My bully used to laughed at me because he discovered my mom is a cook at our local restaurant. For context, my mom was just helping her cousin with the restaurant. Our family isn't in desperate need of money, she worked because her cousin begged her to. I got teased relentlessly by him and his group until one day I snapped and he stopped making fun of me. 10 years had passed, I saw him opening a stall selling street food near my house

I was bullied from 6th to 8th grade by the same group of 3 girls. Their bullying would range from verbally antagonisitic to destroying my personal property (art, homework, my notes, even sabotage my sheet music) to actual assault and battery against me. She punched me in the kidney, choked me out and dragged me by my neck across a campus courtyard using my shoulder bag, and even tied to jump me off campus in my own fucking neighborhood IN FRONT OF MY FRIEND AND HER SISTER IN LAW. Forever thankfull for SIL because she got the attention of a cop as they put their hands on me, an easy open and shut assault case. ONE WOULD THINK BUT NO. The cops dismissed the whole incident as "childish banter" so my mom lawyered up and went to the police with copies of every single report i made against my bully and her stupid clique. Thats when they finally took it seriously and filed the report, which she then took to the school with our lawyer and strong armed them into changing my entire schedule so we would be on opposite ends of campus at all times and never cross paths. "Thats the best we can offer" is what the school said. In 8th grade my bully was finally expelled because she threw a desk at a teacher. Not because 20 other students came out about her antagonizing and assaulting them.

And nearly all the kids in my classes called me a snitch and ostracized me for reporting the assaults. And i was told by the counselor (who seemed to be the only person who gave a shit but couldnt do anything because she was just a mental health counselor) to report incidents as soon as they happened regardless of if it would make me late to class. But teachers didnt bother to check with said counselor about that and i was constantly getting marked late or truant. Fucking stupid that i was the one getting punished by teachers and harassed by other students for standing up for myself. EVEN THE FUCKING DEAN OF THE SCHOOL WAS UNFAIRLY PUNISHING ME AND TARGETING ME FOR STUPID SHIT. It was like he was mad my mom lawyered up and threatened to sue the school and district for allowing me to be assualted to the point serious bruising was happening.

Unfortunately this is one of those opposite situations. When I was in third grade I was bullied by almost everyone in class for being fat and quiet there was only one boy in that class that was ever nice to me. We shared the same classes for 2 years and he was my only friend and supportive help when I broke my leg. He had moved to the school in the district over after that year so I didn't see him again until late high School but I never forgot him. Just a year ago he died on active firefighter duty. I didn't even really know the guy but I still cried. The world lost another kind soul that day.

I will never forget driving to work one morning when I was 22 listening to a local radio station for our small county & hearing the name of a guy that had been in my class. He wasn't necessarily my bully because 90% of my class had been my bully, he was just one of the many but hearing his first & last name which was a very distinctive first & last name & that he'd been arrested for rape of a minor. It was like all the blood in my body ran to my face at once. I was driving on this long winding road that runs next to the Cowlitz river & I had to pull over for a minute. I asked one of my friends if she'd heard about it & she said her & her husband had been sitting in their living room that evening & it came on the local news. Her reaction was similar to mine, it's such a combination of ha karma's a bitch then oh I might be sick I sat next to that person then oh my God is that why they school hopped so much there's so many questions, it's overwhelming. I'm 42 & it's still crystal clear. The town I live in is so small we have one 4 way stop, no stop light. A few years ago a guy from my older sister's class was arrested for murdering his neighbor with a hammer "because she was rude". Gonna have to disagree. One beer does not absolve what he did. I only said he bullied me, I did not go into detail on how he got all the teachers to turn against me and nearly caused me to fail in 2 different classes. If my older siblings had not been on good terms with the principal, he would've sided with those 2 teachers and I would've been suspended or expelled, or at least forced to repeat those classes.
He was not "rather nice" when we met again.
We had one conversation and all he did was try to absolve himself of any wrong doings. Rather than changing, he just matured enough to realize he couldn't navigate life making enemies the way he did in high school. Also, it had only been like 3 years, so even if he had changed, it wasn't this massive gap, he was old enough when was a bully to know it was wrong but he still chose to act that way.
In response to your suggestion to "give them a chance" I will leave you with the same words. You don't get to decide that.

