This is helping me to push forward and buy some classic tech hardware sampler. I do tend to buy new stuff only because I got burned once before on an old Alpha Juno synth missing keys. The seller had a fake picture and claimed it was good all along. Haven't bought second hand since.
I was wondering this. Could you explain pls a little bit more how did you connect the USB to Midi cable? Also, I would like to know if this way you can dump samples into your PC or to later use'em in a... Idk, Launchpad mini (or some type of Midi controller without the 5 pin cable) Do I need Millenium or something like that or is better to use an old PC [im very lost in this topic]

So would I be able to just use the stereo inputs and outputs of the Akai and link it to let’s say 3/4 in/ out of my interface. Then would I be able to sample my own music from my DAW going into the interface and interface into the sampler and then after sampling, back to the interface and back in the DAW? I hope I am explaining myself correctly, help would be great :)
Hi, você tem alguma dica para usar a saída digital do s3000xl ? Tenho conectado no cartão pci maudio delta 2496 entrada digital in, sincronização out mas sem áudio no Mixer
Bizzy, S3200 owner here with a question if you don't mind. I got an audio interface with 8 inputs (Behringer UMC1820) . Should I connect all the Akai's individual outputs into the interface or is it important that I connect the Akai's 2 stereo outputs too? Basically 6 individuals + 2 stereo out or 8 individuals + 0 stereo out? What would you suggest?
@@TheBizzyBScience Yes I have, was quite close to buying a SoundCraft one. Just couldn’t justify it since I already have an 8 channel interface which allows me to track all channels with FX inside my DAW. And mixer will give just give you stereo LR so it encourages hardware FX before DAW… which I don’t have the budget or space for :(

Assuming you have an e4/e64/e6400/e5000, the manual is very good and well laid out. On the computer side you need a sound card or audio interface with the capability of playing back and recording audio simultaneously. Any decent one can do this. Recommend a dedicated pair of outputs from the computer to the sampler inputs as if you only have one stereo pair you'll have to share it between monitors and sampler, which is horribly inconvenient although workable in a pinch. And start with the main sampler stereo out to the computer inputs. Worry about the sub outs later. In the Master page on the emu, make sure the midi channel is the same as you are sending from your computer. That's it for basic hookup really. Analogue mixer is not an absolute must but very highly recommended.
@@ozzy3ml cheers for the info much appreciated,i really want to see what the EMU sampler has to offer over digital DAW samplers etc,is there any benefits or will it just take up room ,should i sell it ?
@@MRSTU1210 Which one have you got? I have the e64 and have owned an e5000 ultra before. Also have a Yamaha and Akai because yes, there are clear benefits to me. Software samplers suck at pitching samples, in my experience. The Emu e4/ultra series have a wonderful fat sound, there is something about the sampling engine and ad/da converters in them. Plus the fab filters, of course. Nearly anything you sample into it just sounds good. The big question is, does it suit your workflow? And to figure that one out, you will need to spend some time with it. If you have any questions, there is a highly active Emu thread on dogsonacid.com, on the producer part of the forum ("the grid").
Yo Bizzy, Yeah I would be interested in more advanced midi triggering. I am too much in my comfort zone with triggering midi on the s950/s1000 in Ableton. Last time I tried renoise I had all sorts of problems like how to cut off a triggered midi note etc
Still triggering them with Ableton? I am currently doing that but considering getting an MPC 1000 or something just to sequence the rack samplers. Curious if you settled on a different method 3 years after that comment :P

Nice one Bizzy. Could you do a video on the s3000 classic versus XL? I've got the s3000i and was told by the guy who was Akai's main sales man back in the day that the non-XL's are the rack samplers most similar in sound to the MPC 3000. Love these akai tutorials. Yours is basically the only channel that does them in-depth.
Bought the s3000XL and put it in my studio today. Thanks for this upload!

How do you connect it to a Akai MPC?
I was surprised that of all the DAWs you used Renoise :) My favourite.
I have tried a few , but renoise is my most used too!
Great tutorial!
You can also use USB to Midi, I've used that with my s950
