Regardless of topic, dude has an absolute knack for teaching! A gift that not even many teachers have. This is how you know someone really knows a subject, when they can break it down and teach it to someone else👏🏽
I agree..better than tom davis forrest micke and leerberg cash machines. This young man teaches in 2 ways..theory then demo. ❤❤❤hes really fair and i hope he is very successful. God bless you.
The is the best dog training/instruction available on RUclips in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a background in education and teaches graduate level course. Just blows all other content out of the water. Thank you!
Your videos have allowed me and my Weimaraner to go anywhere and everywhere together without me worrying that she is going to lunge and snap at every dog and man who walks by us. I’ve watched hundreds of dog training videos and listened to podcasts and you are by far the most effective dog trainer on this platform. Thank you so much for your content!
I am a retired school teacher and usually these training videos are hard to watch because the teaching is not good, even if the info they are giving is good. You, young man, are an excellent teacher! I’m sure you hear this all the time, but it’s never a bad thing to get another compliment, and you deserve each and every one of them. I’m going to do all that you suggest and them move to the video on stopping leash pulling. Thanks!!
I have to admit that upon first glance I thought “what does this young guy know?” Boy was I wrong. VERY educational. You are a great teacher. Thanks for all the info.
Every single video of yours teaches me a clearer and more concise way of explaining training concepts and even though most of the information you generously provide for free on RUclips aligns with what I've learned through my own training education and work experience, I still learn something new every time. Thank you for doing what you do!
Just wow 🤩 I signed my two year old pit up for 6 week training at PetSmart. I was very discouraged when I got there and the trainer could barely make eye contact with him because of how scared she was. He’s not at all aggressive just reactive. I wish I would’ve came across your videos before spending my money 😭 but to be honest she definitely pushed me to get really serious about his training.
I LOVE how well you get into the nitty-gritty details and potential thoughts and questions so many different types of people may throw out there! Very, VERY well done! I am SO HAPPY I came across your video!!! 🥹💞🙌🏼
This was OUTSTANDING. You explained everything about the collar beautifully, and you explained and then demonstrated exactly how to use it. This ought to be required viewing for anybody who has the least interest in prong collars, and ESPECIALLY for the people who think they're cruel. If I had a dog that needed training I'd take him to you in a minute. Well done!
I used it and followed step by step everything you said and men . I wish I saw this video years ago. You are a super good trainer . I have a Pitbull. He is reactive on the leach and gets scared and start acting out. As soon as I did what you showed in this class , it was a total game changer. My dog was super good on the walk and no reactive. He was a little miss behave at the beginning but like 10 minutes later of me walking back and forth and applying the techniques you showed here he completely changed and started acting calm and looking at me for guidance. Thank you for your classes
I love the way you explain concepts. You succinctly explained why I have one dog I will never need a prong collar (she is soft, and her subjective perception of pressure is a sternly uttered “uh-uh” ) vs GSD cross rescue completely untrained as a puppy who I has high prey drive and dog reactivity - waaay over to the right on the graph - and I do use a prong on him. Fairly and consistently. A scalpel is a dangerous tool in the wrong hands - in the hands of a skilled surgeon it can save lives. The positive only gang might benefit from understanding this concept (or maybe they think surgery for cancer is too “invasive” or “cruel” - maybe they believe you can fix it with happy unicorn thoughts and treats?
You are absolutely brilliant! Probably the most comprensive educator I've come across on YT. I like how you explain things so clearly, and I like your channel since the first video I've watched about how dogs think and learn. That was an absolute gem! I Every dog owner and every organisation involved in the world should watch, learn, and stop treating dogs as if they are human. Please make more videos like this. Greetings from Singapore, all the way across the globe.
Some people anthropomorphize dogs by human intelligence, logic, emotion on them; but these people don't just treat dogs as human, they worship dog as some kind fragile but incredible emotional intelligent being (which is untrue of course). If these people actually treat dogs like human, they wouldn't argue against applying all 4 quadrant of operant conditioning/instrumental conditioning, since it's widely applied psychology theory in human society. They chose to be ignorant about it when even high schooler level psychology class would cover this.
