whose religious belief preclude paying retail can build a 12.4 lbs. *climbing* machine w/o having to shell out $5400 for a frame and fork. Yeah, $5400. Not saying it's not worth it, but in case the Factor folks haven't noticed, the world economy is in a downward spiral and US unemployment is around 20%. Just saying.
I went to a 50/36 on my ultegra groupset because of axis lol it gives me all the range going up or down and plenty of top end for flats. Only have a 11 to 25 cassette but being I'm still young. I never need any more then the 25
how many flats since you've gone tubeless?
Would have been even lighter with SRAM Red 22 Mechanical......... Love the lube all over the rear wheel and that was before you even started riding.....!
Wasn't Phil on a chinese frame for a while? I already forgot the name of it . . . .
Just curious: What's the story behind your former sponsorship with Nove?
Some people found out Nove's frame distributor in Asia www.lightcarbon.com/rim-brake_c25 and were giving Phil a hard time about it. The frame was the model LCR007-V.
@@jdvumbc thanks to vegan guy in australia
what brake callipers are you using
80psi! I have the same tire tube setup and run 70-75. I weigh 170.
How much weight would disc add?
I have some serious doubt this bike weights 12.4 lbs. Those are 1500 gram wheels and 300 plus gram cockpit.
the groupset is not the lightest either so not sure how that is sub-13 lbs
I actually came here looking for this because I feel like he is trolling us.
I have a madone 7, frame and fork weight about the same. I have Reynolds 32 tubulars xxx cockpit and saddle and Sram etap and I’m just under 14lbs.
I sit there staring at it like where could i POSSIBLY lose a full pound of weight at this point. Doesn’t seem possible without getting drastic in a way that Phil’s bike clearly isn’t.
Really wish he wouldn’t troll his fans though. But whatever.
i dont believe phil that much after he tried to push a bullshit chinese frame rebranded to nove for thousands of dollars for the same chinese frame with a nove sticker on it. i placed an order for the frame from the china manufacturer the frame cost 621 including shipping
Lmao please pick a system of measurement and stick to it
Why no cosmic ultimate t wheel set? It would take off like half a pound and it still is pretty deep.
I’ve really come to like the tubeless system and having one wheel set when I travel
Hmm, so Discs equivalent makes it a 6kg bike?
@philgaimon still dropping in chattanooga to smash a climb?
Have you considered trying a 9/32 cassette with a 46t 1X setup? Save a few more grams.
Anyone know frame size for that weight?
LMAO, Phil keep the chain butter off the rim!!!
*drips lube all over wheels. Ya I guess you DO have someone else clean your bikes!
Also I thought cross chain like 50 front, 32 back would be an inefficient chain line?
You know what's more inefficient, trying to shift to small ring on SRAM. There's a reason SRAM doesn't win any Grand Tours and why Yates and Porte's big ring is 48/46. With SRAM, its good to have a 1x setup since that's all you can use or there's Bauke"Fuckin SRAM"Mollema's experience.
Why dont you make it into a 1x on the front to save even more weight
I like gears
@@worstretirementever reasonable answer
Sometimes I have to ride up the hill, unfortunately. 😆
Great rig. Just needs aero bars with elbow rests. This is not UCI B$. This is real life. On sections over 12MPH you need aero. For same reason, need aero helmet and shoe covers. Beware of triathletes. Just my 2c.
And made in Taiwan and not China! Good stuff.
TPBR11 you’re correct. My mistake. Headquarters in Taiwan.
so what does your disc bike weigh?
What size frame and length stem, I'm trying to build up a 56cm and the target weight is 5.9kg.and does your weight include pedals, cages and out front mount?
Could you give a breakdown of components and weight if possible inter3sted too see how you got to that weight
this bike is obscene!
Not sure I believe the 5.6kg bit.....
Does Phil still have NOVA bikes?
Carlos Rueda no
So... my bike is still a climbing bike, not a CLIMbing bike.
what's so special about using the outer chainring when going up hill? especially if you have to use the large sprocket?
i see people do this. even on longer climbs, and the cross-chaining makes me cringe
smp156 he can weigh in, but I think he’s referring to not having to change from big to little back to big ring in something like a crit where you can get into trouble sometimes where a clunky shift back and forth could mean losing several positions. I was in a road race a while back and noticed how nice it was to do the whole race in the big ring, meaning I didn’t have to take a chance on missing a shift or dropping a chain.
More a short climb technique, right? If u can hit the base of the climb at speed and stay on top of the gear, even if you go anaerobic, it's worth the greater speed of ascent. The faster you go the less time you spend in the red too
Not sure about that 5.6kg.... Frames can only get so light and those Mavic wheels aren't super lightweight. We know the weight of the SRAM Red. Let's see it on the scales next time