Sadly for some of them it's really that way though.
To which I'm not saying their behaviour is justified, but kids are weird and will often hurt who they like because they don't know any better.
Jealousy or crush on someone is two of the reasons why someone is a bully aside from being genuinely a piece of sh*t.
So it's hard to tell when they are kids.
They might have really bullied you because one or two of them liked you and didn't know how to be honest about it (which of course doesn't justify the behaviour), funnily enough one of my bullies was soon discovered to be doing it because he had a crush on me.
Useless to say that once he was called out on the bullying and realised how much of a piece of sh*t he was he tried the normal approach of talking and trying to make me laugh but at that point I simply ignored him and wouldn't answer any of his conversation attempts, only a few times but not in a overly friendly way.

@@cheese-and-ricemooney7487 I don't think anyone had a crush on me at that time because I myself was really weird and had a melon cut. I am still labeled as weird even by the people who don't know me, but at least I am an adult now and don't have the need to play with the kids or hang out with someone just so I'm not completely alone. I finally made piece with the fact that having no friends is much better than being friends with people who don't respect me.

When the principal wouldn’t listen to me (bc he was a misogynist and ‘boys will be boys’) my mom transferred me to another school.
Apparently my bully had forgotten all about me because when we got to high school, he kept hitting on me. I never told him my name and just ignored him so I guess he thought I was playing ‘hard to get’ 🤢
It wasn’t until our sophomore year when we had a class together and he heard my name during roll call. He was like, “That’s a pretty name,” and I told him “That’s not what you said when you would purposefully mispronounce it and scream it in my face.”

My bully picked on me for 6 months. She would steal and hide my chair and books, put tacks on my chair, pull my chair out from under me as I was sitting down, trip me on the stairs, and verbally abuse me, amongst many other things. We had a few classes together and she would torture me in every one.....one of them was Home Ec.
I had 6 minutes to get from the far northern end of the school on the ground floor where the gym was, to the far southern end of the ground floor to my locker, then to the far northern end of the 3rd floor for biology after gym class. Since I have asthma, I was often forced to finish running before I could leave, so I was frequently late for biology.
This day she decided to mess with me at my locker because she knew the biology teacher was going to give me detention if I was late again. The lockers had combination locks that automatically locked when you shut the door, so they had to be unlocked again to reopen it. She slammed the locker shut 3 times, and each time I had to unlock it again. The 4th time she kicked me in the butt knocking me into the locker to shut it, and I had finely had enough. I I whirled around and clocked her soundly on the jaw knocking her to the ground.
Just as I did that, the Home Ec. teacher came down the stairs and saw the punch land, but hadn't seen anything else. Needless to say she marched us both up to the principle's office. As we sat in chairs on opposite sides of the office's reception area, the teacher was in talking to the principle for quite awhile before he called US in one by one to give our side of what happened.
When it was my turn, he asked me what had happened, and I told him that she had kicked me into the locker, and I hit her back. He said: "Then you admit to hitting her?"
I replied: "No, she KICKED me FIRST, and I hit her BACK."
Him: "So you DID hit her."
Me: "No, I hit her BACK, she kicked me, and I hit her BACK."
Rinse and repeat a few times before he dismissed me to sit back in the office to await how he was going to handle it.
He ended up suspending her, and simply warning me to report any future problems instead of handling them myself. Come to find out the teacher had told him the girl had been bullying me for months. She had told him: "I don't know what she did to finely get Julie to react like that, but with what I've seen her put up with from that girl for the last 6 minths, it had to have been REALLY bad."
The principle also talked to the biology teacher and told him to give me some leeway under the circumstances. And assigned me to the other gym teacher who let me forgo participating in class and just write an essay on sports instead because of my asthma. Back then (50 years ago) doctor's notes were only considered suggestions, and teachers could ignore them if they wanted.

I need accommodations on everything, I'm on government benefits under the participation law, never had a job before bc I can't have a job *and* go to college at the same time, I'm self concious as fuck, depressed and *so* angry at everything and I regularly see my former bullies around town, laughing and meeting up and I just get angrier when I see that those years of them bullying me have had no effect on them like it did on me.
Y'all, while I wanna say thank you for the advice, please don't try to give me more. I don't need it. She always acted so sweet and polite around teachers, and I could've told them, but I was never that type of person. One day, she dislocated my arm and got no blame. I think the teachers always knew, but couldn't punish her cause she would always cry when receiving the smallest punishment or a slight graze on the knee. This was in grade 6 by the way, imagine a grade 6 bawling her eyes out because of a bruise! Worst of all, she thought I was her friend and made ME deal was all of HER problems, since I was the 'smart kid'. She always treated me as a baby, not listening to me and not taking me seriously. Every time she opened a thermos lid my hand was too small for she would brag about it. Once, a wasp landed on my lunch and guess what? She was so petrified that she pushed me toward it. She screamed at the sight of a butterfly. She told me to kill it. This doesn't even scratch the surface of what she did to me, and I'm sorry for going on about this, but I guess I just needed to vent a little.