Followed this practice, with two different dogs. My do, a micro golden doodle, always walked with one since he was old enough to go on walks. He walks fantastically, even if other dogs are in the area. We also used in on our son's 60 lbs. dog at age 2 who was a wild-puller. We did backyard training, and his very first walk was a game changer. He did fantastic. My son and daughter -in-law thought it was a miracle. They actually enjoy walks with him now. Thanks so much for this video.
Oh my dog! This was the most informative explanation of prong collar. I’ve been in front of trainers that absolutely showed this equipment wrong. I didn’t want to use it for this reason. I’m hopeful that I can try it now that I understand it more. Thanks.
I used the Herm prong collar for the first time on my 1 year old Golden. Great dog but would pull, jump, chase, etc. like some dogs just do. I couldn’t believe the results. After a few light corrections, she was healing for our entire walk. She has never done that!!! Great tool!!!
Mr. Hamilton, I give you 10 stars. You break ideas down to manageable bits, explain the whys, the hows, and the whens and do it with real dogs in real time. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and you explain conditioning, shaping, and rewards far better than most of my grad school profs did (who should know this inside and out). Thank you so much. I'm off to locate a prong collar...
I've watched so many videos about prong collar training and this one is by far the BEST. So educational and positive. Many vids I see go immediately into strong corrections, but this one really breaks down how to condition it to make it enjoyable for both the owner and the doggo. Thank you!
Can you do a course for cutting dogs nails who present as afraid? Alongside learning proper cutting technique?I’d pay to learn that knowledge if you have it. Thank you! Incredible content.
I'm in the UK and these are very much frowned upon, so I have ordered a black nylon cover in order to disguise it. I don't want to hear unsolicited comments!
Also important what he said about, "I'll teach that later." Dogs cannot learn too many things at the same time. Get one command down during a session, not multiple. And stop training session when the dog is successful with that command , then in afternoon or the next day repeat same sucesssful command. Once the dog gets it, then move to the next thing to train; in this case, its the jumping behavior.
I have watched a number of his videos. I am now able to loose-leash walk our new 56 lb 9 month old Belgian Malinois. Something I never achieved with our 2 previous dogs who were only 38 lbs who have passed. His teaching skills and understanding of dogs are off the charts fantastic!
Very clear, simple and thorough explanations...so far the best teaching videos I came across. Keep on good work and helping people help problematic dogs. Thank you!
This is the most in depth, well explained video that I have ever seen and the collar works great. After a couple hours the only problem I was having was not tripping over the dog because he was so close to me as I walk. The training continues. Thank You
I've seen many training videos and participated in some live seminars with the best trainers. I really love how you explain things, you are super talented. Thank you for your videos.
If you cut your price in half, you would get 10x more sales for your program. You are a really good teacher, but you’re charging the same price as a personal instructor coming to your home across 10 sessions. Most people aren’t willing to pay as much for an online course as for 1-1 instruction, no matter how good the course. And your course is really good.
I found this training to be the best I have ever done. This guy is excellent. I just ordered my Herm Springer collar from an official Herm Springer store & can't wait for it to get here. I have been using a generic version the wrong way! I adopted a border collie mix 2 years ago and she's so stubborn, actually has pulled me off of my feet, landing face first in the dirt 3 times and knocked me over once! I think these training techniques will help. I was ready to give her up as walking her is a nightmare because she is so strong and stubborn. Anyway, thank you for sharing these videos with us. They make perfect sense, and I can see where I was confusing her, and hopefully, we can continue this journey in life together! It would break my heart to have to rehome her!
