    40K is the new 20K. Once we get used to the 40K, it'll be 60K. Isn't inflation depressing?

    👍🏻👍🏻 It would appear Toyota committed to continue to produce affordable, advanced quality hybrid technology. Some other legacy manufacturers are more interested in the 100k electric only destiny.

    Great, comprehensive overview of these terrific Toyotas. But the problem, as you pointed out, is that they are not available for purchase at MSRP. Unless Toyota can fix this major problem, hundreds of thousands of loyal North American Toyota customers will forgo their first choice and purchase a Mazda or Subaru in 2024, myself included.

      I have a prius LE coming in at MSRP with only 800 port installed options and a 499 doc fee. No mark ups. Will pick up in 2 weeks.

  • @vlj1133
    @vlj1133 11 месяцев назад +8

    First thing, you have to choose between a sedan or an SUV. That choice is going to eliminate half of the contestants, either way. No one who is determined to get an SUV is going to consider the sedan. These days, most people have convinced themselves that they need an SUV, whether they actually do or not. Among the SUVs, the Rav4 obviously hits the sweet spot for most buyers, because most buyers don't truly need the additional size of trhe Highlander or Grand Highlander. Instead, they simply want a roomy enough Toyota SUV hybrid that won't break the bank. The Venza is slightly quieter, with a bit more upscale interior, but the Rav4 has the far more practical interior and "tougher/more rugged" looks. The Highlander is nicer than both, and the Grand Highlander with its choice of three engines, including two hybrids, almost makes the standard Highlander irrelevant.
    Among the sedans, the Camry is the clear winner. There is basically no reason to get the Prius over the Camry, unless you simply love its wedge shape, which will quickly look dated. The Camry is far roomier, quieter, smoother, faster, torquier, more comfortable, and just plain nicer, for the same or even less money. The MPGs on the base LE Camry hybrid are a claimed 51 in the city and 53 on the highway, but but every time I take mine on the 250-mile round trip to the Bay Area I average 57-ish on the way there, and the low 60s on the way back. No idea why it does better on the return trip, since it's a relatively flat freeway the entire way. $31,400 was the msrp for the 2023 LE Camry, and that included heated seats, heated steering wheel, BSM, and RCTA. At that price, you're getting so much more car for your money than you are with an equivalent-price Prius. If you go to the upper end of the price spectrum, the top trims of the Camry offer so much more than the top trim of the Prius, which only boasts a meh AWD function as its main selling point over the Camry. You really have to want that middling AWD and the extra one or two MPG to choose the Prius over the Camry, because the Camry beats it like a drum in nearly every other way.

      @user-su5mp3lg2j 11 месяцев назад +2

      I would prase Prius as good as Camry since it's a hatchback and more cargo with seats down. So extra star for Prius. Both great choices. And I would choose quiet interior SUV over though stile exterior, so Venza!!

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  11 месяцев назад +2

      Drive the new prius! Just as quick, more fun to drive, updated tech, similar or better gas mileage depending on the trim and available awd if you need it. The Camry is still the better cruiser, especially for families but the redesigned prius has personality going for it.

    • @vlj1133
      @vlj1133 11 месяцев назад

      @@user-su5mp3lg2j With its reduced cargo capacity this year resulting from that lowered roofline, does the Prius still really have an appreciable storage advantage over the Camry with its own seats folded down? Maybe, but not by much anymore, and the interior is louder in the Prius because it's an open hathback/liftback, among other reasons. It's also less secure.

    • @user-su5mp3lg2j
      @user-su5mp3lg2j 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@vlj1133it still has enormous storage when seats are down. Yes, reduced a bit but not dramatically.

    I'd say the best would be the Camry SE hybrid Nightshade edition though with everything considered its 37,640 though the top trims let you have red leather seats if you have issues with dark colors like black/grey from getting burned in the summer or a warm day in spring/fall or getting stuck and sliding around if your wet/sweating

    Yaris Cross Hybrid is great for the money.
    I drive mine with around 3.8l/100 km / over 60 mpg.
    The 2024 version is going to have little bit more power and an updated interior.

    I bought a 2023 Pruis LE from CarMax. The main problems and deal breakers (I'm returning it) are 1) When you turn on your headlights during the day, the meter screen and info screen dim. No way to make them brighter. Ridiculous.
    2) At night with headlights on, there are weird shadows cast on the road in front of you, making it look like there's some dark ghost shadow floating above the ground. No wonder there are none on the road. Too bad. It's a fun car to drive and perfect for short people like me.

    Cost of Hybrid Batteries - yes, significant if it happens. But there are Gen2 PRIUS which still have/had original battery now, or when the car died of old age.
    And brakes last close to forever, transmission issues are non-existent. Unlike expensive repair bills for DSG, CVT or complex multi-speed (up to 10) automatics.
    And Hybrid resale is fantastic - at least here in Australia.

    Got 2023 Prius XLE with roof but no bigger media for about 39.5k after tax and everything, dealer had normal for now days add-ons for about 1.5k and another bs warranty for 1.8k (basically a mark up), would be so much better buy without all that greed (here in ga we can't have mark ups so they go around and pose it as addons)

    • @alanclarkeau
      @alanclarkeau Месяц назад +2

      The hatch is available in Australia - you're lucky, it's awful. Back seat is claustrophobic, and the boot/trunk is tiny.

  • @alanclarkeau
    @alanclarkeau Месяц назад

    Sadly, Toyota Australia won't give us the new Prius.
    I had a Gen4 - your comment about the height of the boot (trunk) - I never had an issue with - it's floor area which is the critical criterion for a boot normally - shopping bags, school bags & projects.
    Measuring by "volume" is irrelevant - where SUVs fail - most purposes, height is irrelevant.

    Great comparison of the Toyota hybrid products. But realistically, Toyota buyers aren't going to cross shop these products. If they want a box on wheels, it's a sienna. Want a big boxy ish SUV its a highland. Big girly SUV it's Venza. Common sized boxy suv it's rav4. Poor, it's corolla. Want some more styling it's prius. Bigger sedan it's Camry. Poor and want a SUV, it's corolla cross. It's all based on looks and budget.