Once we got to high-school though I saw her getting harassed by some of the older guys in high-school (like sophomores and I think one junior). I may not have liked being bullied by her but she didn't deserve that kind of torment. I knew 2 of the boys from elementary school (grandma was the teacher's assistant for their 1st and 5th grade class and I knew their parents) so I marched over to ask what they were doing. They were shocked to see me and before they could say anything I asked them how their parents were. They said fine and awkwardly left her alone. After that we were a bit more civil with each other. Yeah, bullies are "interesting" to say the least.
Not all of them wants to actually bully you, they do as a kid most of the time for their own issues at home, insecurities etc. because they don't have something you have which they might wish to have.
Of course I'm not justifying bullies, but I never resented the two people that bullied me and they turned out to be nice people after being addressed/called out.
They had no reason to be friendly with me after the bullying, to be fair the being called out could have made them even more aggressive and hateful towards me but I knew one of them well (we lived in the same building) her family situation wasn't the best and her bullying wasn't really harmful to me (plus while I was usually quiet sometimes I did answer back, so most of the times it resulted in her pushing my pencil case off the desk, I ignored her which made her either give up because I wasn't reaction or sometimes I told her pick it up, most of the times she didn't however I didn't either so she really didn't have any other way to bully me given the most she did is throwing the pencil case down and ignore me for the rest of the day and sometimes she would pick it up herself) however she wasn't exactly called out on that, she eventually stopped on her own and after that she was actually really friendly and she isn't a bad person, her bullying was never actually harmful and soon I discovered it was most likely because of her situation at home which was similiar to mine but I was doing better in general because despite the lack of a father figure I still had my Grandpa and in general my father being missing didn't affect my growth that much, I wasn't sad or in need of a dad because I had one in a way even if it was my Grandpa.
It was a case of two similiar situation which turned better for one and worse for the other, plus the place we lived in wasn't really the best given the drugs and attempted murders around the area.
Eventually she ended up pregnant at 16 or something.
The second bully to be fair was really all words about me being fat which wasn't true.
I won't say I had the physique of a model in middle school, but at the time I had the average weight of every middle school student, if not even a bit underweight but not in a concerning way.
So once again I ignored it because it didn't affect me much, well, at one point it did make me want to not go to school and I remember crying to the principal but I know it never got physical and while it did affect me a little at the the time soon after the issue was resolved I pretty much didn't care anymore and went on with my life.
One of the two bully stopped talking to me at all.
The two bullies (who were friends) stopped talking to each other as well and I also noticed that the second bully behaved way differently when alone/the other bully was absent, making clear he was acting the way he did to fit in.
When B1 was absent B2 was friendly and in general funny, when the two stopped talking to each other after being reported to the principal B1 never spoke to me or B2 again.
As for B2 he got really clingy, to the point were a few of my friends said he might have had a crush on me and constantly joked around about how he liked me.
From my side instead I would simply stay quiet and not answer him when he tried to engage in conversations or being touchy like poking or tickling, when he complimented my shoes or whatever (that was after he got called out for bullying) so it was clear whatever reason he had to be mean it was because B1 affected his behaviour, if I skipped gym he would sit down next to me and try to have a conversation which I ignored.
Eventually I did answer him sometimes but I don't remember much of it so I'm not sure how many times we actually had conversations but when I think back about him I surprisingly have positive feelings about him and the calling names he did doesn't affect me much, in fact I wouldn't really be unhappy if we happened to see each other again because he was a funny guy overall once he actually started to behave as the real him.
I could reach him out myself but I don't really want to, given I'm afraid he turned out in someone I wouldn't really like to talk with.
Not because of him possibly being rude but because we have no common interests between each other so we wouldn't know what to talk about, plus most of the time if you write back to a guy you don't see in years they will assume it's just to date or get romantically involved so to avoid that awkward conversation I just don't XD
Either way the point is, I'm not justifying bullying but some of them really are just nice people in bad environments or influences.
The only reason I don't resent those two is because what they did doesn't exactly make me angry or uncomfortable.
To me it was nothing because they were two dumb ways of bullying, I did cry because of one but thinking back about it I don't even know why I did, I know however that it definitely wasn't because of him.
I think I was more scared of the principal than the bullies to be fair, I most likely cried because she was scary and thought I was in trouble or something, but of the bullying I pretty much couldn't care less given it didn't really affect me.
So once more it depends on the person, situation and how serious the bullying is.