Amazing. I purchased the prong collar and can't wait for it to come. My dog's been learning a tiny amount at a time about not freaking out but it's still maybe so maybe not and it's a real struggle walking him at night when there are lots of rats he wants to chase (I live in nyc). I've hurt my knee, both ankles and shoulder trying to teach him with the flat collar. At first I felt bad about this but I believe it's gonna be that little thing we need to really dial it in. Exhausted mentally and physically but very hopeful. Thank you
Excellent presentation with clear and concise instructions. I subscribed. Just beginning my own dog to a prong collar and I'm thrilled to have this video. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. ☺
I'm going to start from the beginning, following your steps, and hope for similar success - but it may be too late. A side note: he is not a puller and had learned loose leash walking from an early age. For quite some time the prong was very effective for my 120+ pound dog in high stimulus areas - until he learned that mom isn't very strong...if I bolt without any warning she let's go of the leash - instant reward! When I was young, my reflexes were spot on - I could jerk back at the exact moment and my dogs learned, quickly, not to lunge or bolt. Recently, my current dog tried just bolting - my instincts knew I would fall flat on my face and probably break something in the process (and he would be free anyway - so self protection takes over). After the first time, I knew he was testing me...he did it again, the very next day - for no reason. He had my number and now does it whenever he feels the reward of freedom is worth the short lived pain. I no longer take him for any walks or anything - because I can't take the chance that he breaks free and hurts something, including myself, in the process. I can tell you, he absolutely loves his new found knowledge - but now is stuck indoors until I regain my role.
Omg, I finally started using the prong collar: game Changer! Seriously, I wasn't sure if I could keep him. He's 80% great but the reactivity and pulling had me with 2 sprained ankles, sore shoulder, sprained back and a lot of frustration. Any way, I watched the videos as you suggested and I prepped him on the collar like you suggested and I've been doing what you said in phase 1 and 2 and even the first 5 day with the collar everything is different. I haven't had to use much force at all, the collar is training him. Lol. He doesn't like it and regulates himself so much better. Anyway I could go on and on. I just want to say, thank you for your training! I really hope you get compensated the way you deserve. Thank you!!!!!
This is super helpful as I have a overly reactive 6 mo old cattle dog that needs this next level of ‘communication’ control. Her Brother just went through introduction of a prong collar with my husband and professional trainer. Let it be known she warned some dogs can really freak when they feel even gentle pressure at first because of that opposition reflex. Well Shasta screamed and flopped around like the drama king he is. It was ugly even though the trainer wasn’t hurting him. Took only a minute and he figured it out and has been fine after that. Just a warning for anyone trying this some dogs don’t react, some react a little, and some freak the F out. But they will figure it out. Now it’s my turn with sister Lucy. Thanks for this video!
@dylaninman4033 i did not use the link. I ordered the day before I saw your video. I have a female doberman . She'll be 1 year on Saturday. I used your method and it's a life changer. I totally appreciate you brother. I have some of your other videos i saved to watch later . Great job my friend.
LOVED when you put this on your own neck - what a great way to show the right way! I do have a question about when you use the e-stim collar and the prong - both of them are supposed to be up behind the ears and up high on the neck - my challenge is having them both up there - and e-Stim the highest up then the prong. Thoughts?
This training is GREAT! Great usable information given to using the prong collar. I think I can finally start using the prong collar in training my dog.
Love your videos and I have learnt so much, thank you! Prong collars are banned in Australia, is there an alternative? Otherwise, I will just use a chain collar but laws are strict here (but barking collars that zap the dog are legal, go figure). Thanks again for being an incredible trainer who provides informative videos that are direct and concise, you are simply brilliant! ♥
I have Amstaff called Moon, she is only 8 months old and weights already 22kg. She would chase anything smaller then her, cats, dogs, kids, leafs, litter...😂 and today I have decided and bought the prong collar. I hope with your help I will be able to train her💚
Thanks , the information you delivered in the video is like we had seminar of using the prong collar. I have a 9 months old working line German Shepherd young pup (26.2 kgs) working on obedience foundation. What size of prong collar you would recommend? 2.25 mm is good or 3 mm? I put a 3 mm on him right now, will the 2.25 mm better? What do I do if there is somewhere in between for adding a link to the collar. Snug but feel a bit tight. Thank you and appreciated.
