I do agree with this. The existing map turorials for the Giant Editor on youtube are extremely poor. If you start a clean Serie about it, you would get lot of views.
Its called a DEM digital Elevation Model. Takes a long time to make a DEM from raw lidar data. Good thing software is able to find those pesky points that hit a bird or something else flying and can discard them quickly or it is a pain to make sure you get every single point that is not ground level discarded to now be displayed when a DEM raster is made from the point cloud.
Pixel data is called raster data in GIS. The DEM title gives you rough quartile Topo location name and also year acquired, and also projection used. The projection and coordinate system is very important information to know. You have what is called ground level or bare earth DEM or 3D model DEM that displays structures along with ground level. Bare earth DEM takes time to process cause you need to extract the points that hit human made structures or birds or other things randomly in the air like drones. 3D terrain model is easy you just extract the first point returned and remove any points from birds and other objects in the air.
I wonder if Giants ever plans to make a map maker that makes the process much more sandbox like, and easier for all to make any map they want. Something similar to the world creator on Trainz. Would be a pretty cool addition to the game I think. Although I would probably spend more time making maps than farming lol.
That will never happen, as GIANT is way to much in love with their own engine. They even have a video explaining why they could not use a proper game engine like Unreal... FUBAR I say. There is nothing GE can do that UE5 cant.
@@NLAGaming I have area in my neighborhood is almost nothing but farming I live in southwest georgia. I wish I knew how to do this stuff. I think I would really enjoy it. Hi brother, at 17:10 you start making that square, in mine the D and A sizes does not become available, i have tired everything but it is only the coordinates that are visible on mine. any ideas? 😀
Hopefully you still read these comments, I've even when I select DEM from the usgs site it only gives me tiny little sections, like 1/4 mile 1/4 mile, also, even when I select the Dems to download, all I get is a bunch of xmls, any suggestions?
You can probably fix the blockyness easily if you can use that shapefile and extract the raw DEM data to a .png file. Some of the issue is your screen shot is limited by software as far as the resolution goes. In this process you are probably loosing tons of elevation data represented by pixels. Not sure you can do that with that free software. I can do it easily with Arch Map and takes very little time.
Yes, I realized that after I made the video. The better way to do it is to extract as a raster from the program instead of using the screenshot method. QGIS will allow you to do this.
would you be able to get a 8kmx8km dem for me? i have an area in WV that I tried to get into Giants Editor and GE makes the map look horrible. I need help.
Hello, cool tutorial!I have a question, can i make the same but for map size 2048x4064?Because my mod map is 4064x4064,but half of it i have already done manually,so there is only half of it empty and i want to create terrain for it
I think an updated version of this is in order. All I seem to find anymore are GeoTIFs and they don't play nicely. Are you still doing videos for 19 now that 22 just came out? Either way, thanks for all you do.
I was just working through this the other day preparing some DEMs for FS22. I had problems with some of the files I downloaded too. Not sure what the answer is. I will continue to find easy ways to make real world DEMs and if I find a good solution, I'll post a video.
I was about to follow along step by step until the USGS website at 8:39. If you look up in the top lefthand corner you'll notice you are on version 1 of this site, and when I go there it's on version 2. I can't find a work around, it's detrailed me.
Hey I was wondering if you could do one of these for a 4x map I was unsure how to create one when you’d need multiple tiles of dem data on one map thank you for the great content though!
for some reason when i try to pull up the file with giants editor it only pulls up the blank map even after doing everything you said to do.. is there anyway you can help me fix this issue?
nice video mate, i dont suppose you know of a way of finding out the terrain height in the game map, like the map gives your your co-ordinates on where you are just no height so for example a side of a hill choose a point work out the height use that height to work out where that same height is elsewhere in the map i would like to try marking out points for contours. thanks in advance
Heya, i got a question, i tried to get DEM for a map, but i also got this, how would i go about plotting this: View 3D point cloud in your browser (Supported on Firefox, Chrome and other WebGL2 browsers) This basically gave me the map. hey man. I really do appreciate your conttent. Let me ask you: Do you know if there are some group of people developing their skills in that thing of making maps? I'm from Brasil and here we dont have any kind of this communit of that. Thank youuuu!!!!
Just watch the RUclips channels of people that play FS. Usually, they will have a FB or Discord link. There are some groups on FB or Discord that are somewhat focused on mapping, but none specific that I know of. As you develop contacts on FB or Discord, other groups may open to you. Other than that, just watch video tutorials on map making and try yourself. Once you figure out how it's done on previous mod maps, you will learn.
Hey man I am from Louisiana also and I am looking to try and make a fs19 map that represents our area. Any help or direction you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
That function has been removed from the editor. In order to use your mod in game. You’ll need to zip up your mod folder. Like so; open your folder- highlight everything within- save as archive- zip folder. Then within your folder will be a zipped version. You can then place this into your games mods folder and enjoy!
I am very late lol, but a .las is a point cloud format, it is not a heightmap so you will need to convert it into that, it is very time consuming and usually requires paid tools, if you can get a heightmap in a .dem or .tif format it will work
I'm not really familiar with that file type, but as long as it will show up in the program looking like a DEM (white to black elevation data...or color) then it will work.