I've never been a violent person, quite the opposite actually, but there was one day when I was just done with her. So I grabbed my notebook and hit her in the face with it as hard as I could. The thing that surprised me the most is that I didn't get suspended or anything, but she did, after I told them the things she had done of course. After that she didn't bother me anymore and actually considered me her friend, for some reason, so I just went along with it. Eventually we were put into different classes, but I still come across her sometimes during recess. She looks a lot more mature now to call it somehow, and I'm glad she's doing better.

I was bullied a lot, but the worst was 7th grade. She turned many of my friends against me. They would corner me at school and threaten to hurt me. I was undersized and timid at the time. My parents kept saying 'they're jealous ' and dismissing my concerns.
Fortunately, in 8th grade they seem to have moved on to other hobbies. 😂 I kept to myself mostly that year
Come high school, my bully approached me and apologized, explaining what was going on in her life and how she was always angry. I was an easy target. We became best friends and I named my first born after her. We have drifted apart in the years since, but we are still friendly when we see each other.

I was bullied by a different person every year from kindergarten to fifth grade. I ran into one of those bullies in high school when we both were on prom committee. She was super sweet to me, which was bizarre. I talked to my parents about it and my mom said “Oh, [bully’s last name]. You mean the girl you pushed into a locker?” I was shocked, because I don’t remember getting into any fights with the girl. Apparently, the reason I had a different bully every year was because I beat up the person bullying me. I didn’t remember any of them besides the fight in kindergarten. Presently, the girl on prom committee works at my bank and has a lovely son. I wish nothing but the best for her.

He was forcefully moved to special ed school at one point (in my country, special ed school's are for delinquents, dunno if that's how it is abroad). We ignored each other after elementary school.
I'm in my 4th year of highschool now. One day, while walking through his neighborhood, I saw a big graffiti on a wall of a building that sayed: "(the bully's full name) IS A PEDOPHILE". Come to think of it, I haven't seen him in the neighborhood for a year or so... 🤔

Also one year I did a presentation on my future passion, which is sewing and dress making, and he was laughing in the back of the classroom making me shut down and not even finish my presentation. When I got into highschool I didnt see him a single time, later that school year I found out he left the district because he was getting bullied for having two moms. He had a bisexual mom and a lesbian mom, his bisexual mom had him with another man who was almost 30 years older than her and ended up marrying a woman not too long after. He constantly talked about it super loudly in class so I thought people didn't care, but boy was I wrong. Do you guys he deserved to be bullied? I still dont know what to think of it to this day...

I had a lot of bullies, but there was this one bully who was the worst of them all. He moved and attended my elementary school back when we were in second grade. I didn't do anything but he would be mean to me, stalk me at recess, and call me names. At some point in fifth grade he threatened to kidnap me, throw me in the back of a car, and drive us both off a cliff, he also looked at me before making a slicing motion across his throat. I was afraid of him, he knew this and took joy in it. I only had one person who was willing to stick up for me, this person was my best friend, and my bully hated her for it.
My parents knew how bad he was, which is why when I saw him at a museum one day I was able to tell my parents because he was already making me uncomfortable, so my parents and I left. My parents, alongside my fifth grade teacher, did everything they could to make sure I didn't get any middle school classes with him.
    Guess what?
The school ended up making me have all my classes with him.
My parents argued with the principal about it, before the principal decided that I would be too much trouble for those teachers and changed my classes instead of him, although I still had homeroom with him.
Fortunately my years of being bullied by him would end though, as he moved five months before sixth grade ended. I don't know what he's doing now, but all I know is that he's another school's problem now.
I should also mention that his parents also enabled his behavior, and dismissed his behavior as him having ADHD and "Oh he just likes you".