Great information, thanks for all you do. I have a HS Sprenger prong collar from a larger 80 plus pound dog I had. Today I have Hazel, a 57 lbs lab/pit mix and would like to use the same prong collar. Is it ok to use the larger collar and just remove prongs as needed? She is a pretty powerful dog with a big neck.
I love how you teach and the psychological concepts. I have a question. For an American Staffordshire Terrier should I use a prong collar? She is 3 years old. She knows some commands from her previous owner. We went for our first walk this morning. She is teachable and we are building our relationship. I wanted to make sure that I didn't by mistake make her aggressive or damage our relationship. I am going to train her to be my Service Dog. Should I use a prong collar? Doing all of this research since I was adopting "Sky", too much information will confuse the heck out of a person. Outside of teaching and training for her to qualify for a service dog. I'm just going to stick with you. Clear and information the way I like it!. This is WHY you do this. This is HOW they think. This concept ... I greatly appreciate you.
I have a 7 month old Dalmatian , we’ve had only for 1 week, good disposition, he learns quickly, sit, stay, lay.. but does pull hard on walks, especially at park. Going to buy this collar. Question is: I am 61, wife 59 son is 26 he’s the actual owner of dog do you recommend only 1 person train with collar? And when trained should he behave properly when walking in harness no matter who is walking him?
Great video. I wish you would show to do corrections, how to snap the collar. My dog is stronger then me. He weighs like 20lbs less then me, so when I do corrections, I have to be on point. Meaning, I have to snap right when he pulls in the opposite direction. Otherwise, he's faster and strong and, therefore, just pulls me. How do a do a strong correction at this point
I've been doing phase 1 and 2 for loose leash walking and my dog does not seem phased. I'm exhausted. I feel like I'm going to hurt him and feel terrible for yanking at him but it has not changed.
Oh one more question- if he wants to smell something or stay smelling something after I've started walking by, is this allowable or defiant behalf? How do I know when to stop and let him and when to expect he be following me/my lead? Know what I mean? I stop a lot for him to smell but am concerned that I'm undoing his obedience training by doing this.
Plus when I'm removing the pointy thingy from the prong collar to make it fit to my dog, does it need to be symmetrical? like 3 pointy thingy on the right and also 3 pointy thingy on left? or it can just like 3 to the left and 1 on the right?
I have one of those quick connects that snap together, it takes the place of the center plate. Is this ok to use or does it allow too big a gap between the progs at a critical point?
Sir, you are an excellent teacher and communicator but you depth and breadth of knowledge in many subjects is impressive. Did you get a PhD in particle physics and then decide to train dogs instead? I mean that as a compliment. Thanks for these videos.
Dogs under 80lbs 2.25mm, Dogs over 80lbs 3mm but my dog is 37,5kg (82.67lbs) german shepperd, should I get 2.25? or 3? I'm scared 3 would be a little bit loose and 2.25 might be too tight. idk. pls let me know
Soo..what do you consider a chunky neck??😊 My boy is about 62lbs with a 17.5" neck . Herm Sprenger gave me 2 different suggestions based on my quiz and e-mail and I trust your opinion if you can help please 🙏 Tysm for all u do for us and our dogs❤
Regardless of topic, dude has an absolute knack for teaching! A gift that not even many teachers have. This is how you know someone really knows a subject, when they can break it down and teach it to someone else👏🏽
I agree
Totally agree.
Yeah spot on
I agree..better than tom davis forrest micke and leerberg cash machines.
Thank you!
Maybe the best of the abusers.

You are a great teacher. Thank you from the Netherlands
I have been training and teaching for decades - I really like this young man! Lots of common sense along with great explanations and knows his stuff!
Most detailed well explained the use and conditioning step of prong collar video I've ever known. Keep up the good work.
Glad it was helpful!

Will do!

I have one of those does the job..I can walk loosely without the side eye of strangers.
Where did you get the cover from for the dog collar ?
Life gets alot better when you quit caring what people think. Its empowering. Lol

More to come!
This is the most in depth, well explained video that I have ever seen and the collar works great. After a couple hours the only problem I was having was not tripping over the dog because he was so close to me as I walk. The training continues. Thank You
By far the best, most informative dog training videos I have seen. Thank you!!
Impressive video. Laying out the why, and how before the use (videos) was very effective at teaching the handler what they need to know. Well done!
You should have more followers/subscribers! Excellent teaching style and really informative!

Gave a thumbs up because I didn't know this. I've always used a prong collar for my 50 lbs bully. And it hangs. Didn't know it was so loose 27:54
I just bought a herm sprenger prong collar for my super reactive 1yo border collie and very excited to follow your methods! Thank you!
Excellent presentation with clear and concise instructions. I subscribed. Just beginning my own dog to a prong collar and I'm thrilled to have this video. Thank you so much for your time and knowledge. ☺

This is the BEST prong collar teaching video out there! Thanks SO much for this!
Great video, brother . I received my HS prong collar today. Gonna try your it today.
Can I ask what collar you got and if you got it using the links in the description? I have a GSD with a 17in neck, about 60 lbs
@dylaninman4033 i did not use the link. I ordered the day before I saw your video. I have a female doberman . She'll be 1 year on Saturday. I used your method and it's a life changer. I totally appreciate you brother. I have some of your other videos i saved to watch later . Great job my friend.
Learned so much, you’re an amazing teacher. Keep them coming 🙏🙏🙏
Miles is the best. He makes everything make sense👋
I have recently rehome a gsd pup, thanks for this very informative videos. Keep it up 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Love your videos and I have learnt so much, thank you! ♥
Great explanation and example videos,
Great video man… At what age would you recommend to use a prong collar on a puppy? My pup is 2 months old 20Lbs and growing.
Very informative. Great video, thank you!
Love your step by step teaching everyone can understand.
The Best tutorial I have come across!
You are an absolutely incredible teacher. Thank you for this.
I have Amstaff called Moon, she is only 8 months old and weights already 22kg. She would chase anything smaller then her, cats, dogs, kids, leafs, litter...😂 and today I have decided and bought the prong collar. I hope with your help I will be able to train her💚
Great video! Just started using a prong collar with my American Bulldog.
Best video for fitment I’ve seen!
Love this guy! So authentic no BS
Your videos and techniques are the best. I hope there will be more soon.
Excellent video! Thanks a lot for sharing it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤ You are the best. Amazing videos.
Just ordered two for mom & dad dog & the two puppy’s one kept are two small xx
Brilliant, can’t wait to start with my cute 4 month old beagle, she’s gonna crush it!
Excellent, well explained tutorial, thank you.
I find it super hard to take the collar on and of as the prongs are so tight 😢 any ideas anyone. Absolutely love the videos. Thanks so much ❤❤
I love how you teach and the psychological concepts.
Excellent video, fabulous teaching style! Thank you 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very informative- where is the link for the prong collar please
Great instruction video. I just subscribed.
Great video! Just wondering, at what age can I add this tool to the training?
I have a 7 month old Dalmatian , we’ve had only for 1 week, good disposition, he learns quickly, sit, stay, lay.. but does pull hard on walks, especially at park. Going to buy this collar. Question is: I am 61, wife 59 son is 26 he’s the actual owner of dog do you recommend only 1 person train with collar? And when trained should he behave properly when walking in harness no matter who is walking him?
I like the videos.Very well explained.Thanks. I watch your videos from Germany
Just an Excellent introduction to prong collars. !!!
A point missing, which I wish was covered was when to introduce it to your puppy, at what age. Different sources give different answers.
Collar recommendations for small dogs? Like 16 and 6 lbs.
Plus when I'm removing the pointy thingy from the prong collar to make it fit to my dog, does it need to be symmetrical? like 3 pointy thingy on the right and also 3 pointy thingy on left? or it can just like 3 to the left and 1 on the right?
thank you so much for sharing this information, love your content and appreciate you educating the community about this
Beautiful Video!!! So well done.
This channel isbsuch a gem
Tks dude
Went to the link you provided to buy a sprenger collar. So, how many inches should we buy? I have a lab pup and neck is approximately 17 inches.
Great content! Thank you!
